The MSR is one of those ships where the utility will come into its own when data running finally comes into play. It's nice to fly, but that hall of doors does get old quickly.
I own the MSR and yes it does get old but there is a reason. In case you are boarded you can lock multiple doors to keep the boarders busy trying to unlock or blow the doors while you escape using the tunnels. That's also the reason there are 2 separate areas with gun racks.
@@srick77373 You mean the tunnels that everyone and their mothers know the locations to? Also...getting boarded and needing to escape...what game are you playing? Nothing this exciting ever happends in this game, with only two S2 shields you'll just end up blowing up against any dedicated fighter quicker than you can think tunnel.
@@gabzsy4924 your thinking in the now, I'm talking future game play. In the future there is a good chance we may get boarded by npc pirates. Is the MSR in its final format? It's still due a gold pass as they have said that they forgot to add a second entrance. Soft death is coming and batteries will still keep things powered after main power is knocked out. After gold pass will it keep it's size 2 shields or will it get upgraded to a size 3 like the rest of the medium ships?

Totally agree about the 'shielded' cargo and crawlspaces. Since not even other ships in the crusader line have anything like them , all they do is bulk out the ship and draw attention to themselves. Keeping the individual access hatches to serve as little, overlooked storage cubbies rather than an interconnected space might have been a better call, but that's just my view on it. That awkward corridor between the cockpit and hab section still strikes me as somewhere they were thinking of putting an elevator or even docking collar too. That said, I love this ship. Had mine since it was first released as flyable and that straight-line speed and respectable shields have gotten me out of more scrapes than I have any right to have survived.
If I remember right, this is one of the few ships where you can LOCK THE CABIN! That means you can play taxi and actually move people safely and they won't be taking over your ship! (I loved playing "Space Taxi" until I was ship-jacked one time too many.) :(
This is one of those ships where I feel the character of the ship overtakes the downsides. There's so much room for fun, emergent gameplay in this kind of ship. With silly little additions like the crawlspaces, chessboard emergency exit, and the hidden cargo, there's a lot of great goofs to be had in the case of being boarded. The maneuverability and speed give it that "This baby's got a few surprises left in her" feel of a certain dashing smuggler ship we all know and love. It may not be the best in it's bracket for everything, but it's one of those ships you kind of love on principal for what it's trying to accomplish, from an aesthetic and player interaction standpoint.
i'm a smuggler/outlaw, and quite ironicly while i do own an MSR, I end up using the 400i 95% of the time because of the massive shields, similar speed and much better interior layout
I feel the same, I have both and a Taurus because of the large shield, tractor beam bottom turret, plus the smugglers hold in the rear make it very similar to the MSR. In this way, in the future when much longer times to claim ships goes into effect, I will still have an option to go smuggling.
Haha I'm glad you enjoyed! That scene took me longer to make than I care to admit... But MSR has Ebon Hawk vibes, but with Endar Spire looks, so it seemed appropriate!
First off: awesome Outro! Had to burst out laughing! Secondly, very delighted that you used the ship model to say "Millenium Falcon", kudos there! At first glance the Star Runner appears to be superfluous when compared to the Connstellation or even Hercules. But I don't think so, because it offers datarunning and a scanning station. I do wish that the pilot would have double the guns or be able to slave a turret to it. I absolutely agree that right now it's more a choice of heart than brain. I wish it had more firepower for the pilot, that way it would be a no brainer. like a smaller Connie: a bit less firepower and cargo and missles, but a whole lot faster and fun to fly. I love that you can pop the dish out to scan, that you actually have internals where you can go, that you can roleplay in it WITH a chess board. I didn't know about the chess piece to open the trapdoor but from the angle you recorded the footage it looked like a minibar was about to raise from the ground. slightly dissapointed This IS a jack of all trades and I love it for that. It really does fly well, like a smaller ship. I love it and use it for double roc mining with friends. Never regretted Buying it. I am fortunate enough to have bought a lot of ships in this game. But for some stupid reason it's the Nomad+ROC combo i use the most. Just love it. I hope they release a sort of nomad 2.0, bigger version or whatever. Great video, great review, If you YOU watch this and are not subscribed, your're doing Farrister an injustice. SHAME! 😄
@2:00 got the starrunner back in march or feb with the fortuna paint. I exchanged it. Recently bought it back thru the program. I did not know about CRAWL SPACES! That is friggen cool. Thank you.
