    Few people realize how hard that probably was to play without those headphones. A7X doesn't use stage monitors, they use in-ear, so that kid had to basically play the whole song without clearly hearing himself or the band, and he still ripped it.

    • @IAmCjcj11
      @IAmCjcj11 8 лет назад +428

      Kyle Lawrence I'm actually cringing at the thought of having to play in front of so many people with a bunch of professionals, also probably members of one of his favorite bands without being able to hear myself. But damn, he pulled that shit off

    • @rustyshackleford4743
      @rustyshackleford4743 8 лет назад +158

      They had stage monitors at this show, or at least one he used. Trust me, he had some source to hear the band. I think they probably turned a monitor on once he didn't have the headphones on. But still a sketchy situation for sure. He did great too. When someone's hitting all the right pinch harmonics, that's usually a good sign lol

    • @1rblackman
      @1rblackman 7 лет назад +170

      Thanks for realizing Kyle. As Steve's dad, it's cringing to see some of the comments, but he was completely deaf onstage. It was also his first time ever playing live....

    • @vazoth
      @vazoth 7 лет назад +53

      Jayce Kritz The on-stage sound is entirely different than the sound in the audience since all of the main speakers are facing away from the band. Therefore, the performers need their own speakers to hear themselves. In combination with amplifiers, equalizer and a mixer it makes a complete stage monitor system, although most people refer to the speakers alone as stage monitors.
      However, many musicians use in-ear pieces, instead of individual speakers on stage. So did A7X here, which is why Steve got a pair of, unfortunately, loosely fit headphones. As soon as they dropped down, he could neither hear himself nor anyone else playing. At most he probably caught some fragments of the drums and the vocals, but that's about it.

    • @1rblackman
      @1rblackman 7 лет назад +90

      As Steve's dad, and being right on the floor against the stage watching, I knew as soon as I saw how loose the headphones were that he was in trouble. Once Shadows knocked them off and they got tangled in the whammy bar I was like 'oh no'....
      Thank you for your clear explanation. I know I'm biased, but this was also his first time EVER playing live, and being as he was deaf onstage I think he did a great job

      Robert Blackman Nice! So I read your responses on how he got up, did he make a sign to catch M. Shadows attention? I did that at Mayhem but wasn't "dark" enough so didn't get the opportunity.

    • @1rblackman
      @1rblackman 10 лет назад +49

      He was actually loud enough for Shadows to hear him. He was right against the stage, and he knew that they'd done something like this before at two of the ten times he'd seen the band, and Shadows called him up. It was completely unplanned....and an incredible experience for him. His only problem was when he lost the headphones, and he couldn't hear the rest of the band, so he was 'flying blind', but all in all, pretty good for his first time on stage! Thanks for watching, he's received a lot of love since this happened

    Man what a fucking awesome experience for this guy. Class act band. I was a huge A7X fan throughout middle school but sort of moved on to other stuff in high school. Started playing guitar in middle school as well but it was after my love for a7x was going down (not for bad reasons, I just started listening to other genres more) so I never sat down and learned any of their songs on guitar. Now in my 20s I'm going back and learning some of my favorites from them and the guitar parts are always so much fun to play and sound great! It is a dream of mine to be called up on stage to play with a band, so I am currently living vicariously through this guy lol. So glad to see the band being so kind, generous, and caring to/about their fans. This undoubtedly made this guy's whole year, maybe more. Glad to see a band doing this sort of thing. I was at this show and was shocked the band had the guts to bring up a fan on stage. It could have really gone off the rails but this guy did an amazing job considering how difficult it would be to fill in for a pro.

    You got balls steve. Hope to see you someday playing on stage with your own band that will be just as big as Avenged Sevenfold now.
