Yes same. The front of my hair is curly sometimes and the back is always straight. But somedays I have straight hair and 1 curl in my hair I dont know what to do is used to have a semi afro
When I was younger I used to have beautiful curly hair but now I'm pretty sure my hair is damaged because I used to have it flat ironed a lot and I would always put hair products in my hair. Right now my hair is a poofy wavy mess that looks dry and has little to no curls.😢
What will help is not using heat anymore. Deep condition weekly. Get a good hair cut. My hair doesn't work well with the type of shampoo shes talking about so I use regular shampoo and conditioner. I am currently pregnant so I take prenatals and it helps a lot. It takes time!!! My hair has been a 3 year process and my curls just came back after I cut 3inch off my hair.
nooneimportant 666 maybe she used to much heat. That's what is happening to me I used to have frizzy curly hair and since I straighten it a lot now it's straight from the roots and curly from the ends, so if you want to avoid this then try to use less heat on your hair or no heat at all
nooneimportant 132 bleaching , dying your hair so much can be a major kill added on with the heat damage. Mine is gone completely, I just seen two strands of curls now. I threw away my blow dryer, flat iron and curling iron. My hair is in an ombré blonde so that's what continues to kill it. I need to let go of dying it!
I lost my curls too, i used to straighten my hair everyday, and after a while my hair was never the same :( my hair is just frizzy now and so hard to maintain, its always so dry, i have very thin hair but i have a lot of hair!! I havent used heat on my hair for 2 years, but its still so brittle and the only time my curls come alive a little are when i wash my hair and dont brush it afterwards, but my hair tangles like crazy and ugh nothing helps :( .
I have been dying and straightening my hair more lately and I noticed it took away my natural curls and I have this weird wavy, straight, curl hair now and I want my curls back. This video has me soo excited and I can't wait to try. With my awkward hair, I don't really like leaving it natural and I want to straighten it more but I just want my curls back. Your videos and tutorials leave me excited. I know it will take time but it will be worth it. Thank you.
GoShiShi I haven't been consistent with my recovery so it's still taking awhile. I have noticed my hair growing it's curls back, slowly though. I'm probably a little more than half way natural curls now. I'm sure if I was more vigilant about what I use and the treatments I did it would be more.
Mariaalej Yea, I have been trying for awhile too, over a year, and I do wish it was growing faster. I don't have a lot of money so I use the cheaper natural products. I should probably trim it more often. I've heard that helps it grow. I just want my curly hair back.
Omg this video saved my life. I hated my curls for the longest time and when I finally wanted curls my hair was straight. This video got my curls back. Thank you so much.
I watched this video back in 2014 when I got heat damage and I didn’t put heat on my hair ever again after that until 2020. Now I got heat damage again! I put heat on my hair for the first time in years and now look at me.
Hey I cannot tell u how happy I m that I found this video. Every curly girl online only talks about product reviews. I really wanted one which gave me the process for healthy hair from the beginning. So thank u!!
Great video! Let me just add that when your hair is heat damaged, as in it is basically straight with a slight wave, it's probably not as dry and therefore won't require as much moisture based products and deep conditioners as your naturally curly hair. I currently am dealing with heat damaged hair that has a slight wave and it is SO easy for me to get into moisture overload and my hair starts falling out. However my roots are dryer (because that's my natural curly hair) so that's where I add the moisture based deep conditioner heavily and more moisture products rather than applying it to all of my hair. And vice versa, I apply protein conditioners heavily to the heat damaged parts because my natural hair does not need that much protein. Just thought Id add this because I wish someone had told me this before I started my hair journey. Good luck!
Omg you are my inspiration... I have been straightening my hair since I was 20 I'm now 37 and my curls don't come close to what they were. I have decided to go curly due to severe dry scalp and lack of shine, I have to be honest I hate the way I look with my curls, but your videos are giving me hope. I don't know how to style, tame or control my hair, I have bought all the products recommended, so here I go! Wish me luck and THANK U, THANK U for your videos, please keep them coming!
OMG I've had my hair in a ponytail for over a year because I lost my curls exactly like your picture...somewhat wavy straight...ugh.... I never used any heat ever because I loved my curls but about a year ago my hair has thinned and is very weak and snaps easily. YOU give me hope in getting my curls back one day....
