It's funny cause, as you said, you haven't played Sonic since the Sega Genesis, but ever since Sonic turned 3D in 1998 his musical identity has been heavily defined by rock. And despite the mixed opinions about many of his games, everyone agrees that their soundtracks always go hard. Man there's just so many great Sonic songs
Fun fact, in Find your Flame, the second guitar solo that you heard doesn't actually exist. In the official soundtrack the solo only happens once and then it goes to the soft part with the vocals. The reason it plays twice here is because people ripped the theme straight from the game and when you trigger the end of the boss, it plays the guitar part. Hope to see you doing Undefeatable and Break Through it All, which are the two other Titan themes from Sonic Frontiers.
So in regards to Sonic, the vocalists for the track are Tyler Smyth during the "rap" sections, who actually did a song from sonic forces (infinite's theme). As for the Chorus it's actually Kellin Quinn from the band Sleeping with Sirens, who also sung the other 3 main boss themes (all of which are just as amazing). As for the actual preformance I don't know if it was a full band, but with Kellin being there, it most likely was. Lastly, in regards to guilty gear. Strive has so many amazing tracks and while this one isn't my favorite, it's definitely up there.
Since you were wondering Tony, "What Do You Fight For" is indeed a "Come Together" by The Beetles reference. Daisuke, the game director and one who makes all the music for Guilty Gear is a massive fan of rock from all eras. Almost all of his songs have cheeky nods to metal and rock bands.
"What do you fight for" is such a killer choice. If you're looking for the background, the theme is about the outcast character Nagoriyuki, who is a vampire samurai. "The world is starting to reject you, if so what do you fight for?" is such a raw line given the context.
a note, nago was literally sealed away and later on a skyscraper was build on top of him. Everyone literally forgot about him to the extent that his "grave" was a foundation for a building. Also, I think the second verse is about using the Nightless (vampires in gg lore) thing to cure people. Which never went through, because it just causes more Nightless.
Yeah sonic has been rock since the late 90s! Starting with Michael Jackson, they’ve also consistently collabed with big artists (especially in the metal scene) like Marty Friedman, Pastiche, Tony Harnell, Ted Poley, Johnny Gioelli, Julien-K, Gunnar Nelson, Magna-Fi, Zebrahead, fuckin AKON of all people, Bowling For Soup, Cash Cash, Dangerkids, and now Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens. Honestly the franchise has like 20 years worth of straight bangers, ranging from emo-metalcore, pop punk, ska, DNB, hip hop, new jack swing, jazz and dance. I highly recommend checking out more music from Sonic. You could easily do a full video reacting to vocal tracks from the franchise.
It's actually funny that you mention the 'Come Together' rhythm being noticeable in What Do You Fight For, because the composer for the vast majority of GGST's soundtrack has openly stated that the Beatles are a huge inspiration to him.
guilty gear strive's main theme 'smell of the game' is absolutely insane, if you check more guilty gear music out, that ones a must. I personally really like 'Play the hero' a lot too. for sonic songs, theyre all great, but ive recently been enjoying one song more than any other: planet wisp act 1. it is absolutely one of the funkiest game songs ever, the bassline is really nice and the entire song just works so well. for god of war, i dont really know much about the series or its ost, but i know 'the end begins' is a really good one.
The Sonic series has a lot of awesome music, definitely worthy of more reactions. I'd recommend the songs Live and Learn, What I'm Made Of, I Am (All of Me), Endless Possibility, Reach for the Stars, and Fist Bump.
find your flame is more approachable on the first listen, which is why people keep suggesting it, but i really suggest listening to 'break through it all' also in sonic frontiers, imo it is the better track of the two
@@MrValvoja going all the way back to the Vastage XT ost and he was basically incomprehensible for at least half of each song. Now you can actually understand him which is great
So basically Sonic almost gets his arse handed to him by the "Knight" titan (one of the bosses in the game) and once he collects all the emeralds, he goes Super Sonic and then gives the titans a taste of their own medicine and hands it to them reallll good. Sonic literally catches a gigantic sword with his hands and then uses that sword to slice Knight right in half. The ost goes super hard, I hope that you react to "Breaking Through It All" which is also a boss theme from Sonic Frontiers.
Sonic Frontiers has some more Songs like this, namely "Undefeatable" and "Break Through It All", so I guess it could be worth checking those out too. From Guilty Gear Strive: "Giovanna Theme", "Potemkin's Theme", "Faust Theme" and the Main Theme "Smell Of The Game" are also really good.
Guilty gear strive's ost has layers. Every aspect of every song correlates to something in the characters lore, motivations, or inner turmoil. Your comment about the intentional dissonance is referencing how the character basically has a calm, collected, and gentlemanly personality constantly battling his vampiric hunger that manifests as a separate personality. What Do You Fight For is the vampire side's theme while Crawl is for the human side.
