    When you hear "exporting terrorism" in general from the US State Dept., but very specifically in the case of Col. Qaddafi and Libya, please know this consisted of aiding Tanzania, giving financial and military resources to the opponents of the whites-only Rhodesian and apartheid governments of South Africa - this meant, being an ally to Mugabe and Chris Hani and the armed struggles they were fighting. Similarly, Cuba was accused of "exporting terrorism" when it sent troops or technicians to Angola, Namibia, Grenada [Maurice Bishop], Haiti [Fr. Aristide] and Nicaragua [FSLN]. Further, he provided aide to the Irish Republican Army. With the US bombing of Libya and his lynching, the last chapter closed on a global solidarity movement that was not only rhetorical but significantly material - with money, weapons, training. History will bookend the fall of the Berlin Wall on one end and Col. Qaddafi's murder on the other.

      While everything you pointed out is true and needs to be said for historical clarity, what difference does anti-imperialism make when it is achieved through dictatorship and death-dealing against the people who are ostensibly one's own? From Nkrumah to Mugabe and from Amin to Castro and back to Lenin, I have yet to see an internal leftist critique of the means used to justify the communist or socialist ends. Each ended up being authoritarians willing to torture, imprison, and/or delete dissenters/opposition, not to mention their record on the freedoms of girls and women (especially in the Muslim versions of these supposedly freer societies. And for the record, I am not advocating capitalism or pretending the West has real democracies. But are we to believe that Putin's Russia or Jinping's China is preferable to (you pick the Western OR formerly Eastern imperialist)? The will to power and its inevitable destruction can show up in any political form. If I've missed something, I'm happy to learn. But I'm just mystified at how we so glossily determine who is on the right side of history.

According to this interview the army was dissolved and ordinary citizens were given arms. I believe at one time he was more than willing to work out details with anyone who wanted to talk. • @jamesanderson677
      @jamesanderson677 2 года назад +1

      Gaddafi put forward $300 million. This opened the way for the African Development Bank to contribute US$50 million with the Western Development Bank putting an additional US$27 million. On 26 December 2007, Africa got its first communications satellite.
      The initiative by Gaddafi to set everything in motion by a mere gesture of putting forth $300 million was all that was needed to get results. And that is how Africa got its first communications satellite, thereby reducing the money paid to Europe every year.
      The RASCOM satellites are an attestation of a vision by leaders to connect the whole continent together and stop relying on former colonizers. It is for such reasons that the West grew increasingly cold towards Gaddafi, viewing him as a despicable and contemptible political figure that had to be removed from the face of the earth.
      And it also for these reasons that the double standards of the West are brought to light.

    Gaddafi seemed like a hero until he started sucking up to the West and tried privatising 50% of the Libyan economy. Also he tried getting Sadat to torpedo the QE2 full of Jewish pilgrims. A wicked man, though a picnic compared to Suharto and Pinochet.

      He was put in power buy the west. They played the game of cats and mouse for decades to serve the west's interest. He keept all oil money in Western banks and did not use it to develope Libya. Do you know libyan people go to Tunisia and Egypt for medical treatment. Libya has no modern airport no public transport . The worst education system and health care in the Arab world.
