this helped a lot, my 99 civic is making the same noise noise but worse because i had to use it to go to work. but this gave me a lot of insight of what i should expect, and how i go along with the problems im going to find in my d16y engine.
Am glad it did. Keep in mind that depending on how bad your rod bearings are, if your crankshaft is shewed up by the bearings, this may be a temporary fix. My crankshaft was damaged, so what I did was smoothed out enough with sand paper, but it only lasted about 7 months and is knocking again this time am probably just gonna find a good used engine and swap them out. Good luck. 👍
I think I have a same issue. When the engine starts in first time I hear noise from the engine and then gone. And it goes again when I push the gas pedal into 2500 or 3000 RPM. After I watch this video, I am sure that my engine has rod knock and need to be fixed immediately. Thanks for sharing, sir.
I remember doing this on a tractor once and i haven't really been mechanically inclined to do things like this anymore. Long story short i have this same issues i believe i have a set of bearing in my tool box i will be doing this this past weekend
Great video. I would change the oil again incase bits are in the other parts of the engine. I think it will last a long time if the oil stays in the engine.
Finding good used honda d16y7 engines isn't so easy, at least in my area. May have to turn that crank down 0.10-0.20 on the rod journals, new oversize bearings and run it again.
Sorry about the late reply. The original cause for the bearing failure was low oil. Yes, it fixed the problem but only lasted about 8 months due to the fact that the crankshaft was damaged to begin with . As long as the crankshaft is good, it should last a long time. Thanks.
Is it still running? How many miles since you did this? I am currently doing this to my honda pilot. Did you use thicker oil? Mine calls for 5w-20 but thinking if running 10w-30. Since there is some ware on the rod pins.
Yes, still running its been about 4 months since I did the repair am not sure about how many miles probably around 5k my son daily drives the car, we're using 5w30, but my uncle when he had the car he was running 20w50 as recommended by his mechanic, maybe I should go back to 20w50 since there's more engine ware now.
No, you don't just remove exhaust that runs under the oil pan, remove the plate cover attached to the transmission, then all the bolts to the oil pan and use a 19mm socket to spin the engine when removing the bearings. ENGINE SPINS TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR.
Why don’t you just replace the crankshaft if the compression on cylinders are good. My mechanic said if the compression is still good on all cylinders you can just replace the crankshaft or take it to a machine shop if it’s not severally damaged and have it grinded. To much work? I know you said it messed up again after 8 months.
I mean, yeah, it is a lot of work, and a use crankshaft costs around $ 300 or more, which is almost as much as a use engine cost. So we'll see what happens. I'll probably drop a shorter video showing what it looks like the second time I already did the bearing again, and it runs, but probably not for very long.
Hi there, not sure if mine is rod knock or something to do with transmission. But it only do it's knocking when put in gear. But you can bearly hear it. If the aircon is on not possible to hear. She's been like this for so long driven about 30k kilometers and no change. It didn't gets louder it disappeares in some instances. You think it's a rod knock?
Yeah, since the crankshaft was too damaged when I did the repair. It only lasted about 8 months, and it's down again, and this time, we're looking into just replacing the engine But it ran well for about 8 months.
Thats pretty good for how much damage there was i feel like and its a honda so it wont be too expensive to change the engine hopefully. Thanks for the detailed video btw its probably gonna help me a lot if i decide to change mine. Currently have a problem of smoke coming out of my dipstick hole after an oil change for some reason. I really hope its not the rings but if it is ill change out the rod bearings as well :D@@oggarage3459

Did you happen to stall any ?
Thanks for making and posting this, I will probably have to do this and your detailed video will be extremely helpful.
You're welcome sir. I hope it helps you out and good luck.

Hello! Are the torque different for the Y8 motor becuase yours is the Y7 motor thanks!
Was the issue fix after your first week of new bearings, what caused the old bearing to wear out? GREAT vid my friend, awesome step by step process 👏

Thanks sir for that 🎉🎉🎉 people's are learn more knowledge 🎉
You're welcome.
How long did it last
They can move side to side. Form a wheel to wheel movement. What they can’t do is move up and down front the front bumper to the the back
nice content
Thanks, I am trying to make good videos but is hard sometimes.

Nice video OG!
Thanks, not the best, but if it helps, I am glad.
Is the rod bearing acl better than the factory?! Need help
Am not sure brother. I bought mine at O'Reilly.
So what fixed the problem? Was it the losse one or because it was bad
The rod bearings were bad worn-out due to low oil.
Where can I get the bearings to buy ?
I bought mine from O'Reilly. They're the standard size.

did youre engine have issues stalling while engaging the clutch prior to the repair? my d16y8 sounds identical to yours before fixing
No, but this one is an automatic.
@@oggarage3459did you have to torque the crank girdle/ bridge back down to get to the other 2 rod bearings?
Mine has just started to make this noise but it’s stalling! On another video someone repaired it and it was the Alternator 😩🚨‼️
Bro how did tou remove the top bearing of the main bearings with the crankshaft still in the car?
spin the crank by hand
@@trashboatjc do I have to remove any belts first?

Legit it’s fixed👍
Yes sir, it is.
Still running good?
@jeffkarr461 Yes, sir is a daily driver.still going
How long took you from start to finish?
4 or 5 hrs, maybe total. Am sure it takes less time if you're not making a video.
I really liked the 📹 🎥 📻 📸 thanks
Hey so i replaced my bearings with the new ones, but my engine wont crank. I tested with my hand but it just wouldn't move. Any ideas?
Did you put oversize bearings or standard bearings?
Standard
Hopefully you measured with Plastigauge? Sounds like oversized bearings went in or got over torqued. Something is binding up.
@ramirocastillo1452 yup, probably oversize bearings

You think it's a rod knock?
Maybe something else rod knock usually never goes away unless you fix it.
Right. Great video.