Grew up playing Sonic on the Genesis too. The series has some excellent music, and the heavier tunes started with Crush 40’s Open Your Heart for Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. I’d highly recommend checking some others out: This Machine, Infinite, I Am All of Me, and any of the boss songs from Frontiers. There are some beautiful instrumental tracks along the games too.
@@jesuspernia8031 my guy, Sonic Adventure 2 literally starts with Sonic jumping out of a helicopter ripping off a piece of metal and riding it like a snowboard throughout a city with a giant truck chasing him. If anything it just got back to that level of edgy.
@@whenisdinner2137 Nothing about that was edgy. It was just really cool lol. Maybe we have different definitions of edgy cause what I consider “edgy” is stuff like Shadow The Hedgehog (the game). Not sonic escaping a helicopter a riding a piece of it like a skateboard.
Finally a music reactor that acknowledges Sonic🙌🙌 This franchise has one of the most consistently great ost's in the industry and even though it's largely appreciated in the fandom, it's amazing how often it goes under the radar for the rest of the people. Thank you for giving it a shot and I hope you keep reacting to some of its other amazing pieces ^^. Sonic Colors, Lost World and ESPECIALLY Unleashed are great candidates for orchestral reactions
Honestly I've heard that more than 20 times (I mean god of war 3) but I'm steal exited about that because a genius musician in the master level reaction to an amazing song, that's lovely. Thank you for this reaction 👍😎
I can't believe there's no one that recommending Persona series. One of the game with the best soundtrack. You should check it. The composer for this game surprisingly only one man.
The beginning of what do you fight for is actually a beatle's reference lol, you were spot on. Daisuke Ishiwatari loooooves rock music, so he references it in a lot of his songs and games. One of Ky's super moves is called "Ride the Lightning", Goldlewis has one called "Down With the System" (system of a down), all of the ranked floors are named after songs/bands/albums, etc. There's a lot of references in Guilty Gear, which are always fun to find.
This is why I love seeing music pros talk about Guilty Gear - the character themes are usually saying more with the music itself than I have the vocabulary to process, and this one is no exception. The conflict between the guitar and bass maps well onto the character whose theme this is, kinda blows my mind.
Ishiwatary did write his songs, before he collaborated with people in the mixing part. he has evolve over 20 years and now he is collaborating with outrage, he plays the guitar btw, i wont be surprised if all of a sudden he reveals he is doing some riffs.
What do you Fight for definitely sounds like Come Together from the Beatles, Daisuke Ishiwatari loves rock and metal and loves puting references to those genres in his games including the OST
It's 20 years old, but "Haven You Got Eyes In Your Head?" from ggxx is great and is pretty unique for a guilty gear song. Would love to see your reaction to it!
Let's say... that Sonic, ever since the late 90's and early 2000's, have been all about music like this, heavy amount of guitar and a lot of "Rad" energy to it, with a little bit of edge thrown in for good measure. Think of it like Sonic "graduating" from its childhood into its teenagerhood, a lot of the music people now associate with him are usually the same type of rock music who was super popular in the early 2000's among teenagers, and Sonic Frontiers kinda went back to those "roots".
I love guilt gear music alot so watching you break it down was a treat. I was little dissappointed that you weren't brekaing down other sonic music like sonic mania though. Otherwise fantastic musical analysis as usual!
If there's one thing all Sonic Fans can agree on, it's that the music is almost always an absolute diamond mine of hits. Ever since Sonic Adventure in 1999 Rock has always been a key to Sonic's musical identity with steps into Metal, Techno, and many others. Honestly I would love nothing more than to see you go through many of the classic Sonic hits and give us your professional opinion on them. "Open your Heart" and "Live and Learn" would be the two best to start with.
I really recommend the chrono trigger OST. The creator said many of the songs he composed were themes he heard in his dream , and truthfully when you listen it does sound magical . I recommend secret of the forest.
In Sonic Frontiers, Sonic is the only one to escape some sort of ancient computer simulation after he and his friends get sucked into it, he has to destroy 3 robotic titans keeping his friends trapped as ghostly holograms while also dealing with Robotnik's AI assistant SAGE who is controlling the ancient machines. Find Your Flame is Knight's theme, the 3rd boss and the one keeping Tails trapped on the volcanic Chaos Island. The titans are so powerful that you literally cant fight them unless you're the invincible Super Sonic, meaning while you cant take damage, you only have around 4 minutes before you become vulnerable (the time limit increases as you upgrade your health and can collect more rings) and the boss just one shots you when that happens.
