Many have already said it, but this is the best explanation of Gaddafi I have ever seen. Everyone else depicts him as a either a monster or a saint, but you did a great job of remaining unbaised. Amazing.
Nah, he was an animal who stole wealth from Libyan he opened fire on peaceful protestors. He had to pay billions in damages for victim families of Libyan Government sponsored terrorist attack that destroyed mid air jetliner with hundreds of people. Only uneducated degenerates who are not even Libyans, would suppord Gaddafi
BS. They totally avoid actually discussing his involvement with terrorism. Infact it’s totally whitewashed, and they tiptoe around it by saying these people were “designated as terror organizations by western governments”. WHAT?
Casual historian made some good highlights as well, like how Gaddafi basically just decided to annex a sea at one point which was in violation of international law
False. It will invariably exhibit bias unless it tells the complete narrative. This was not achieved as the creator is clearly lacking tonnes of information. The individual in question was a psychopathic monster. You would know what I am discussing if you and your family experienced his regime as a general civilian (not someone who was employed by the regime). That's not to say Libya is any better now.
I was 15 when Gaffafi was killed and I remember the UK media painting him as a mad tyrant whose death should be unambiguously celebrated. This one video has taught me more than countless hours of news coverage ever could. Amazing channel
rat thrower But is a plane over Scotland or a police woman worth the lives of all the Libyans that got caught in a civil war after his death? Gaddafi was the only one able to make sure all of Libya didn’t go back to the Stone Age. Its a very unsustainable system, yes, but no one has given any better alternatives.
@@alexanderchristopher6237 Yes, it's absolutely worth it. They had the choice to get rid of him themselves but they chose to support his terrorism, so no pity for those fuckers. It's good they are dead. This is justice. They carry out attacks on us, they die. Don't pretend that they are innocent and Gaddafi is solely responisble of the bombings. He commanded it, BUT HIS PEOPLE carried it out. Death on in his people and every Western traitor that supports his terrorist legacy.
@JoshuaNorton what about the justice of the countless millions of lives lost because of the British empire, it’s widely known of Churchill letting millions of bengals starve to death, no one is perfect, nor is any country, every country has links to terrorist attacks and have blood on there hands, but to be content with the death of thousand of innocent people is in no way justified.
GADDAFI’S LAST FORMAL SPEECH “ In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful… For 40 years, or was it longer, I can’t remember, I did all I could to give people houses, hospitals, schools, and when they were hungry, I gave them food. I even made Benghazi into farmland from the desert. I stood up to attacks from that cowboy Ronald Reagan, when he killed my adopted orphaned daughter, he was trying to kill me, instead he killed that poor innocent child. Then I helped my brothers and sisters from Africa with money for the African Union. I DID ALL I COULD TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF REAL DEMOCRACY, WHERE PEOPLE'S COMMITTEES RAN OUR COUNTRY. But that was never enough, as some told me, even people who had 10 room homes, new suits and furniture, were never satisfied, as selfish as they were, they wanted more. THEY TOLD AMERICANS AND OTHER VISITORS THAT THEY NEEDED ‘DEMOCRACY’ AND ‘FREEDOM’, NEVER REALIZING IT WAS A CUT THROAT SYSTEM, WHERE BIGGEST DOG EATS THE REST. But they were enchanted with those words, never realizing that in America there was no free medicine, no free hospitals, no free housing, no free education, and no free food, except for when people had to beg or go to long lines to get soup. No, no matter what I did, it was never enough for some, but for others, they knew I was the son of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the only true Arab and Muslim leader we’ve had since Salah-al-Deen, when he claimed the Suez Canal for his people, as I claimed Libya, for my people, it was his footsteps I tried to follow - to keep my people free from colonial domination - from thieves who would steal from us. Now, I am under attack by the biggest force in military history, my little African son, Obama wants to kill me, to take away the freedom of our country, to take away our free housing, our free medicine, our free education, our free food, and replace it with American style thievery, called "capitalism". But all of us in the Third World know what that means, it means corporations run the countries, run the world, and the people suffer. So, there is no alternative for me, I must make my stand, and if Allah wishes, I shall die by following His path, the path that has made our country rich with farmland, with food and health, and even allowed us to help our African and Arab brothers and sisters. I do not wish to die, but if it comes to that, to save this land, my people, all the thousands who are all my children, then so be it. Let this testament be my voice to the world, that I stood up to crusader attacks of NATO, stood up to cruelty, stoop up to betrayal, stood up to the West and its colonialist ambitions, and that I stood with my African brothers, my true Arab and Muslim brothers, as a beacon of light. When others were building castles, I lived in a modest house, and in a tent. I never forgot my youth in Sirte, I did not spend our national treasury foolishly , and like Salah-al-Deen, our great Muslim leader, who rescued Jerusalem for Islam, I took little for myself… In the West, some have called me "mad", "crazy", but they know the truth, yet continue to lie. They know that our land is independent and free, not in the colonial grip, that my vision, my path is, and has been clear and for my people and that I will fight to my last breath to keep us free, may Allah almighty help us to remain faithful and free". My brothers and sisters let's start loving more of each other and stop killing each other cause Europe America and other western world will never want to see sunshine for Africans..”