Hey Farrister, Great review of the MSR. I have to admit it is one of my favorite ships. I prefer it to a number of ships in my fleet. Between it and the Carrack, I have the two best ships in the game. I have both. I call one home and the other my working ship. Now don't get me wrong, I do like all the ships in my fleet, but for utility, the MSR is number 1, and for exploration, the Carrick works for me. I have to admit, the asymmetrical shape initially didn't thrill me, but it grew on me. Thanks for the review my friend. Take care, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.
One of your most enjoyable ship reviews ever. Love the KotOR reference! :D The MSR is one of my all time favourite SC spaceships. I love the Crusader aesthetics in general and when you slap on the Nightrunner paint this ship is just the bee's knees. The "secret" crawlways could use some improvement, like being only interactable for the ship's owner and maybe his party. But the potential of this ship is amazing. Once there is something to do for a dedicated scanner operator - something I really want as a crew position - it should have so much more utility. And who knows what we will be able to do with all the servers on board. I hope that we eventually will be able to freely decide what kind of software we want to load into our ship's computer capacity, and the MSR should have plenty of that. The sky (or Orison's atmosphere) is the limit...
Black advocacy skin is the bogs dollocks . You don’t need to climb a ladder or use the lift, just vault up. I love ships which provide multiple gameplay options, so the MSR fits nicely alongside my carrack and BMM. I never get bored of walking through any ship, it’s one of the best things in the game imo, just the fact we can. Great for ROC mining or high value trade item runs. Speaking of running, data running is its main purpose so until that’s in it is difficult to properly review it. That’s said you did a good job.
The MSR is my favorite ship I just wish it had two size four guns on the nose for the pilot. 2 size 3s is a bit weak for this ship's size. And of course a second smaller way to get in and out of the ship would be nice other than having to open the giant rear ramp after running through the entire ship. I was thinking the right side near the cockpit would be a good place for it to open up for a second entrance. That would give a reason for the asymmetry. It could be a ramp stairway similar to the 400i's
As an owner of the MSR I totally agree with everything you say. This is a heart‘s ship. I fell in love with it in the moment I entered. Maybe it‘s the overall look that reminds me a bit of the Millenium Falcon, Alien movies and 2001: Odyssey. This is what a space ship looked like for ages in Hollywood. And I can‘t get enough of how good it sounds!!! Dealing with the doors is part of the immersion for me. The view out of the cockpit is fantastic. If the mentioned negative points are to consider as the price for all that above, I will go on paying it.
I really hope the ability to lock doors in their open position will come back. It’s honestly quite tedious to get to and from the cockpit, which is a real shame.
When the MSR first came out, most of my org mates considered it the best multi crew ship. We had lots of fun doing combat missions with a pilot and 2 gunners. Since then other ships have replaced it for most effective multi crew combat ship, but it still remains effective, and has other advantages ships like the redeemer don't, like it's great cargo bay.
I melted my MSR and got a 400i and haven't missed the MSR at all. But the secret compartments are secret for NPCs rather than players. We all knew the Millennium Falcon had secret hideaways but the stormtroopers didn't.
This is what my MSR turned into as well. Even before the switch, my MSR was way down my list of most-flowns, while the 400i took the top spot almost immediately.
Great ship. Really versatile, easy fly, and just really comfortable to be in. The hall of doors is a bit lame, but when I exit my pilot seat I go through habitation rather then Server and take the secret entrance out. Feels a few seconds quicker to me, I hope we get an elevator or a ladder from the cockpit hallway though that'd be cool
What would be actually useful is if they created the ship to have tunnel opening variants. You could get one that has two openings for escape. The infiltrators have to figure out which variant it is, or they post people at each one dispersing their crew. The other feature they can add is one way openable doors for some of the crawl space doors, once again making the raiding crew thin out their crews to cover all possible escapes.
Love your review and I wish it was out when I was was figuring out what ship was going to be my “home” ship. I love my MSR and I was a hard choice between the it, the Corsair, and the Taurus. But why I picked the MSR in the end was this: Flys like a smaller ship Perfect size for both solo and multi crew Speed that can get you out of most bad situations if you get jumped Decent armament for both solo and group gameplay Plenty of room for for ground vehicles Ursa and down. And a beautiful interior with all the comforts I was looking for. The corsairs side turrets was what drove me away from it. I ended up buying a taurus in game to test it out. I liked it, but it flys like a brick and it’s just too damn log and big. Plus the handling is not responsive. Sure you have better pilot weapons compared to the MSR. But if I’m doing something combat oriented I will go jump in a fighter or my Titian instead.
