    this helped a lot, my 99 civic is making the same noise noise but worse because i had to use it to go to work. but this gave me a lot of insight of what i should expect, and how i go along with the problems im going to find in my d16y engine.

      Am glad it did. Keep in mind that depending on how bad your rod bearings are, if your crankshaft is shewed up by the bearings, this may be a temporary fix. My crankshaft was damaged, so what I did was smoothed out enough with sand paper, but it only lasted about 7 months and is knocking again this time am probably just gonna find a good used engine and swap them out. Good luck. 👍

    I think I have a same issue. When the engine starts in first time I hear noise from the engine and then gone. And it goes again when I push the gas pedal into 2500 or 3000 RPM. After I watch this video, I am sure that my engine has rod knock and need to be fixed immediately. Thanks for sharing, sir.

    Was the issue fix after your first week of new bearings, what caused the old bearing to wear out? GREAT vid my friend, awesome step by step process 👏

      Sorry about the late reply. The original cause for the bearing failure was low oil. Yes, it fixed the problem but only lasted about 8 months due to the fact that the crankshaft was damaged to begin with . As long as the crankshaft is good, it should last a long time. Thanks.

    I remember doing this on a tractor once and i haven't really been mechanically inclined to do things like this anymore. Long story short i have this same issues i believe i have a set of bearing in my tool box i will be doing this this past weekend

    Great video. I would change the oil again incase bits are in the other parts of the engine. I think it will last a long time if the oil stays in the engine.

    • @oggarage3459

      No, you don't just remove exhaust that runs under the oil pan, remove the plate cover attached to the transmission, then all the bolts to the oil pan and use a 19mm socket to spin the engine when removing the bearings. ENGINE SPINS TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR.

      You did a fantastic job filming this peice. Congrats, someone really needed to film this procedure for people to see. It's the correct way to save an engine. Gas stations use to make tons of cash. Charging people for rebuilding their engine when all it is. Is this!!

    Is it still running? How many miles since you did this? I am currently doing this to my honda pilot. Did you use thicker oil? Mine calls for 5w-20 but thinking if running 10w-30. Since there is some ware on the rod pins.

    • @oggarage3459
      @oggarage3459  Год назад +1

      Yes, still running its been about 4 months since I did the repair am not sure about how many miles probably around 5k my son daily drives the car, we're using 5w30, but my uncle when he had the car he was running 20w50 as recommended by his mechanic, maybe I should go back to 20w50 since there's more engine ware now.

    Finding good used honda d16y7 engines isn't so easy, at least in my area. May have to turn that crank down 0.10-0.20 on the rod journals, new oversize bearings and run it again.

    But you can bearly hear it. If the aircon is on not possible to hear. She's been like this for so long driven about 30k kilometers and no change. It didn't gets louder it disappeares in some instances.

    Why don’t you just replace the crankshaft if the compression on cylinders are good. My mechanic said if the compression is still good on all cylinders you can just replace the crankshaft or take it to a machine shop if it’s not severally damaged and have it grinded. To much work? I know you said it messed up again after 8 months.

    • @oggarage3459
      @oggarage3459  9 месяцев назад +2

      I mean, yeah, it is a lot of work, and a use crankshaft costs around $ 300 or more, which is almost as much as a use engine cost. So we'll see what happens. I'll probably drop a shorter video showing what it looks like the second time I already did the bearing again, and it runs, but probably not for very long.

Thanks for the detailed video btw its probably gonna help me a lot if i decide to change mine. Currently have a problem of smoke coming out of my dipstick hole after an oil change for some reason.
