When I saw you open that last revolver up, I thought you scored a Webley. I’ve always loved getting my hands on functional cheap old guns. Then taking them polishing them like jewelry and blueing or blacking them. I would have that revolver engraved and maybe do some gold inlaying on it with a combination of blueing and blacking. Basically taking something that is worthless and making it something to lust after.
My first (non-cracked stock) FR-8 was easy C&R good. Second one was ratty like yours - less rust but the stock was shattered but for $100 or whatever just order replacement bits. Ordered a few more guns this last week since they have some mosins listed and and French rifles. Anyway - those were parts gun prices and prn can use some of the parts.
@ ok Figure out what you want to buy from their ad Make up an invoice for yourself on word. Buyer, seller, product and be specific. Price plus hand pick fee if applicable and for long rifles 45 for shipping. Go to post office and make a money order for that amount. Then send it return receipt and keep EVERYTHING so you have a paper trail. If you have your own C&R or 01 FFL send that in the same envelope. And then the wait is at minimum 4-6 weeks but 3-6 months is not uncommon. I am still missing a k-31 action that I ordered last year. Has it stopped me from recently ordering and receiving a Berthier? Nope. Hopefully some day it shows up. But if you can’t afford to gamble a bit with that money might want to stick with Century, Centerfire System etc..
Hi from Czechia (little country in eastern europe). one GOOD thing that our goverment did, is that weapons in such condition (like the first FR-8 or worse) are illegal to sell as a regular firearm by a company to you, and would have to be sold ONLY to someone with for example a gunsmith licence or a museum.
Honestly I collect and work on projects like those too. I have been bitten and I have made out good as well. as far as the expense of these items that goes art and parcel with any hobby. Some people go Disney because that's their thing. They pay good money and sometimes it rains everyday and then sometimes it is perfect. That's the way it goes.
Honestly, I'm happy overall. Its what I wanted...projects. My only issues is the wrong parts. Already finished the first FR8 and it came out great. Thanks for the comment.
Man, first bolt looks like a battlefield dug relic. Been on the fence about gambling with Hunter’s Lodge, watching unboxing videos on YT one looks promising then the next not so much. Had a lot of luck over the years with Classic, RTI, OWS, CenterFire, even IMA - some ugly but still safe and functional. Also bought “gunsmith specials” that didn’t work out, took a loss reselling. Looks like a mixed bag here, a couple fun projects at least.
That it is. I bought the ticket so its only my fault. Surprisingly the bore on the FR8s are in great shape so I'll do something fun with the really rough one.
To be honest, IMO both those FR8s are salvageable, assuming the bores are in decent shape. Just takes some PB blaster and elbow grease. As for the screws, you may need a hand impact, or a screw knocker on an air hammer they'll come loose. Those ishapore 410 enfields brought in by springfield sporters/century arms have far heavier rust and I brought one back.
Turns out, the bores are in good shape and I agree. I think I was just a little upset initially but Im happy and these two will be fun. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Looking back through the ads and I’m not seeing K-frames or parts kits. Do you literally call them periodically and say, “Whaddaya got?” The Enfield would be a “jump on it” for me but, again, can’t seem to find it on their ads. Website is very crude.
@@MidwesternFC Is this stuff they just find in the back of their barn/warehouse? I find it hard to believe these items are freshly bought by them. It's more like they just go into the storage building and move old things around and see what grandpa bought in the 1970's for the catalog or earlier.
Good questions. I think they might be low on FR-8s as they dont list them anymore. Best way is to call and see what they have. Shipping for these two HEAVY boxes was $53.00.
The original Hunters Lodge was a great outfit to do business with. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia they had real quality surplus weapons. That was of course in the1950's and early 60's. Evidently, they current one adopted the original name and are using it or their sales now. Sad
Of all the interesting things you got, the one that gets my interest is the Webley/Enfield revolver. Before the complete ban on handguns in Britain, there were a ton of these around and I learned target pistol competition with one of them. When the ban came, they all got handed in to the police and destroyed. A very sad time for someone who also loves revolvers.
Bought a thousand rounds in a ammo box of 9mm years ago... could not believe what was sent. They actually had to shovel it into the ammo box. Dirt, rocks and ammo. Didn't look like the picture. Pretty sure they out of business now..Had my laugh. Sent it back. No complaints

The nice one has a great bore also so...overall Im very happy with everything (except the revolver kits). Wow, looking forward to seeing that p14 and Vaguero. Keep up the good work on your end and thanks for the comment. The revolver parts don't look too different from the rossi you picked up recently, but no markings which seems weird. Who knows. The one and only time I ordered from Hunter's Lodge it took months to ship and they arbitrarily sent the guns to a random FFL dealer 30 miles away from me instead of to my Curio & Relic license that I used as the shipping address. Complete idiots.

