On the "upside", of course, lots of track will be moved underground allowing DB to sell the land and generate profit for the federation. Also moving Altona makes way more sense turn it 45 degrees move it northwards and now it's actually on the corridor it's serving.
The costs increases is one thing and usually expected for these mega projects. The bigger problem is that the 8 railway platforms won't be enough to support the planned Deutschlandtakt. So the new railway station will cause significant delays in the grid plans.

About the "island incest" thing here an example: In 1903 a largely complete skeleton was discovered in Gough's cove in somerset (england). The skeleton was dated to an age of around 10.000 years. In 2019 scientists were able to do a genome analysis of that skeleton. And they found a direct descendant of that person living only half a mile away and teaching history at a local school.

As a German I can confirm that the scene with Ulrich von Heese and the "2000 years of island incest" was supposed to sound extremely harsh and impolite, but after all it was still meant to be seen in the context of satire and therefore as a pun, a pun near the knuckle but also quite hilarious ;
As a person out of the area of Stuttgart I can tell you that this stuttgart 21 voting causes a lot of problems with here. Different Underground lanes or stations take turn to get completly blocked for months over the past few years. Because of the roadworks around the big area of the construction site the traffic by car is disturbed as well. No need to start talking about the 15 Minutes pedestrian walk around the main station if you need to change between different types of trains. The referendum of the people was back in 2011 when the construction work and the problems started and there published new costs every half a year. Big protests were there within stuttgart at that time and police used their water canons against the demonstrants. Parts of the new governance of Baden-Württemberg (german state stuttgart is located in) that time wanted to deescalte the situation with referendum about a law that forces the governance to cancel the project. So the referendum was actually about the law not S21, so if you wanted S21 to be canceled you would have need to vote 'Yes' and if you wanted it to be continued you needed to Vote for 'No'. with 58% of votes for 'No' out of the whole state area (Not only Stuttgart)the referendum ended up backing Stuttgart 21. Of couse after that referendum some more hidden costs were published but the protests didn't get big again at all. If you are interested why a lot of people did not want S21 to be build I recommend the "Die Anstalt" episode about the Deutsche Bahn (DB) from January 29th, 2019. Maybe someone will translate it in the future.
Me, as a german, just love english people, just for there serenity and I rly like red hair! The main problem with referendums is that people answer to the person asking rather than to the question. It takes a strong referendum culture to avoid it, meaning a lot of very regular referendums (once a year or more frequently, on various subjects) are required for people to start focusing on the matter at hand rather than on what message they want to send to politicians. The Swiss seem to have managed that pretty well but I’m not sure there are that many other examples.

I think Ulrich van Heesen's piece was not too far over the edge to German satire or comedy standards, although the incest allusion was quite tough (but also funny, of course). Ulrich van Heesen is just his comedy name for the Heute Show, by the way. His real name is Dietrich Hollinderbäumer and he is a German-Swedish actor who is quite popular and already 81 years old.
I know Oliver Welke for 25 years now, starting with a Radio show with Oliver Kalkofe. It was so funny... The shocker prolly is, that Welke was a serious sport show moderator too.
About Stuttgart 21: 15 years after they had started the building site, they asked whether or not we wanted the Station. So the question was not whether or not we wanted a new Station but whether or not we wanted a poisened building site for ever. In my 12th year in school which was in 2000, we still had geography books with the DDR... No money for that after 11 years of reunion, but for an unneccessary Station... No comment...its a disgrace😊
I‘ve never heard of 2000 years of Island incest in my life.. Considering the Roman invasion, the Celtish invasion from Ireland, the Angles, the Saxons, the Danes and the Norwegian Vikings, the Norman invasion… The best you can do is a 1000 years….😆
Oliver Welke is mainly a TV Presenter, but he dubbed Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie with Oliver Kalkofe (try him, too!) and apperead in the latter's two Edgar Wallace-parodies Der Wixxer 1 & 2 in a cameo role.
the "island incest" is something which comes up a lot in Germany when talking about England ... just look at the typical crooked teeth in England and other DNA deteriorations. It is somewhat obvious when walking around in England, in the same way you immediately notice Americans are incredibly fat when you step out of any airport arriving in the US. I know this is not a very nice thing to say, but it has some truth to it, doesn't it? You react surprised of it being said on the heute show (which is, by the way *extremely* popular in Germany, for the same reason you like it so much), but in the audience inside the studio people probably just nodded when the "2000 years of island incest" was mentioned. (by the way, heute is like Porsche ... the ending 'e' is pronounced :) ). Great video, I love your enthusiasm and comments, and promoting the show to an English / Scottish audience!