I recently got my Spotify 2022 recap back. Most listened to album? The Guilty Gear Strive OST, much like it was in 2021! I eagerly look forward to the S2 DLC characters just get more songs added, and I similarly look forward to Tony's breakdowns of these amazing tracks!
Nearly every sonic 3d game has a rock music video and they're great! Endless possibilities, Live and Learn, What I'm made of plus All of me from the Shadow the hedgehog games
Fun fact, the singer for the sonic song is a pretty famous singer named "Kelin Quinn" (i think its spelled like that) shes known for being apart of "sleeping with sirens".
Love those metal Sonic tracks. The guitarist/drum programmer for "find your flame" worked on the latest Babymetal album too, which also went pretty hard. Distortion is a banger🤘
Sonic Frontiers and Guilty Gear Strive has entirely awesome music. Sonic Frontiers boss themes and main theme as well as the credits theme are all otherworldly, even for Sonic that has had bangers for a long while. Guilty Gear just has themes that I can only say is alternative heavy rock and it’s confusing how to explain each one of them. They’re all so different and unique. My favorite of that is Ramlethal’s theme “Necessary Discrepancy”
"Memories of Mother" from God of War PS4 is amazing and I would be very interested to see you analyze it cause it is a piece of music that makes me feel so many different emotions
in guilty gear you will find alot of references to classic rock in there, my dad really enjoyed listening to the soundtrack just to notice the similarities to classic songs
Guilty gears music and whole world is heavily inspired by Rock bands and musicians, that definitely was a beetles reference you heard, it’s done on purpose because the creator is such a fan of that genre of music
Loving the game music reactions! A great guilty gear song I’d love to see you react to is the main theme of the most recent game, Smell of the Game. Daisuke, the game director and composer, is a crazy madman in all the best ways. It is a wild ride of a track, would def make for a great video!
I personally can't wait for Tony to go into GG OST that shows Naoki Hashimoto's extremely talented vocal range, as well as Daisuke Ishuatari's genre experimentation! (I might have spelt God's name wrong, I'm sorry) Songs like Lily, Freesia, and Divide my Heart from XRD and Revelator fully contrast from songs like Heavy Day, Wanna Be Crazy, and many others. Guilty Gear is truly a treat, and a real love letter to all things rock and roll, and I hope Tony enjoys it as much as we all do
For all of the Guilty Gear tracks, if you think its a reference to a popular band/song, it probably is. Daisuke is a huge fan of western rock and makes a ton of references
for guilty gear strive songs, every single one is about the specific character's story. You have Sol just being a bounty hunter, Ky is just dealing with how he doesn't understand what exactly is going on, but he has a waifu and things are generally favorable, Faust is struggling to figure out who he is and Zato is dealing with the fact he died and was brought to life with inability to feel feelings and everything he does is due to instinct to what he used to be.
Loving the music insights, only recently discovered your stuff but im burning through all the vids. I'd highly recommend checking out Pingpong the animation's OST, composed by Kensuke Ushio (same composer as Chainsaw man). "Four-eyes attacks", "Heroes theme/appears", "Like a dance", "Butterfly Joe" and "Pingpong phase 2" are standouts to me but the entire OST is incredibly well produced (I'll sometimes just play the whole OST in the background). Really believe hes one of the best composers out there right now. Either way digging the content and keep doing ur thing 👌
Simple version, Sonic can be broken down into 3 eras when it comes to his videogames, the Classic Era (1991-1998), the Adventure Era (1999-2009) and the Meta Era (2010-2021). Excluding the TV shows and comics the Classic Era is pretty unremarkable when it comes to tone and story, exactly what you'd expect and the Meta Era took a very simplistic and overly childish approach with the franchise. The Adventure Era is renowned for how serious and mature (at least attempted maturity) it was, young girls getting gunned down, deaths of entire cities, characters going through existential crisis, in general the stakes were always high and the stories were very character driven. That's when the franchise started mainly having soundtracks with a lot of rock music in them. It's regarded by most fans as the best era for Sonic and Frontiers is trying to bring it back.
Cool idea to make multiple game song reactions, otherwise only the more popular games would win the poll, this gives the spotlight for everyone a little bit :)
You should do a whole Sonic OST and level reaction video. Games like sonic rush and Sonic colors have such amazing and catchy Sountracks . And there are iconic one's like sonic adventure and sonic CD that I think would make for an amazing reaction video.
13:29 I guess it's fine to compare, since guilty gear series, specially strive soundtrack is a homage to a lot of rock bands and genres, just wait for some Bon Jovi in ky's theme, Roar of the Spark
I still believe that you should react to the other Titan themes for Frontiers. My personally favorite of the four is Break Through it All and if you give it a listen, you’ll see why
The guitar in Find Your Flame is Ohtani (the album's main composer) on a nine string, it's all real instruments. The Japanese will go pretty far with their OST compositions, they even get real orchestras for stuff like Ace Combat. BTW, go listen to the Ace Combat 7 OST, paricularly Daredevil, Archange, Lighthouse and Magic Spear I.
