Im surprised Grace said they de-powered Wanda because she was relentlessly powerful in this movie. She bulldozed through every obstacle. Although im unsure how Wanda will continue after this. I agree they should have made it more clear on how she got corrupted by the darkhold, they mention it in the movie but maybe having a flashback at the start would have helped.

I will say I was really happy to see the cameos in this movie end up getting destroyed in 2 minutes.
I hate how people all want these marvel movies to be cameo after cameo for 2 hours straight now so it was great seeing only a couple and then have them murdered in crazy ways lol.
Worst part is this stuff gets leaked months in advance so people just want to see stuff they already know, not even get surprised. Loved what we got instead.

I don’t understand everyone’s issues with Wanda. I guess if you wanted her to be a hero I can see how’d you’d be disappointed but I found her to be an extremely compelling antagonist, and her arc reminded me of another amazing villain from a Sam Raimi movie, Doc Ock. I loved every element of her character.

    • @__Oku__
      @__Oku__ 2 года назад +122

No one minds her being a villain. That's what we all expected. But she was unrecognizable in this movie. It's not the Wanda from the end of WandaVision. She just suddenly was the most evil villain of the MCU out of nowhere. We could have at least seen her slow descent into madness.

The most disappointing thing was that in the first Doctor Strange movie, it was established as Strange overreaching and tampering with time will have its consequences. In No Way Home it was established that Strange tampering with reality will have its consequences. But in the follow-up, we see there's no such consequences but the antagonist is Wanda. It detaches the whole arc from its core as it doesn't deliver on what promised. This movie should actually have explored the ramifications of Strange messing with reality in No Way Home and if it did have a villain in Wanda, then it should've been a variant while the MCU proper Wanda was recruited to help Strange but she was seduced by the possibility that she can make her family whole in the multiverse. The darkhold corrupting Wanda could have been explored and like Agathe said, a version of Wanda who became totally possessed by Chthon would have been shown as a parallel or a cautionary tale.

They should hire you to write. Yea, it was more like a WandaVision 2 movie than a Dr. Strange follow-up. I'm one of the few that thought his first movie was actually really good and presented interesting and new ideas not often explored in movies in general. The idea of the spiritual realm or "astral plane" here on earth being a place where human spirits, demons and angels operate within our world was very interesting to me. I liked the idea of an overlap of 2 dimensions that regular humans can't see. I was looking forward to Dr. Strange story lines dealing with spiritual problems that physical medicine can't solve (thus bringing his true purpose from being a medical doctor to being a spiritual doctor to fruition).

I really didn't need Wanda in Dr. Strange 2 at all, but as long as we had to have her I was thinking she would be along for the ride since they have different types of magic. This ended up being more like her movie, IMO.

Agreed. Wanda has always been a questionable character. I don't really get what a lot of others see in her unless they're projecting a comics version on the mcu. Every movie she's done dodgy shit. She volunteered for Hydra, mind controlled the avengers and helped Ultron, she didn't like being on house arrest after killing innocents so ran out to destroy an airport, didn't want to sacrifice her A.I. boyfriend so let's sacrifice all those Wakandans soldiers and half the galaxy. Then she mind controlled the whole town and still saw herself as the victim when called out. Then this movie? Massacres all those sorcerers? Willing to kill a teenager. She's a villain. She always has been. The films just need to stop trying to frame her story as a poor little sad girl.

So I read a very detailed leak from 4chan many many months ago by someone who claimed to have gone to a test screening and about 85% of what they said was in the movie (and this was stuff NOT in trailers such as the music battle) which makes me believe they saw the version before reshoots - in that version they said that Wanda was being manipulated by Cthon and the demons goal was to get America’s powers so it could crossover and take over multiverses (but Wanda believed it was so she could have her boys back). Then at the end Strange was able to break Wanda free of its manipulation and they both took it on and she ended up sacrificing herself by destroying the castle to prevent that from happening to anyone else from. It kind of “redeemed” her and explained why she suddenly went bad. If that was in fact true and they changed that aspect during reshoots, I’m curious to know why.

