The Phantom 4 Pro is still the king of drones, at least the portable ones. I wanted to see what I was missing out when using the Mavic Pro. It's a tough call to make, but with the v2.0 update, the only objection I had to the P4 Pro has been removed: the lack of OcuSync.
You'll have to decide on image quality over portability because everything else is so close. I especially like the remote with the screen, which used to be called the phantom 4 pro +. It's fast and easy, no wires to do deal with or dying iPhone batteries to worry about.

Excellent review and love the detail you’ve gone into the noise and dynamic range tests.
Very nice video comparison here. You always go into great detail and show the results. Thank you
Awesome review, hope to see more reviews in the future!
You're definitely one of the better reviewers on RUclips. The attention to detail is spot on.
Great video matt, keep them coming.
Nice comparison. Thanks!
Love your knowledge! I hope you’re a part of the new drone! They need your input!
Great video very detailed
If I was DJI, you would be my go to guy! Keep up the good work!!!
As always MATT YOU ROCK!
glad you like it, more coming soon!
nice shots!
Well done sir.
Amazing attention to detail! I haven't seen any Tubers take video to this level of detail
Sean Corcoran glad you liked it Sean. Thanks!
Sean Corcoran I took care of it. Thanks man.
Sean C. My thoughts exactly, very well made
Yes
Hi, great video. Can you give us a comparison video of the Phantom 4 V2 vs Mavic Pro 2?
I really hope you will release dedicated noise profiles once the Mavic II is released too. I'm using them on my mavic now and they help a lot, great work
Thank you so much. I'm glad they are helping so many people. The Mavic Pro II is the most excited I've been for a piece of gear in a long time. Especially from the rumors I hear about it.
Nice comparison video Matt! Thanks.
Thanks, buddy! Hope you're well.
I'm very well. You look well, no need to ask ;) Wedding tutorials rolling out anytime soon?
My beard was manly! Pacey made me shave it. 😞 - Lots of different stuff coming.
Haha. I'm sure she means well. Cheers.
this music + chaps voice = Lets all close our eyes and enter a state of trance :P
I’ve gotten my Mavic Pro for a couple of months ago. But I can’t find the right settings to my main controller to make the footage smoother. How’s your sensitivity settings?
There’s been a lot of posts on how flawed the D-Log profile on the Phantoms are compared to D-Cinelike.
I’ve got the phantom 4pro V 2 and from my experience the Occusync is definitely an improvement and image transmission.
I’m just getting into video processing. Your thoughts between the two- aside from the larger dynamic range?
What I’ve read is D-log just crushes the Highlights and shadows, making it nearly impossible to get a clean white or blacks in post.
But I have very little experience with this and like to hear what you think.
Do you use the same -1,-1,-1 for d-cinelike? And does this lut and noise profiles works if I film d-log in 4k 50?
the first background music is so peace.can u please tell me what name is it?
Hi Matt! I love the technicality and clarity of your videos. I have been doing landscape photography for many years and I am getting excited making landscape videos with a photographic approach. However, I have very little video experience and several doubts. I just bought a Mavic 2 pro after a good start with the Spark and I love the color grading in Resolve. Speaking of fps I see that your choice is always 24. If I take some shots at 60fps (2.7k on M2P) to slow them down in post I should leave them at exactly 40% to give exactly 24fps or any number between 40% and 100% would work well for render? Finally, for this type of landscape footage (which will not be mixed with clips from other cameras) do you think there's still a relevant difference shooting at 24 or 30fps? Thanks again for your help!
Sorry, one more thing: in your opinion is it relevant to try to maintain a shutter speed that doubles the fps when filming with the drone or according to your experience it does not have a big impact? Thank you!
On the Phantom 4pro what is the highest acceptable ISO you would use for shooting indoors? And have it still look good?
Thank you for making this video! I currently use a Mavic Air with your custom LUT and I can say that it really does help with image quality, including the noise profiles. Interested in a Mavic Air vs Phantom 4 Pro 2.0 video. The portability of the Air cannot be beaten, but I know I am sacrificing image quality with a small sensor, range, and flight time. I primarily record weddings, so quality is important, but I'm also a one man team and I have literally brought the Air with me in my pocket before in a pinch.
If your films have only one or two shots from a drone then I'd go with portability over quality. If you're doing films that are 40% or more drone-heavy, or you don't need the portability then I'd side on quality. It's a tradeoff but really, all of the new 4k drones look nice.
The Film Poets thank you I agree! At most there are 4 or 5 quick drone shots showing setting or other aerial views. I am a huge fan of your work and would be honored if you would critique one of my wedding videos.
