Goblin laughing at Peter's punches is just what I needed to see in the MCU. Defoe stole the whole show.

Oddly, that scene reminded me of when when Batman punched Joker in 'The Dark Knight', and all the Clown Prince did was laugh at the abuse.
Both are good examples at how ineffective intimidation is against Madness.

@Happy in my opinion he was great as THAT joker, but some people (myself included) like the joker to be like he was in the comics. Heath was amazing in the dark knight as a serious dark joker but I prefer the joker like he was in Batman 1989. All opinions.

In a movie with so much to love in it, Willem Defoe absolutely steals the show in No Way Home. He’s sympathetic and vulnerable one minute then ruthless and terrifying the next
Much of that is owed to the "Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde" characterization.
a meek scientist whose repressed negative traits manifest into a monstrous alternate personality.
No Way Home made that more clear with Osborn describing "blackouts" and memory loss
when his Goblin persona takes control, and makes him do evil things.
Imagine how terrifying it is to have such gaps in your memory.
You don't know what you did during those blackouts, but you *do* know that it was something horrible.
And it helps that he doesn't have his mask because now we can see Norman's face but it's the Goblin in control and it's easier to sympathize with him because we can still see the face of the poor man who is being plagued by the Goblin and is being made to do these terrible things

This feels like a trailer for a 3 hours movie about the Green Goblin. What we see in trailers in this day and age are bits and pieces which hype up the story (as opposed to seeing the entire story, like old trailers) -- which is precisely what this is. Good job!

It's a good example of a universal constant where no matter what the story or timeline is, it's one of the things that always stays the same along with the loss of Krypton, the death of Uncle Ben, the death of the Waynes, and the eternal struggle of the Autobots and Decepticons.

I mean Peter tried to cure Norman from the Goblin, and that kinda means that the Goblin tried to save him self. But he also hates people who use there powers for good because he believes that if you have the kind of power Peter has he should use it for selfish needs. He just hate how selfless Peter is because he see it as a weakness! Peter could have it all but he choose to help others insteed! This is why Goblin will always be Spider-Mans greatest enemy!
Most of us felt like young kids again when we saw the Green Goblin appear in No Way Home.
Yes, the Doc Ock battle was iconic in it's own way, but we all remember 2002's original Spider-Man film
and how amazing Dafoe's portrayal of one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies was...and, STILL is to this day.
That's why they brought him back.....Legendary status.
What a choice for the music, an intense build up with a twist of the unsettling vibe that matches Goblin perfectly. Beautiful work as always bro

We kinda already knew but NWH solidified that Green Goblin is the penultimate Spiderman villain and Dafoe's performance is up there in the pantheon of greatest acting of all time. In that final act, Dafoe was captivating, terrifying and the personification of real, abject evil. It was brilliant.

The Green Goblin by Willem Dafoe is my favorite performance from a villain in a superhero film.
He was so consistent in this role after so many years. It was truly the same character, he didn’t change it one bit. There is no need for improvement. That’s so awesome. If you look at the other villains in the movie they all changed.
Since he came into the MCU, He’s the most dominant villain..I top him over thanos. To me Dafoe gave the best performance as green goblin in the MCU. William Dafoe is just awesome.
Thanos was a terrible, horribly written character. Not hard to beat.

Norman’s Estate is occupied by someone else that could possibly be his equivalent to the MCU living in his house…

One thing I noticed as a negative was that the presence of the Green Goblin essentially vanished when Peter fought him. I was hoping for some more quips or just... something else. It felt lacking in his last couple minutes.
If Willem Dafoe plays the Joker, there's a chance that he would most likely perform better than Heath Ledger did, but who knows? That would be fucking badass and wicked!
The movie would have to be dark, very dark, for him to play a great joker. Like killing joke or when Joker killed robin with a crowbar, something like that. Something that makes batman break his one rule

what a privilege it is for us he came back to play this role 20 years later, and he's even better than before.
After months of pondering, now I see why I love Spider-Man franchise. Spider-Man is a hero I really idolize. A humble, naive hero who doesn't really want to be special. He's really down to Earth and is everything that I aspire to be. Goblin, especially Willem's Goblin, scares me. I don't know why back then or just assume it's because of his evil laugh. But now, I understand why he's scary for me. He's the embodiment of my second thoughts and all the hardships I had in my entire life. He's the inner demon inside me, the doubts and other negative thoughts. Always tempting me to take the easy way out, telling me to give in, give up on what I'm doing, even if it's wrong, even if it hurts other people, just like Willem's Goblin. As a kid, I relate to Peter, Spider-Man. Now as an adult, I relate to Norman, the one who is possessed by the Goblin. He's scary because I have my own personal Goblin.

A huge part of my childhood resurrected so brilliantly.
I think the interesting thing is that Green Goblin claims to be driven by power, gaining more and more of it. Though just watching him light up and revel in carnage, I think the goblin loves the chase for power more than having it. He isn’t interested in one day retiring to a throne he loves hurting people too much. Goblin isn’t to me at least driven by power, he’s hopelessly addicted to fighting and the sensation of winning. He doesn’t love the feeling of power he loves the thrill of taking it.
Its crazy how great he was in NWH. I mean we all knew he would be, but I think he might have been even better than he was in the Rami trilogy.

Marvel been on point with the villains lately idc what nobody says. Thanos, mysterio and green goblin have been amazing imo. Green goblin is now one of my favs. I hope they bring him back in the future in a movie where he interacts with Peter as much as mysterio did in far from home.

616 Peter had dealt with the likes of the Vulture, Mysterio, and Thanos before this. Villains who did bad things but for arguably justifiable reasons. Never before a completely insane & evil entity like the Green Goblin.

Green Goblin is exactly why DC, no matter what footing they make, will never be in the same par as level as Marvel. In terms of the level of prowess in insane court jester character, and the wickedness, Norman Osborn makes the Joker look like a boy scout.
Not a good comparison if u ask me, believe me Willem Dafoe's The Green Goblin is my favorite performance from a villain in a superhero flick but the truth is Joker has been written more consistently and has been treated with respect by DC unlike The Green Goblin whose influence has been killed by Marvel.