I have been watching RUclips videos since 2007 and I'm very impressed by your channel. You're well-spoken, informative, and extremely helpful. It's nice to NOT hear the same thing repeated over and over again. You definitely bring something new! Much success to you and your channel :)
The awkward stage was the hardest. If i had an event I did a bun too, but i did apply heat. I got it professionally straightened about 4x in a one year period. I made sure to not re-flat iron it at home, only kept it for a 3-5 day period, spent a whole hair day with oil and treatment and then left it out to dry just to check it out my curls and then braid/leave my hair in protective styling for at least week
Ah! My hair used to look exactly like yours :-( I'm trying to recover from heat damage and minimizing heat as much as possible but that middle-stage where my hair is curly in the roots but straight on the ends is soooo ugly lol I dont want to lose length :/
Bonnie Venti my hair used to be curly and frizzy too but since I straighten a lot now the roots are straight and the ends are curly and i just want my natural curly hair back
Bonnie Vent if your hair is straight at the ends only it could be that they're heat damaged. Unfortunately the only way to restore your curls it would be to cut off the damaged ends and start over. I know it sucks to lose length but your hair will be so healthy
I have been straightening my hair with strictly only wet 2 straight straighteners for 10 years... in 2015 December i decided not to straighten my hair for a year to get my curls back i ended up just falling back in 2016 i used to have the best curls n i love this video because it gave me assurance that it is possible to gain them back even with excessive heat damage. Im ready to get my curls n im literally going to try every method you did n im determined to find the right thing for me thank u sm!
OMG, I also got that book! I was in desperate need to help my curls come back to life and that book introduced me to a lot of things I did not know about my curls. It was a life saver!
This video motivates me so much every day believe it or not. I do everything that is suggested in the video all there's left is time for my curls to come back. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for making such a honest video about transitioning. I have a hair type similar to yours and I'm recovering from heat damage. While I"m beginning to see my curl pattern form I want my curls NOW lol. After watching this video I know to continue to be patient and wait for my hair to recover.
I looooved this video!!! thank you so much for your wisdom!! I have beens tyling my hair wrong for soo long. Up until now, very innocently and not realizing all the damage I was doing!! I am realistic and I know it won't be fast and easy but I look forward to moving ahead and getting my curls back!
I have heat damage but also i lost my hair almost fully due to being on pills for my mental illnesses and now it's been wavy and straight so i hope to gain it back with this thank you
Ahhh finally, I only have curls here and there when I wash it but for the most part they are all gone from heat damage. I remember my hair used to be like curly fries lol but how it's just mix match curls and straight hair.
This is a good video..however, for everyone saying they want their curls back. You don't necessarily have to do the curly girl method. I never did and I had been straightening my hair for 9 years. Now my hair is curly and it's only been 9 months and I'm still transitioning but my curls have come back and I love the way they have formed. I think I have another year or so to go to get my full curls back. I would advice to get your hair cut up to your shoulders, so your hair can start fresh. All you need to do is stop using heat and that also means blow drying as she said in the video. Let your hair dry naturally. Deep condition or use oils to keep moisture in your hair 3 times a week. And don't tie your hair up too tight. You will see a difference and buy products and styling products for curly hair doesn't necessarily have to be sulphate free etc. Also get a trim every 6 months!
@lono Noelle I think your settings are set differently because I can't reply to you directly. Have you heard of Aubrey Organics? Their Honey Suckle Rose conditioner is protein free! When looking for products that are suitable for protein sensitive hair, watch for ingredients like hydrolysed keratin, wheat hydrosylates, hydrolysed collagen, and/or amino acids (stay away from those!) I also found this link on NaturallyCurly.com that might also help in finding products for protein sensitive hair. www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/protein-sensitive/166273-best-products-protein-sensitive-hair.html
your curls are amazing and beautiful!! my hair is naturally curly but I've flat ironed my hair for so many years that my hair is A MESS what do you think about the Shae Moisture line every time i use it i get a serious build up on my scalp smh ..so I'm very curious as to what you think?? Thanks for a great video!
Thank you so much for this info. I was told by my hair dresser that my hair is protein sensitive. When I went to him, my hair was dry, brittle, and breaking off on the ends
here years later!! growing up with only white girls (I am white but my mother is an immigrant from portugual so i got her curly hair) in my area and just looking around and seeing everyone with perfectly straight hair and no frizz is what started my addiction to heat products. I never felt pretty with curly hair because I wasn't seeing any curly hair representation growing up. But the year is 2022, I am now 20 years old, and I am ready to start my hair journey. It has been almost 3 months since I have put any heat on my hair and it really isn't easy. Like you said, the awkward stage of letting your hair breathe and trying to regain your natural curl pattern is HARD. I recently did a big chop which took off most of my straight ends and I can already feel and see the difference. To anyone who is going through something similar, i genuinely wish you the best of luck and happy, healthy hair. You deserve recognition for the effort you put into your own self-improvement, And to Rocio, thank you for helping me learn to love my hair and to take back control on what I think about myself, and knowing that the opinion of others, although constantly reaffirmed in our minds, DOES NOT MATTER. Curly is and will always be beautiful, and so will you.