I just got my Mavic Pro 2, you planning on evaluating it? You get super technical with your evaluations, it's awesome!
Testing it now!
yes!! cant wait!
Please include some stills - p4p vs m2pro - also, really terrific review above - well considered, insightful, no screaming or bs - thanks!
Hey friend! Great video! So I purchased this drone to help the work load that my mavic pro has been handling. Like you said, the mavic has much better transmission range as I never have video drop outs. The P4P Obsidian drops out more often then desired. Would the transmission issue be corrected by returning the Obsidian and getting the version 2.0?? Please help! Thanks!!
yes the 2.0 version would have much better transmission. I'd go for that one if you have the budget for the upgrade.
Nice Video 👍 Could you do a Video with Mavic Pro with youre Settings?
Thanks. I did a Mavic Pro video here - ruclips.net/video/r2m5FpaOpJ8/видео.html

Quick question, are you testing the mavic pro 2? 😉 thanks 🙏. Love your you tubes vids!!
If I were, I wouldn't be at liberty to say....
What stop ND do you usually use with this?
I tried your technique and even bought your LUT to shoot in DLOG, and I still prefer the none, none settings in picture profile and color. Maybe i just suck but I cant seem to get LOG to look good on this drone
Hi,
I have a problem with my drone footage that is killing me.
I get moire in some locations of the footage and in some cases, pulsating spots together with the moire.
My drone is P4 Pro. I shot in mp4, 30fps with 1/60 and when I edit I interpret the footage to 23,976 and export in the same fps.
Color profile: D-Cinelike with -1 -3 -2
I use polarized 16 Nd filter from Polarpro. Most of the time aperture is around f/5.0 or higher depending on the fluctuations of the sun/clouds
I read that p4pro is great at f/2.8 - f/4.0. Should I use a darker ND filter to get that aperture? It will help?
Also in fast moving shots I get jerky movement in the corners.. not smooth as the drone is making faster position changes.
Should I forget the "double the framerate" rule and increase the shutterspeed?
Or I have this problem because I shoot in 30fps instead of 24?
At 3:50 you mentioned you gave up using ND Filters on the Mavic Pro. Does this mean you are just setting the ISO to lowest possible and adjusting the shutter to get proper exposure?
exactly. that's the way nearly every wedding filmmaker exposes. Not saying it's the best way, but for me the convenience and speed of using the shutter to expose at an event is worth more keeping a 180 degree shutter. Epsically becasue the look doesn't really show up unless there is fast movement.
Great and informative video!! Will the birds hit the drone when you are flying your drone towards crowds of birds in the sky? (That footage of birds flying towards the camera looks insanely sick btw)
I've never had a bird hit a drone. I wouldn't go looking for them, but if they fly up towards you they are usually smart enough to move. They never bump into one another either now that I think of it. Now a jet going 600mph, that's a different story.
Thanks for the reply!
I love your calm speaking voice and presence...no homo lol
Awesome! How did you get a top handle onto your ronin grip?
That's the SmallRig nato rail with top handle. Just attached it to the top mounting points. - amzn.to/2s64El8
Do you need to do +1 sharpening for the phantom 4 pro like the magic pro? To help with the noise correction like on the magic pro?
That problem is unique to the Mavic Pro.
'I have a Lut more coming soon..' aaahh
Hey! Are you filmming in low light with d-log or other profile? If other profile, which settings you use there? If d-log, do you have lut for low light like you did for mavic pro?
Andris Koemecs Dlog is locked at iso 500, so I go to d-cinelike for high iso.
Do you use the same -1,-1,-1 for d-cinelike? And does this lut and noise profiles works if I film in 4k 50?
what was the price difrance??
I bought from you all for my mavic pro (noise profiles, d-log luts). Will it work with Phantom 4 Pro + or they are different?
Everything is totally different. The LUT is somewhat similar, but the noise profiles are unique. Thanks -Matt
Thanks for this guide! Is 4k24 sharper than 4k30 for the p4p by any chance?
The same from what I can tell. Thanks!
The Film Poets Awesome, good to know since I usually shoot at 30p then slow down in post to eliminate unexpected stutters midflight. Bought the LUT as well. Can’t wait to try it out!
Yes thats a great method to use. Enjoy!
Hello, If I was to buy the Phantom 4 Pro LUT, how easy is it to install in Final Cut Pro?
Super easy. You just load the fcpx Custom Lut effect, and add it inside of the folder.
I wonder if the Phantom 4 Pro's D-Log has more distortion than it's standard profile mode?
no, both modes are the same. only M2p can't correct for distortion in dlog-M.
