- The auction car had a rod knock after finally getting it started. It was actually cheaper to fix it than the broken ignition! We replaced the rod bearings and made a quick how to video about it. At the end of the video you can still hear a quite knock, but as of today it seems to have smoothed out. Not sure what happened, but we'll take it! I failed at filming the re-install of the oil pan, and for that I apologize. Now that the Honda is running smoothly we detailed it and got it posted to sell. The proceeds will helps us on the next step of the Acura turbo build project. Keep an eye out for the motor removal of the Acura soon!

sounds like maybe the oil pump just needed to reprime itself when you first started it after the bearing swap but I have a garage here in pville KY and I couldn't tell you how many times these "patch" repairs on rod bearings saved my customers as well as myself so much time and money as well as labor and sweat . thank you sir for the upload and the effort. luckily every vehicle we have done this type of repair on has lasted a very very long time. we replaced bearings in a 95 Honda Accord five speed in 2009 and I am very happy to say that the car is actually still running today in 2022 . However, the crank scarring was less than a fingernail or cunthairs depth so it made for a very lucky fix. it's a waste of time and money to get one tore down and realize you have scars on the crank that catch your fingernail even after the sandpaper trick but I do have to say that I have even been fortunate enough before that I have replaced the rod bearings in a side by side with some ungodly scarring on the crank but somehow it has lasted for 13 months straight now. I suppose Lucas oil treatment is the culprit but either way I'm grateful because deer season is coming up fast and I can't wait to get back in my stand. I'll say this now and tomorrow it'll throw a rod 😒. my luck 😆. you fellers have a good evening there and again I thank you for the video upload. I love to watch these videos because I enjoy learning new hacks and ways of making my job easier. thank you guys. stay safe always
is it still running?
@@chipskylark5188 is what still running? The side by side or the Honda ? They both still run strong but the side by side is having some electrical problems.
Great comment cheers mate !
When a bigend bearing is that worn, the conrod usually goes oval, so the new bearings start knocking not long after.
We Enjoy watching your channel 👌 Great vibes , We definitely support big time 🥂😎
Thank you so much 🤗
good info in this video!!
Thank you! I tried my best to get it all on film in order to make it understandable.
Thanks Michael
Nice video. With that bad a conrod bearing, was the low oil pressure indicator lighting up? What you referred to as an oil pump is only the oil pickup tube.
Did you change d bearing on the Inside or do you leave it?
Good morning 🌄 nice video
Good morning to you as well. Thank you for stopping by!
Will this method work on a 2003 Honda accord
How long did this repair last?
My oil pump started going out and I started hearing light rod knock ,today I opened it up and found 1 rod with very little play wasn’t too bad it wasn’t knocking all the time or loud either but that was it swapped out new bearings just like this along with new pump ,, I have a question how long did this fix last is the car still running ?
It lasted for over a month before it was sold. Not sure of its current status.
i know video is old im having some weird noise i try adjustmenting valves noise still there maybe I'm doing it wrong so i try to check my bearings too but they dont have play up and down just a little bit play side to side number 4 has a little more play than the ohers
Probably the rod bearing if it sounds like the sound you hear while driving /accelerate
Would i be able ti get a new cranksahft from the junkyard and slap it in my motor or would i need to replace main bearing ?
You would need to replace all bearings.
Did you have to use undersized and/or oversized bearings, if so how did you know what size to use? Thanks!
In this instance, I just went back to stock size. It's a bandaid fix, but will save you some time while getting money together to fix it correctly.
@@ExoAutoWorksVlogs would a rebuild kit fix the problem like new pistons and bearings and timing chain stuff like that?
@@memesyandhorrorshorts you definitely want to send the crank to the machine shop in order for them to inspect it and polish it if it is saveable. They would give you the clearance for the bearings as well. So long as the pistons weren't damaged you would be able to reuse them, you would want to replace the rings of course since you had them out.
What was this honda civic? 1.7 liter engine?
does this fix it permanently or it all just depends on what it’s knocking from?
It depends on how bad the damage is. If the bearings are effed but the crank is clean, you got lucky. New bearings and send it. If the crank is scratched but your fingernail doesn't catch the scratch, bearing replacement will work with some luck. If the scratches on the crank catches on your fingernail, motor needs to come out and crank machined or replaced.
How do you measure clearance for bearings and where do you measure? I need to do a repair on my own car but I hear you need to measure some sort of clearance? Need to get the right size bearings. Any help would be greatly appreciated 👍🏼 great work
plasi gauges are your best shot pretty simple to use as well
Don't you need to measure the crank before replacing the bearings?
On a real fix, yes. We just were doing a band aid fix and went with stock clearance bearings.
How much does this usually cost to repair ????
$50-$80
I have a D16y8
Never ‘sand’ the crank like this. If it’s enough damage to catch on a fingernail, get a new crank. This will be knocking its tits off soon after new bearings.
