My all-time fave Carpenters song. ❤❤❤
mine too
Spot on comment, nobody I have heard described her voice the way you just did--brilliant observation!!!! I have been describing it for decades a such. It's as if your mother is singing to you, rocking you and comforting you, and puts you in perfect peace and safety. You know you are loved. Box up all that emotion and you have Karen's voice.
Her best vocal ever, that is saying something because every song she ever sang was flawless. I put her on top of any list of female singers, she was a gift to the world.
Listening to Karen Carpenter brings back memories of my teenage days! I would sit for hours and listen to her! I cried like a baby when she died! RIP beautiful lady❤
You, too!!! It is amazing the effect this glorious voice had on so many of us. I miss her presence to this day.❤❤❤
The purity. Intonation and phrasing is beyond words. There will never be another Karen. Ever. God let us hear what one of his angels sounds like. Glorious.❤
The legend is that Karen didn't like this song. She didn't think it suited her voice. She heard Richard's arrangement and agreed to come in and record a 'demo track' to Richard's arrangement. With lyrics written on a napkin, Karen began to sing and it was so perfect the 'demo track' became the official track used on the album. One Take Karen had struck again!
The best female voice of all time, natural, pure, No 1 in Heaven as well!
She kills this
Karen's beautiful voice is so recognizable that all you have to hear is her sing one note and you know it is her. Truly the mark of a special singer. I was fortunate enough to see The Carpenters in concert in 1976. I'm 78 and I still think of that concert as one of the highlights of my life.
Masterpiece❤❤❤❤❤
This is my favorite song by the Carpenters!
Mine, too!😢
Beautiful Karen.
If only she had realized that. Well, now you get me crying...
I have said it loads of times and will say it again the greatest singer ever.
I have never heard this song but The Carpenter’s was one of my mom’s favorites and we were raised on this music. Karen has probably the most beautifully clear voices of all time.
If you don't know the song is about a female groupie that had a relationship with a rock star, only to be discarded.
@@michaelasay8587 right! Inconceivable!
@@jamesrawlins735 You're thinking of 'Superstar'. Not this song.
The voice and this is a very very sad song but beautiful end timeless rip Karen Carpenter
Thank you for listening to the song the whole way through! And Mel, you were correct, Karen's voice was like a mother's voice comforting her child. God Bless You Both!!!
Karen was so sweet❤️🙏🏽
Her voice gets me every time. My all time favorite vocalist! Every time I hear her voice it touches me.
Beautiful song beautiful voice💜🙏🔥
Written by singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka. Sung hauntingly beautiful by the late great Karen Carpenter. Brilliant! You should do a reaction to the original by Neil Sedaka. You will be pleasantly surprised. Lovely reaction by you both.
It was actually written by the great Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett (of Delaney and Bonnie - she also played the tall blonde heavyset waitress on Roseanne). The idea for the song came from Rita Coolidge, who got the idea after watching the relationships of female groupies and rock stars. In fact, the first version of the song was called Groupie (Superstar).
@@jamesrawlins735 You're commenting on the wrong page. This song was written by Neil Sedaka.
wow this blew me away. the deep notes 😍 😍
Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody wrote Solitare for the Carpenters in 1975.
when i was a teenager, i was often unbelievably depressed, and i would sit in the dark, listening to the radio, waiting for songs like this so that i could hit bottom and find out that i wasnt there by myself...(great hair, mel! :P :) )
The music was composed by Neil Sedaka with Lyrics by Phil Cody back in 1972. First sung by Neil Sedaka on 11/01/1972. His live performance of his song is just beautiful with a full orchestra accompaniment. Brilliant! You must check it out.
Masquerade is another sad and yet beautiful song by the Carpenters. Please react to that.
One of my top 5 favorite songs. Karen kills it on the vocals -- one of her best performances! Love Mel's comment -- the song is so sad, but her voice is so beautiful!
My favorite of theirs ! ❤️
💯 ABSOLUTE DIAMOND GEM FROM THE ANGEL! 😊 ALL THE BEST SHAWN AND MEL, YOU GUYS BE GOOD!👍
Karen had such a pure, unique voice.
that voice! THAT VOICE!!! Give, Kiss Me The Way You Did Last Night, a try. It's happy, up beat and, THAT VOICE!
