- Back in September 2023, Modern Drummer caught up with Brooks Wackerman while on the Avenged Sevenfold Life is But a Dream Tour. Brooks took us through his DW acrylic drums and gave us some insight into his practice and performance routines.

The Wackerman family are all monsters on drums. They're all great drummers. Plus, that album of The National is one of the best album of 2023.
Can you imagine what their household might have been like? I imagine all of the brothers were doing everything they could to bring the best out in each other’s playing.

Yes, the Wackerman is a family of great drummers. Brooks is the brother of John and Chad who are two great drummers and their father Chuck is also a drummer. A family of great drummers. 😊
He plays so musically and drum phrases are impeccable
Brooks was a gem for A7X, they're fit each other. really great musician A7X always looking forward and keep better and better

I believe that those are smaller hats that were custom made for him for the song. They look smaller than the ones in the other videos. At the very end you can see his drum tech coming to switch hats at the end of the song. I love that sound and I wanna know what it is

Bought the latest Avenged Sevenfold album after seeing a brooks playthrough video. Incredible record, and incredible drummer.
Bad Religion is my favorite band of all time but Brooks is just so much better than what they need.if somebody had to take over for the Rev I’m glad it’s Brooks.

You look at the Grey Race and you’re like meh it’s an ok “rock album”. Then The Process of Belief comes out and Brooks kills and Bad Religion is like a legit punk band again.

I use one of Brooks innovative percussion blue wood beater w/Tama speed cobra 910 pedal and combined with a aquarian nsuper kick2-and a remo woven patch,sounds really good,nice drum kit,on e brother plays jazz/fusion the other plays metal/punk but both nare amazing talented drummers.
I’m curious did Avenged Sevenfold not want any other Drummer but the rev to play and sing at the same time? Or was Brooke and Aaron not able to do it?
They probably don't have much of a singing voice. Rather it be while playing drums or not playing drums. The rev was a different animal. He didn't have to rely only on his drumming skills. Hell he had a backup plan in case a7x didn't work out . He had pinkly smooth. And he didn't have anything to do with the drums in that band. Vocals and keyboards

No way that's a 10 inch splash on that mini stack above his rack toms. There's a 10inch tom right next to it and the upside down splash is way bigger than that 10" tom. Thats probably a 12inch splash upside down ontop of a 14inch mini china stack.

Wish Istanbul would make that mega bell ride a permanent cymbal in their lineup.
Brooks uses Agops but Istanbul Mehmet makes a couple things that are approaching a big bell, they tend to encompass rock/metal a bit more than Agop.

John Bonham has known about plastic drums since 1973. Billy Cobham, since 1972. Check out Thomas Lang. The best in the world by 200 miles.

I knew he was the drummer for A7X but I had no idea he was endorsed by Innovative Percussion. I’ve always taken them as more of a drum corps and marching band stick company but that’s amazing he is. Strongly considering switching back to innovative now!

So happy for this dude. I know he had a career prior to a7x, but he seems so happy in this band. I also think his joining has re energized the band after a shit history of drummers
I love Brooks’ playing and his set ups. Just not a fan of acrylic drums in general. They sound dead to me and then most drummers will use two ply heads in them making them sound even more dead! But the aesthetics. Of them are super cool!

Reminds me of Danny Carey, even his voice hahahaha. Brooks is the man, we should all be watching him a lot more
So glad they got brooks. His capabilities are what a7x needs and is what makes a7x the band that they are. I didnt think that aaron kid fit in from the first time i herd him play the revs songs.. but i figured he might grow on me. But he never did. Then they released hail to the king and tho the album is full of good songs it dosnt hit a7x standards as far as i (a fan since 2005) was concerned. Was releived when they put out the stage. Brooks is the man

Istanbul cymbals are pulling ahead of the Big Three : Zildjian, Sabian, and Paiste. Except for the Byzance line AA Meinl sound like cheap trash cans. Sleep Token's drummer 2 has the best sounding cymbals I have ever heard in my life and he uses all Istanbul.

On the song NOBODY on the album recording, what is the effects cymbal on the upbeat after the word 'before' the lyrics go, Pirouette with divinity in a dance we've shared 'before'..
