You know Benjie, it looks like you had a great time with your friend,. The small fish are fun to catch too. Getting outdoors is the best therapy.
Watched this video last night and went out to that spot this morning. Was a slow morning but broke the skunk with a ray and a short hali. Used the LC 110 sexy smelt.
Dude was on fiyah! Dope
WOW....nice session Benji and Lawrance fantastic job guys. Thanks for the video.
Yeah those Luckycrafts are a love/hate relationship haha but can’t beat the bite when you get bit😎👌
CHUNG!!! Yes brotha, I still remember you caught like 3 legals in one session that one time??
See y’all down there one day soon!!
Another great, inspiring video🎣🎣🎣 . You guys did awesome out there.
Thanks for sharing and the tips!
Thanks so much Dwayne, I was doing my best to learn during this session as well. Lawrence is a very good fisherman.
Nice! Don't forget to set the hook!
For sure! Thanks for the comment and tight lines!
That water looks so calm
Yea, it's a pretty unique and forgiving stretch of sand as the area is protected by a break wall.
Sheeesh you guys killed it!
I always skunk fishing from the surf😂great catches tho seemed like a fun morning 🤙
Aww man we've all skunked, just stick with it and I have no doubt you'll be slaying in no time. Thanks for the comment brotha, tight lines and wishing you a terrific week!
Took me around 20 trips to the surf before I caught something. Don’t give up and catch some fish! 🐟👍
the last 2 seasons we have had amazing luck halibut fishing the bay from our 18 ft klamath but i love watching you n your friends get on the flatties from the surf! one day im gona try it thankyou for all the tips and tricks bro!
Crown that man!
flinging an LC off hurts...been there Benjie, and I blame you for the pain, you're the reason I use them lol
Would tying straight to braid be best for us new guys throwing $20 jerk baits?!?😅
haha oh man, so sorry. 😇 😂
Hey M V straight braid is def an option, I know plenty of guys that do this. But it's actually easier to break off if you're fishing in heavy structure like reefs and rocks as braid is like noodle with that kind of structure. But if you're fishing open water, it'll certainly be helpful in not breaking off and also offers increased sensitivity.
But yes, unfortunately if someone is fully committed and passionate about figuring out the jerk bait bite, lost lures is a part of the learning process. I certainly lost my fair share in the first couple years. I honestly don't lose too many now (the one I lost in this vid was I think the first or second one I lost this year...) but it can be tough.
Hi Benjie! Great video man! I always enjoy your positivity towards fishing, other people and life. I've skunked quite a few times the last few seasons but you inspire me to keep casting brother and I want to thank you for that. Hope we get to fish together one day soon so I can learn even more from you. Tight lines Benjie!
Hey there! Thanks so much for the kind words, really appreciate it. Fishing is one of those sports that can seem so easy looking at pictures or vids but the reality can be tough at first. I hope you're sticking with it and learning every time out. I have no doubt things will be awesome this upcoming summer! Tight lines.
@@BenjieKimFishing I'm so looking forward to it. Monica and I might go fishing on the New Del Mar in marina del ray Wednesday. Wish you could come brother
Good job Benjie always good to see you out there
Thanks Victor, appreciate you brother!!
Well I know what I’m doing tomorrow.. 🎣 Going LC or bust.. Thank you for another fun joyfully video.. 🤙🏽
Mike!!! Well, I'm getting to this comment "tomorrow" so hopefully you've been out there casting and getting bit!! Thank you so much for coming out over the weekend, always so good to hang out and spend a positive time out there. I think one of my favorite moments was seeing how stoked you were that Tyler hooked up. That to me is what it's all about brotha!
Looks like a good spot, i think i fished here a few times before. 🎣
LOL, bro....you drove me CRAZY with your vids from that one November.
fun video benjie. notice that beach is around me. no luck yet on the lucky craft but will keep grinding
Hey thanks so much Brandon. I have no doubt that you'll do well as long as you're out there trying to figure things out...whether that be with the LC or whatever else brings you confidence! Tight lines!
