I was one who never used a blow dryer or flat iron on my natural hair
Until this one time my BF asked what my hair looked like straight
So I got a silk press
And from that ONE interaction with heat I had about 9-11inches of damage.
I was almost waist length y’all
    So I was MAAAAAAD.
    It’s a year later and I’m transitioning
But I’m still not over it.
And now me and him ain’t even together no more.

i did blow dry my hair twice or once a month and my hair was healthy. then i decide to silk press my hair for the holiday. firstly when it got silk pressed it wasn’t even that straight, you could still see the frizz and the roots were slightly curled so i didn’t think i was going to get heat damage. later when i went to jamaica and washed it out i didn’t see any damage at all but then once i got to england again i noticed a lot of straight parts. i’m planning to big chop my hair or try a hair mask because apparently that might work so imma pray

@@surreal5864 Try a clarifying shampoo first before big chopping. Those products in the silk serum seems to weigh the hair down and clarifying shampoo will get it out.

I always wondered why every time I washed my hair, no matter which shampoo/conditioner I used, it continued to look frizzy. I had many angry moments when I was in the verge of cutting off all of my hair. People in my class kept telling me to straighten my hair so I did and I just made it worse. I used to have curly hair as a toddler and my mum wondered whether it was trying to come back, we started doing thing differently (air drying, using natural product, etc) and my hair went curly! I got so many complements about how nice my hair looked and I felt so happy with how I looked!

Great video!! I found a really great stylist she flat ironed my hair and layered it so beautifully for the first time after I big chopped and my curls bounced back every time!! She said if you go beyond a certain temperature the bonds break down and the hair goes straight. A few months ago I asked her to turn up the heat and sure enough the majority of my hair went straight. Once she turned the temp back down my new growth had no problem reverting so it’s safe to say you have to get salon professional advice and stay in the safe zone temperatures when straightening especially if you have finer hair ...I won’t let anybody touch my hair but her lol.

As someone who has permanent damage and can never grow healthy natural 4c hair, I flat ironed my hair after showering; no heat protectant. I blow dried my hair on high heat every day. I bleached my hair with high volume... and colored it a lot. I threw my chance of having good natural hair away and I regret it deeply.

Heat was too high. During washing One side is bone straight the other side is waves. And I have coily 4c hair. I look like I’ve had yrs of heat damage when it’s only been one time this year. Trying to find a solution to fix it in 1-2 months, if not then I have to do a big chop for the first time. ☹️. I should’ve just gotten a wig if I wanted to switch it up so much. I miss my afro 😔. First wash after silk press and I smelled that sickening burnt smell, 2nd week after I knew what I thought it was, did acv rinse, protein treatment, dc/hot oil treatment, the smell is gone but so are my curls. I twisted it and my twist are limp and my hair looks permed from the root down. Thanks for the very informative video, now it’s time face reality and try and get it back healthy. My hair was at its longest and the healthiest it has ever been and now I will be trimming and doing protective styles, damage is from the root down with little waves.

Ok, Guilty, I was in denial, until now. I’m not going to big chop, I’m going to transition. I’m nip length with 3 inches of thick luscious new growth and weird thin hair from 3 inch to my nip. I have a great regimen finally so my hair though heat damaged is very moisturized. Such a shame, I will never touch heat again. My goal was waist length, still is, once my hair reaches waist length, I’m gonna start trimming then til I reach that luscious hair. Thanks for this video, it got me out of denial and into acceptance and progressively doin what I gotta do and not make the same mistakes.

I’ve straightened my hair twice and the first time was fine and I got it done by this lady. Reverted back and was fine but when I got it done the second time I was noticing she was putting to much heat to me head. 3 weeks later I wash my hair put a mask in and some oils to let the curl magic happen but turns out my 4c curls where looser and so many strands were straight! I was furious. Just gonna have to let my hair grow out and keep trimming away. Can’t keep what’s dead 😢

When I was first transitioning my hair, I knew nothing about it. But like after 2 years my natural hair started to show more, but I had like one patch that was straight. And I still continued to flat iron after I took out protective styles to check how long it was.
Anywho, for some reason, that patch is curly like the rest of my hair now. Even though I still flat iron after my protective styles.
I know nothing about my hair honestly. That's why I keep it in protective styles, and I never trim because I know people can be scissor happy.

Man my cousin absolutely RUINED my natural hair. My hair was healthy and down my back. I had safely blowdried and straightened my hair so she could give me a sleek ponytail for a wedding. She went and re-straightened it because she said it was still too thick to sleek it and lied about the temperature, saying it was on 240 when by the end I saw it was on 350. When I washed my hair bro, it's smelt burnt and I washed it 5 times. From the front to the crown of my head, my roots are straight and I have a few whole straight pieces throughout. I was so upset I cried. At least if the heat damage was at the ends I could've just cut it off but it's in my roots so even when I grow it out, it'll be curly straight curl and I'll have to cut it. I bought some Aphogee Damage shampoo, two step protein, and their texture treatment. Hopefully it works bro because I really am confused and upset about everything.

This is by far the most relatable comment! Everything you mentioned happened to me as well, even the part with the wedding! Lol..My hair is bleached blonde, however I did the aphogee protein treatment and I plan on being consistent with my washes/deep conditioning as my natural roots grow out...I also trimmed my hair so I'm excited to see where this journey goes.

Olivia belle02 My sister and cousin attempted to straighten my hair on 430 degrees. The straightest part, which is the back, is now completely damaged. I have some in the front and middle. Just the ends. But I noticed some of my curls are looser. They blend with my other curls so I don’t mind it but as for the back, it’s just gone. 😂😭. Thinking about cutting it.

Hello. Where can I start. I HAD heat damage. Have 4c hair went to a 2bit saloon who had the blow dryer way too hot had used the comb on the blow dryer and was yanking my hair backwards. Result. Heat damage in the front only where she was yanking it. Devastated. It wasn’t bone straight heat damaged but it was heat damaged and straight. I stopped blow drying it for about 6months and kept up with protein treatments and other treatments and the front of my hair DID COIL back. It’s as nappy as hell as if nothing never happened. I didn’t do a big chop but trimmed about an inch off and just left it nappy for 6 months and it’s back to normal. Now I don’t understand. I have no explanation as to why my hair reverted back nappy. May be I received a miracle. I do believe the protein treatments had something to do with it and may be cause the damage was from a bow dryer and not a flat iron if that had anything to do with it. Heat damage CAN be repaired. I think everyone’s hair is different and may be leaving it alone for 6 months and protein treating it helped it. Right now I’m rocking a beautiful blown out 4c Afro and yes I blow dried it again but now I go to professionals. Lots of people on RUclips saying we are being dishonest about repairing heat damage and I’m living proof that a miracle happened.