omgg, im dominican too. my mom would grow up telling me that my huge poofy hair would be ugly so i never wore it out and i got to straighten it. (id wash my hair and it'd be curly after detangling it but itd get really big afterwards) I realised my hair was curly after detangling so i decided i should put gel in my hair after washing it and it made my hair dry and brittle and id be washing it everyday. not long ago i ran out of gel and just washed my hair and my hair was curly and just so amazing. but.. since i straightened my hair so much the front parts of my hair were damaged and straight so idfk what to doooooooo
joce same, at the ends of my hair it would be S U P E R straight, but my mom claims that the blowouts aren’t damaging my hair, but she wouldn’t understand because her hair is way different from mine, considering the fact that our genetic makeup are different 😅👉🏾👈🏾
@@bigtiddiedrias9860 i like when my hair is straight but i can't keep it for that long cause when my hair gets wet itll get big and frizzy. my hair is dry right now and i'm about to go wash it so yeah
Hey Maria!! I'm so glad that you came across this video too! I'm sorry that your hair is damaged! It happens to most of us! But I promise you can get through this! Let me know if you have any other questions about your transition and I'll see if I can suggest another video that may help! Big hugs!
RisasRizos Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me :) So far some of your suggested methods are working - YaY! A long way to go but I’ve still to try your egg and avocado mix!! Thanks again and I look forward to more videos 🤗
I love this video! I'm in the middle of my curly hair transition so I'm at the point where I have curly, wavy, and straight hair. 😭 I was kind of giving up and assuming my hair would always be this way but after watching this video I have regain a new excitement for what's to come! I'm about 3 months in so I definitely have a long way to go!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video, Rocio! I've been really frustrated this past month because the process is so, so slow and I was just about to give up, mostly because it's so hard to find the right products where I live, but after watching this video I'm motivated again to just keep going! Patience is key. I just want my curls back no matter what, even if I have to wait a few more months for them to show up. Looking back at pictures I can see that there IS progress, I just didn't see it at the time. Thanks again for all the info and encouraging words, you're awesome! :)
eugenia estrada LOLLLLLL pineapple is just putting all your hair at the top of your head to protect your curls, basically a very loose ponytail. this comment made me laugh so hard 💀💀💀
i’m going to try this bc since i was little i have been straightening my hair bc curly hair is obviously harder to manage but recently i’ve wanted to get highlights and i don’t want to loose all my hair bc i do have heat damage so i’m going to try this and i’m extremely happy that it’s quarentine and now no one will see me during this stage when i look like 💩 I’ll keep you all updated!
I am so glad I found this this video. I am beginning the process of getting my natural curls back and I love the video. I know it will a process and never expected a miracle. But as I am new to your channel I am not aware of your KCKT & SMCES is, if you can explain or elaborate, I would very much appreciate it.
Stephanie Lucy Marie Not a problem at all. I guess sometimes I forget that I get new subscribers that haven't seen my old videos! KCKT and SMCES refer to my favorite product combo! It's the Kinky Curly Knot Today and the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I LOVE them together!
As a baby upto when I was 9 I had healthy hair. My mother after I turned nine straightened my hair weekly or biweekly now I'm kind of bald when it comes to my edges. I have started this since 2 days ago I can finally do this now that I am fourteen and have a bit more control over my hair. You have beautiful hair dont do what my mom did to me to yourself or others.
aphogee 2 step protein plan gave me back my curls and I started using milder shampoos or conditioning shampoos and leave in conditioners with some type of oil/shea butter in it. Now I'm really carefull and I don't flat iron my hair anymore.
My sister and I are making a pact to stop putting heat on out hair. I just sent her your video. I know this gave me a lot of great tips im going to try. Definitely going subscribe and watch more videos ❤️
so I let down my curly hair like 95% of my life. I straightened my hair once in 6 months and suddenly my hair turned straight at the core and wavy on my roots. I don't understand I had really curly big hair so?? will it come back like in a week? The first day my hair was basically straight the second day was little bit more waves and today (the third day) I have more waves
@@user-fr5tt3fn2l It took me about 2-3 months to get my complete curl pattern back. In retrospect, the AsIAm Curl Enhancer among other hair-friendly items like argon oil is pretty useful for healthy curls. To this day I don’t understand why that happened to me, but I’m glad it was temporary. If this occurred to you, I’d suggest using healthy hair products and not use any form of heat on it until your hair completely recovers!
@@AMoore-qx6vv I’ve only straightened my hair 3 times altogether ever and the 1st and 2nd time, it was perfectly fine however I straightened my hair last October and I used heat protection. But when I came out the bath and my hair was wavy. I went from 3a/3b to 2a and some parts were still fully straight. I’ve chopped some of the straight parts off and my hair is a little bit more curlier now but there are still some straight parts at the front. I hope it comes back soon 😭😭 thanks for the advise. I don’t know what happened to my hair either. I always towel dry my hair and never use any heat so I don’t really understand how I got heat damage after one use 😩 never straightening my hair ever again tbh 😂😭
@@ameliahayes472 that’s a good start, I would also check the ingredients in the heat protective spray you may have used before applying heat, I feel like that was the cause for what happened to my hair.
Thank you sooooooo much for this video!!!!! You are the first person that i have found who hair was actually straight with "somewhat" curly roots. Thank you Thank you Thank you! I'm in my beginning stage and its so annoying. this gave me hope!