Wow You guys wade out to where you may need small craft warnings. Do you carry foot weights to feel secure or is it an over 180-200 lbs deal???
haha hi Ron!! I don't think we were actually out quite that far haha. But no, I don't use anything different than usual....just my stocking foot waders and Simms boots. Wishing you an amazing week sir!!
Just starting my lucky craft adventure. That area of Long Beach would look like a easy place to start
Hi Tom, welcome to the journey. For some, it happens quick, for others it takes time. I was the latter. Just do your best to refine your game each time out and as long as you stick with it, you'll reap rewards!
Wide open on the mini rugs.Good to know the numbers are up.Any recommendations for the Malibu to Ventura area let me know.I’m still working on getting my first surf Halibut
I'll be honest, I've barely spent any time up there. BUT from what I hear and understand, it can be fantastic at both and everything in between (minus mpa's of course haha).
was fishing there the other day and got stung by a stingray lol
Once my waders are here I’m going! Just down the street from me.
Great job!! 🗣️
hwaiting!
Lost a LC on Sunday after fishing it for like 3 hrs without re tying my leader. Lesson learned lol
Benjie don't know if you remember me from the last video's comments. I instead bought the metallic sardine, not cherry berry, hope it works!!!
Metallic Sardine is a tried and true and def works. Do your best to do your part with casting, retrieval/cadence, hunting structure, timing, etc. So many factors that determine a great day. But I sincerely believe if we work on our craft, all those other things will fall into place over time.
Tight lines!
I’m always there! Would’ve been dope to run into you guys! Great vid yo 🤙🏼
Awesome, please say hello if we ever cross paths! Tight lines!
@@BenjieKimFishing definitely will! Tight lines brotha 🤙🏼
Thanks for the great videos. I use the same rod as you, Trifecta 903. What knot are you using to connect braid to fluoro leader? Micro guides require a very slim profile knot to pass thru. Or are you using a short leader that stays outside the tip top. Thanks!!!
I use the RP knot...I know what you're saying about the micro guides...From what I understand the FG is the thinnest connection but I actually haven't had any issues with the RP and I'll oftentimes tie my leader all the way up to my spool. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the info and the quick response.
Cool video, those lucky craft lures seem to be awesome. Looks like you are fishing Belmont Pier beach area? I bet the lures would work real well in alamitos bay
I was trying it in Alamitos Bay and I got skunked 😮
Fishy day
Are you fishing out of Long Beach? What places do you suggest for beginners?
Few questions? Is there a better time of day for halibut from shore? Early morn or late evening? Is there a better tide? High or low tide? Finally how far are you casting? Im using a 1 oz and a swim bait and casting about 40-60 ft. But the seagrass and waves i figure im only casting into an area of 10-15 ft before its rough due to waves. Surf fishing for halibut is not all that easy im finding.
Yeah screw that on the ray.
Is that long beach?
What was Lawrence set up?
What’s the size and weight of lures you guys used ?
Cherry beach?
Where were you guys fishing at ?
Long Beach
What part of socal I live near santa barbara and the surf never that calm
Long Beach
Length and specs of that rod?
9’, 1/4 - 3/4, 6 - 12, ML
@@BenjieKimFishing I'm on the East coast and CA Halibut are seriously almost identical to the Summer Flounder(fluke) we get out here except bigger(they are both left eye flounder species).
Lookup the channel "cooking and fishing". These guys do incredible in the surf using a interesting technique with a 1/4 oz single jighead with a 6" white Gulp Jerk Shad. I'm wondering how that East coast technique would work for the West coast guys because I don't think anyone is using that specific setup out there. They have a really specific way of doing the retrieval and the theory behind why the big fish reaction strike to it.
@@BenjieKimFishing thanks bro!
Im trying to price things to start surf fishing. Hes using a $200 rod..... Ok, Ill pay for good quality. But that reel is $500..... does it also give me a handjob?
I had all my gear stolen Had to start over I didnt have what benji does but still havent got it replaced
$700 set up and 7lbs line is the ultimate setup. If you're poor just say you're poor. I have uses for my $200 reels and $500 rods, you're just not there yet
