This video is absolutely spot on in every detail. Thats the lens I would advise any videographer or photographer to buy first, I only go to 2.8 glass if im shooting natural light and need the extra stop in a wedding or similar. For how I shoot commercially, f4 is as open as I would like to go unless theres a specific artistic decision to incorporate bokeh into a scene or shot. Class video on my go to lens man 👏
All my ASMR videos are shot with it, except for the Christmas one and people DM me asking how did I shoot at f1.8 and still have loads in focus... because it was shot at f4 😅🤣😅
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Thinking of 16-35 or 20-70, but this classic seems way more versatile. Hope a Mark does not come out a month after I get one. lol
@@WarHorsesForVeterans of a mark ii does come out then the mark I would be far cheaper for you. The new lens they seem to be working on is a 24-70mm f2
Great lens. Highly underrated these days. I used it for a long time before replacing it with the 24-70 GM and now the 24-70 GM II.
I use it so often I haven't been able to justify getting the 24-70mm. Though those lenses have always been known for being really good
why replace?
@@BOTG_Adventures I replaced the 24-105 f4 G with the original 24-70 f2.8 GM. But, it was a heavy lens and I eventually replaced it with the 24-70 GM II which weighs about the same as the 24-105 G.
@@PhotoTrekr BUt why did you drop the 105 for the 70?
@@BOTG_Adventures Because I preferred the faster lenses. Sorry if that's not a good enough explanation for you. Shoot whatever you like.
I need the 24-105 Mark II
I'd like to see Sony make a mark ii 24-105mm but keep it at f4, add an aperture dial and make it a bit smaller
Naaa you need to go out n shoot 😅 so much great doc were shot with just that lens 😊
Spot on! So many people overlook this lens.
Subscribed 👍🏼
The 24-105 f4 is such a beauty. The best kitlens out there, and to be honest the word "kitlens" is so wrong with this one! It's my most used lens. Verry happy about it!
Exactly, it's such a disservice to the quality of the lens
Thanks Dufferz, I been looking at other lenses this morning to switch out to…… but after watching this and a few other videos I think I’ll stick with it……. Gonna get out n about around Liverpool today shoot somebimages to make sure……. Have not really given it much of a chance, only been shooting Sony 3 months coming in from fuji
Been using this lens since its launch… have been thinking of getting the lighter 20-70f4
Yeah if you need wider and don't need the range to 104mm that would be a great option. I haven't got trying it out yet
I have and it's vertualy bolted to my A9ii, it's absultly ideal travel lense . Ps it used to bolted on my A7Riii. In the past also taken primes as a backup, but never used the primes.
Thank you. I’ve owned the 24-105 for both my Canon and now Sony systems. It’s the first lens I buy on a new system to test out to make sure I want to invest more in it. Would like a Mark II version though. Take care.
The only one that competes this is the new 35-150mm lenses, I've had a chance to test the Tamron and Samyang recently
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Just concerned the lenses like the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 are bigger and heavier than II want. It ways more than my Sony 79-200/2.8;GM II.
great review
Great video Mark
Nice one thanks dude
thanks
I keep going back and forth in my head on this vs a 24-70 2.8 for film making outdoors... torn man. This makes more sense, especially as it has IS and extra reach
It is a tough one, I had considered those 35-150mm lenses but I'd miss being able to zoom out to 24 without having to change lenses to my Tamron 17-28mm.
@@MarkDuffyPhotography ive thought bout that one too lol
@themarksmanABP Might be worth while renting one for a gig and see on the gig what you think before buying
@@MarkDuffyPhotography hmmmm thanks for the inpu
Ive the Sigma Art 24-70 2.8 and unless I need the stop I always go with the 24-105 unless I need the light. It such a versatile lens. Photography and videography
I love mine and always find myself using it the most!
Great video. May I know your thoughts with the recently released lenses from Sony competing against the Sony 24-105/4. The Sony FE 20-70/4G, and the twin 16-25 and 24-50 F2.8 G
I own the 24/1.8, 35/1.4, 55/1.8 and the 85.14 and I am thinking I could use a zoom.
Thank you.
Me inscrevi porque me enganou.....rsrsrsrsrsrsr....acreditei que também gostava de café. Brincadeira....bons vídeos!