Guuurl i remember 4 years ago when i watched your video i was liké WTF..how will my curls go bAck to its natural state..i Can tell you..that PATIENCE IS KEY!!!! After I dId the Big chop i was so freaky stressed out but thanks you a lot for THIS vidéo i LOVE YOUR TIPS A LOTSSS♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you so much for letting me know that!! This makes me so happy to hear!! I'm glad you stuck through it girl because patience is so important for transitioning!!! Happy your curls are coming back!!!
My hair is really long almost to my waist but the curl pattern is terrible . I need helppp Edit: it's a 3b curl pattern, but I just use water to detangle and to a ponytail. It's just school is a rush everyday
mom used to relax my hair a lot because back in the days(early 2000's) i guess natural hair wasn't the norm. so my hair has been relaxed so much my hair is straight. now that i'm 15 and have been doing my hair on my own for about 2ish years and it hasn't been relaxed for about a year now. my new growth(roots) are suuuper curly but the rest of my hair isn't and for a long time ive been stuck between chopping it all off or letting the curls grow and then cut off the rest. thanks for this video!!!!
I used to have curly bouncy curls when I was younger and now half of my hair underneath still has curls then my hair on top is really wavy. And I miss my curly hair.
My bangs have lost so much curl pattern, it's almost growing straight. Any suggestions? Should I just apply the method you used to get back your curls?
This is helpful ❤️I did a big chop and used heat multiple time after and now my hair is wavy I'm going to try this 😊👍😍hopefully my hair will get better
some tricks that I use , when I really just really just want my curls bad but I can’t because it’s literally straight damaged and full of breakage is, to ether braid my hair or twist it over night and when I wake up I have some mini curls to work with.. but that’s basically it:^(
I had thick, curly frizzy hair. All I had to do was wash it and bang - Curls! Ringlets if you will.... because I’m lazy and got sick of washing my hair every morning I started to braid my hair every night so I still had somewhat of a curl every night. Over time my hair lost its body and now my hair is awkward, it’s pretty straight and I don’t have a lot of volume. It’s gotten to a point that when I tell people how curly my hair was or show them photos they are shocked!! Absolutely devo I lost my curls :((( thank you for the awesome video x
hey love im new to the whole cold turkey no heat no blow drying and no flat iron, but i have no idea to what to do, ive been on here for a while every week trying to find away to get my curls back and what products to use. please help me, i have done the mayo, but i feel like that didnt work, ive done banana and olive oil not sure if its working.....
+Emii DaCruz Hey! Definitely start with the protein treatments. It takes time to get your curls back in shape but I applaud you for making the effort to go cold turkey because it is so hard! Keep it up!
I have been using heat on my hair everyday for two years and in the past 4-5 months I’ve dyed my hair about 7 times... I know really bad. When my hair is dry it will have some and ringlets around my forehead and nape of my neck, but when it’s wet you can really see the curl pattern. I’m now just starting my hair journey and if I had to guess my hair is in the 2b or maybe even more curly so I can’t wait too see! Iv put away my heat stuff and I’m ready for the health of my hair to improve
While I'm transitioning, can I straighten my hair without heat ? Because I have school and I really can't style my hair "curly". Would it damage if I do it without any heat at all ?
Personally I wouldn't recommend it. As your trying to get your curls back, you really need to let your curls try to get back to its normal state. By straightening whether without heat your not helping your hair, tie your hair up
such a very honest video :) you are so pretty . hoping to get my curls back. Has been straightening my hair for 8 years now and it really looks weird when the root grows curly and the rest to the tips are straight then I must straighten my hair every 5-6 months which made my hair break and so damaged. thanks for this vid :)
Jamaican Black Castor Oil is key! It's the only product I use. Also with some oil serum on my ends. I also re-wet my hair with a small amount of the JBCO. I would say it will take 1-2 years for your hair to get back to a curl pattern, if you go by what she says. I've been straitening my hair everyday since 6th grade and stopped cold turkey 10th grade. By 11th grade I saw improvement with each deep conditioning. By 12th grade my hair was at it's healthiest.
I got a short haircut a few months ago. My hair was under boob level and now its at shoulder level. When my hair was longer it would have these really pretty ringlet curls at the end but it was filled with split ends so I decided to chop off a whopping 7 inches and now my hair looks like its been brushed through several times. The hair won't form into curls any more just sad frizzy little waves. I have been doing the same thing to my hair when it was long and even changed my routine a few times but nothing seems to work! Any ideas? I'm lost here ):
did straight perm twice along with bangs... after 4 months, my hair is dry with split ends. i love having straight hair but it’s such a hassle maintaining straight hair every 6 months and paying sooooo much. gonna try and get my natural curls back 😩🤞
Cesia S. that all depends on how damaged your hair is. if it's severely damaged, I would say maybe once every two months. if it's not as bad, perhaps 3 to 4. of you could do a big chop and get rid of all of the bad pieces at once!
