    Wow, we have some seriously passionate Walther fans.
    Firstly, I definitely should have done more research on the toolset prior to release. That is on me.
    However, for a "Gun specific" multitool only 2 of the 7 implements have anything to do with guns. The rest are generic in nature. Even if I give a pass to the quality on those items (which isn't great). The other implements are just thrown into it.
    Where is the carbon scraper? Sight adjustment tool? And I'm sure there are many other gun specific tools that would have been better than a spare blade or the file that doesn't have any texture.
    Flame on!
    Cheers,
    Dominic

      Walthers is primarily a maker of PISTOLS, so there's no sight adjustment tool or carbon scraper needed, in contrast to prior Leatherma, SOG and Gerber tools that are focused on the M16/M4 platform. As for the craptastic file, your criticism of that is dead on.

      By walther for walther pistols. I would have put a dedicated slide release key on there because walthers require a key to unlock the slide to take it off. My buddy had one that he got on the private sell market and it didnt have a key so i had to rig up one out of other things to turn the pivot in the frame to let the slide come off. I believe Ruger uses the same thing or type but their own key has to be used. I know the LC series does anyway.

    I looked at the GMT 150 because I'm writing a book on MTs and other pocket tools, even telephoned with the responsible product manager (here in Germany). The file may not be the greatest, but particularly that "weird thing" you didn't understand is very helpful to push an pull springs in weapons. So, as a lot of others correctly stated before, it's a specialized tool. On the one hand it is just that. On the other hand, as you stated yourself, it has got a very interesting form factor for the pliers. As I have commented several times, in comparison to small pliers from Knipex (and also some other companies) EVERY MT pliers fail to help to cope with medium jobs. Even a LM Surge pliers will fail to move a nut of 1/2 or 3/4", or get a grip on something of 20mm or more in width/thickness - which is no problem for a Cobra 150. But a small pair could complement those nicely. The Nextool Sailor and also the SOG power pint are pretty OK in that regard, but on very heavy, clumsy frames. So if you want a size between a real pair of pliers and the Victorinox pliers on SAKs, this fits perfectly... plus all the specific stuff.

  • @hrmIwonder
    @hrmIwonder 4 месяца назад

    The SOG powerpint for the win! I ordered thumb studs for it, made the bottle opener into a flathead, filed the scissors to a point and rearranged the tools so the most useful ones are on one side and all one handed opening and closing. It's an excellent compact tool.

    Dominic this has been mentioned by others but this is a Gun Maintenance Tool. Typically these have a few general tools, some ok others there to fill a slot with a few firearm specific tools especially those pertaining to the brand. Get the point you’re making however I doubt if Walther is trying to get into the full blown multi tool market. Full description below:
    The Gun Maintenance Tool 150 is a featherweight champion when it comes to gun maintenance. It includes eleven practical tools that together weigh only 66 g for quick help on the shooting range or in the field. Tools: pliers, plain blade, serrated blade, screwdriver, diameter gauge, file (fine and coarse), ruler, cable cutter and spring hook, plus a bottle opener for when youve finished your work. The GMT 150 can be carried almost invisibly on your belt in its nylon pouch.

    It's because that is made for a gun specifically Walthers line of pistols. That's what GMT stands for. Gun Maintenance Tool. • @JeffBradley-yu4tr
    @JeffBradley-yu4tr Месяц назад

    For a gun specific tool, it needs a small punch (1/16"), a medium punch (1/8"), a flat head, a Phillips head, a 1/4" drive, a micro "pry bar" made of something softer than steel (e.g. polymer, brass, etc.), and parallel pliers. If you are specific to a model (AR, shotgun, etc.), then you may want to add a front sight tool, choke wrench, or something along those lines. It doesn't need a knife blade at all. (How many people are there who carries guns and don't also have a pocketknife already on them?)

    beefy 1/4 bit driver, knife, file, prybar, combo opener. saw is nice too for whittling projects in woods. But for street use, not that important.

    The best small multitool I have and often carry on the weekend is the leatherman juice xe6 and its only ok. Would love something that size that you could pick and choose your tools.

    This does look like an interesting platform for customizing. I don't pocket a multitool because most are heavy, but I'd pocket this if the tools could get dialed in. I don't EDC a firearm, so some of this stuff I don't care about. I'm not even that keen on a blade at all given that I'd still carry a knife. But this would be a cool platform to make an ultimate TSA friendly bladeless tool. I'm thinking adding a phillips, improving the flat, and getting a beefier file. I'd be interested to see what you come up with on customizing.

    Well, I (was) going to be (helpful) and point out that the tool configuration signifies that this is more of an armorer's or CCW EDC tool, but this has been clearly communicated over the vast (and often unnecessarily rude) comments section. What I (will) say is mistake or not, thanks for posting this. I was unaware of this tool and will be adding one to my bag. Leopold also makes a tool (similar) to this which I own and is great to have. It doesn't have pliers so the Walther is actually a step up! Cheers!

    For EDC, nah im good. But to keep in a range bag, hell yeah! Also this is not meant to just carry, its for taking apart and cleaning guns. Maybe they should make an EDC version.

    It’s a firearm multitool not a standard. That’s why the tools on it are different than your standard set.

    I like the slim profile but I don't own a firearm. If they would make one with a main straight blade, double sided file, 3d philips head screwdriver and a strong flat head screwdriver I would be interested.

    This isn’t supposed to be an EDC tool. It’s designed to go in your range bag or go bag to do gun maintenance.

    • @maxlvledc
      @maxlvledc  4 месяца назад

      The gun specific tools are fine, but most of the more generic tools are mediocre at best. Like the file that has no texture.

    • @InternalIbex
      @InternalIbex 4 месяца назад +1

      @@maxlvledcnever said it was a good gun tool 😂. Hook is for springs, guages for telling diameters on parts or bullets and whatnot, no carbon scrapper because many gun manufacturers tell you not to use them. It’s to do minor things to your gun at the range or in the field. Not at the level that would require an armorer.

    Love the size and form factor, but the rest of the tools would have to improve before I was ready to pay $50 for it. It would be cool to see more manufacturers produce tools with a steel frame and then plastic/G10/micarta "scales".