My dad's a Yugoslav aircraft engineer. He travelled to Libya by business, and he really remembers Libya fondly - back then Yugoslavia was the biggest partner to many developing countries, especially Libya, Egypt, Iraq, and China. Our engineers practically built their infrastructure. He always said how different Libya was than other Arab countries he visited - clean streets, peace and calm, and people living pretty well. I wasn't aware of everything in relation to Gaddafi, but this video gave me such a great insight into his entire body of work! No leader is without mistakes, and no leader is without blood on his hands. The Americans know this very well, but they can still afford good photoshop, press and suits. Love and peace to all Africans, and prayers for Libya to become a country again. Thank you for this great video, subscribing!
In cairo we have a street called Josef Tito he was a legend to us. Infrastructure is definitely failing but my grandpa did appreciate the Yugoslav and soviet weapons during the 1973 Arab Israeli war
Someone once said, "Not all democracies are good, and not all dictatorships are bad." It is sad to see a once great country like Libya in ruins. He had his flaws, but I believe that they were better off with him. I am genuinely interested on learning more about Haile Selassie, another controversial leader, a video on him would be good.
There have been a couple 'dictators' who were in the end good for the country. Like Gaddafi and our very own Josip Broz Tito. It's easy for westerners to say 'democracy good, brings prosperity' when they live in prosperous countries. For others, democracy is a commodity, living standards are a necessity. And it's a fact that authoritarian regimes have better potential for economic growth. I would support a dictator who could give us a better life.
After Gaddafis demise it is a shame that Lybias ruling class can't get their shit together to share power and wealth. They would still make enough money 🧐
As a Westerner I only read and heard about Ghaddafi's atrocities, like he was some kind of cartoon villain. This video shed some light on the whole perspective of his regime and policies I still believe he was a crazy dictator, but it was nice to see where he came from and what he was trying to accomplish. Great video as always

They use Obama to cover up and kill Gaddafi. They will influence your people and use them against you. Obama has always regretted for the death of Gaddafi. He was in power. He should have lifted that banned and go in terms with him to use his power to build Africa but sit on the seat and supported his killing. If not America who else will do this diabolical life
Interesting stuff. Gaddafi is also famously the voice of Garfield in the Arabic release of the film Garfield (2004). So a man of many talents you could say.

