A7X foREVer I dunno man, Brooks has more interesting chops than Portnoy does, Portnoy is great and all, but isn't that spectacular outside of what he did with Dream Theater.
I'm not a fanatic of Portnoy either, but the guy is a monster. Let's be honest. Also Josh, you need to consider the time and sound they wanted to aim for. I freaking love Brooks, he blew my mind right away. But with time I realized that Portnoy was a perfect fit for the heavier sound they were looking for with Nightmare. Also one year after Rev's passing. Now, they were looking for this strange weird progressive sound and while ABLE TO DO IT, I don't think creativity wise Portnoy or any of the heavy hitters on metal would've been good for it. But that's just me talking, I don't know shit.
Mike doesnt count though. Since he was asked to record the album that the Rev had wrote. But the best drummer out of all 4 is: Mike Portnoy. His way of playing fast and melodic fits the song perfectly. His progressive style makes him that much better too. Then Brooks Wackerman. The guy is just a beast! He definitely fits Avenged style way better than Portnoy right now (although Portnoy would be better in a heavier yet somewhat progressive style, which they did not take). His creativeness shined through out The Stage. Then comes THE REV. I consider The Rev the best musician of them all, because he wrote amazing lyrics, had an amazing way of backing M. Shadows with his vocals, the singing while maintaining tempo. He probably is the most diverse of all 4 drummers. Arin comes last. Not because he sucks (because he doesnt). But because he never really made a difference. Even though I liked songs like Not Ready To Die, Carry On and Coming Home (all of which had great drumming) didnt make much difference. They sounded awesome but he should have maintained that level through out Hail to the King. I am aware that the other guys told him to play basic stuff.
this boy sat next to me in drivers edge los alamitos high school 1992. he would stare out into space and blow bubbles with his saliva. i was kinda retarded back then but I really thought he was worse. True story :)
Jimmy had the originality, Mike has the technical stuffs, Arin has a lot of chance to develop his drum-wisdom since he's the youngest among those four (glad, he's out so he can develop his drumming) while brooks got the creativity and solidness.
There are only four people who have ever lived who I would listen to play the drums with no other instruments for multiple hours straight, dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, the Rev, and Brooks fucking Wackerman.
Lol I feel like most of the people in the comments have no idea who Brook's family is. His brother is the legendary Chad Wackerman (one of the greatest Jazz/Fusion drummers of all time) and his father was an incredible drummer, as well. This guy comes from the drumming family of all drumming families. He's also studied with some of the greatest instructors of the 20th century when he was just a child. I love The Rev and Portnoy as much as the next guy (especially The Rev) but Brooks is acknowledged as being among the ranks legends such as Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, and Tony Royster Jr.
His family shouldnt affect how you veiw his drumming at all, hes a top class drummer but you say it like hes a top class drummer and because his family is also talented that in someway boosts his status which it doesnt, hes only as good as he is
@@hazardgaminghg122 ive heard every song they've made unfortuanlty they havnt done anything with that, could be compared to natural born killers i think thats what you're thinking
I love the drummer, but I don't think soloing is a strong suit for him. Now, it just might be me. I love me some good Bohnam and McBrain solos. But I love him drumming on songs. I just think he's a little too robotic to solo well.
thats what he is man, brooks is crazy technical & precise with his craft. i don't mind to think that he doesn't act crazy to show he enjoy what he is playing. he play like a robot machine, no emotions, just a fcking crazy beats. so unique
Honestly, Portnoy should have been their transition from the Rev. Nightmare has been their best album and his parts were spot on masterful. I am not a big fan of the Stage minus a few songs, (Sunny Disposition). It seems very soft to me in terms of their overall presence. Brooks is a damn good drummer, but not their best since the Rev. Portnoy was a stand in, but he would have taken them to something greater and just that next level.
Michael Campbell you know portnoys stuff on nightmare was the revs drums right? He took the demos and played them like the rev, just added in flair here or there
I did. Yet, the Rev laid the foundation and Portnoy added his touch, like the beginning to both Nightmare and Welcome to the Family were Portnoy. It was a solid combination and the stuff that Portnoy did with Dream Theatre combined with the direction that album was taking A7X, I believe Hail to the King would have been bigger than it is and this album would not have been so soft. Just think this album really set them back IMHO.
Best drummer they've had since the Rev.
And Portnoy...
A7X foREVer I dunno man, Brooks has more interesting chops than Portnoy does, Portnoy is great and all, but isn't that spectacular outside of what he did with Dream Theater.