It has that extra gameplay coming, data running. So it will be an interesting ship to follow through the development of gameplay. I own one myself and it is fun to fly, and the looks of it are better than the Connie 😍 Nice review as always!
I call this the sneaky ship (because of the scanning potential and data running potential) but it's not the only data runner, and not the only ship with scanning capability. This jack of all trades (most of them anyway) is a great intro to multi-crew though again, not the only one. Thank you for a great video as per your usual standard.
Great video as I bought the Star Rumner out-right and waited a year for it to release. But as you stated, it didn't take long to tire of running from the rear to cockpit, whew. So I scrapped it for the 400i.
Great review I got my MSR the minute they were first available a couple years back. I actually chose the colors on my elite odyssey fleet carrier to match the MSR😊
Nice review! I really like the star runner, It has a nice feel, enough space to run cargo. Its pretty decent in combat when crewed and it fast! The crawl space and hidden compartment finish the package! Put in a decent QT drive and its a very good daily driver in the verse. The only thing I wonder is the layout of some of the parts. imho they should swap the server room(s) with the scanning station, and add some weapon racks near the elevator. And hopefully one day an extra entry/exit for docking with a ladder near the cockpit.
I'm glad I watched this review before buying the red alert edition on the gray market, I was a bit skeptical about the ship, I just saw it was fast and red alert skin, but dug a bit deeper before buying, I compared it against a few other ships and asked my org the following: ----------------------------------------------- Why do people like the MSR so much? Simply cause it reminds them of The Millennium Falcon due to it's hidden paths and areas? It costs 20 dollar more than the andromeda, but has only 20% of the shield, 25% of the hull HP, I'm not sure what to think of the handling when looking at the stats, it weighs 4x as much as the andromeda for some reason, but has about 5x the thrust, about 20% mroe maneuverable total? I guess it comes down to giving up LOTS of durability, firepower and missile payload, fur MUCH more fuel, a bit more mobility (especially SCM and top speed), the only saving grace I see for it is it's ability in the future for data running and scanning missions? The reason I compare the 2 is because they're both classed as medium freight and have similar pricing (although in-game the MSR is about 33% more expensive), I could compare it to the Taurus instead since that's less gunship-y, but that just increase the price difference even more to 70 dollars. Edit: Even the 400i with similar speed, (no datarunning or scanning though), 10 dollar cheaper, better mobility, less quantum but more hydro, half the storage, but 5x the shield, 2x the hull, better pilot firepower and finally better interior layout (a lot of MSR owners apparently get real tired of the walk from the ramp to cockpit real fast) I was interested in the MSR for a bit cause I saw it had a red alert skin and was pretty fast, but now that I compared it to those 3 ships I'm like why bother lol. ------------------------------------------------
Crazy how stuff works sometimes. I fell in love with the MSR, got it, watched them nerf it a few times, and now detest it. Hated the 400i and it's cargo size at launch but love it to pieces now. I think that if they doubled the msr hull strength, added an elevator, and made that tier of cargo hauling more profitable it'd be a winner. Regardless, I think your review is spot on!
Man. You don't make videos. You make a deep and astonishing audio visual experience. Congrats! I'll inspire my self on your videos, for improve the quality of my ones and maybe try to inspire my brasilian folks as you did to me.
The servers should be in the extra space of the scanning room, which would open up that space for other uses. Perhaps a captain's quarters, additional jump seats, more storage, a formal armory, or a personal elevator are all possibilities. The space could even be modular once that functionality is built into the game. The tunnels need external access with a dropdown ladder and more of the components should be accessible from the tunnels. The pilot weapons should be at least two size 4 or 4 size 3. The MSR is in a similar role as the constellation and corsair but is very under-gunned.
I think the amount of firepower that the pilot has is a deliberate choice by the devs to try and make players use the Star Runner as a data and cargo runner instead of a hauler. Edit: made my comment make the point I originally wanted it to.
@@N0V-A42 The key word is "try". Realistically, its size and relatively high EM signature make it a poor runner. It also has a minimum crew of 3, 4 if you include the scanner station. I still think it has more in common to the constellation and corsair, especially with the living and crew quarters. At the bare minimum it seems to want to be a bigger less maneuverable cutlass.
@@vikingatyr4822 It looks like I messed up with the syntax of my original comment and the point I was trying to make didn't come across. I have just edited it so it should make the point I wanted it to originally.
Got one as soon as they came out a massive upgrade from my Freelancer Max, I love the MSR and for soloing it's one of the best out there if not the best and although there are other ships I would like to own I would never get rid of the MSR, well worth getting one.