@@chartreusecircle1546 What? By that logic most modern countries are fake. Stability aside as well, whites can’t be blamed for all modern problems at this point. Mandela didn’t condemn the afrikaners after the end of the apartheid regime and the Zimbabwean economy collapsed after attempting to take land of the whites there. People living now shouldn’t really be blamed for their grandparents crimes. Otherwise, you’d be surprised the number of people who’d need to apologise to themselves
One man's terrorist, another man's freedom fighter summed up the presentation. Again a very well balanced presentation on the channel. The best thing I like about your work is you guys don't end up "passing a judgement" unlike most popular media. History is complex, history is chaotic. 🤘
Exactly, just a neutral perspective based on facts covering good and bad without trying influence any political sides. Sadly a rare thing in modern day media.
Great way to sum it up-history is chaotic. Gadaffi did a lot of bad things, but also a lot of good things. Humans want to put a label on everyone but it's not all black and white.
Oh, don't take it too far. I've never killed another human being in cold blood, and I will go out of my way to avoid supporting anything that will facilitate that. I would need to be faced with preventing the deliberate death of another to make me kill, and short of that I'm not into killing to solve problems. There's nothing wrong with calling out the less sanguine actions of 'freedom fighters'. Forgetting to mention those events in favour of more pleasant ones and justifying it with trite statements such as 'life isn't all black or white' isn't taking a measured historical perspective: it's someone actually taking a position that they are willing to overlook certain crimes if they like the outcome. You do you, but be honest about it.
As a viewer from the UK, it's extremely refreshing to see a balanced presentation of facts presented by an African channel. I'd love to see more high-quality videos like this. Subscribed.
As an American, we get very little news or history about Africa, I find all of your content very informative and easy to follow. Keep up the great work.

Did you know that Dublin has a 🌙 in its flag? It a tribute for the donation of the ottoman sultan for the great Irish famine where the queen of England donated a measly sum and only him had the "courage" to offend her by donating more
The IRA ... Revolutionaries of increasingly questionable judgement the further you trace their history from the Easter Rebellion to the Good Friday Agreement. That link to Gaddafi for international arms dealing combined with a number of their bombings with civilian victims really made it difficult for people who supported the civil rights and Republican cause back in the 1960s to continue supporting them. Especially after Lockerbie. For people like Thatcher, such actions made it so much easier to treat them as unredeemable criminals. There were other options - other strategies - that they could have chosen, if they had been a little less amoral when it came to violent tactics.
I'm from India and I feel overwhelmed by the kind of insightful and unbiased content you guys are disseminating to the audience. I would like to congratulate you this channel for doing commendable work..

Gaddafi was a very imperfect leader with blood on his hands because he was a dictator but the way NATO (U.S and France) intervened and completely destroyed the country is completely inexcusable. They should be ashamed of themselves. Lybia under Gaddafhi had some of the highest living standards of Africa and was a constant reproach and example not only to neighboring countries but also western countries. Such a shame.

