Even if the names of the composers are lost to time it's amazing their music survives 600+ years later.
Many medieval works are anonymous because the authors deliberately did not sign their names. It was believed that such modesty was pleasing to God.

For us, the "moderns", it would certainly be a strange and unhealthy world.
The world would have been less tampered with less exploited by industry ...but it would also have been more brutish in most places ,harsh legal system , class system rigidly enforced and a sewage system that was unfragrant and bad for the punters ' health...et it does look more innocent

I know I'll cry after listening to this playlist, but I keep coming back to it because the music is so incredibly beautiful. I'm fine, I want to live and I'm glad that I live, but I still feel so sad every time I realize that my peers think medieval music is terrible. I am sad that I cannot live in such a fairy tale that I see while listening to all these songs, but I reassure myself that soon I will become freer and will be able to devote my life to history and art!
Anybody who says "medieval music is terrible" probably labels themselves and their careers as being "influencers" as well, and constantly trying to be relevant on insta grm.

I love the Puer Natus in Bethlehem. The best version is by Michael Praetorius, a German composer of the late 16th early 17th century.

Modern Korean and Chinese pop songs borrow a lot of styles from western medieval music. Just watch a Cpop music video and you can see a lot of it.
My favorite songs on this playlist are “Miri it is while sumer ilast”, “Edi beo thu, Hevene Quene”, and “Bryd one brere”.
I've had "Bryd one brere" on repeat since I first heard it the other day. If you like that, check out a playlist called Chanson de toile. A bit more upbeat than Bryd but I think you'd like it.

The flemish region was certainly very well developed at that time and was characterized rather by misery and poverty in the 19th century.
Many regions had a developed supply and cultural system.
There was not an eternal chaos with people in misery.
This means that even ordinary people did not necessarily have to live in misery.
The 20th century brought the first world war and the world war II and great perversions and confused ideologies.
Industrialization before forced many workers to live in misery.
This must not be forgotten.