Every single time I fly my MSR I can't help but spend all my time in 3rd person as she is just so pretty. However, I fly my 400i more due to the access and time to chair. I'd love for CIG to make good on the rumors of the front elevator.
3.17 I was introduced the MSR...I loved it so much that I actually melted one of my ships for it! I usually play with another friend, maybe two, and this is a perfect size ship. Whether it's a solo day or with friends aboard, the MSR is fast, reliable and perfect for a size 3 squad. It's like the fox of the ships...idk why I said that but I did.
Nice review the thing I would like changed is of course a second entrance at the cockpit and retractable turrets to make it look sleeker especially underneath where the current config makes the turret look like a cancer growth. I am hoping the radar footprint will be reduced in line with its smuggling gameplay. Also maybe just me but the flight mechanics in atmosphere are back to front. From centre point, the ship has a very large wing tip to wing tip but very short nose to tail. With that it should pitch quickly but roll slowly but it doesn't. The roll is way too fast and difficult to control and the pitch sluggishly.
I think that the hidden cargo area is implied to be a custom upgrade of sorts, only you as the player would have. not something that is known by the in game government. Obviously other players will know, but for a roll playing stand point, being able to sneak past AI cops trying to scan for space hash is really fun to me. I imagine other msr ships you would see in universe being flown by npcs wouldn’t have these features built in, or else it would be the worst smuggler ship ever. All in all I personally love the Hidden compartments.
@@Farrister not secret, but still welcome in my book. If nothing else rule of cool! Great video by the way, I’ve been going down the ship rabbit hole again, you have a really nice playlist for that.
It's got a fair amount of wasted space (the weirdly large scanning room and the hallway to the cockpit), but I love my MSR. It's a textbook daily driver. Keep an Ursa or Cyclone in the bay, and it's perfect for bunker runs. It looks cool and it flies like a dream. Plus Kotorrr
I think you said it right heart and head have to fight it out ... if and when the scanning data running come then you can use it for that too. I saved up that 5mil and loved going to buy it :) it felt right
I guess the incoming system management for relays and all gonna be in those gerry's tubes. I just wish the elevator would go down outside and serve as a second access to not open that wide ramp.
Still my favorite! thanks for doing this. I only wish they added a second egress point perhaps a ladder in the underbelly. Love your content Farrister.
MSR currently is my favorite ship to transport Quant with and deploy vehicles from. It has a proper ramp instead of the quirky lifts some of its competitors have and the landing gear provides a good base for landings. Really could not justify getting the less capable 400i over it just for looks and a size 3 shield. I also have the 600i so the exploration niche is covered. Since I don't really use it as a daily driver (I like to mix up my activities) the run from the pilot's seat to the ramp isn't that bothersome but I could see where that would get old fast. The interior is pretty great as well. I upgraded my Cutty black to this a while back and have not regretted it.
The fact that the scanning room and dish are located on opposite sides just seems silly. The all glass cockpit makes it feel more like a space convertible and less of a space ship. I wish it had some struts to at least give some definition to the shape.
I got the MSR with the Scoundrel pack when that was available, and it is one of the only ships in that pack I didn't upgrade. Oh and it's one of the few ships you can name. Stylish and fast, I find it fun to use. But, as you noted there are negatives which keep it from being my favorite ship. Similar in esthetic value to me is the Gatac Relien which I own and am looking forward to. Not the most practical ship, but something I could see myself spending hours in easily. A space truckers RV with style, and I would say still mid sized compared to larger ships.
If we compare the MSR to the Taurus (which is what you did in the video) most will choose the MSR for several reasons: the interior is one of the best in the game, it has a scanning station (Taurus does not), data running (in the future), and smuggling (in the future, too). Nice detail showing that KOTOR portion between Bastila and Darth Bandon at the end.
Some might choose the Taurus - bigger cannons, the "tractor beam" turret, cheaper price etc. Also I think that was just "random Jedi/Dark Jedi" on the Endar Spire xD but glad you enjoyed it!
I love my MSR; I enjoy flying her and she's a great way of getting things into place after a reset. There are some niggles, though: there's the hike to the cockpit, yes, and that ties in with the lack of a personnel entrance that doesn't need to open the ship up quite that much: there's a part of me that always wonders if someone's going to manage to get into those crawlways before I'm properly buttoned-up. There's also the huge EM signature (bigger than a Herc's, in fact) when the shields are up, which means that when I want to move a more discreet load I'm taking the 400i instead. And there's a point in common with the 400i, in that I really wish you could retract the turrets. But that doesn't stop me enjoying the ship overall, and being very curious to see what data running looks like in the future. Plus there's going to have to be a Gold Standard pass at some point to give her a docking collar, and that provides an excellent opportunity to revisit her overall layout.