@@BrownDusky I guess, but the point is that western powers were the ones who sponsored Gaddafi opponents. Just think if the new currency would truly take down us dollar.
Let’s be get real here, whenever a leader wants to untie a country and get rid of foreign interference, it’s the West and Russia, ect, all the superpowers we know will try to take that leader down, and break the country to pieces again, yes Gaddafi was a bit cocky at times but besides that he did want to unite.
It's good to know the Western world is such an effective scapegoat that there's no liability for the negatives but plenty of praise for the things Gaddafi supposedly wanted to do. I guess it's an example of how we judge others by their actions and we judge ourselves by our intentions. But don't think for a second people like Gaddafi care for you personally. At best you could be useful to them. No one should like their leaders that much.
This is depressing. I was only taught he was an evil dictator on school. Only after I found out that Nelson Mandela had kind words about him I thought I should find out a bit more about him. Anything positive was represented as either opportunistic or not that important, the achievements were always played down.
Salokin Gaddafi was a true African hero. Was he an angel, of course not. Did he have blood on his hands, yes. But he committed way less crimes then the likes of Obama and Bush. The only reason he was so heavily antagonised because he refused to be a puppet to the west, as some other oil rich countries had done. What's worse is that the people who rebelled against him thought they were betraying him but now look at the country, they deceived themselves. The way he died is painful to think about.
And your leaders said hell no how can this man have so much then we must steal instead coming for trade now see how they do it they call him a dictator just for his own people to betray him
As a Libyan who worked with high level government officials during Ghaddafi's regime, and a close friend of many who decided to rise against him, I would like to say this video report is the most accurate and the closest to the Libyan reality. Libya was safe, prosperous and good place for business. The rule was simple. Don't put your nose in Ghaddafi's affairs and you can live how you want to live. But Libya was good for a foreign expat because the money was good while locals made peanuts in comparison. There was a strong resentment among many Libyans towards Ghaddafi's foreign investments in African Union and other international projects. Especially when other Oil rich Arab nations like UAE where investing in their people, Libyans grow resentful and apathetic towards their home. Instead of correcting the mistakes of Ghaddafi, they should their true nature which is their desire to rule and amass wealth by any means even if it meant destroying their homes.
@@naeemmujeeb4581 Let me clarify that for you. A foreign investor in pre-2011 Libya meant one thing. An international company selling services to Libyan government bodies without any emphasis on protecting local labor or demanding a certain percentage of labor force in these companies to be manned by Libyans. People had to scrape around the table by offering whatever they can offer to officials and rich expats. Infrastructure was OK but far behind less rich countries Like Tunisia and Morocco. I have a lot of respect for Gadaffi. He really wanted to improve the lives of Irish people who where being treated as second class citizens in a supposed “equal” democracy. Those who where involved in his cowardly death will be judged accordingly Edit: There is a very famous mural dedicated to him in Ireland
I can't have respect fot Gadaffi knowing that he openly sponored terrorist atracks on Isreali athletes. I know its hard to judge him in black and white terms, but given his track record of sponoring rebel groups of neighbouring nations, i think he was only doing to weaken the UK. Now granted, many western nations are also responsible similar crimes, but with Ghadafi bring the sole dictator, he can be entirely responsible. I don't know man, i don't mean to jump down your throat, but its hard to find him admirable given that he had so much power over his local government and still resorted to voilent oppression. In Iraq, I know that Suddam Hussien had to keep a alot of competing ethnic groups and religions in check (though he was still detestable), but given this was less of an issue in Libiya and Ghadafi's insane local popularity after he cemented his power, he should not have had to resort to the voilence and oppresion to such an extent. And yeah its weird, i feel admiration towards his economic policy, his ablility to not be indebted to foreign influences and his vision of a more cooperative Africa that he legimately worked towards in an African way. But I think he had delusions of grandeur, and began putting his vision infront of human lifes. But what do I know, i just a rando on youtube.

As of Europe, check the actual stats. At first Gaddafi's death caused a turmoil, if I remember correctly 2015 or 2016 was the worst. Jeez ..I stayed glued on my laptop listening very attentively to every word being weaved by the narrator's voice...It is very sad as my generation witness time and time again the very nepotism of the western world towards Africa. It is a shame no African leader ever condemned the gruesome death of Col Ghaddaffi by the west...You can never have divergent opinions with your creditors. The west and America have become the chief creditors/dictators of Country Africa as they call it....What a shame What a shame. Africa shall Rise.........
I thoroughly appreciate the unbiased, brief yet thorough documentary of Gaddafi and the Libya situation. I pray for Libya to somehow against current odds get back its peace, stability and prosperity
What an amazing video! I cannot thank you enough for what you are doing with this channel. Africa's political history desperately needs an untainted look into the matter. I would love it if you covered Ethiopia in one of your videos as well... we are no short of controversial leaders.
WHAT?
I would he was simply a human that was not fit to lead the country of Libya.