Remember, castor oil at it's purest is supposed to be a pale yellow color....NOT black. Please do your research. Use the yellow. Thank you for this video, much needed because I too experienced heat damage and I am on the journey to also get my curls back. Thank you for the great tips!
Only the back of my hair is growing 🙁 the front is growing a lot slower... what advise could you give me doll ? I haven’t used heat in my hair for 6 months. I stopped using a blow dryer and straightener in my hair in August because I realised the front of my hair stopped growing and now I have a bald spot at the side of my head 😐 maybe it’s low mineral and vitamin deficiency? Or thyroid issues ? I really don’t know.
I went natural for a year and it was the best hair decision I've ever made but then I decided to get highlights and it fried my hair...now I have to start all over again because I have to cut off the damage lol It's def worth it tho.
U could still use oil on ur before every wash.... Iv found castor oil and olive works really good if u trying to get ur curls back. Oh and Scrunch ur hairs when it's wet, with a little oil....and scrunch .(with a t shirt or hands) do not use towel. Hope this helps. :)
I’m 16 and I’ve been straightening my hair since I was 7 (my mom played a big part in this bc she didn’t like my curly hair) so I ended up hating it and straightening it everydayyyyyy agh I regret it so much. My hair is still curly, just the front parts are a lil….yk😬It’s a little hard to lay off the heat but I’m taking small steps by only straightening my hair once in around a 3 week span but I’ll use a good heat protectant, hoping to lay off the heat completely. I really hope that by the time I’m 18 my curls are back completely and I see some growth🙏🏽
What I have is actually chemical damage. I had a treatment done and it completely BURNT my hair. I've been following your tips for a year now and although it has dramatically improved (THANK YOU, I AM A FAN) I still feel that one, my curls have not recovered entirely and two, I now loose moisture a lot faster than I used to. Have you every made a video on how to recover from treatments-gone-bad or chemical damage? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
The thing is, its like that even if i have nothing in it, I think its part of my curl pattern. I let it dry while its up and scrunch it to get a little more curl and volume up there. Im experimenting with it quite a bit right now to see what works best
My mother used to straighten my hair a lot and we even relaxed it as a kid so now it’s very heat damaged but I’ve been using different shampoos and conditioners and using apple cider to try and get my curls back and instead of straight it’s coming back to wavy so hopefully I’m getting somewhere but I will try these methods after I cut my hair!
Thank you SO SO much for this video! I really needed this. So far I am doing everything right. As far as the heat; I don't flat iron, nor wand my hair. During my "awkward hair phase" What I did (and actually still do) is, roller wrap my hair, and sit under the dryer for straight hair look. My curl pattern sort of came back after that. But I still have a lot work to do. I have do the finger coiling, satin sleeping, once a week/month treatments, and vitamins. other than that you and I for the most part have the same regime. I have some questions; (1) Do you use a hair diffuser? (2) What deep conditioners do you use? (3) How long does it take to finer coil? (4) Is there any other advice you can give me???
My hair used to be really damaged in middle school and some of high school (curly at the top, sort of wavy in the middle, and straight at the ends). I went on this hair journey around my freshman or sophomore year of high school and my hair got a lot healthier and was in much better shape. And then, years later, I decided to straighten my hair for my birthday this yr and f***ed it up all over again. It's not as bad as it was before but it's still frustrating and almost makes me want to cry cuz all of my hard work went down the drain in an instant😔😔😔
I understand the frustration. All of that work!! That's okay though, we can get through this! try a protein treatment once a month and steer clear of straightening for a little bit!
I came here through curly penny and after seeing this video I'm super motivated to start getting my lovely curls back! I already changed my hair care routine, like no heat, no silicones, natural oils etc. Definitely will try out some of your routines and ideas! Thank you so much :) Btw: In the USA you can return used products and receive the money back?? Where I live (Germany) that is not possible at all. Pretty nice returning policy you guys have there haha :D But then again, they would most likely throw that product away (please don't tell me they are re-selling that to another customer!), so in terms of waste it's not really a smart idea :b xx
***** Love Curly Penny! I am so glad to read that you are motivated to get your curls back! And yes, there are just a handful of stores that will allow you a full refund. Some stores offer exchange only while others have final sales with no return at all. If I"m not mistaken I believe they send it back to the manufacturer. Hmmm.... you know what, I'll ask next time! haha
RisasRizos if the products are unopened and sealed and not tampered with they put it back on the shelf and resell it BUT if the product is unopened, sealed and/or tampered with they send it back to the manufacturer. No customer will buy an item that is opened, unsealed and tampered with! Also they only give you a certain amount of days(some stores with and some stores even without a receipt) to return it..after that date you can not return it.

Thank you.
sephen flemming how long did it take you to recover your curls?
GoShiShi I haven't been consistent with my recovery so it's still taking awhile. I have noticed my hair growing it's curls back, slowly though. I'm probably a little more than half way natural curls now. I'm sure if I was more vigilant about what I use and the treatments I did it would be more.