My favourite ship in game. Only thing i think it lacks its a secondary exit. An elevator to the ground and it would be perfect. Theres alot of empty unused space in the scanning room that could easilly acomodate it.
I love my MSR. It is my daily Driver especially to trade Drugs or to do Bunker Missions. The only thing I miss is a secound Entrance. Maybe a small Elevator and a Hatch to enter / leave the ship in EVA. I'd also appreciate a solution to open and close the ship via the Mobi Glass .
It’s my favorite ship and can carry my Ursa Medical vehicle. It is great for ground combat missions for that reason. You can make great money fast taking bounty missions by selling your loot (weapons & armor). It is great for hauling several loads from my prospector. I routinely make well over 1 million UEC by hauling stuff that I find with my prospector. It does all this in style.
One of the future expansions for the game is the ability to build up bases etc, to the scale of customizing ships for others for sale. I can really see the MSR as a goldmine of potential here. - want those rediculous crawl spaces converted to a secret hold area? - move the elevator to outside and forward of the hold, and able to extent out through the hull to the ground, or up unto the top of the hold (maybe a docking port, or hidden stop at the hidden hold area so the Nader cargo can be off loaded onto the ground, or into the main hold) - hey maybe a fast miner or salvager in areas you might need to exit quickly. - more fuel storage for those really big systems. - tanker? I.e. take the huge wealth of wasted space that’s only a gimmick, into a wealth of options.
I just want to add, I'm very excited for the Drake Corsair, and would love to see a review of it, done by you, when or if you have access to one (I can loan you mine when I get it). Same for the Vulture. :)
The thing I look forward to most about this bad boi is the potential to use all that space to augment data running with some cargo money. For now I just love living in the ship
@@Farrister A man can hope! And if they don't or if data running isn't my thing, ill just trade it in for a Corsair and get into "exploring" the insides of other people's ships
Great ship indeed but I can't wait for them to fix the door panels. The walk from the cockpit to the ramp was less annoying when you could choose to leave your doors open. Nice tour!
I guess my vulture is going to farm for this one!. The interiors are made a little bit too much for the show. But I see this ship as the perfect mix to do some trading, mining and going on adventure, and really important for me, amazing visibility. As far as I know (I'm a couple weeks noob) and as you mentioned in the video it's main competitor is the Connie Taurus, but I don't like how it looks, it seems to be a brick when piloting... ¿What could be another alternative to this a little bit of everything gameplay? Please, don't even mention a MISC ship, I have the low visibility they have in the freelancer series. On the other side, you are by far the best ship reviewer. I love the structure of the videos and how well yo explain everything. Thanks for your time!
The MSR is the only ship I bought on concept and while it has it's flaws, it is still my favorite ship. It will be even better once there is data running in the game. If I were able to make changes to it, I'd add an elevator in the hallway just behind the cockpit (similar to what the Connie has) and move the servers into the room where the scanning station is.
Upgrading my Cutlass Black to this if its available during the November sale. Bought one in-game and its perfect as a daily driver. Plus....secret passages. Never knew they were there until watching this video...lol
I've got the MSR, Connie Andromeda, M2 Herc, 400i and several other ships... I do find myself tending to use the MSR and/or the 400i as my daily drivers, especially recently as I've been focusing on the bunker rep grind and the smaller ships mentioned are easier/quicker to load a ground vehicle. The MSR does slightly edge out the 400i for me due to the ability of the MSR to fit an Ursa Rover which is a better vehicle than a Cyclone for being able to carry more than 2 passengers and also having internal storage. They're both similar in combat effectiveness which is equally poor. But they both look good, fly well, move fast, are nimble, and fairly fuel efficient. I do like that the 400i has more ingress/egress options and even a dedicated bay up in the nose for a hover bike (Aopoa Nox fits) or even a 1 to 2 SCU box. The MSR can hold all the same and even a bit more as well.
I feel like those little crawl spaces could be used as a defensive strategy if you ship is boarded when that's available in game. You and a crew could use them to run around the ship popping up to shoot the pirates then ducking back down to run to a different section 🤷🏼♂️
We need better access to the bridge and much like the 600i there is a lot of wasted space. With data running being it’s main purpose I’d like to see the servers in a more secure area. It would also be nice to have a window or two in the crew quarters and eating/recreation area. I really like the msr but there are a few things that have made this an in game purchase for me.