Gaddafi bombed a plane over Scotland and shot a police woman using diplomatic immunity. He was unequivocally a terrorist for the UK.
rat thrower But is a plane over Scotland or a police woman worth the lives of all the Libyans that got caught in a civil war after his death?
Gaddafi was the only one able to make sure all of Libya didn’t go back to the Stone Age. Its a very unsustainable system, yes, but no one has given any better alternatives.
@@alexanderchristopher6237 maybe it's not, but the UK media was right to paint him as a mad tyrant whose death should be celebrated

GADDAFI’S LAST FORMAL SPEECH
“ In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful…
For 40 years, or was it longer, I can’t remember, I did all I could to give
people houses, hospitals, schools, and when they were hungry, I gave
them food. I even made Benghazi into farmland from the desert.
I stood up to attacks from that cowboy Ronald Reagan, when he killed
my adopted orphaned daughter, he was trying to kill me, instead he
killed that poor innocent child. Then I helped my brothers and sisters
from Africa with money for the African Union.
I DID ALL I COULD TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT
OF REAL DEMOCRACY, WHERE PEOPLE'S COMMITTEES RAN OUR
COUNTRY. But that was never enough, as some told me, even people
who had 10 room homes, new suits and furniture, were never satisfied,
as selfish as they were, they wanted more.
THEY TOLD AMERICANS AND OTHER VISITORS THAT THEY
NEEDED ‘DEMOCRACY’ AND ‘FREEDOM’, NEVER REALIZING IT
WAS A CUT THROAT SYSTEM, WHERE BIGGEST DOG EATS THE
REST. But they were enchanted with those words, never realizing that in
America there was no free medicine, no free hospitals, no free housing,
no free education, and no free food, except for when people had to
beg or go to long lines to get soup.
No, no matter what I did, it was never enough for some, but for others,
they knew I was the son of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the only true Arab and
Muslim leader we’ve had since Salah-al-Deen, when he claimed the Suez
Canal for his people, as I claimed Libya, for my people, it was his footsteps
I tried to follow - to keep my people free from colonial domination - from
thieves who would steal from us.
Now, I am under attack by the biggest force in military history, my little
African son, Obama wants to kill me, to take away the freedom of our
country, to take away our free housing, our free medicine, our free
education, our free food, and replace it with American style thievery,
called "capitalism".
But all of us in the Third World know what that means, it means corporations
run the countries, run the world, and the people suffer. So, there is no
alternative for me, I must make my stand, and if Allah wishes, I shall die by
following His path, the path that has made our country rich with farmland,
with food and health, and even allowed us to help our African and Arab
brothers and sisters.
I do not wish to die, but if it comes to that, to save this land, my people, all
the thousands who are all my children, then so be it. Let this testament be
my voice to the world, that I stood up to crusader attacks of NATO, stood up
to cruelty, stoop up to betrayal, stood up to the West and its colonialist
ambitions, and that I stood with my African brothers, my true Arab and
Muslim brothers, as a beacon of light.
When others were building castles, I lived in a modest house, and in a tent.
I never forgot my youth in Sirte, I did not spend our national treasury foolishly ,
and like Salah-al-Deen, our great Muslim leader, who rescued Jerusalem
for Islam, I took little for myself…
In the West, some have called me "mad", "crazy", but they know the truth,
yet continue to lie. They know that our land is independent and free, not in
the colonial grip, that my vision, my path is, and has been clear and for my
people and that I will fight to my last breath to keep us free, may Allah
almighty help us to remain faithful and free".

each other cause Europe America and other western world will never
want to see sunshine for Africans..”

That link to Gaddafi for international arms dealing combined with a number of their bombings with civilian victims really made it difficult for people who supported the civil rights and Republican cause back in the 1960s to continue supporting them. Especially after Lockerbie.

It's good to know the Western world is such an effective scapegoat that there's no liability for the negatives but plenty of praise for the things Gaddafi supposedly wanted to do.

I have a lot of respect for Gadaffi. He really wanted to improve the lives of Irish people who where being treated as second class citizens in a supposed “equal” democracy. Those who where involved in his cowardly death will be judged accordingly
Edit: There is a very famous mural dedicated to him in Ireland