Howdy Midwestern looks like you can make one FR-8 out of both of those swapping all the parts around.. and the stock on the one looks pretty good the stock on the other one is bunk. it's just a matter of swapping all those parts and getting all those rusted screws and bolts out of that one. The pistols the Smith & Wesson model 10s I'm not sure. I've seen like you said the wolf Hunter he could turn one of those into a beautiful piece and I think you probably could too. You know HL might of gone through something there that really delaed the prossing and shiping. I am still waiting on my $49.00 43 Spanish Mauser to show up it's been about a month I guess I'm not really in a hurry. I'm going to do a Trilogy video on the other the three m43s that I've got from Hunters Lodge and I really can't wait to get it and do that video. In all the prices there are for the most part OK. No way they send you that fr8 ?! It's worse than some of the g98 found and dugged near my area in the battlefield 80 years after... That is completly unsable. But there is some good, that webley is so cool, and for the money, fantastic deal !
My brother, good to hear from you! The one is a mess BUT the bore is fantastic. So for the price, I'm happy after thinking about it and will have some fun with that one. The revolver cleaned up well already. Hope things are well on your end and all the best to you with your studies!

I don't remember if you mentioned how much you paid for these. I hope it wasn't a lot. I enjoy restoring old firearms, but they must bring something to the table. I have purchased from gun shows and a few from RTI. RTI is very iffy. I thought about hunter's Lodge, but hearing that wait time can be months, I have written that company off. Good luck in your endeavor.
$88 each. The first one cleaned up really well and the second 'rough one' has a great bore so will make it into a fun project. I have never purchased from RTI but I imagine its the same kind of thing. Good luck to you.
That thing should have been buried next to the soldier that used to own it. It looks like it was sitting in the battlefield for weeks even months maybe years. Wow.
The revolver parts kits suck, (definitely should get an exchange or your money back on those since they aren't even S&W parts, probably Spanish by Orbea Y Cia), as well as the one HUGELY pitted F-R8, (looks like it sat leaning against a tree in the Congo for 30 years), but you really made out on the Enfield and the Smiths, looks like you can really make something good out of those. Hunter's Lodge is ALWAYS a crap shoot. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a couple of the Berthier Carbines in the new "catalog" as well as one of the F-R7's they list as being in "great shape" with "nice bores." Been a while since I rolled the dice, but I'm due for some good luck!
I agree. I'm really happy overall, minus the wrong parts. The pitted FR8 has an immaculate bore so I'll have fun with that one. May the surplus gods be on your side with your next order!
Because people like me keep buying. Honestly, my only issue is the wrong revolver parts kits. The bore on the FR8's are great. I'll still give them a shot at fixing it.
Either I missed what you paid or you didn't say...but Either way, You got ripped...They know what they are sending out...or they're picking and packing in the dark...You have your work cut out for you brother!
@MidwesternFC Nope, not in 2024. Its too easy to get a user friendly website. If not for the business, do it for the potential customers. I couldn't figure them out back in the 80s with their Shotgun News ads, either. They wanted you to snail mail them a check and guesstimate shipping. That's no way to run a business.
I believe I'll avoid Hunter's Lodge offerings. It's absolutely ridiculous they would send out corroded scrap metal like those "rifles". Outright fraud to suggest there's anything of value there.
Great video, Thanks for the shout-out, brother. The guy you got a hold of was probably George, and the lady was probably Gail.... As you know from my videos, I have a double action only Enfield revolver(38S&W,or as the Brits call itt .38/200) and three S&W Model 10's.. I, too, had an issue with an S&W Model 10 parts kit. The first two were ok,the last one was just like yours. So I used leftover parts from the other two. But I'm still needing a correct firing pin for my most recent Model 10.. I heard from RustySurplus that HL has been really busy, so I emailed James and said I will contact him in November to place an order for some parts and see if he has anything that would trip my trigger... .Again, great ..
I think you are exactly right! If you ever find out what those parts go to be sure and share. I have no doubt they are very busy. Even with the issues I'm still happy with these and looking forward to making some fun M10's. Thanks for the comment!
That first rifle isn't even gunsmith special quality. It's beyond pitted and even if you cleaned it up and restored it. Likely you wouldn't be able to fire it... my god man. You would be better off going to an ATM and withdrawing the money you spent and lighting it on fire.
I don't have a youtube channel but I will give my advice on yours. Don't buy from them. You will most likely get a box of turds. They violate postal regulations with their slow shipping. Send out junk.
I can’t watch your videos. You know this was Hunters Lodge and you sound so distraught over what you received. You can state the problems with the rifles without the anguish.

I did not. I have never done a 'select grade' and still had pretty good luck. Do you think the exta $ cash is worth it?
Spanish FR8....thats an old rifle ive always wanted
Its a very cool Mauser variant and glad to have them.
Thanks for showing ! RUSTY.
Hi there Rusty! I'm already working on the one fr8 and it will be nice. I think I can even get something out of the other one after some rust removal. I'm looking forward to the S&W projects for sure. Overall, Im happy with everything except the revolver parts kits. Thanks for the comment and hope things are well out your way. I look forward to that Trilogy!
@@MidwesternFC THANKS
No way they send you that fr8 ?! It's worse than some of the g98 found and dugged near my area in the battlefield 80 years after... That is completly unsable.
But there is some good, that webley is so cool, and for the money, fantastic deal !
