He initially offers a team-up to spiderman because he found resemblence in him, another guy with a loose screw in his head, condemned by society and yet doing something erratical as helping people regardless. Once he realizes that spiderman is not broken like him but consistently enduring society's hardship, he then follows spiderman around and throws even more dilemma at him like "you will never know when a lunatic will come along with sadistic choice of killing dozens of civilians or sacrificing your loved ones" and tries to prove that it's foolish to be a hero when people are cruel. He constantly tests him so that spiderman can see his point of view and hopes for him to realize saving "these disgusting people" is pointless. To give an idea of just how much time had actually passed between Spider-Man 2002 and No Way Home... I saw Spider-Man 2002 on opening week as a 4th grade kid. I saw Spider-Man NWH on opening night as a 5th grade teacher.
With the whole culmination of the Spider-Man films in No Way Home, I feel that the Tom Holland trilogy is best understood in terms of the legacy of Spider-Man within the shadow of the MCU. Peter Parker in this trilogy, a.k.a. "trust fund Spider-Man," is the one who did not have his own origin story movie. He's there because everyone knows who he is, but because of that, he was stuck in the first part of his origin story, the part where he's in his glee of discovering what he can do to help others and how he can carve out his place as a hero. The entire message of the first two movies is essentially a metaphor for how Spider-Man can develop his own identity in the wider context of the MCU, but it remains hindered by the constraints of that cinematic universe. He's not "Spider-Man" yet, he's just another superhero that everyone knows that got incorporated into the MCU. How is he distinct? What makes him different? What makes him "Spider-Man"? Then Green Goblin shows up. He's the villain that commences the third act of the origin story - the darkest hour. With defeating Vulture, he was able to show that he didn't have to rely on the ability of others to be a good superhero; his character made him that. With defeating Mysterio, he was able to show that he didn't have to live in the shadow of someone greater than him; he could be different, himself. With defeating Green Goblin, he was able to show that he was Spider-Man, that he could assume the responsibility to help others even in the face of great loss and anguish. The other Spider-Men encourage him to do that, they have both gone through their origin stories, and not only do they have chances to amend for their past mistakes, but they instill in Peter who he should be. Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions is more critical about this trilogy in that Spider-Man doesn't fully become Spider-Man until the end of the trilogy, being yet another example of "superhero movie where the hero doesn't really do much hero-ing", but I find that the trilogy becomes more favorable when you observe it as as advocation for superhero films to be distinct from wider cinematic universes. It's an overarching origin story that encourages separation on a hero's own merits. You don't need the MCU to be a hero - who are you, and what can you do to help others?
thank god for Endgame and No Way Home. these movies brought back characters that I never thought we’d possible see again. Thank god for time travel and doctor strange magic

I saw Spider-Man NWH on opening night as a 5th grade teacher.
1:03 i turned out spider man could do both
0:49 so random 😂
What an amazing actor. There will never be another actor at Dafoes caliber
Except Mark Hamill.
There's only one missing: "I'm something of a scientist myself."
he got transported to a different universe then his own and then decided to ruin some kid's life just because he can what a legend
1:27 2:20 he could be a Potential Cobra Commander or Starscream.
We should've had the mirror scene it was so iconic
U missed one - "MJ and I, gonna have a hell of a time "
I'll be honest, NWH Goblin > SM1 Goblin, by orders of magnitude.
Yes I found him goofy in the first one and menacing in NWH
Me too.
@@reannagordon
The mask too me out of it, I wouldn’t say goofy 🙃
As it should be
To each his own but nah. Prefer SM1 Goblin
He's my favorite Spider-Man Villian!
Strong enough to have it all, weak enough to take it. That's some line.
He can play as joker in perfect way in another universe
"I may have struck the blow, but you *deep voice* you were the one that killed her"
Best Spiderman Villian Ever Really Enjoyed Seeing him with Tom Holland in NWH
"Follow that cold shiver running down your spine..."
"Oh, I'm in a new world? Let's fuck shit up."
We can have empathetic villains who are ALSO blatantly evil.
Mr Dafoe is the man !
I like that he doesn't became villain because of the corrupted power ,but he became it bcs he's pure evil 😅
Can Spider-Man come out to play?
“But now that you’ve really pissed me off!” 😆 I laughed at that harder than I should’ve.
No way you left out "Norman's on sabbatical honey"
From Start to end he just spitting facts
Green Goblin >>> Joker
0:34 he tried it on tobey and beg for mercy trying to kill him, He suceed with tom and was happy if peter was willing to kill him without a doubt.
