Watched this a few weeks ago, and I've noticed a huge change in my attitude. I searched high and low to find this video again so I can save it for future use or as a reminder for myself! You did an amazing job and this was one of the most impactful videos I've seen on RUclips. Thank you so much Owen. You are awesome.

really creative techniques for actually working through personal turmoil. this allows you to take responsibility for your own thoughts and empowers you to overcome them rather than looking to outside sources to place blame (media, upbringing, the universe, "disorders" etc) or to fix it all for us (medication, extensive therapy- distraction).
    thank you!

10 years ago I was using these sorts of techniques regularly. Over time I fell out of these ‘good habits’. A friend suggested I watch this video and I’m so glad to have been reminded of what I’ve been missing. And the really good part? My internal dialogue didn’t berate me; just said I was silly for missing out, and congratulated me on being open to making a positive change.

I just saw this video for the first time. I was looking for some effective ways to help a friend deal with her frustrating and sabotaging internal dialogue. Many years ago, I became a Certified Master Practitioner of NLP, but I have not used it much in all this time. I have had a few successes working with people, but I never took it off the ground professionally. And though I was even successful doing NLP on myself after a hit-and-run crash that put me in the hospital and anchored some real generalized terror on the road that rendered me unable to drive confidently, I have allowed this obstacle of lack of confidence to stop me all this time. It's never too late, so I can still tackle it . . . .but that's not what I'm writing about. Owen, I LOVE this video and will be using the points this afternoon with my friend. The video is precise, humorous, engaging, and I plan to watch more of your videos and visit your site. Thank you for what you do.

Then can you help me? I’ve been trying for three years to do what’s in the video, and I can’t make it happen. I don’t know HOW to perform the very first instruction, for instance: HOW to change an internal voice to sound different. He tells us to do that, and he never tells us HOW to do it. Please tell me how to do it - I wasn’t born knowing how, and he sounds as if he thinks everybody’s born knowing how & doesn’t need to be told how. I’ve been trying for three years. Please help.

This guy is really cool. I felt the intelligence right away. Lots of these coaches on the internet are not, well, if you know what i mean then you also don't say. They are real detractors from the genre, but this guy makes up for it all. Really helpful, you don't feel like you are being taken for a ride or subliminally denigrated. I won't name names, it's so obvious when you fall over one of them. yech.

It is comforting to know that everybody does this at times. it is important to note that stress makes your inner voice louder. The less stress you have, the more quiet the inner voice. The more quiet the inner voice, the better you become at being able to focus on actual physical tasks at hand.

Thanks , I will follow your advice. In my case I start with a internal dialog and quickly or at the same time I see a flash back wich finishes triggering the entire negative thinking . at the present time this core belief has been reduced. It took me 3 years to feel better but still last year or 2 years ago I could not control this negative thinking it turned into high anxiety , social phobia, hyper vigilance etc 24/ 7. I even had to ask for medication for a few months to my psychotherapist. I feel better but still a couple times a day I still encounter with negative core beliefs. I hope with npl I finish with negative thinking because at the end is evil , bad , crazy internal dialog and non real images or movies that we ourselves create in our heads but never put in practice in real world , is crazy how the human mind turns into from our internal thinking behavior.

  • @jasonwalton6755

Negative internal dialogue is down to outside influences - in the main. Ultimately, kids go 'off the rails' because of these influences and who they are 'influenced' by and communicate with. Think about kids that come from decent families but then end up taking hard drugs or choose a life of crime - simply put - they're led astray or go down the wrong path. Getting them back on track is a completely different conversation and certainly no easy task - achieving that is harder than one might think - but it is possible using dialogue and spoken therapy. PTSD as an example is similarly linked to an extent and that is much dependent on the severity. That said, using spoken therapy can and does bring people back but there are key differences so it's not a 'one size fits all'. In short - an individual could be brought back in a day, others weeks or months - in extreme cases perhaps even years too if their condition / experience is or was that severe.

Why would you want to mock yourself, we say negative things because we feel uncertain about situations. Who wants to be always right and confident in their actions, even more so content with the feeling of joy. I'm glad I feel doubt and self scrutiny at times, all apart of being human. I keep myself in check, and I feel like alot of times we're hard on ourselves because we know we can do better deep down. I think more and more NLP is just a means for people who don't really know themselves to cope with emotions they can't deal with. You can try and trick your brain but you can't run away from the truth of how you really feel about certain things.

Splendid stuff, Owen - thanks heaps. Funny story: I had turned on the captions so I could read along as I listened. I suspect this transcription is somewhat automated by YT because when you spoke the words "change the tense," the caption wrote it as "change the tents." How fitting, I'm throwing out all my old limiting tents and pitching brocaded silk tents from a distant beautiful land, probably the west of Ireland.

A few months ago when I really became aware of my negative thoughts/beliefs, I thought of repeating the thought or belief and adding "I remember when.".....{I used to think that way} or whatever the thought or belief was. As to say 'I used to think that way but I don't anymore' Would that work the same as the past tense that you mentioned? Thank you so much!

Amazing video, thanks. One question: is it possible to do it automatically? I mean, if we were talking about negative images, we could maybe do a swish and make the changa automatically. How could we do it with internal dialogue? I tried with a friend of mine, he has such a negative inner dialogue, then I ask him to imagine the voice coming from his big toe :D . It helped him a lot, but is not automatic, he has to stop and think about it, but sometimes he is busy working and he just forgets... Any tips about it would be wonderful. By the way, I'm reading your book with Bandler, just get started and I'm already liking! Thanks :) Regars from Brazil. o/
