The best version of this classic (Original) done way back in the early 80's. Levi Stubbs killed this.
The four Tops are very underrated. I think with The Whispers and The Spinners, people just didn't separate them from the pack.
One of my No.1 favorite Soul group of 60's I Love the Four Tops! It does feel like Wedding Vows ...lol......never thought of it that way.....yeah.....Beautiful!
Levi Stubbs was an amazing vocalist.... beautiful song
Gorgeous song and his voice is beautiful! 😊
Love your reactions and love that beautiful face of yours.
Thank you Angela. You're the 1st person I've seen react to the original song by the Four Tops. Mr. Levi Stubbs sings this beautiful ballad. Angela, this old man is going to ask you to take a leap of faith and please react to Lakeside "I Need You" (video version on stage). R&B ballad, you won't be disappointed. Thank you
👍❤️👍
Yes, the original version of I believe in you and me sung by the late Levi Stubb's lead singer of the Four Tops. Truly a masterpiece and he sang this without the back up from the rest of the Tops. Mr. Stubb's was always regarded as having one of the best voices in music. Whitney Houston did a popular remake of the song but the original is the best ❤️🎙️🎶🎼🎵..
Levi Stubbs is one of my favorite male vocalists ever.
yes. feels like a wedding vow.
I fell in love with this song with this version. Believe it or not, Whitney's version is the third recording. David Peaston also covered it in the late 80s/early 90s. I'm a fan of all versions, which are different and superb.
"Walk Away Renee" is my all-time favorite by The Four Tops probably because it's the first song of their's that I heard and so became sentimental about.
Love the Four Tops.Never heard this 😢
This song is beautiful. I'm gonna play it back. Have a great holiday!
Here and there in this recording, I believe that I'm hearing a similarity between Levi's voice and that of Luther's! 😊
Well the Christmas movie you love is also basically a "cover". The original The Preacher's Wife is a black & white film starring Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven. You owe it to yourself to watch that version.
Great Point.
Yes, yes!! Love this version. I remember crying the first time I listened to it. ❤ Something about hearing ballads from a male perspective, especially those that are covered more by women, are just to die for. FUN FACT: The lead singer of The Four Tops, Levi Stubbs, was also the voice of Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. 😂😂
"Feed me Seymour!!!" Ha!
Thanks for this, lovely song.
Suggestions: the middle 2 songs from the 1963 John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman album: My One and Only Love and Lush Life. Both are classics for the material and performances. As far as I know the only time Coltrane recorded with a singer.
Speaking of wedding vows, that was our wedding song.
They were at their best in the 1970's! I think I requested this tune before, but here goes! Imagination singing It's Just An Illusion! That's an introspective song questioning reality like we're doing now it seems like! Hasta cuando!
Although some singers like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion were very and I mean very good singers, I've always had trouble with the fact that they sang only covers or songs written for them to perform...and I believe The Four Tops have been, as well, singers focusing on singing and not so much interested in writing to round out their artistic careers. But still I love listening to them!
They were so good
I had never heard this version, the Whitney version is always stuck in my mind.
But this version is wonderful.
I love this version...l agree it's different from the male perspective.. I'm an 80s gal, so l prefer the original with the wonderful voice of Mr Levi Stubbs..🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👍👏🎵🎼🇺🇸
Another good song
Not sure how she thought whitney done this first? Maybe she does not know how old the 4 tops are. One of my favorite songs.
Most likely because she’s very young. This is the purpose behind her show.
Hey ms Angela. Hope you enjoyed your 4th ..I love The 4 Tops although they were way before my time I had a musical history lesson from the elders in my family. Please checkout The Four Tops Still Waters Run Deep.. mr Levi Stubbs voice was just the truth I believe only one of the original members is still alive..We have to honor our true Legends while they're still here
You’re hair is so beautiful
A lot of songs Whitney Houston saying we’re cover songs just like Luther Vandross did. Their voices were so good that they were able to take a song and make it their own. I’ve always liked this version better by the Four Tops.
Indestructible and Loco In Acapulco are great tunes
They have done some great songs and this is quite a slow one for them, but really good vocals and tune-Colin Ward
This was done (by The Four Tops ) before Whitney.
Like Angela I first heard ( I believe in you and me) from the movie and liked it, sometime later I heard The Four Tops sing it and did a little research. Whitney's version was more popular but in my opinion The Four Tops version is such a great song what do you change to make it better. Example toward the end of the song you may not think saying (I was lost) in a much louder voice works but it makes the singing more meaningful.
I remember this song. Someone else also sung this song too. It was a female singer though and it was also good.
It was Whitney Houston.. She recorded it for the soundtrack for the film The Preachers Wife..
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 YES! I remember now.
A lot of artist have covered this song.
Almost everything Whitney Houston sang that made it to the charts was a cover.
That's no true. Whitney covered some great songs, but she also had plenty of her own original hits. In fact she's the only artist to have seven consecutive number one Billboard Hot 100 hits ("Saving All My Love for You," "How Will I Know," "Greatest Love of All," "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)," "Didn't We Almost Have It All," "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go", with only 1 of those being a cover.
Just about everything Whitney Houston sang was a cover
