      I live in a small town where there is an overpass on a curve that is in a dip. There are several ways to avoid this way though town but this 18 wheeler tried to use that way. He got halfway under and then hit the underpass and was stuck. Out of nowhere truckers showed up with lawn chairs to watch this trucker look so embarrassed while they tried to get him out. Now my ex and best friend’s ex are truckers and without telling them where it was they knew exactly because they said every trucker passing through Tennessee knew about that underpass. They eventually let the air out of all his tires and drove it out but this took hours to accomplish.

    • @OFFGRID_Trucker
      @OFFGRID_Trucker Месяц назад +4

      I'm a trucker too. it takes COMMON SENSE with or without experience. A very twisty road like that NEEDS to be closed to any long vehicles. It's ALWAYS unsafe when you have to cross the center line on a BLIND corner. If 2 opposing vehicles can't pass on a corner.. It needs to be closed to them longer vehicles.

    • @roadcuda6964
      @roadcuda6964 Месяц назад +3

      Agreed. I drove Tractor trailer for 45 years. As soon as they showed where the front of the truck I knew the reason he went off the road. If he took that tractor to the other lane he most likely would have made that corner. I have to wonder if he had any training on this kind of rig.

      @@roadcuda6964 I live in Tennessee and understand that we have really curvy roads. I don’t understand why this guy didn’t do a little research before driving across the smoky mountains. My favorite movie song is the one from Smoky and the bandit about Monteagle mountain downgrade. I drive a little sports car and it scares me to hell when two 18 wheelers squeeze me between them on that downgrade. I live near that area so drive that interstate a lot. But yes I was married to a truck driver with experience and he could off the top of his head tell you problem area all over the different states because trucker talk to each other. Now this guy spoke a really strange language that I’m sure he doesn’t hear other truckers speak so a better reason to research a new route.

    One thing that bugs me. A 'Hotshot' driver works under the same D.O.T. rules. if I am reading the regulations correctly. One of the most concerning things is 'Commercial Drivers' that cannot speak the English Language. Under USDOT Sec. 391, "The FMCSA provides regulatory guidance concerning the applicability of the driver qualification requirement that interstate drivers must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public and respond to official inquiries to drivers who do not meet the Agency’s hearing standard." So a driver doing 'commercial' work that cannot communicate in the English language gives me concerns. - Otherwise, always great to see you doing a technical rescue.. ;)

      @TheCobruhAlienat0r Месяц назад +4

      I've heard since covid they've let the "be able to speak/read English" rule slide since the labor pool is so small due to low wages for that industry. There is a bridge in my city that is infamous for getting hit by commercial trucks that ignore the height warning sign and since covid it seems to happen more and more. I wonder if it's because the drivers can't read the signs.

    Hi Jeff, Kristen, Covin and Kendra. Another fantastic video. I’m gobsmacked that trailer had 3 heavy vehicles try and go up that high inclined road. I’ve those trailers in neighborhood but usually there’s a car or 2 or maybe an suv. Y’all wrenched all the vehicles with ease. Love watching your videos and getting to see beautiful parts of TN

    They're not.

    As a truck driver that has delivered to every Wal-Mart in the Smokies, I learned that you NEVER turn on a road you aren't certain you can clear. On many, once you turn, it's too late. And there are many many many with low clearance bridges. ALWAYS CHECK BEFORE YOU GO.

    What was he thinking? The steep grade sign should have given it away. It would have been cheaper and safer to drive all 3 of those vehicles up there. He managed to not only get on the rail but go over it and take out a light pole. How do you do that? Running in low gear, going around bends (watch your side buddy), and still gets all that weight from the trailer, dual axles, 2 trucks and an ambulance over a guard rail and take out a light pole. What an accomplishment. If there was an award for the most complicated and insane act of driving, he would win hands down. Jeff, you, your wife and your son are a crew not to mess with. Kudo's to all of you.

    Thats interesting. The ambulance is a FR Conversions ambulance with the FR Ambu-Box. Its modular so you can take off the whole box in 10 minutes and replace it with a new one so you dont have to spend time replenishing supplies. The box after its taken off will get cleaned and replenished for the next ambulance.

Looking forward to that visit and maybe get a chance to see a certain tow truck drive by. Thanks again for the videos.

    Hi Jeff, Kristen and Covin! Been keeping up with you these last few months after finding your channel, gradually catching up with the older ones! Love the way you handle things, not only the recoveries but some of the 'people' too! That was a bit of a gnarly one - great job by all! Been subscribed for a while now, but just 'joined' the channel as a member! Best wishes for Easter, from Buckinghamshire, UK!

    Where I live up in Canada they allow road crews and tow trucks to have flashing blue lights because nobody slows down or moves over for road workers or wreckers. Too many people were getting hit and dying. It's huge fines for not stopping or slowing down to pass. It makes me nervous seeing your older videos and people run over cones to pass. You almost need cones with tire popping spikes 😂. Maybe not. Be safe guys.

    Company's sometime only let driver fuel up and fuel truck stops assigned to company. Newbies rarely have say 50$ to 100$, on them. Some companies will give money to drivers for emergency. So this scene maybe telling TRUTH.

    Just a thought...
    At or about 26 minutes, it is heard, "I think we'll be okay without the wheels." Referring to the wheel chocks on the wrecker.
    Instead of putting them away or using them as designed, they are placed on the ground next to the wheels.
    My question is, since the chocks are out and ready, why not go ahead and chock your wheels again?
    This would remove any doubt "I think" from the equation.
    You'd no longer need to "think" it'd be okay but you'd be SURE it'll be okay.
    You already have them out and next to the wheels anyways.
    The key to safety is to always error on the safer side.
    The best way to clean up a mess or fix a mistake is to avoid the mess or mistake.
    EVERY little ounce of prevention is worth its weight in gold.
    Kudos on avoiding any ambulance damage.👍🏼