Tbh, i absolutely despise reaction content on RUclips, but your channel is different somehow. You give your own intelligent input on topics and try to start the dialog between nations, i really like that idea! Thank you!
The host, Oliver Welke, also played in a German movie "Der Wixxer" (the jerk), which is a German parody to Edgar Wallace movies. It is filled with German comedy celebraties and one of the funniest movies of all time in Germany. It might be also be fun for you, as there are more British related puns than German ones
At the 9:10 the Correspondent von Heesen is played by a Swedish actor of German descent, no german actor would have dared to say that. 2000 years of island…..
With Stuttgart21 it's a different story. That was a referenum about a railway project that had been allowed by the government. It took place because the amount of monex necessary to follow through with the project basically tripled. The problem was that the people had to vote against an actually existing law, so if you were against the project you would have to vote "yes". The press titled weeks after weeks "Stuttgart21 yes or no" implanting an opposite syntax to the actual referendum which pretty much overwhelmed the intellectual capacity of many people...
Together with "Die Anstalt", this is my most favourite satire show and frankly the only German TV stuff I'm watching nowadays. I couldn't agree more with what you were saying. It's just so intelligent and funny at the same time. It helps while situations are really frustrating :)
Well... in my region in the south of Germany, I actually live near Stuttgart and have seen the project Stuttgart 21 (which should be renamed to Stuttgart 23 or Stuttgart 24... or or or...), we like to call the British "Island Monkeys", Inselaffen :D Not in a bad intention but just to make fun of them ^^ I really like your channel and in general like the Scottish people. Love you accent, reminds me very much of Amy MacDonald, who is Scottish herself :D Or Sean Connery, who always sounded like "God s(h)ave the Queen" :D
I've been watching this show since 2017 and I can recommend the segments with Olaf Schubert. Also I have to say I think it's very sweet that you celebrate our satire 😊
Do not think that you have the worst politicians who have no idea. Here in Germany it is no better. I also watch the Heute Show regularly, but unfortunately I can't laugh so much about it anymore because it's just so depressing what's happening in Germany, the EU and elsewhere. Ulrich van Heesen, by the way, is already borderline in our country, but to the point.
A representative study by the Tui Foundation showed this year: Of 7,000 16 to 26-year-olds surveyed in Germany, Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Poland, only 22 percent believe that they will one day be better off than their parents. Corona, war, inflation, climate change... Other countries are also affected. Right-wing extremist parties benefit from this... with their incitement, their lies and their deceit. Right-wing extremism is the greatest threat to democracy and not the current crises.
Stuttgart 21 referendum was a mess. Many people did not even understand the simple question that was something like: "Do you want to use the option to chancel the contract?" That would be like the brexit referendum being "Do you want the prime minister to invoke article 50 of the Treaty on European Union?"
It is really funny to see these videos again and I enjoy it to see your reaction. Sometime the missunderstandings and bad translations but also to see that german sarkasm works and that we share the same humor. Normally I am not fan of that kind of videos, but I use it to get a better understanding for english language and also the mentality for british people. It is nice to see that you like german things so much. Even if the content is older, these are still great artists you are watching. I like your comments very much. On point. You have a strong accent and I wonder where this is spoken. Like that as well because it’s different from Oxford English but for me as a German still easy to understand.
I love that you like the humor, back in the day when I watched this show (I don't live in Germany anymore) I thought it was quite lame compared to other satire that we had like "Die Anstalt" and the one I liked the most "Scheibenwischer". You are doing fantastic. You could increase the frequency of your videos, because it is very nice to watch you. I already know all the episodes you're watching but it's a nice flashback and fun to watch again. Keep it up.
The Problem is "heute Show" is no Kabarett Show, it is a Kabarett Weekly News Spot like a normal News Spot. So it is difficult to set a point on one topic.