My brother, good to hear from you! The one is a mess BUT the bore is fantastic. So for the price, I'm happy after thinking about it and will have some fun with that one. The revolver cleaned up well already. Hope things are well on your end and all the best to you with your studies!
@@MidwesternFC I myself am working on a webley mkIV, so it's nice to see other exemples of this type of revolver.
I've been really busy lately but that's how it is haha.
And you ? You're doing fine ?
@@thefrenchgunsmith6488 Same my friend. Staying very busy but its a good thing. Enjoying some of my favorite motorcycle time for Autumn over here. I look forward to seeing your MkIV!
Not true
I don't know what ya spent on ur FR-8's but they are excellent large ring Mausers .. I bought one in excellent shape Bore n Stock with the Bayo n charging clips n some old 7.62 Nato ammo for $ 725. total with all the b.s. fees .. Be well MB ..
They sure are! Thats why I wanted to get one. They were 88 dollars. Honestly I'm very happy with those and the bores are great.
@@MidwesternFC , Great excellent barrels on them too MB ..
@@MegaBait1616 PS: I enjoy your videos very much. All the best.
@@MidwesternFC , Thanks my friend I have a ton of content just have to edit it cause it won't load . I just do it for fun n try to keep it real . I had a saltwater channel with 34K subs I took down cause of tree huggers n trolls found out where my boat was docked n threw garbage in the cockpit 2x's left nasty notes so I don't take this platform serious no longer .. have a good Sunday MB ..
Don't know their regs but places like that are usually as is where is with no return. Maybe he can get at least credit on another purchase.
I agree. I'm really happy overall, minus the wrong parts. The pitted FR8 has an immaculate bore so I'll have fun with that one. May the surplus gods be on your side with your next order!
Maybe go in-person might be a awesome way of getting stuff from them
It would be but I dont think thats an option unfortunately.
revolver parts might be colt
The quality doesn't exactly say colt to me but I'll look around at some examples and maybe I missed it. Thanks!
It’s like watching a disappointing Christmas video
The bores on the FR8's turned out really good at least. The 'good one' has already cleaned up nice.
I see a couple of gallons of PB Blaster in your future....
Never used PB. I generally use break cleaner. Surprisingly, they are all cleaning up well.
You may want to fumigate your house after opening those.
You definitely don't want to see how those were stored.
I can only imagine.
Boat Anchor Grade 😢
Turns out....the bore is beautiful. I'll do something fun with it.
Why is this company ( and others) still in business ?
Because people like me keep buying. Honestly, my only issue is the wrong revolver parts kits. The bore on the FR8's are great. I'll still give them a shot at fixing it.
Not even Gun Jesus would approve of those FR8s.
Hopefully he would approve of the final projects. One already cleaned up really well and I have a fun project for the other.
That would be a good deal if they cost 50 bucks.
Thankfully, the bores are in excellent condition...who knew?!
It can still fire and function with the pitting. For what you paid for it, i think you're overreacting a bit
Agreed and they both have great bores. One cleaned up well already and I'm working on the other.
Through the other one on GB someone would be interested
The bore is in great shape so I'm going to have some fun with it.
Either I missed what you paid or you didn't say...but Either way, You got ripped...They know what they are sending out...or they're picking and packing in the dark...You have your work cut out for you brother!
The "good one" is already cleaned up and the rough one has a fantastic bore! They were $88 each.
MY FR8 WAS NOT A TRUE .308
Correct. They are chambered for 7.62 NATO.
Been over a year for me and nothing
I have never been able to figure out how to order anything from them. The web site is the worst one I've ever seen.
You really need to call or email.
I heard from RustySurplus that
HL has been really busy, so I emailed James and said I will contact him in November to place an order for some parts and see if he has anything that would trip my trigger... .Again, great ..
I think you are exactly right! If you ever find out what those parts go to be sure and share. I have no doubt they are very busy. Even with the issues I'm still happy with these and looking forward to making some fun M10's. Thanks for the comment!
Why does it take so long for Hunters Lodge to ship? To me, this makes no sense.
I think its just a lack of staff. Some people have faster results than me.
Take the worst to gun buyback program, may get your money back, or more. Lol
Good idea!
That rifle should be tested for bubonic plague.
Turns out....the bore is great!
My god..never in my 60+ years of smiting have I ever gotten junk this bad from Anyone
You get what you pay for. These were really inexpensive and honestly, Im happy overall minus the revolver parts. The bores are the FR8s are great.
That first rifle isn't even gunsmith special quality. It's beyond pitted and even if you cleaned it up and restored it. Likely you wouldn't be able to fire it... my god man. You would be better off going to an ATM and withdrawing the money you spent and lighting it on fire.
I'm someone who likes projects so I'll see what I can do with it. Surprisingly enough it had a GREAT bore. I think I can get her working again :-)
I don't have a youtube channel but I will give my advice on yours. Don't buy from them. You will most likely get a box of turds. They violate postal regulations with their slow shipping. Send out junk.
whoa, what trash is for sale
I can’t watch your videos. You know this was Hunters Lodge and you sound so distraught over what you received. You can state the problems with the rifles without the anguish.
Thank you for the honest commentary. I do put time stamps in there so you can jump to the re-caps if you are interested.