GoShiShi I've been trying to recover mine for the past 13 months and i barely have half a head of curls. I HATE IT
Mariaalej Yea, I have been trying for awhile too, over a year, and I do wish it was growing faster. I don't have a lot of money so I use the cheaper natural products. I should probably trim it more often. I've heard that helps it grow. I just want my curly hair back.
Mariaalej yea i cut all my hair off and thank God it goes with my face. Best decision and it's been 2 weeks and already grew a lot
8 months transitioning! Going in for my 3rd trim in a couple weeks! Can't wait to finally get my Domican curls back. Also one month heat free!
Eleany DeJesus Update?
8 months transitioning but one month heat free??
@@StephanieRZ right
so we all dominican here?💀
Omg this video saved my life. I hated my curls for the longest time and when I finally wanted curls my hair was straight. This video got my curls back. Thank you so much.
My hair doesn't curl at the root. I don't think it ever has. It grows out straight then begins to curl about an inch down. Is that normal?
yes
yes
yes
River Swan mine starts curling/waving about halfway down so yeah hopefully it's normal😂
same here, at the roots my hair is straight then it's wavy and spirally curly at the ends 😂
I'm so happy this video exists. I desperately want my curls back. I already stopped using heat but the hair care products definitely need to change.
i'm in every awkward stage you mentioned all together :/ ..
never dying my hair again !
my hair is curly at the roots and god damn straight at THE ENDS HELP
Kakashi Sensei me too😭
My hairs like straight at roots and the ends are curly
omggg same😭
Cut it x

Good luck!
HAK2014 Fantastic tips!!!! Thanks so much for sharing!
HAK2014 thanks for this!
I’m 11 and I’m done straightening my hair my curls are going away
Sabie Cheema Same but for me there’s only one section of my hair that’s straight
Much success to you and your channel :)
tootrendy19 I really appreciate that, thank you! I hope to continue to produce content that is unique and informative! Thank you so much for watching!
Bonnie Venti I'm in the same situation as you😩
Bonnie Venti my hair used to be curly and frizzy too but since I straighten a lot now the roots are straight and the ends are curly and i just want my natural curly hair back
Bonnie Vent if your hair is straight at the ends only it could be that they're heat damaged. Unfortunately the only way to restore your curls it would be to cut off the damaged ends and start over. I know it sucks to lose length but your hair will be so healthy
same here
Better to have short and beautiful curls than long and ugly hair lol
I have been straightening my hair with strictly only wet 2 straight straighteners for 10 years... in 2015 December i decided not to straighten my hair for a year to get my curls back i ended up just falling back in 2016 i used to have the best curls n i love this video because it gave me assurance that it is possible to gain them back even with excessive heat damage. Im ready to get my curls n im literally going to try every method you did n im determined to find the right thing for me thank u sm!
I had BEAUTIFUL natural curls, but... i dyed my hair and used to much heat😭😭😭☹️
OMG, I also got that book! I was in desperate need to help my curls come back to life and that book introduced me to a lot of things I did not know about my curls. It was a life saver!
Great advice. I’m right in the beginning of my journey and I’m
so glad I came across your channel.
I miss my curls so much. I'm gonna try your advice and hopefully in time , my curls will come back! Thank you so much, this gives me hope ! 💓
This video motivates me so much every day believe it or not. I do everything that is suggested in the video all there's left is time for my curls to come back. Thank you so much!!!
Genesis Guzman That's so exciting to read! I am glad that it's motivating you! You can do it! Just be patient and give your curls lots of love.
Delia Rivera Thanks so much! You're on the right track though! =D
When looking for products that are suitable for protein sensitive hair, watch for ingredients like hydrolysed keratin, wheat hydrosylates, hydrolysed collagen, and/or amino acids (stay away from those!)
I also found this link on NaturallyCurly.com that might also help in finding products for protein sensitive hair. www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/protein-sensitive/166273-best-products-protein-sensitive-hair.html
Disculpa quisiera saver si me puedes ayudar a recuperar Los risos en El Cabello DE MI Nina :(
your curls are amazing and beautiful!! my hair is naturally curly but I've flat ironed my hair for so many years that my hair is A MESS what do you think about the Shae Moisture line every time i use it i get a serious build up on my scalp smh ..so I'm very curious as to what you think?? Thanks for a great video!
Lovely Lynn Gambino super late reply you should try Cantu products..
Thank you so much for this info. I was told by my hair dresser that my hair is protein sensitive. When I went to him, my hair was dry, brittle, and breaking off on the ends
Thank you! After straightening for 4 years, I almost gave up on getting my curls back. I am excited and can't wait to get started!
Ugh my hair only curls from the root and then has a frizzy wave at the ends 🙃 I’ve damaged my hair so horribly and don’t know how to even repair it
here years later!! growing up with only white girls (I am white but my mother is an immigrant from portugual so i got her curly hair) in my area and just looking around and seeing everyone with perfectly straight hair and no frizz is what started my addiction to heat products.