Stuttgart 21 was the idea of a underground Train station for some tons of money , but we have to cut down a lot of trees in the park. so demostration but they got a "experience" of Repautoire of Police violents , that tooks a long of time and growing constructions cost on speed. People realy hate that Prestige- building
Loving your Heute Show interest and reactions! Oliver Welke, Lutz van der Horst and Fabian Köster are geniuses. If I could be ultra picky, it’s pronounced “Hoy-Tuh” and not “Hoyt”, and Oliver “Vel-ka” 😉
There is a complete episode covering 'Stuttgart 21' by 'Die Anstalt', if you want to know more about that - not sure if there is an English translation though
Of course the commentary is over the top and meant tongue in cheek but.... it's not entirely unfair is it. I just enjoy this channel for featuring a scotsman appreciating German humour, that's yeti style rare.
I remember a billboard in stuttgart claiming stuttgart 21 would cost no more than 3,6 billion - as a promise! The billboard was from the CDU party. That was before the peoples referendum. Now they are at 9,15 billion and still going up^^
The difference between Stuttgart 21 and BREXIT is that Stuttgart 21 was actually legally binding (the regional government had to comply with the result) while BREXIT was a glorified opinion-poll.
That doesn't change Welke's point at all. The Stuttgart voters caved in to the press propaganda asking them if they REALLY wanted to throw away the 1,5 billion Euros which had already been committed? The true answer was "it wasn't us that threw the money away, sort it out yourselves", but voters are too weak and too stupid to reply in this way.
The stuttgart 21 vote was rigged towards the outcome we now have. They asked the entire bundesland, instead of the people around stuttgart who are actually affected by it, then they also made it very unclear what you're actually voting for to the point where newspaper articles had to explain what "yes" or "no" actually means on the document. Also, we never had the option to stop S21 entirely, only to stop paying for it. In the end i'm not entirely sure what the result was, as it's been quiet a while but i think to remember that it wasn't decided by majority, but because there weren't enough votes to reach the requirement (33% of population against it) to stop S21 (mainly because they asked the entire bundesland).
There is a phenomenal video about Stuttgart21 by Die Anstalt. One of the best bits Die Anstalt ever made in my opinion. I just don't know if there are any english subtitles.
Two very fitting quotes on democracy are commonly attributed to Winston Churchill: 1) ‘The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.’ 2) ‘Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time….’
Ulrich von Heesen (the "correspondetn" making the island incest joke) is a character known for being inappropriate and a bit too sexual. He is played by Dietrich Hollinderbäumer, a super beloved actor.
If theres one thing I can recommend is the "Harald Schmid Show" It´s a very simular kind of humor but even deeper and probably one of the peaks of german comedy.

@@Celisar1 if they leave any corrupt and undemocratic entity ... they have to leave their own country now ... House of Lords ... just saying
As a German, I am so impressed that you are interested in our comedy.
About 'direct speech', that comedian is known for the bluntness in his tone. People laugh because of his drastic way of talking. I'll get a subscription of your channel !
All the best to you!
Guys, German satire was almost the only thing I can watch on German TV without puking for a very long time.
I guess our friends on the island appreciate the sarcasm. I've watched plenty of reactions to german satire and almost no one got the humor like he does in here.
I guess we need to organize again and start translating German satire history. He gonna love it.
Does he have a Discord in which we can start a conversation about that?
I think Theresa May had a nervous laugh, a bit exhausted
„Realer Irrsinn“ is great too :) Or the show „extra 3“ in general.
Gernot Hassknecht is my favorite part on the Heute Show he does "the comment" His best of is nice :D.
Heute Show, die Anstalt and Neo Magazin Royal are actually the only three TV Shows i Still watch regularly on German TV. And Sometimes extra 3 and Quer, two other Satire Shows.
7:00 Wasnt it churchill who said something on the line of ,a five minute diskussion with the common voter is the best argument against democracy'? Best example.
No.
it's like "harry, hol schon mal den wagen" everyone knows this quotes which were never said ;)
@@karstenbalamagi8463 never knew He did not really say that. Needed to Google it.
