I buy so many of Oxford's VSI books and I think I've read about 30 of them, but my favorite by far was the one on "Ancient Near East" written by Amanda Podany. I loved it so much, I bought the audiobook as well and I've listened to it like 3 times since (The narrator, Fajer Al-Kaisi, also is brilliant and adds to the book). Apart from being just about Ancient Near East, it was also about archaeology and its history as well and all of that inside that tiny book. I wonder how she could be so concise. Many VSI writers fail unfortunately. The book made me want to read a more in-depth book about the subject and lo and behold Mrs. Podany had written a book recently on the subject. It shattered all expectations; one of my favorite books ever. I was so happy when I saw you had interviewed her. Brilliant scholar.

It is very difficult for me to help someone understand what spirits and Gods meant to people back then. "It's a way for kings to control the masses". They believed this too, it's not just a tool.

Thank you so much for this fabulous interview. Her other book is as beautiful and if there chance to discuses it would be another glamours episode. There is a new novel released by Elif Shafak about Mesopotamia which got big praise. Mary beard made an interview with her just recently to talk about it in the British museum. it will be super cool to see her in your channel talking about it, since she is from that region and she is kind. do you have a podcast where these episode are released? I would love to follow it.