Thank you lord my mom messed my hair up with these Dominican blowouts
Yes those Blow outs look so pretty but thy will tare your hair up bad
omgg, im dominican too. my mom would grow up telling me that my huge poofy hair would be ugly so i never wore it out and i got to straighten it.
@@bigtiddiedrias9860 i like when my hair is straight but i can't keep it for that long cause when my hair gets wet itll get big and frizzy. my hair is dry right now and i'm about to go wash it so yeah
to everyone reading this Jesus loves you sm that He died for you! i pray you surrender to Him! have a blessed day! you’re so loved!!
Just came across this video and so glad I did! My curly hair is so badly damaged 😭
I’m going to try your methods!! Thanks!!
Hey Maria!! I'm so glad that you came across this video too! I'm sorry that your hair is damaged! It happens to most of us! But I promise you can get through this! Let me know if you have any other questions about your transition and I'll see if I can suggest another video that may help! Big hugs!
RisasRizos Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me :)
So far some of your suggested methods are working - YaY!
Eliwi Honestly, keep track of old photos definitely helped keep me motivated to keep going!
At 7:10 WHAT DID YOU MEAN BY THROW YOUR HAIR IN A PINEAPPLE?😭
eugenia estrada LOLLLLLL pineapple is just putting all your hair at the top of your head to protect your curls, basically a very loose ponytail. this comment made me laugh so hard 💀💀💀
eugenia estrada omg im dead😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭
Meme Kween thank youuu😭😂
eugenia estrada Anytime girl! 😁
LMFAOOOO
i’m going to try this bc since i was little i have been straightening my hair bc curly hair is obviously harder to manage but recently i’ve wanted to get highlights and i don’t want to loose all my hair bc i do have heat damage so i’m going to try this and i’m extremely happy that it’s quarentine and now no one will see me during this stage when i look like 💩 I’ll keep you all updated!
I feel like I have been trying for many years to get my hair back but it keeps on staying this weird pattern
aphogee 2 step protein plan gave me back my curls and I started using milder shampoos or conditioning shampoos and leave in conditioners with some type of oil/shea butter in it. Now I'm really carefull and I don't flat iron my hair anymore.
I had some pretty curly hair. But I straightened my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY for at least 3 months. And now it’s hardly even wavy
Same, except I straightened mine for about 2/3 years...
Annalicia Esquerra i straightened mine everyday for the 3 years of middle school
Same but I straightedges it for 6 months
My sister and I are making a pact to stop putting heat on out hair. I just sent her your video. I know this gave me a lot of great tips im going to try. Definitely going subscribe and watch more videos ❤️
so I let down my curly hair like 95% of my life. I straightened my hair once in 6 months and suddenly my hair turned straight at the core and wavy on my roots. I don't understand I had really curly big hair so?? will it come back like in a week? The first day my hair was basically straight the second day was little bit more waves and today (the third day) I have more waves
how long did it take for your curls to come back. I have the same issue ;(
@@user-fr5tt3fn2l It took me about 2-3 months to get my complete curl pattern back.
I always towel dry my hair and never use any heat so I don’t really understand how I got heat damage after one use 😩 never straightening my hair ever again tbh 😂😭
bruh this same thing happened to me, i’m bout to start with some rice water treatments and olaplex and hope that helps me out some
@@ameliahayes472 that’s a good start, I would also check the ingredients in the heat protective spray you may have used before applying heat, I feel like that was the cause for what happened to my hair.
Thank you sooooooo much for this video!!!!!
You are the first person that i have found who hair was actually straight with "somewhat" curly roots. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
I'm in my beginning stage and its so annoying. this gave me hope!
Did u have to gradually cut the damaged hair off?
+Jo Jo Dancer I should have mentioned that in the video. I forgot! But yes! I got gradual trims! I wasn't brave enough to do a big chop!
Jo Jo Dancer I did that ... and yea it helps
RisasRizos i'm not allowed to cut my hair but its severely heat damaged..
Best curly hair video I’ve seen so far😍
This made me feel good😊Thank you for sharing your journey! I'm at the beginning of mine
AshleYYYMusic did it ever work?
I need helppp
Edit: it's a 3b curl pattern, but I just use water to detangle and to a ponytail.
And I miss my curly hair.
thanks again my curly hair guru! i was so busy that i dropped off the radar for awhile but i am back now and i brought friends! :)
Karen Atoine aww you're so sweet lol So excited you brought friends! (hi Karen's friends!) Thanks for watching!
My bangs have lost so much curl pattern, it's almost growing straight. Any suggestions? Should I just apply the method you used to get back your curls?
omg sameee. I got a haircut on most of my hair but not my sidebangs, and they look so awkward!