The way I feel about it is that doctor strange works a bit like green lantern in the mcu. He has got some "standard" attacdks, like the bands and the sling rings and what not and after that it comes down to his creativity and imagination. Thats also how he could overcome a lot of the obstacles in the first movie (by quick thinking and creative problem solving rather than being the most powerful sorcerer). In that sense I justified it for myself in that he accidentally hit the piano keyboard as he was getting up and that gave him the idea to use this kind of magic. From there it just escaleted because dark strange was sort of inspired by 616 strange and vice versa. I do agree though that thinking about it the scene can seem a bit odd. How long do you want this movie to be? They can't explain every single difference in each universe they come across. We were perfectly accepting of Alligator Loki, but different coloured traffic lights is where the line is drawn?
Also you say that Wanda is oddly hysterical, whilst also forgetting that she tortured and enslaved a town full of people (and her confrontation with SWORD makes it apparent that she caught onto what she was doing.) Wanda was already rather insane in Wandavision, and the Darkhold simply made it worse. I also don't see how she is one-dimensional. One-dimensional is how I describe Endgame Thanos because he wants to destroy everything. Wanda wanted her sons, the family she never got, because she knows that almost every version of her has that. That scene where the boys are throwing things at her and running in fear GUTTED me man. I hardly call that one-dimensional
It's a real shame you didn't like this movie that much because I thought it slapped. Not an MCU top tier but I think it was better FATWS, the second half of Wandavision, What If? and Black Widow for sure. I enjoyed seeing Wanda as a Villain here since that reflects her story in the comics, they definitely gave her free reign for her to unleash Chaos and her power however she wanted to. But I was just disappointed that to me there were not enough fight scenes between Scarlett Witch and Doctor Strange against each other with both of them being at they're most powerful. Like you couldn't see them show their extreme levels of power at the same time they had to stagger them apart.

I definitely agree that the ad campaign revealed way too much of this movie. Many of the twists might have hit harder had they not been set up in the trailer to be a taste of something bigger, when in reality they were the whole meal. If they continue with this trend, I will have to be careful of how much promotional stuff I look at to preserve my viewing experience, which really sucks because I love a well-made trailer that gets you properly excited for what's to come. Feige apparently isn't happy with it either, and I hope the other execs understand why.

It’s been a year and now I can say the title should’ve been Dr. Strange and The Scarlett Witch in One other Universe of Madness. It’s barely his own movie and more of a sequel to WandaVision, however this isn’t the movie I would’ve wanted for her. Quite sad they didn’t just give Wanda her own solo movie that could lead to her meeting her true father Magneto, and introduce the X-Men. Mordo should’ve been the villain as he was set up to be at the end of Dr. Strange. No instead we get an alternative version of him that has no relation to the MCU Dr. Strange. The only information we get is that the main MCU Mordo had deadly battles with Dr. Strange but off screen. We never know what their relationship is like after the first movie.

I liked the music fight because I felt it was just a really fun creative way to stage a fight scene between two godlike wizards; like a live action Looney Toons bit that I found really amusing and fun. I much preferred it to just another generic portal fight.
As for why I’m giving it a pass that Strange hasn’t used that spell before…I mean…there’s crap tons of spells that he’s only used once. Like when he turned all of Thanos’ projectiles into butterflies, or made those invisible monster hands. Dr Strange has never exactly operated on a hard magic system; his spells have always basically been determined by what the filmmakers think looks cool in the moment. Raimi has very animated sensibilities, and in that respect I think the music fight was right up his alley.

There was nothing hysterical about her performance and having seen Wandavision, I understood her reasons completely which made me feel for her even more. I actually teared up because I felt so bad for her at the end. I also don’t think this undermines Wandavision either. At the end of it, it literally shows her using the Darkhold and reading things she’s not supposed to so her going this far makes complete sense to me. Also Let’s not forget she held an entire town hostage too so this really shouldn’t be a surprise that she went this far and this is coming from someone that loves Wanda.

I loved the musical fight! For sure, came out of nowhere but I love the idea. Realised as it was happening - musical symbols are as close as we have to magic in our world. You can draw this symbol and hear the note. The more you during together the stronger your spell. You have to practice to years to get it right.
Think the language of music is as valid a medium for them to cast against each other as any made up ancient language. I just took it as opportunistic on his part that he happened to be around instruments and used the spells he knew. Like if he fell next to a sword in a fight he might grab it to use in the action scene.
