@@visualsbyst What I dislike about the Zfc is the plastic built. I have the original Nikon grip from Japan, so that makes it a bit better, but the dials on top are a dirt magnet.
I agree. The built isn’t very good. Unfortunately, this is a trend. Pretty much every new release seems to be worse than the previous models. I’ve heard this about the Fuji XT5, and I think the ZF isn’t where it should be in terms of build. It’s fine, but not great. Companies are justifying it by saying they have to cut costs somewhere, but I think that’s bull.
While 4K 60 fr. video is cropped, 4K 30fr. is full width. Not all of need 60 frames per second in 4K, but it is nice to have for action video or slow motion playback.
@@visualsbystthat’s a hilarious response. Love it. Agree with Carlos as well. I have a Sony A7R5, and yes Sony’s autofocus is unmatched, but Nikon has made great strides and have almost caught up.
If I understand correctly, that model records 10-bit video in HEVC which is 4:2:0 instead of the 4:2:2 that’s in Apple ProRes 422. What do you think about the video quality when you manipulate the color in video editing software?
Wow, so I thought I was going to answer that question easily. I could swear that I read it is 4:2:2, but I think that was just on rumour sites before it was released. I just tried to find that information and I can’t. Nikon doesn’t list any of that. It just says 10-bit video. Sketchy. I also couldn’t find the max bitrate on Nikon’s site, either. Very strange. That being said, I can see the quality is better over 8-bit. I can push the colours a bit further in post and they look a bit richer.
The differences aren't major enough between 420 and 422 for most people using this kind of camera. If video editing workflow in terms of colour is really important, there's only Blackmagic cameras in the pro-sumer price bracket for that with the B-RAW.
Not necessarily. Exposure compensation just adjusts exposure automatically to whatever you set it. However, what it will adjust, depends on what you have on auto. For example, if you’re in aperture priority and you have your ISO at 100, exposure compensation will only automatically manipulate the shutter speed to adjust the exposure. In which case, ISO will always be at the lowest. But if you have ISO at auto, it will raise the ISO automatically if the scene is too dark. So it all depends.
I have used the Z6, not the II. It comes down to a couple of things. Are you more comfortable with a deep grip? The Zf isn’t very easy to hold. And do you need internal 10-bit video? I’m sure there are slight differences in autofocus and some other things, but it’s not night and day. If you don’t care for video and need a nice grip, go for the Z6 or Z7 II.
The autofocus isn’t amazing on either. Nikon isn’t known for amazing autofocus. That’s why I’m saying it’s a slight difference. A big difference would be if you switch to Canon or Sony.
Nikon: let's make a digital version of an FM2... but let's make it Z mount, so nobody can use their F mount manual AiS lenses (that we still manufacture) without an adapter that completely ruins the aesthetic, size, and handling.
If they didn’t make it a Z mount, they’d sell 100 cameras and it’d be a loss. I get that a few want true retro, but that doesn’t work on the market. Just like there are some that would be interested in a new release retro film camera, but the market is so small that it doesn’t make sense for Nikon to work on those anymore.
@visualsbyst I disagree. I see young people walking around with film cameras all the time here in NYC. And Leica is doing just fine selling $6000 digital cameras that are manual focus only. If Nikon had made an F-mount digital FM2, for $1800 body only, they would have sold thousands of them immediately.
Nah totally disagree, that’s what adapters are for. 1. They’re obviously moving forward with the Z-Line. Doesn’t make sense to manufacture soon to be phased out lenses. 2. They are making quadruple or more profits doing this. 3. What nikon should do is make a z line separate manual lenses that looks like those SE version they have
@incognigato any Z mount lens, including manual only lenses if they ever made them (which they won't), will always be oversized for the body, because Z mount is a medium format sized mount. And this is not "what adapters are for".
Yeah, seriously. Obviously not jeans pocket. Jacket pocket. Without the lens, no problem. I have a winter jacket and I could fit it with a lens in the pocket.

One of the most beautiful camera release in a while. Can't wait to add one to my kit.
I have bought the black Zfc like a year ago (when it was launched). I wish I waited for this. So tempted to sell and buy the Zf...
They’re both great to be honest.

Ibis sure is a nice thing to have. I have a Z5 and the ibis is very good in that camera too.
Yup. Exactly.

Yes, 30fps is never cropped in any other cameras. At least I’ve never heard of 30fps being cropped in any other camera.
You forgot the subject detection with manual focus lenses
Nah. Then I’d have to rename the video to “5 things Carlos loves about Nikon ZF” 😂😂😂

Yes, Nikon’s autofocus is fine. It’s nowhere near Sony’s or Canon’s. I don’t like to lie to myself even though I use Nikon. 😂

Does exposure compensation add noise if you were in dark location and you boosted it by 2 stops?
Not necessarily. Exposure compensation just adjusts exposure automatically to whatever you set it. However, what it will adjust, depends on what you have on auto.