This is helpful ❤️I did a big chop and used heat multiple time after and now my hair is wavy I'm going to try this 😊👍😍hopefully my hair will get better
hello I from the future, plus I aint waiting 14 months
for my hair to be curly
some tricks that I use , when I really just really just want my curls bad but I can’t because it’s literally straight damaged and full of breakage is, to ether braid my hair or twist it over night and when I wake up I have some mini curls to work with.. but that’s basically it:^(
So helpful, biotin is amazing, I've stopped taking it but I think I'll start again this week. :) It's a lot cheaper than hairfinity.
Jodi-Kay Edwards Definitely! cheaper than a lot of hair supplements. OOOO and sometimes Walgreens has coupons! I LOVEEEE coupons lol
Oh my gosh I finally found a video that actually explained everything. Thank you so much!!!💙
Is Jamaican black castor oil good for low porosity hair?
Jay Slays yes it is
I had thick, curly frizzy hair. Absolutely devo I lost my curls
:((( thank you for the awesome video x
hey love im new to the whole cold turkey no heat no blow drying and no flat iron, but i have no idea to what to do, ive been on here for a while every week trying to find away to get my curls back and what products to use. please help me, i have done the mayo, but i feel like that didnt work, ive done banana and olive oil not sure if its working.....
Valerie Nicole you sure can! I have a video coming up veryyyyyyyy soon!
Personally I wouldn't recommend it. As your trying to get your curls back, you really need to let your curls try to get back to its normal state. By straightening whether without heat your not helping your hair, tie your hair up
such a very honest video :) you are so pretty . hoping to get my curls back. Has been straightening my hair for 8 years now and it really looks weird when the root grows curly and the rest to the tips are straight then I must straighten my hair every 5-6 months which made my hair break and so damaged. thanks for this vid :)
my bottom layer of my hair is straight but the rest is curly. Idk what to do.
Tiana Moore same sis 😩
Tiana Moore have you tried Aphogee
My hair was exactly like yours I'm so lucky to have found your video I will definitely take your advice
PLZ CAN ANYONE HELP ME !I straightened my hair last october and ever sine then I've lost almost all of them. Is my only choice cutting all of them ?

I also rarely use hot tools. The only hope I have is to do heatless hairstyles and wait for it to grow out so I can go back to my old routine.
I'm just leaving a comment here because I have the exact same problem.. :/
+Ashley Marie I use the Pantene Anti-dandruff shampoo and I'm getting my curls back!Try it.
The more you say the more I cry ahhh! 14 is so long wish me luck guys!!!
What about defusing?
maykel bermudez just use cold air (:
That’s what killed my hair 😭
did straight perm twice along with bangs... after 4 months, my hair is dry with split ends. i love having straight hair but it’s such a hassle maintaining straight hair every 6 months and paying sooooo much. gonna try and get my natural curls back 😩🤞
How often did you trim your hair when you where transitioning?
Cesia S. that all depends on how damaged your hair is. if it's severely damaged, I would say maybe once every two months. if it's not as bad, perhaps 3 to 4. of you could do a big chop and get rid of all of the bad pieces at once!
I went natural for a year and it was the best hair decision I've ever made but then I decided to get highlights and it fried my hair...now I have to start all over again because I have to cut off the damage lol It's def worth it tho.
my hair is half wavy and half curly 😑
This video is amazing! I'm up for the journey!! Thanks so much!!!!!
What about protein sensitive hair? Any advice ?
I really hope that by the time I’m 18 my curls are back completely and I see some growth🙏🏽
how is it going now.
LOL here five years later my mom literally never had any idea about how to do my hair but I’m sitting here doing it and I am seeing a difference
I have the opposite situation going on, my hair is curlier at the tips and straighter/flater at the roots. This video was super helpful!! Thanks! :)
***** Interesting. this MIGHT mean that what you're putting in your hair is weighing it down.
The thing is, its like that even if i have nothing in it, I think its part of my curl pattern. I let it dry while its up and scrunch it to get a little more curl and volume up there. Im experimenting with it quite a bit right now to see what works best
You kept it real. I respect that. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for this video..You encouraged me to get my curls back..Love u:)
Tiya Biswas That's so exciting to read! I am glad!
(4) Is there any other advice you can give me???
and I do "satin sleep" lol, just not with a pillow, I wrap my hair with a satin scarf.
@@RisasRizos Thank you❤️ I'll definitely have to try the protein treatments and I won't be straightening my hair again for a long time!!
I came here through curly penny and after seeing this video I'm super motivated to start getting my lovely curls back! I already changed my hair care routine, like no heat, no silicones, natural oils etc. Definitely will try out some of your routines and ideas! Thank you so much :)
Btw: In the USA you can return used products and receive the money back?? Where I live (Germany) that is not possible at all. Pretty nice returning policy you guys have there haha :D But then again, they would most likely throw that product away (please don't tell me they are re-selling that to another customer!), so in terms of waste it's not really a smart idea :b
xx
I'm starting to get my curls back I agree cutting out heat is key