I didn't know about the chess piece to open the trapdoor but from the angle you recorded the footage it looked like a minibar was about to raise from the ground. slightly dissapointed
This IS a jack of all trades and I love it for that.
SHAME! 😄
Haha thanks Nils, glad you enjoyed the references! And I'll happily revisit things as and when we get actual data running!
What a cool ship! Kinda reminds me of a certain smuggler’s ship in another universe…
Unnamed, of course...
Loved the video and the ending was perfect. 🫡
Brilliant, thank you! xD
@2:00 got the starrunner back in march or feb with the fortuna paint. I exchanged it. Recently bought it back thru the program.
I did not know about CRAWL SPACES! That is friggen cool. Thank you.
:)
Thanks Koron, o7
One of your most enjoyable ship reviews ever. Love the KotOR reference! :D
The MSR is one of my all time favourite SC spaceships.
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed the reference! It'll be interesting to see how the ship evolves
Ah good, glad you think so too :)
That would be cool! Although I'm not so sure about the weapons - can't have any ship being too powerful ;)
Love the content, Farrister! Slowly but surely making my way to all the Location Spotlights as well when I get to play! o7
Ah thank you, glad you're enjoying exploring around!
Such a great ship. Can’t believe I get another BIS livery for it. I’m also interested to see the challenge coins for this year’s winners.
Hopefully I did her justice for you!
Great review. Thanks for your work.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Love my MSR. One of the top three most used ships in my fleet.
Cmon, now you gotta name all 3... xD
@@Farrister Top three most used ships:
Prospector
MSR
400i
Great video. Very helpful for my decision making
Great to hear!
Always good to hear from an owner!
I love my MSR. It's my primary ship. But its interior layout leaves a lot to be desired.
Yup...
I really hope the ability to lock doors in their open position will come back. It’s honestly quite tedious to get to and from the cockpit, which is a real shame.
Hope they add at least some sort of interior customization
MSR is home. I would travel somewhere with it, set up camp and start farming
I feel that one!
It's a good all-rounder, I think
I've been flying the MSR about a month and dindt even know about the secret spaces, they where secret :D
nice vid thx =)
No problem!
I melted my MSR and got a 400i and haven't missed the MSR at all. But the secret compartments are secret for NPCs rather than players. We all knew the Millennium Falcon had secret hideaways but the stormtroopers didn't.
it's for playing among us
This is what my MSR turned into as well. Even before the switch, my MSR was way down my list of most-flowns, while the 400i took the top spot almost immediately.
Ah maybe!
Dude ive owned this ship since its been out and is todays old learning about the engineer hatch hidden entrance!!? 🤯🤯🤯🤯
haha
"Hall of doors" is an excellent phrase lol
What would be actually useful is if they created the ship to have tunnel opening variants. You could get one that has two openings for escape. The infiltrators have to figure out which variant it is, or they post people at each one dispersing their crew. The other feature they can add is one way openable doors for some of the crawl space doors, once again making the raiding crew thin out their crews to cover all possible escapes.
Love your review and I wish it was out when I was was figuring out what ship was going to be my “home” ship. I love my MSR and I was a hard choice between the it, the Corsair, and the Taurus. But why I picked the MSR in the end was this:
Flys like a smaller ship
Perfect size for both solo and multi crew
Speed that can get you out of most bad situations if you get jumped
Decent armament for both solo and group gameplay
Plenty of room for for ground vehicles Ursa and down.
💯% agreed. 👍
Good rationale!
Definitely one of my favorite ships!
o7
This is an excellent review. If it wasn't for the long entry/exit time I would be immediately sold.
Thank you - and yes, it's a shame
It has that extra gameplay coming, data running. So it will be an interesting ship to follow through the development of gameplay. I own one myself and it is fun to fly, and the looks of it are better than the Connie 😍
Nice review as always!
3:14 To me, the token elevator should extend out of the ship giving a easy in/out. Never quite understood why the ship only has one way in...
Would make a great change!
And the hidden crawl spawn tunnels could have an escape hatch that is situated on the underside of the ship.
really love the reviews and videos
I call this the sneaky ship (because of the scanning potential and data running potential) but it's not the only data runner, and not the only ship with scanning capability. This jack of all trades (most of them anyway) is a great intro to multi-crew though again, not the only one. Thank you for a great video as per your usual standard.
