A quiet night working at the basecamp working on a new bushcraft joinery project, a small camp table using mortise and tenon joinery. I made this little table, to use around the campsite, near the fire pit, or under the shelter. Bushcraft basecamp is one step closer to being a practical and fun campsite.
The small table would be ideal for putting items you usually keep on your person on, to clear your pockets. Knife, wallet, phone, small forest axe, saw, etc. Or a nice place to set your coffee during a meal under the lean to.
I made it by splitting down an old dried black cherry log that had been curing outdoors for over a year. I split it in half with my axe, then used an old bit and brace auger to drill out 3 holes in the bottom of the 1/2 round log. Using my saw, i scored a stop cut in each leg to help it fit tight at the joint.
The table turned out great. Not perfect, but very sturdy and a welcomed addition to the bushcraft camp. A skill learned and another quick video for everyone. I hope you all enjoy watching it as much as i did, making it.
Stay safe,
Scrambled O

Canadian bacon!(=
All of your videos are cool videos! Another instant classic
I'm Bacon Doctor, retired 2 years ago from Royal Navy, enthusiastic bushcrafter during vacations only. I've just joined your channel which is terrific! I love dry cure bacon. Yum! Super video btw. I loved it a lot as did Molly my daughter. Best, Wendi.
a trick everyone can do when doing joinery like this is to make a split on the end of the inserting rod, right down the middle, then put a small triangular shaped "expander" in the split of the inserting rod, and when it is rammed down in the receiving wood, it will create pressure and expand inside, thus ensuring even more stability rather than just friction.
Yes the wedge is good trick
Good morning to you all 🙌
For future use, try placing pegs around edge of you wood to be drilled to keep it from moving.
I'm so happy to have you back making videos so often. I appreciate them.
Thanks so much for watching. I really do very much appreciate all of you guys check in my videos out hope you like this one too
Just glad to have you back making videos again.... I don't see any thing wrong with your new piece of camp furniture! I can see a lot of possibilities for it. A stool, table, cutting board, crafting bench just to make a few. And it's great seeing you learning/ teaching new skills!
Keep doing what you do.
Keep breathing
Nice project!! That black cherry would make some pretty spoons!!!!
Pretty nice of the first time, keep up the good work
NOTHIN' wrong with that table, my guy. Fits the camp perfectly and makes for another cool upload. Well done, sir!

If you use the auger hole where the handle goes and a heavy mallet, it will make the perfect size peg to fit in the hole
Very nice job ,nothing wrong with it ,do not be so hard on yourself, greetings from Germany!
Yeah, I have some memories using one of those augers. Table looks great!

Very good job. 👌Greetings from the Czech republic😉👍🌲
Great little project. If those corners on the single leg side ever become unstable, just miter them at an angle to remove the leverage points.
That's a great idea! thanks man

Had this idea on my mind for a long time as well, never came from it. But now you inspered me again to start making it. Perfect for some spoon carving or to put my petromax pressure petroleum lamps on. Great video, just gave me a new project to work on.
Sweet table im gonna have to make me one
Good job 👍
Very neat! Nice bushcrafting.
Thanks 😊
Way to go bush craft O. Good Job looking forward to more videos . P.S. more cooking is needed.
Really cool table !! As its your idea to get your cooking area organised maybe add some protruding (idk the word :/) sticks where you hang cuttlery/pan/... small items that dont take op space on your working surface. That way you can cut/ prep food and have your essentials closeby hanging somewhere at a side of the table? IDK just an idea :D nice work! Love your video's !!
Nice job!
Love it well done
Good job brutha
I like it! I will have to make one when I get back to Base Camp!

Great stuff, thx as always.
Ps maybe you can do the 3 ingredient meal challenge on a fire or twig stove for Joe. Simon a bloke in the woods tagged him for it but the fire ban is prohibitive for old Joe right now.