I love Portnoy but it's overrated
It's gotta be fun to be that damn good.
NITESCIENTIST I'm pretty sure he was an influence to the rev
Matt Fortmuller eh somewhat. He’s only around 5 years older than the Rev so maybe a bit of an influence
@@38clonewars Brooks was still an inspiration to The Rev.
@@hazardgaminghg122 oh yeah! he was! I just stumbled across my comment after a year and forgot to correct it lol
this boy sat next to me in drivers edge los alamitos high school 1992. he would stare out into space and blow bubbles with his saliva. i was kinda retarded back then but I really thought he was worse. True story :)
this guys insane, instantly became my new favorite drummer
i think i've seen you on 3 videos before...
Check out infectious grooves
It's a supergroup with him in it
The best part is that The Rev used to look up to and get inspired from Brooks when Brooks used to play for Bad Religion!
1:45-1:54 that double bass pedal holy shit
Jimmy had the originality, Mike has the technical stuffs, Arin has a lot of chance to develop his drum-wisdom since he's the youngest among those four (glad, he's out so he can develop his drumming) while brooks got the creativity and solidness.
brooks is leaps and bounds more interesting to listen to than any other heavy music player of the last few decades
Damn. That War Pig part caught me off guard
Amirrudin Ismail Adlan Rahim IMO, guitarist butchered it. Lol
Caught Syn and Zacky off guard too.
I'm so dead 😂 Matt: *stands up* "Oh shit..."
Now Jimmy can finally rest in peace knowing the band finally has a decent drummer. Thank You Jesus Go Brooks Wackerman!!!
Kristen Collins Mike was amazing. But he doesnt count because he just recorded what the Rev demoed before
more then amazing*
decent? dude he's a beast
Are you sure you want to use decent maybe try amazingist I just made that a new word
That was the case when Portnoy was with them. This guy is more crisp than Portnoy but Portnoy is technically more talented.
"ah shit"
This is the best drummer this band will ever have.
True professional! Brooks you rock!
the most dangerous band on this planet!!!! avenged sevenfold
From the 26 second mark to the 40 second mark... THAT shows his true talent.
"Oh shit" 😂😂
at least this guy know how to do a blast beat
exactly what i had thought...
Best drummer this band have had bar none.
I loved him in Bad Religion. Been a fan since "The Process of Belief." I hiiiighly recommend it.
I'll check it out right now
Best drum solo after the rev
Brooks is seriously a god at drumming damn.
So... War Pigs confirmed as one of their covers on The Stage??? :-D
I hope not, especially after their paranoid cover. I mean I LOVE A7X and their covers, but that one was just bad.
There are a lot of great drummers like ringo that have created some really great drum fills a little bit simple to play but so hard to create
I can imagine The Rev just nodding his head in approval to this beast of a drummer
There are only four people who have ever lived who I would listen to play the drums with no other instruments for multiple hours straight, dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, the Rev, and Brooks fucking Wackerman.
brooks is really talented and one of my honorable mentions to drummers that influenced my playing, he's quite underrated though
One of his best solos in my opinion.
O cara toca muito!! foREVer.

they're the Wackermans for a reason. They wack shit really well.

Am I the only one who caught on to Angel of Death?
the best modern metal drummer ever
I'd love to see them do some punk again
Brooks your drum sound is very nice and good, the Rev must be very proud. You have your own characteristics and don't imitate previous drummers
The Rev's twin was found right now
0:41 that on a song would just be perfect
Right where you put that time stamp, to me it sounds like an Avenged Sevenfold song already but I can't think of the name.
@@hazardgaminghg122 ive heard every song they've made unfortuanlty they havnt done anything with that, could be compared to natural born killers i think thats what you're thinking
0:56 to 1:16 nice tribute to the professor and Buddy Rich.
The Rev was superb RIP But Brooks is a damn good on the skins🤘
Amazing!
Were you running or were you dragging?
i usually dislike metal drummers, but this one is a good catch nice job avenged sevenfold
biblical fucking beast
FANTASTIC !!!! 👏👏👏👏👍👍
Now this is My fucking tempo
A7X band that haved not a great drummer but the perfect drummer who sit in
Am
Azing
pixel count tells me it was 1950.....
1950-BC.
which means Brooks is a Time Traveller.
Brooks, Bad Religion misses you!!
What a fuckn beast! 🔥
Muito bom
Great perfection..
wait they did war pigs
That's what I call Bad 4 Good 😊🤔👍
that was cool a bit different from a lot of solos
Holy fook this guy is a beast

Go Brendan rock the shit out of those drums...lol awesome solo...reminds me of Step Brothers 😁
Honey Badger haha well go Dale!!! Jk tooo late
anyone know what song they start to play is at the end?
CHAD WOULD BE PROUD
He sounds like a grown up version of Neman from whiplash
We'll see on the next album....how he gonna make his parts.
I feel like the rev is living through his spirit
Which concerts are these from?
The rev tho
a new Rev
This guy has much quality, in Bed religion he showed all his potential now in a7x is different, the drums are not the main sound of the band
Brookszzzzzzzzzzzzzz
god
Just breaks out into War Pigs at the end.
360p By PowerDirector
Yes😉👍
He's so pro at drumming cause he's an OG PUNKER listen to him in bad religion.
Sick
I literally just saw you in the comment section of blend guitar WTF
Ohhhhhhh.. now I get why he left Bad Religion.
Jimmy the rev VS brook???
Brook winner
But the rev my favorit too 🤩

Agree. Portnoy technical and musical wise seems to narrow down a7x directions. But I guess they couldn't gel in on personal level.
he's technically better than the rev imo, but I don't really like his craft. I love jimmy's.
Ahmad Vawaid Sulthon Yeah i feel like Brooks is a better drummer but Jimmy is a better mucisian.
Brian M Brooks is better at drums but the Rev is better at creating music and writing songs, they really suffer without the rev.
Brooks is a technical machines, rev was a musician.
War pig✌
0:54 mike portnoy
Nice little nod to war pigs there
lol war pigs at the end if you know, you know
Next,Jhony christ sing solo 😂

No they're not.
