The Sonic games have had a lot of rock music, ever since the late 90’s with Sonic Adventure. Although it’s never been quite as heavy as the Frontiers boss themes. This is the first Sonic soundtrack to feature the use of a 9 string guitar and you can really feel it in the music.

Sonic has an absolute ton of great tracks. From the same game there's "Break Through It All" (probably THE heaviest Sonic track ever) and "Find Your Flame" which is Nu Metal if I recall the genre correctly (basically rap+metal), while "Vandalize" (the ending theme) is more of a heartbreak song - not meant to hype you, but a beautiful track. "I'm Here" (main theme), I don't quite like it as much tbh but a lot of people adore it. Other than metal, Frontiers also has an absoutely incredible electronic music collection of just about every genre, from Trance to Drum n' Bass to LoFi, and some remixes get really experimental. Even the orchestral piano stuff is just beautiful. Outside of Frontiers, Sonic has a bunch of great tracks, but I strongly encourage you check out the Sonic Adventure games first. Very different vibe, also incredibly varried, jazz, hip hop, hair metal, industrial techno, the works. The most famous track to come out of there is definitely "Live and Learn". Sonic Frontiers had no right to go THIS hard but oh man was it a perfect fit for the bosses with Super Sonic! Absolutely love Find Your Flame as well! The Sonic franchise as always been going places with the soundtrack and I can wholeheartedly reccommend more Sonic OSTs because it's an all you can eat buffet of stellar guitar work, vocals, synths and mixes of genres. Also I don't know if people told you on stream, but this music is from the very first boss fight which you fight as Super Sonic. This is kind of a bigger deal because for many years 'Super Sonic' or Sonic's extra powerful form was always saved for the final boss as an epic show down. In Frontiers, the bosses are so big and powerful he doesn't even make a dent in them on his own, he HAS to use this supercharged form for every single boss. The revisited version of 'I'm Here' (the game's theme song) that was added in a free DLC is absolutely amazing and plays at the very end of the final boss. This DLC was notoriously difficult and has definitely become my go-to tune to listen to when I'm struggling with anything because man does it get the adrenaline going. Would love to see your reaction to it!
Oh YES! This song is great! 🤩 I have heard this awesome song first as a cover from ,,GO!! Light Up!", and then the original. Your reaction about it is great too. 4:25 😄
My experience with the word "emo" was a slang term, short for "emotional" in reference to depressed people or, specifically, people who were melodramatically depressed but didn't have to be and turned into into a trend and style somewhere between goth and punk where they wore a lot of black, had black hair often with bangs covering one of the eyes, always looked slouched and depressed and cynical and talked in melodramatic ways. But it was also a style that was similar, but not necessarily the same, and especially in music like with Linkin Park where it resonated with people of that style and nature even if the lyrics weren't exactly pessimistic. I'm guessing in this song maybe they mean because it seems "harcore" in that sense? I don't know. There's more to it than that, but I'm not qualified to explain it. As a Sonic fan, when I played this game, a lot of the music was calm piano music or trance depending on the environment you're playing in. But after exploring a whole island for an hour or 2, you come to a Godzilla sized enemy in order to complete the island and move on to the next one. It's a boss fight that requires Sonic to transform into something called Super Sonic, which is usually something that happens at the END of the games. But this time it was at the end of each island, which was a surprise. After the melodic music for hours, this song suddenly plays as soon as Sonic transforms to fight the titan (literally called a titan, named Giganto) with a lot of crazy flashy moves. The song is a just a bit more hardcore than we are used to even though we've heard some crazy stuff before. It usually shocks the player the first time and gets them pumped up for the fight. For context, Super Sonic is 3 feet in height, glowing yellow with his hair sticking up like a Super Saiyan if you know what that is, and flying super fast around this Godzilla sized alien made robot that looks like some kind of slender demon.
the music of sonic has always been exactly what that generation wanted to hear. As the sonic generation grew up most of us started to naturally gravitate towards rock and metal music, and the sonic franchise was happy to oblige getting progressively more towards that genre. Now the sonic generation are adults who are set in their ways of metal and it's associated sub-grenres. We have now arrived at the final form of sonic music.