Ah thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Great video as I bought the Star Rumner out-right and waited a year for it to release. But as you stated, it didn't take long to tire of running from the rear to cockpit, whew. So I scrapped it for the 400i.
Are you preferring the 400i?
Great review I got my MSR the minute they were first available a couple years back. I actually chose the colors on my elite odyssey fleet carrier to match the MSR😊
Nice!
Kinda reminds me of the Ghost or millennium falcon from Star Wars
Totally!
Agreed!
Would love an updated cutlass black review, even though not a lot has changed
Noted :)
I'm glad I watched this review before buying the red alert edition on the gray market, I was a bit skeptical about the ship, I just saw it was fast and red alert skin, but dug a bit deeper before buying, I compared it against a few other ships and asked my org the following:
-----------------------------------------------
Why do people like the MSR so much?
Edit:
Even the 400i with similar speed, (no datarunning or scanning though), 10 dollar cheaper, better mobility, less quantum but more hydro, half the storage, but 5x the shield, 2x the hull, better pilot firepower and finally better interior layout (a lot of MSR owners apparently get real tired of the walk from the ramp to cockpit real fast)
I was interested in the MSR for a bit cause I saw it had a red alert skin and was pretty fast, but now that I compared it to those 3 ships I'm like why bother lol.
------------------------------------------------
Of all of them, I think I prefer the looks of the MSR the most though!
@@Farrister yea I can see that for people who love Crusader Industries design.
Strange how the ships develop over time!
Man. You don't make videos. You make a deep and astonishing audio visual experience. Congrats!
I'll inspire my self on your videos, for improve the quality of my ones and maybe try to inspire my brasilian folks as you did to me.
Too kind, thank you
The servers should be in the extra space of the scanning room, which would open up that space for other uses.
A ladder between the tunnels would be perfect!
@@vikingatyr4822 It looks like I messed up with the syntax of my original comment and the point I was trying to make didn't come across. I have just edited it so it should make the point I wanted it to originally.
In love with my MSR will add new ships but will never do without her.I love the sound of the engines, named myne : 'Nemesis MSR'
Good name!
Got one as soon as they came out a massive upgrade from my Freelancer Max, I love the MSR and for soloing it's one of the best out there if not the best and although there are other ships I would like to own I would never get rid of the MSR, well worth getting one.
:)
damn, it's so expensive tho
Every single time I fly my MSR I can't help but spend all my time in 3rd person as she is just so pretty. However, I fly my 400i more due to the access and time to chair. I'd love for CIG to make good on the rumors of the front elevator.
Beautiful
This ship is so cool.. I’m tempted to buy it with real money
Millenium Falcon, gotcha.
Perfect for "Solo" play 👍
Haha I see what you did there!
I traded mine up to a Harbinger a couple of days ago. I never fell in love with it like I did with the 600i.
There's a lot to be said for personal preference!
I know exactly what you mean! Love these ships that are the right size for solo, as well as small group!
I hadn't really considered those atmospherics, but I see what you mean!
Oh yeah, they're a fun concept, and definitely play in to the Millennium Falcon vibe. Just not really "secret" is all!
Haha KOTOR optional xD
Love the MSR. Between the 325 and this ship, I have two daily drivers depending on what I'm doing that day.
Good choices!
When doing cargo runs the run from the cockpit to exit takes forever. But by leaving the hatch open you can run rather straight out.
Haha I'm too scared for that xD
I think you said it right heart and head have to fight it out ... if and when the scanning data running come then you can use it for that too. I saved up that 5mil and loved going to buy it :) it felt right
Yup - I love that about Star Citizen! It'll be interesting to see how she evolves
I guess the incoming system management for relays and all gonna be in those gerry's tubes.
I just wish the elevator would go down outside and serve as a second access to not open that wide ramp.
*retrieves spanner for maintenance work*
Still my favorite! thanks for doing this. I only wish they added a second egress point perhaps a ladder in the underbelly. Love your content Farrister.
That would be awesome! I heard rumours of a docking collar, but will wait until I see it... And thank you :)
This is my Dreamship to own in SC! hopefully one day......!
A good size for that too - you could easily get 3-4 loads of quanta in the back
Ditto for me, that's the exact same reason I got the MSR and I also have a 600i
The fact that the scanning room and dish are located on opposite sides just seems silly. The all glass cockpit makes it feel more like a space convertible and less of a space ship. I wish it had some struts to at least give some definition to the shape.