How does this guy only have 10k followers? I am sure he'll be at 1m in 1 year.
Really appreciate, even getting to 100k would be awesome. I don't think I'll ever get there, have felt like giving up on RUclips a few times this year
Great vid thanks! Subbed.
Nice one thanks I've a new video coming of my new studio
24-105G was never a cheap „kit“ lens. i used it 8 years on highres bodies since the A7R. Now the 20-70G is much sharper and faster and lighter.❤
Excellent lens. I have this but i also got the 20-70. Thats definitely a travel lens.
That's a nice range 20-70mm I'm guessing that's f2.8?
@@MarkDuffyPhotography it's an F4.
2.8 would be nice.
I agree in theory, I bought mine as the Canon version served me well for years. But I’m not convinced, it’s just not up to it outside the centre of the frame. For shoots in a controlled environment where changing lenses is easy, I use use various primes and the Tamron 70-180, all stopped down for the most part of course.
I didnt like the Tamron 70-180 at all, I found it to be very soft and ended up going for Sony 70-200m. I've never had an issue with sharpness and it is my primary lens for commercial. My landscapes are shot on Tamron 17-28mm as I like to shoot around 20mm
@@MarkDuffyPhotography I’m the other way around. I used the Sony for a few paid jobs, but avoid doing so now, I use the Tamron without hesitation. I never put too much belief in the idea of sample variation, but perhaps there’s something to it. Either that or I’m ‘seeing things’!😀
For mostly video work which one would you choose, Sony 24-105 f4 OSS vs new sigma 24-70 art mark 2 f2.8? btw I’m using a Sony zv-e1, thanks!! 🙌
Rokinon 35mm f1.8 is nice and cheap for what you're looking for.
I was considering it or the their f1.4 but it looks like quite a big lens. Samyang were supposed to send out their 35-150mm for me to test out but that fell through for some reason
You cant bring forward that stabilisation as a useful feature on this lens. Lowest possible stabilisation avaliable. Does it even work together with tHE cameas IBIS or are they working against each other? ;-) Exept for that - its a great lens. My edge sharpness (on the left sides) is not very high though.
I'm not a videographer so the stabilisation works well for photography. I haven't tested against my 70-200mm f2.8ii but I can and see for how well it works for video
what is the best alternative for this lens? Something which will the best for travel vlogs/photography?
Wondering the same, but I think there isn't. It's either a Sigma/Sony 24-70 F/2.8 or this lens. Tamron lenses aren't the sharpest out there, Sigma doesn't have the 28-105 range and lenses like 35-150 are not wide enough. Going on holidays and been wondering if I should buy this lens for my A7RV... But for 61MP it's not very sharp. Tough 1st world problems
Love my 24-105 - Are you sure this G lens is considered kit 🤔
Not so sure now as I think a cheaper lens is sold with cameras lately but when I got my A7iii, this was the kit lens
I have this lense and I use it with my a7iv, it's very good for taking pictures but NOT for video, the video is never sharp.
Really? I've never had that issue with mine. I love it for video, all of my ASMR reels are done with it and majority of my b-roll for reviews on RUclips too
@@MarkDuffyPhotography this is the only lense that I have that issue with :(
I have mine, and it not for indoor!
I mainly do hiking, been swappin glenses 16 - 25 and a 100 macro. Would this be a better replacement to me having to swap lens all the time. (video)
Do you shoot wider than 24mm often?
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Sometimes at 16 for land scapes but not when im walking about in them due to distortion. I think the 24-105 might suit me better though i do like the macro on the sony 100 so might keep that one and sell my 16-35 gm ii
@BOTG_Adventures the 24-105mm would suit you if you don't shoot any wider too often. It has a really decent close focusing. I use it loads for my product photography but I also have a macro lens if I need a macro shot which is only every so often
Ok so can I use this lense for videography? Podcast?
Yes of course
Wait, its a kit lens?
Did you not think it was?
It's a kit lens 😮😮😮.. really
Quite a few people are disputing this. If it isn't anymore, it definitely was when I switched to Sony and hence why I bought it as it cost hardly anything extra with the camera.
"Promosm" 🙂
