    With a crew, its a combat beast as the remote turrets that each station controls all fire at once no matter which position you are in. That being said, it flies like a cement truck, so your assessment is pretty much spot on. Nothing can beat the Aliens vibe of being on the ship, however. I will be living on mine post 3.18.

    The smaller turrets were linked prior to the latest patch, which is why you see all the capacitors on the screen. You'd control 3 turrets/6 guns at a time. Lots of fun to use. Likely the same issue that broke the Redeemer's linked turret. Hopefully we see a fix with the next patch.

    The vibe on the inside of this ship I think feels super cool and unique. It makes no attempt to feel inviting or like "clean" is something to be worried about. The bathrooms and the showers (even the captains!) drive that home well. I appreciate that they also used the same style of bench and cushion everywhere, even in the captains quarters, as if to imply "Theres no place on this ship that is for rest, except your bunk". Even the Argo or some MISC ships don't go that far on industrial design language. It really gives life to the ship and helps with immersion.
    I'll also say that to me, the body a bit resembles a Sandcrawler from Star Wars, which I think is spot on also. Thanks Farrister, keep em coming!

    The Reclaimer doesn't fit into my personal fleet very well, so this is one of the big boys that I don't have and am not likely to get, but it's got tons of personality and really feels like the big, ancient hulk that it is -- the Reclaimer is, I believe, the last holdout from Aegis' earliest days as a maker of industrial ships, before the Retaliator made them the Messers' go-to company for war-crime machines. I like the Reclaimer most as a 'lore vehicle', in that respect. I'd never use it for missions or cargo hauling personally, as the necessity of landing and taking off from a planetary port, plus a hold not much bigger than a Connie Taurus, mean your credits per hour are going to suffer. What I WOULD use the Reclaimer for, is the start of anything social - Got two friends with you on Port Tressler, and want to join up with another at Grim Hex? This is your boy. The Q drives, while they might not be the best at their size, are still BIG, and that means this will get you to Grim Hex faster than your friend can get to you. Plus, your friends will have an absolute blast wandering around inside during the trip.

    Those "gizmos" you described at the center of the engineering deck is the ships Powerplant, a nuclear reactor.
    A word on the remote turrets; im not sure if it's still like this since I wasn't able (nor willing) to fly one for a while, but the 3 Turrets assigned to each station would all converge and fire on the same target (if within the respective turret's field of view), irrespective of which turret you chose to aim from.
    So each station would control 3 Turrets simultaneously, similar to how the copilot gunner on the Hercules operates their two Turrets.

    The Reclaimer seems like more a mobile salvage station. Claw grabs massive portions of wrecks while tractor beams pull in the more valuable salvage to separate it. It being tanky likely to allow it to wade through debris fields and turrets to either shoot down asteroids and/or raiders.
    To sum it up. I think it's meant to be a deep space salvage ship that's used to operating solo. It can defend itself and due to occupational hazards can tank a few hits.

    Rented this today to see how painful solo salvaging was with it. Turns out, not really at all. So I made it my last IAE ship purchase for this year. I swore and swore that I'd only ever have the one capital ship I bought years back (BMM), but I figure I'll use this 'super cheap' mini capital to actually earn in-game credits for once, and stave off further purchase hungers by buying ships in-game instead.
    Thus, "The Mangler" was born. And now my wallet truly hates me, after buying like 4 or 5 large ships in one month. And yeah, if CIG screws the ship up completely for solo players, I'll CCU it to a smaller ship down the line.
    Once all the features of the ship are online, in oh, say 15 years, they'll indubitably increase the price quite a bit, too.

    I love the industrial, Nostromo like design of the reclaimer and wish more ships were like this. I love hard scifi and have always been some what sad that SC is more like starwars than I originally thought it would be. I understand why most people would not enjoy planning out missions based on limited fuel or having weapons range be limited by accuracy only. the close in dog fights of SC are more fun and balanced than if combat worked like it does in something slightly more grounded like "The Expanse". In the end I came to accept that a the game I want would probably not be fun and that SC does stuff the way it does to make the gameplay fun and enjoyable.

Now that salvage has become available in game, this ship has some incredible gameplay-ability with a group of players and my organization has had a lot of fun with it. It is definitely worth it. Also the spooky Ridley Scott 'Alien' vibe on this ship adds to the roleplay feature. You never know when a Xenomorph is going to drop from the ceiling. Lastly this ship is nameable with the name of the ship being visible on the hull. So I named mine 'NOSTROMO' for obvious reasons. 👌

    Thanks for another great review. The Reclaimer is my favorite ship for a lot of reasons, mostly impractical ones. But I have to say, I think you jumped the gun on this review. With the main lift not working, you miss out on huge sections of the ship. Also, the Reclaimer comfortably carries a variety of land vehicles, which can be parked in several locations. I think you also undersold the combat capabilities of this ship. The Reclaimer easily shreds ERT Hammerheads with a crew of three or more. Each remote turret location fires THREE sets of panthers at once. With the size fives on top, that's a tremendous bit of firepower. And those three size three shield generators make it virtually invulnerable to most NPC attacks. Players are a somewhat different story, of course.