I hadn't really thought about the dish and the chair, but you're right lol
Now I understand why people love this ship.
:)
Agreed! I should have mentioned about the naming!
She is a great ship, also has significant internal storage for Bunkers as well.
Ah good point!
They tried to make the millennium falcon, but it isn’t there. IIRC it used to be a lot smaller, I think I’d actually like to see that ship
I think it's a good size, only that the space could be used better
Love this ship defently my daily driver
A good looking ship for that!
Great notes, I'm also curious to see more about data running, and docking!
My favourite ship in game. Only thing i think it lacks its a secondary exit. An elevator to the ground and it would be perfect. Theres alot of empty unused space in the scanning room that could easilly acomodate it.
Agreed!
squeezed the ursa in it the other day fits nice and snug lol i love this ship use it as a daily
That back bay is so useful!
Absolutely love my MSR. Are the doors a pain sometimes? Sure. But it flies like a dream and is a great home in the stars
I can relate to all of that lol
I love my MSR. It is my daily Driver especially to trade Drugs or to do Bunker Missions. The only thing I miss is a secound Entrance. Maybe a small Elevator and a Hatch to enter / leave the ship in EVA. I'd also appreciate a solution to open and close the ship via the Mobi Glass .
Agreed!
Good summary.
Glad you think so!
One of the future expansions for the game is the ability to build up bases etc, to the scale of customizing ships for others for sale. I can really see the MSR as a goldmine of potential here.
- want those rediculous crawl spaces converted to a secret hold area?
- move the elevator to outside and forward of the hold, and able to extent out through the hull to the ground, or up unto the top of the hold (maybe a docking port, or hidden stop at the hidden hold area so the Nader cargo can be off loaded onto the ground, or into the main hold)
- hey maybe a fast miner or salvager in areas you might need to exit quickly.
- more fuel storage for those really big systems.
- tanker?
I.e. take the huge wealth of wasted space that’s only a gimmick, into a wealth of options.
I have the MSR, and I had no idea about the hidden access under the chess board
"Secret" xD
In the future those hidden passages will be used for engineering nodes. So you'll be able to do impromptu bypass repairs etc.
Possibly, would be cool!
I just want to add, I'm very excited for the Drake Corsair, and would love to see a review of it, done by you, when or if you have access to one (I can loan you mine when I get it). Same for the Vulture. :)
Totally would love to, both of those ships look really interesting to me!
The thing I look forward to most about this bad boi is the potential to use all that space to augment data running with some cargo money. For now I just love living in the ship
Hopefully it would be quite easy to implement too? Or maybe not xD
@@Farrister A man can hope! And if they don't or if data running isn't my thing, ill just trade it in for a Corsair and get into "exploring" the insides of other people's ships
Ahh there is the button for the crawling section of the ship. Knew there was this in the ship but forgot where the button was.
:)
Great ship indeed but I can't wait for them to fix the door panels. The walk from the cockpit to the ramp was less annoying when you could choose to leave your doors open. Nice tour!
Would be nice!
its one of the better looking ships imo. something i can see myself living in if i was a crew of a scifi show
Totally!
I like your suggestions!
Upgrading my Cutlass Black to this if its available during the November sale. Bought one in-game and its perfect as a daily driver. Plus....secret passages. Never knew they were there until watching this video...lol
haha, it's a really iconic choice!
I really wish they would make one of the turrets remote for the pilot for when you are soloing.
well I guess the secret passages aren't so secret.. lol (also great video as always, Farrister.)
Exactly! And thank you :)
Great notes!
Just to confirm it can be flown by just one person
Yes, it can
Then whynis the min crew 2 ?
The lack of 2nd entrance and the wasted space below decks are serious detractions from a very nice design.
I know what you mean - still love the personality of the ship though!
Forever one of my Pledge Ships 🖤
It's home
Iconic!
Amazing upload farrister!!! My concern is if all players know about the secret storage. Then what will make it secret.
True, I suppose!
I feel like those little crawl spaces could be used as a defensive strategy if you ship is boarded when that's available in game. You and a crew could use them to run around the ship popping up to shoot the pirates then ducking back down to run to a different section 🤷🏼♂️
Whack-a-mole xD
@@Farrister I can just imagine sneaking through the ship and all of a sudden 3 people pop up from the floor and just light you up 😂
I have something like 23 ships and this is my favorite for sure. In many ways it is the Millennium Falcon of Star Citizen..
23?!
@@Farrister yeah a good job in Cybersecurity funds my SC habit :)
Yup...