There is only 3 reaction channels that I watch consistently roshi, path reacts, and your channel. The videos are just always entertaining even if I’m not familiar with the thing you are reacting to.

Yup, Arc System Works was my most listened to artist, with Original Bet being my most replayed song.
Gg strive has an amazing ost you should listen to all of them.
Please do more God of War themes in the future. The ost from the God of war 2018 and God war Ragnarok is just outstanding
Yay more Guilty Gear!
Yeah, that's it. Find Your Flames, baby
“What do you fight for” is actually a reference to the Beatles! Guilty gear makes lots of references to musicians and rock 😁
you gotta listen to Undefeatable and Break Through it All from Sonic Frontiers
Loving the game music reactions! A great guilty gear song I’d love to see you react to is the main theme of the most recent game, Smell of the Game. Daisuke, the game director and composer, is a crazy madman in all the best ways. It is a wild ride of a track, would def make for a great video!
React to old Guilty gear ost. Holy order, pillar of the underworld or awe of she. Just gold
I love this BUT I WANT TO REQUEST " LOST IN PARADISE " & " TK UNRAVEL " FULL VERSION PLEASE
The gif of war one has Greek lyrics which translated to “The end is beginning, the end is beginning now”
I personally can't wait for Tony to go into GG OST that shows Naoki Hashimoto's extremely talented vocal range, as well as Daisuke Ishuatari's genre experimentation! (I might have spelt God's name wrong, I'm sorry)
Songs like Lily, Freesia, and Divide my Heart from XRD and Revelator fully contrast from songs like Heavy Day, Wanna Be Crazy, and many others. Guilty Gear is truly a treat, and a real love letter to all things rock and roll, and I hope Tony enjoys it as much as we all do
Thank you for reacting to all 3!
For all of the Guilty Gear tracks, if you think its a reference to a popular band/song, it probably is. Daisuke is a huge fan of western rock and makes a ton of references
It's always a good day when you have a reason to listen to Guilty Gear music!
for guilty gear strive songs, every single one is about the specific character's story.
Kellin is the vocalist from Sleeping with Sirens, his voice is really hi pitch
This my new favorite channel to see post, great video
oh man sonic, Strive ost, And Gow? and its gow3 theme? morning cant come sooner! excited
Might actually be the ragnarok ost
@@fudgerrr9385 description says 3 ost
saw sonic and got hyped. crush 40 kills it
They were really good
Crush 40 IS really good……but he’s not reacting to Crush 40 music from Sonic😅 He’s reacting to the Sonic Frontiers bands (not crush 40)
@@DrumRollTonyReacts that not crush 40
@@DrumRollTonyReacts That's Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens and the chorus is sung by Tyler Smyth from DANGERKIDS and Falling in Reverse.
Please do the guilty gear character themes!!! you will not be disappointed
Sonic musics is amazing!
bruh, Kellin has a really high voice. Like, damn dude!I wished I had his voice.
They’re turning sonic into a shonen character and ngl it works INSANELY well
it was already shonen in the games and comics, the games just took a 13 year break from it
I can also super highly recommend the god of war 2018 or 2022 (both quite the same but also quite different) main theme! Absolute masterpieces
13:29 I guess it's fine to compare, since guilty gear series, specially strive soundtrack is a homage to a lot of rock bands and genres, just wait for some Bon Jovi in ky's theme, Roar of the Spark
I feel like you would have fun with happy chaos's theme
I love that it does not matter the quality of a sonic game. The music will always be the highlight of it.
i loved this format!
I still believe that you should react to the other Titan themes for Frontiers. My personally favorite of the four is Break Through it All and if you give it a listen, you’ll see why
Find your flame is really good i just wishthe guitar solo didnt repeat so soon after itself
YESSSS MORE GUILTY GEAR MUSIC!!!!!
I'm really hoping we'll get to see some more Guilty Gear reactions. Basically everything from Guilty Gear Strive is top tier.
6:55 bro that double pedal was beautiful, agree?
The guitar in Find Your Flame is Ohtani (the album's main composer) on a nine string, it's all real instruments. The Japanese will go pretty far with their OST compositions, they even get real orchestras for stuff like Ace Combat. BTW, go listen to the Ace Combat 7 OST, paricularly Daredevil, Archange, Lighthouse and Magic Spear I.
There is only 3 reaction channels that I watch consistently roshi, path reacts, and your channel. The videos are just always entertaining even if I’m not familiar with the thing you are reacting to.