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, I hope to revisit her once salvage is live. I'm a little torn on the combat side of things, like you say, with a full crew it's a potent tanky ship, but then, with that same crew I might be more tempted to take out a Redeemer, or Retaliator, or Eclipse and some fighters, which also make short work of ERTs. I dunno, you've convinced me to try some more combat with it xD

  • @hippyhappyhippo

    Okay, so I love looking at all these ships but I don't play the game. But I spotted the part in the video where the 'gravity generator' was mentioned, and gravity on all these ships has been bugging me. So this particular ship has gravity generated on the vessel but does that apply to all ships? I've seen videos of people passing out because of increased 'g-force' due to fast manoeuvres and people falling over when the ship accelerates, but if the ship has artificial gravity, that shouldn't be happening. Though if you don't have artificial gravity then you won't be able to walk around on a vessel unless you're relying on magnetic boots adhering to the metal decking. Should it only be the larger ships that have gravity generators, with smaller ships having zero-g out of atmosphere?

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  2 года назад

      It'll be interesting to see. I guess it's dependent on how strong the gravity is too, I guess most would trim to 1G, but then that would make them susceptible to inertia? Hence G-force? I must admit it's a little beyond my physics understanding lol

And once the scrapping is implemented, this big lady will be your best friend. But Aegis could have done a better work at presenting the Reclaimer during the expo. Everything is dirty, there is stuff leaking from the ceiling... it's the kind of feeling I would expect from a Drank vessel. I Will fly circles of happiness around evry Reclaimer I see. Hi again Farrister. It's me your favorite commenter. As you said, this ship is absolutely huge. I've been through it top to bottom and frankly I wouldn't own it. My Carrack is almost too big for me. Don't get me wrong, I love my Carrack. I'm not really interested in industrial ships. The only industrial vehicles/ships that I have are for mining. The rest are exploration, cargo and combat craft. Of course my main focus is exploration. I've flown the Reclaimer before, and as you said, it's slow in every way. It was frankly difficult to fly because of it's size. Landing is almost impossible in any decent landing area. There's not a lot of pads big enough. I certainly wouldn't take it to Orison because of the distance into the atmosphere you have to fly to reach the city. It takes forever in most ships and something that big you could die and be buried before you made it to the landing platforms from space. It would be funny to see a ship land with skeletons sitting at the controls. I digress. Thanks for the review. Take care, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.

      @@Farrister But THAT is point Farrister, it REQUIRES a group of people to crew it effectively to get optimal performance. And it is not the only ship requiring a full crew, bearing in mind that many have features and operations not yet unlocked and engaged. Then there is also the matter of group gameplay and crew inter-operability to get right so as to maximise the efficiency of the ship and create scenarios that all the players involved can enjoy and be willing to repeat as game play and game progress going forward.
      What I'm trying to say here is that there is a significant number of ships with unfinished functionality and (as yet) undeveloped (but indicated) game play loops that require FULL CREWS to get the best out of AS IS.

At the end of the video there was one quick clip of a hangar door but still don't know if that space would be the only spot one could load cargo. Haha, thanks again, and sorry for this rant (not directed to you). I am still figuring out many things of SC. I now see that I can't even buy the ship I was going to buy! Apparently, they only sell many ships once a year... The event that just ended (I did not know such a dumbass rule existed). As a very new player, I appreciate the "events" having something to make it special, like selling a new ship, but to me, that should be all they do. A chance for a new released ship or ground vehicle. The fact that they have had ships for many years, that are ONLY available once a year is fucking lame. Makes zero sense. Sure, make the "Best of year edition" only available during the event, or a sale only during such an event, but being a new player, and wanting to give them $500 dollars for a ship that was in game over 5 years ago, and the fact that I began during an event so now have to wait a year? Haha, no tyvm. What an idiot choice on this. I don't need to have wasted years of my life in the "verse" to be able to tell shit from shinola. In now seeing the grey market isn't going to be a risk I'll take either. I have no alpha gripes, and have experienced all the bugs, can deal with wipes, but honestly, after seeing there choice in how they sell ships, oh, and nothing but idiot trolls in chat (F12 FTW), SC will not be something will be able to get into.