The closer you feel to someone, the harder the jokes about them may be. We love the people of the British island, Irish, Scots, Welsh, and yes, also the English. At least - I do... :-)
I suggest two other Clips for reactions for you, Mert. "Commedians for World Peace" and "United States Of Europe [Gibraltar to Spitsbergen, Cayenne to Crimea]". Both are by Jan Böhmermann and his awesome show Neo Magazin Royale. Give it a try! 😀Oh, and switch on english subtitles they are pretty acurate. 👍
The last "e" in "heute" is actually also pronounced in German.
So it's technically not like "hoyt", it's more like "hoyt-uh" 😅 👍🤝
About the "island incest" thing here an example: In 1903 a largely complete skeleton was discovered in Gough's cove in somerset (england). The skeleton was dated to an age of around 10.000 years. In 2019 scientists were able to do a genome analysis of that skeleton. And they found a direct descendant of that person living only half a mile away and teaching history at a local school.
Oh, I think you're gonna like the Boris Johnson episodes. Don't know which to recommend, but I'll watch your video
You deserve way more Subs! The moment I was really impressed, was, when I saw your reactions to Volker Pispers... You showed so much knowledge, it was impressive!! I know, you don't live in the U.K. at the moment, but maybe we can at least get Scotland independent and the join the EU again! :D
Greetings from Germany!
Well, the Vikings often came to the island!😂
The Viking Gene prolonged the inevitable.
As a German I can confirm that the scene with Ulrich von Heese and the "2000 years of island incest" was supposed to sound extremely harsh and impolite, but after all it was still meant to be seen in the context of satire and therefore as a pun, a pun near the knuckle but also quite hilarious ;
I enjoy listening to you. Your accent is so cool. Greetings from germany
Over the the top but correctly representing the overall feelings
I can recommend the takes on Trump and Boris Johnson, there are a bunch of good 'episodes'
Me, as a german, just love english people, just for there serenity and I rly like red hair!
With this start i was able to work with an engl.spk teacher at lower school, teaching gardening in Stuttgart for one year, I just loved it!
At the same way I love your vids Mert, I need to learn too!
Thank you from my deepest!

Oliver Welke lends his voice to David Walliams as a dubbing artist in "little Brittain"
That`s funny that Teresa May and Angela Merkel are such good friends and wear the same jacket. That`s true friendship.🤣
About Stuttgart 21:
15 years after they had started the building site, they asked whether or not we wanted the Station.
Considering the Roman invasion, the Celtish invasion from Ireland, the Angles, the Saxons, the Danes and the Norwegian Vikings, the Norman invasion…
The best you can do is a 1000 years….😆

Love these reactions! Please do more!
there is a great "Stuttgart 21" bit from "Die Anstalt" wich explains everything perfectly
3:00 The same also did happen with a German Politician (Armin Laschet) which laughed at a press conference after the biggest flood in years (Ahrtal).
He did not only appear in the movies, he wrote and effectively co-produced them. The movies were the brainchild of Kalkofe and Welke.
@@SamWinchester000Thanks for the info!
the "island incest" is something which comes up a lot in Germany when talking about England ... just look at the typical crooked teeth in England and other DNA deteriorations.
I agree when I went to visit England many did look inbred
Good reaction!
As for 2000 years of intrafamily relations… the highest degree of that is within the royals and there, we are involved quite heavily (see Habsburg).
Their (first?) video on Boris Johnson is titled: "Boris Johnson: no plan B aside from no-deal Brexit" It's nice.
4:02 On average, ZDF has older viewers. Heute Show is broadcast by ZDF
to watch ZDF or ARD makes you old? that is bias
It's just the stats, most viewers are veeery old.
@@SamWinchester000 can be true for linear TV also the data for 80 million ppl is represented by 11k ppl
Tbh, i absolutely despise reaction content on RUclips, but your channel is different somehow. You give your own intelligent input on topics and try to start the dialog between nations, i really like that idea! Thank you!
The Heute Show about the Danish border was the greatest (cool rock music). Second best, the ones about the Bundeswehr.
I'm german, but everytimme I watch your videos, the RUclips ads think that I'm english and want to learn german 😂
7:30 For Stuttgart 21 see "Die Anstalt" from "29.01.2019"
At the 9:10 the Correspondent von Heesen is played by a Swedish actor of German descent, no german actor would have dared to say that.