Boy does this song show off Karen's pure and angelic vocals. A Neil Sedaka song so, so beautifully interpreted by Karen. It's also interesting that about this same time another song entitled Solitaire hit the airwaves. Totally different tune and vibe, more like Euro house music vibe, but sung to perfection by the brilliant Laura Brannigan. The juxtaposition of these two singers is such a beautiful and great contrast on how majestic voices come in many shapes and sizes. Laura could tunefully belt out a song to the max, while angelic Karen's soft, sweet vocals come as near to pitch perfect as a singer could be. Thank God for both, and both gone way too soon. RIP, Karen and Laura.
Her lower register remains unsurpassed!
Love your channel God Bless you both from Charleston, WV ❤
Thank you so much and God bless you too❤️❤️
Richard Carpenters magnificent arrangement skills are showcased in this song. Every instrument is in its place and Karen’s vocals in the center of it and holding it all together. In my opinion it is Karen’s best vocal performance. Rumor has it Karen didn’t like the song but like any true artist she nailed her performance. This is one of their best songs in my opinion.
Beautiful.My favorite.
Shawn and Mel, Subscribed because your videos are always awesome!
Thank you so very much ❤️🙏🏽
LUUUUV U GUYS!!!! HAPPY FRIDAY BLESS YALL
Y'all should hear Masquerade !!!
If you liked this check out their song, „Masquerade“.
This is a Neil Sedaka song who wrote en recorded this song in 1972 but from all the many covers there is out there i think The Carpetners version is my most favorite version from "Solitaire"
I just finished playing online solitaire for a couple of hours and wanted to listen to some music; ironically this was the first video I watched (love Shawn and Mel's reactions). It's an addiction for me, like some people are addicted to video games. (Someone up there is sending me a message with this song?). Karen hated this song and didn't want to sing it, but was talked into it. Her voice is incomparable.
This song and "Desperado" are my favorites from Karen. Shows the true beauty of her voice,
I've been watching you guys for a while. It's time to subscribe. Your Great!
Karen had a soft tender voice
I learned to sing from listening to Karen when I was al little girl...love her so much. Thanks guys
You really should have checked out version by the chap who wrote it and had a big hit with it. He is the wonderful Neil Sedaka. An amazing singer and musician.
Will do
100% agree!
Remembering my teen years, dancing a slow dance with some pretty girl at some party. Good memories, good days! ♥️
This is from 1975, when Karen & Richard stopped touring & Karen began to radically lose weight. You'd never know by her voice. the photo of them on the LBUM COVER says it all. -----------------MJL, 77 y/o
Clay Aiken did a fantastic job on this song when he was on American Idol.
Ms. Karen will never be matched in voice.... or in her beautiful heart!
I was a long distance trucker for 30 years after I married my highschool sweetheart that lasted less than two years. I hope you two make it Forever.
Try Carpenters Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft please
Karen never liked this song … she thought it dragged …. But I think everybody else loves it .
Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice; and this is a very sad song. But, the saddest song i can remember was Alyssa Lies, by Jason Michael Carroll.
There are very few true altos, and Karen Carpenter is one of the best. It seems she didn't like this song that much, and I think she really preferred singing in her higher voice, but the lower she goes the richer and purer she gets! Truly amazing.
And to think she started out playing drums and wasn't really interested in singing. SMDH.
Karen always makes us cry but it's ok because her voice lullaby us.
Karen could’ve sung the phone book and made you FEEL something deep in your soul!
Neil sedakas version is equally awesome
Karen Carpenter was incredible!
If you haven’t done so yet….you may want to listen to Elvis’s version of this song, as well!
BTW, have you done Debbie Bone’s You Light Up My Life, yet?

If you need another happy Carpenter’s song.. “These Good Old Dreams!” ruclips.net/video/Sjl2unvyl48/видео.htmlsi=13wQ_5SoWBgmXJSZ
Check out "When The Lord" by Susanne Sundfør. It deals with the same disease Karen Carpenter died from.
You think this one is sad you should really listen to Elvis' version.