Which settings for d cine like do you recommend? At the moment i use -3 -2 -1. Is this okay? (for the max. dyanmic range in d cine like)
yes that should look nice. I don't like -3 sharpening, but that's preference.
what would do use for sharpening? -1?
Yea -1 seems to be the sweet spot to me.
Could you please do a complete comparison between phantom 4 pro vs mavic 2 pro ?
Themiya Meemaduma id like to compare image quality for sure.
Looking forward to it
Do you have any weddings you've done with the mavic pro an up link so I can show someone I was having an argument with stating you can't do a good wedding with mavic Pro you have to have something like the Phantom 4..
muzikmon2267 I’ve been using the Mavic Pro for weddings for about a year. It needs proper processing but my brides are very happy,

The Film Poets
Awesome I'll be watching the videos I always tell everybody it's not necessarily how great the camera is how good the Drone pilot and how he processes the film pre and post..
The Film Poets
I don't know if there's any drone on the market that doesn't need post processing for videos and pictures..
Yea, and for me and a lot of event style shooters it's either a small drone or no drone in some situations. That's where the Mavic really comes in handy.
Off topic but I think you or someone else could answer for me.
I have the Phantom 4 pro v2 but photos are awful only 39k thumbnail size. I've loaded in lightroom or photoshop the same.
What the heck is wrong???
I'm not too sure, but you're either not getting the full res photos that were taken and downloading just the thumbs, or you have small jpeg photo size selected. Shoot raw and dump the files from the ssd card.
Is your LUT free
It's only $9, cheaper than DJI's carrying bag for the battery. Plus it helps me to make other videos for you.
So cutee
how is your phantom black?
this is the obsidian version that they released. Not sure if it's still available though.
I see you use Ronin with a a Canon camera(1dx2). I use almost same set up. Get a Samsung S4 with interchangeable battery and DSLR controller app instead of the screen and will make your life much easier. You will never have to touch the camera and the app pops up in 1 sec once you turn on the camera(Connected with USB cable to the phone). I use my Ronin/Canon combination most of the wedding, for about 2-3 years now and I would never go back to a regular screen. Keep up the good work!!
Mari Harsan Studios great tip. Right now I’m using WiFi adapter and an iPhone + another screen, the 501hd. So you’re saying that the 1dxii will connect to the Samsung s4 over USB?! That’d get rid of the lag I have over WiFi right now with the iPhone.
Yes it works. Check out the devices here. dslrcontroller.com/devices.php. Is still a very small lag but barely noticeable. The advantage vs the wifi is fast start up time when you turn the camera on. And a lot of time you need it when on the run. If is connected, it opens the app automatically and it take 1-2 sec. Also you will need only one device to see and control the camera. Do some testing before do an actual event to get used to it and see if you like it. I love the set up.
Sorry the Samsung is S5 on my Ronin. I use an S4 with my Crane 2. Get the S5 to be able to change battery. Buy 1-2 extra batteries. I use about 2 on a 12-16 h day. You can get a cheep Samsung S5 here:

Tape the cables connection so they don't unplug or get loose and buy some extra cables. I always keep a set for backup.
Good luck!!
Mari Harsan Studios thank you! Can’t believe I didn’t consider a galaxy. I’m blinded by my apply fanboyism.
I'm all apple except for this:) They don't have this app for apple and is worth buying a phone just for that
Why not Inspire 2 ?
Of course the Inspire is about as good a it gets, but the size / quality ratio hits a diminishing return after the Phantom, especially for event guys. I personally don't consider it an option but I do know a few guys who use them and are happy.
Phantom
Great video, I would love you to take a look at meteora on my channel and give me a quick assessment on the picture quality, 2 mins of your time would really be appreciated.
post the link
ruclips.net/video/sYzqgAJuqN4/видео.html
It's looking pretty good. Nice shooting too. I don't like that its 30fps, it feels cheap to me. Try shooting in 24fps to see which you prefer. Nice work!
The Film Poets thanks I will try the 24fps. Topman 👍🏻
I'm new to filming and just learning. Why the lower fps? Wouldn't 60fps be best?
A little misleading saying there is a 2.0 review...
Sorry about that. The review wouldn't be any different since image quality/sensor are all unchanged and my one quibble with the p4 Pro was fixed with the 2.0 update. I own drones with and without OcuSync so I'm actually glad to know that it's worth buying the 2.0 over the older version, even at a used discount price I'd still spring for the 2.0.
nyesel gua beli mavic?tapi ga ada duit mau gimana lagi
