This review is hilarious, and you captured everything I love and lovehate about this game. Fucking awesome. Great sense of humor, here - fitting to the silly humor of the game.
That game scared the shit out of me when I was like 8 years old. Remember the woman you ask if you could help her? She said that no one could help her, turns to your character , your character screams in scare and you are dead.
I ran out of my room when that happened and for a long time I always scared myself about what the woman have to look like. I mean... the look at her face KILLS you. Holy shit!
I was probably too old when this game came out - most of my terrors had come from the first 5 games - and I it took me a few years to warm to the new style.
What got me though is dying after the ghoul kids catch you in their house, I always had to wonder just what they did to you. Course knowing Valanice, she probably dies from mild indignity, I'm surprised she doesn't keel over when the Jackalope blows a raspberry.
Even after so many years, without fail, whenever I’m reading a book and there’s a cooking scene, the troll chef theme is sure to pop into my head

This game was very cutting edge for it's time. The sound doesn't cut out like that in the original CD version, just on the Collection version. Also Valanice and Rosella pass each other in the forest with the werewolf but don't know it. Archduke Fifi le Yipyap tells Rosella they let her mother go and they like her now (while Rosella is still in Chapter 4). This review is awesome though haha thanks for making it!! (:

I think this was the second King's Quest game I ever played. I started with KQ5, then KQ7, then KQ6 and backwards. They are all awesome, but this one holds a special place in my heart because of how whimsical it is.
I always watch other videos but then I'm like: Holy crap Scarfulhu! And I watch an episode and enjoy it more than anything else I watch that day. Thanks for having such great videos man!
I actually did animation for this. My 15 minutes of fame...so to speak. Sadly it began and ended my animation career. My proudest moments was drawing the poodle and whatever-type-of-mammal-the-arresting-guard-is arresting the mother with the cheese (moon?) and the tree that transforms into the girl (and the kiss that follows). Mostly I did lots of walk cycles and other drudgery. I also anmated the princess as a troll a lot.
My wife and I played this tonight and we want to both thank you for your great work on this game!
Kings Quest VII kind of formed my creativity and fantasy as a child. It is lasting to the present moment, where I am 21. I played this SO often as a child, its hilarious, and built my own worlds with Kings Quest, Torin, and Monkey Island 3 as inspirations. Love it through the eyes of a child, and dont want to judge it for its bads :D
I swear to god 50% of the time playing this game is walking back and forth trying to find the moment where the dog in the house isn't barking.

Did you know that the people who animated the cutscenes in this game are the same people who also did the cutscenes in the Zelda CDI games?

they were also supposed to make animations for a warcraft game but blizzard canned that.

Maybe you can help me with 2 games i cant seem to remember the name off.
Both of them were point and click adventures in a cartoon like game (with voice acting) around 1992-1998
One of them was about a space hero who accidently got a evil guy out of prision and he went to earth and you needed to bring him back.
The other one was some brown haired detective with a red jacket that was trying to solve a mistery a vague memory i have was that i gave a burger to a homesless man who let me inside his cardboard box which was a huge mansion on the inside.
I know its not alot to go on but hopefully u know what games im talking about thanks!:D

Somehow i missed this one until now. King's Quest VII is by far, if not one of my favourite 90's games, certainly one of my most nostalgiac. I hope to do a video on this one myself one day. Great work. I think you conveyed the attitude and presentation of this game really well!
I like Offie the troll too....and he doesn't die or get killed off (like one of the characters in Phantasmagoria 2 does). Offie goes on to bigger and better things just like he always wanted to do. :)

I finally got round to playing and beating this game and I have to say as a kings quest fan who got into this series pretty late I actually really like this game.
It was pretty hilarious to see the bad animation, the poor audio mixing.
As bad as Animation Magic is with this game and Zelda cdi games I have to give them kudo points for making some really lovely backgrounds for a old PC game of 1994 with compression included.
I welcome the easier difficulty at least its not down to modern telltale levels of casual easy but the challenge is pretty well done like the 2015 reboot.
I love the characters in this game, the two blacksmith trolls, malicia, arch duke, the kangaroo rat (tradesman), everysingle F***ing character in ooga booga land, the fates, king ottar III.
I like some of these character's personalities, their voices and their design even though the animation is really bad their charm does shine through.
I cant get my laptop to play KQ8 because my windows 10 or whatever is too good, I've played seriously bad games and completed them so I dont think KQ8 will piss me off.
the cheese was the warehouse 9 version of the football ping thing from warehouse 13 and if you got that, good for you, you know good cheesy tv shows

Well I just did Phantasmagoria, and I do want to do a Space Quest game at some point. We'll just have to see what happens.

Although KQ8 is rightly recognised as the dud, I always felt that with KQ7 they realised the "golden era" of adventure games was ending and were desperately trying to adapt and pitch the KQ franchise to a new market. For much of this game, with the young-girls-friendly, OTT Disney-esque approach, it feels quite unrelated to the previous KQ games.
Personally I've always felt that it would have actually made a very decent game in it's own right, if it hadn't had been a KQ (which could have easily been done with a few minor character changes); it felt to much of a departure and welded on to the franchise and this worked against it (tho compared to KQ8 ....!!)
BTW first review of yours I've watched Scarfulhu, great channel, I've just subscribed :)

This was glorious, and it made me proud to own a scarf.
I've never known how to feel about the King's Quest series. Or Sierra adventures in general. I respect them deeply for more or less defining the Graphic Adventure game, but... *sigh* I just never really got into many of their games. When I go back to play a Point n' click, I usually play a LucasArts. LucasArts games just all appealed to me more. That said, I do like some Sierra games - I like some entries in the Kings Quest series, I enjoyed the first PoliceQuest, and I am one of the people who will defend the early Leisure Suit Larry games for not only being funny but also for NOT being porn/totally sexist like some people say they are. In fact the early ones actually had a lot of heart to them, it just so happens the humour was blue. The new Leisure Suit Larry games though... *blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarf.* The only positive about the most recent one, "Box Office Bust" is thank fucking god they spared our eyes the sight of seeing its female characters naked, they were fucking terrifying. I wouldn't mind you stabbing them in the gullet sometime, or any other comedy reviewer - I haven't really seen anyone dare take a jab at Magna Cum Laude or Box Office Bust yet.
Regardless, fun review - and based on your reference to it in your Simon the Sorcerer 3D review, I'm hoping you review Kings Quest VIII sometime.

I loved the harp puzzle. That song was so nice... What pissed me off was that the fairies keep giving you the notes every time you went to that screen. If I need the hint again, I'll click on them, thank you!
The sound stuttering is a DOS Box error and not the game in itself. ;-)

I haven't got round to playing this game yet but I'm also new to the series since april 2013.
beaten the 6 of the KQ games starting with the point n click remakes then for KQ4 to 6 I played the originals.
Now I need to go and do the old school original KQ 1 to 3 then do KQ7.
For me who hasn't played KQ7 I actually like it even though the animation is very chopy.
After KQ I'm gonna buckle down with Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry.
Any chance you might do a video on the Police Quest series?

I played this a long time ago after I just... found it. Couldn't get past finding all the items for the old troll woman (a bowl and a liquid I believe?), probably didn't help I couldn't understand englisg at the time. Yet this game had a certain feeling to it. Like 15 years later, I knew a general background of videogames like some king quest games. I see this video and emmediatly thought "THAT WAS A KING'S QUEST GAME?"