Well... in my region in the south of Germany, I actually live near Stuttgart and have seen the project Stuttgart 21 (which should be renamed to Stuttgart 23 or Stuttgart 24... or or or...), we like to call the British "Island Monkeys", Inselaffen :D Not in a bad intention but just to make fun of them ^^
I really like your channel and in general like the Scottish people.
Auch wenn’s im Leben stürmt und kracht, Humor ist, wenn man trotzdem lacht ❤
A representative study by the Tui Foundation showed this year: Of 7,000 16 to 26-year-olds surveyed in Germany, Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Poland, only 22 percent believe that they will one day be better off than their parents.
Corona, war, inflation, climate change... Other countries are also affected.
Right-wing extremist parties benefit from this... with their incitement, their lies and their deceit. Right-wing extremism is the greatest threat to democracy and not the current crises.
There is a good shw from "Die Anstalt" for the Stuttgart 21 Situation
You could take a look at jan bohmermann and his zdf show. He is targeting more the younger people and less "loud direct" but more "smart direct"
I watch "heute-Show" regulary and the edited preview images are always a highlight.
"extra 3" had a few songs about Boris Johnson, these might be funny to watch aswell. I think they have (german?) subtitles by standard
Stuttgart 21 referendum was a mess.
Many people did not even understand the simple question that was something like: "Do you want to use the option to chancel the contract?"
That would be like the brexit referendum being "Do you want the prime minister to invoke article 50 of the Treaty on European Union?"
Some content is regional but what you have also to watch is from the second German television (ZDF) Mr. Jan Böhmermann with his show ZDF Magazin Royal. You will love it too. I am waiting for new videos and will be happy to continue watching.
Is the Mediathek regionally limited? Otherwise he would sure find some nice content there too, however I would not know if they offer English subs
@@mvhdsk1122 The Mediathek is not limited (only some content e.g. football results), but some broadcasts are limited for one year. They offer mostly only German subs
among the best parts of the heute show is Gernot Hassknecht (you can translate his name to "Ger(man)distress hate-servant") and his yearly recaps and general replies to situations
on another note: i am still wondering why the heute shows title is displayed so big on top of the video... copyright issues?
Yes, Hassknecht is great!
And to the latter, that's also my guess...
But that was 80ies and 90ies?
But watching the show through your eyes is real fun.
You reacting to these in order makes it feel like this shit is still ongoing :')
What carefree and happy times those were...
You are doing fantastic. You could increase the frequency of your videos, because it is very nice to watch you.
I already know all the episodes you're watching but it's a nice flashback and fun to watch again. Keep it up.
Heute show is part of the public legal tv and you do not have to censor the video in any way ☺ really enjoying your reactions!
This show is great. I dont miss a show.once a week
There are not many german Cabaret peronalities, but here is one extraordinaire: Andreas Rebers (on youtube)
There is a phenomenal video about Stuttgart21 by Die Anstalt. One of the best bits Die Anstalt ever made in my opinion. I just don't know if there are any english subtitles.
Some time ago i asked my psychologist if only in Germany social competence training focusses on being direct. He had no clue.
Two very fitting quotes on democracy are commonly attributed to Winston Churchill:
1) ‘The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.’
2) ‘Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time….’
The Stuttgart 21 bashing is so real
Ulrich von Heesen (the "correspondetn" making the island incest joke) is a character known for being inappropriate and a bit too sexual. He is played by Dietrich Hollinderbäumer, a super beloved actor.
Heute Show is always interesting, but depends on actual things happening.
If there is no summer-break, it's just a weekly look at the world.
There is an episode from Die Anstalt about Stuttgart 21 if you like to find out more about it, but I’m not sure if it has english subtitles
"What is your favourite political crisis..." love it😄
Oh, wait till Welke get's to Boris Johnson!😈 John Oliver also delivered some nice Brexit- und Johnson-Punches.
If theres one thing I can recommend is the "Harald Schmid Show"
It´s a very simular kind of humor but even deeper and probably one of the peaks of german comedy.
I don’t know why but me as a German I like watching how you like our satire and comedy and you don’t take it too serious…at the end we all just want a good laughter! And trust me the show is roasting our politicians and our people also as hard as it gets 😂
