The reason it's called circle is in reference to the "circle of life", since in the song Bedman, rejecting an empty afterlife, haunting his mechanical bedframe in order to protect his sister even after death.
Don't ask why he has a mechanical bedframe, that's even more complicated to explain

Circle of life is a bit wrong. The cycle of reincarnation is a bit closer. Circle of life is like, birth, death, decomposition, nutrients for other life.

What this song is about is more for the interpretation. That's why he's called Bedman? It could be that he's somehow being able to control the bedframe, it could be that the bedframe is fulfilling his final wishes or my personal opinion. Bedman's consciousness is stuck in the moment of his death, while he did try to get out of the circle of life and death, he failed. Now he's in the circle of endless death, briefly being able to control the bedframe (which in the arcade mode is specifically trying to get destroyed) before the automatic parts return in control.
But again, the only concrete answer will be from the devs, because the entire nature of this character is based on a question mark.

    • @AllistorRichards
      @AllistorRichards 9 месяцев назад +16

It's actually moreso about Purgatory, hence the constant questions to god, the description of everything being "endless yet finite, pitch black yet bright white." It's way more about Romeo struggling to pass on after death thanks to his connection to his sister keeping him around, keeping him tied to the living world, and then coming to terms with it by the end because he's realized that even passing on to something like heaven is not worth it if his sister-his very reason for his actions throughout the story- is not protected.

Bedman is actually a tragic villain, which explains why the song has a very tragic, melancholic vibe to it. He was one of the main villains in the previous game, but everything he did, everyone he killed, he did with the belief that he would have the power to undo it once he accomplished his goal, only to be betrayed by his benefactor and left to die. Now some part of him is reaching from beyond the grave to control his weaponized bed and protect his little sister, who is the reason why he wanted all that power in the first place.

Some of the passion and range he has in the GG OST is crazy, he can do romantic ballads, Motley Crue style rock, fry vocals, and freddie mercury style operatic stuff.

Guilty Gear music(Strive ESPECIALLY) can be very experimental and abstract. Daisuke(the main developer and also the composer of all the music) loves a lot of old rock bands and pays hommage in direct references through characters and the music as well. You'd never guess that the lyrics are basically about a dude sacrificing himself and protecting his living sister through a bed-like robot.

This song gives me chills, Bedman? is one of my favorite Guilty Gear characters for their story. Trying to put their story into words is REALLY hard tho I tried my best.
So in the video what you saw was a mechanized bed fighting, protecting a young girl (the girls name is Delilah). In Guilty Gear Xrd that bed was piloted by *the* Bedman, a young looking man named Romeo. He was Delilahs big brother. They were both born with abnormal brains that granted them psychic powers and high intelligence, but their bodies couldn't physically handle their brains when they were awake so they stayed asleep, and Romeo used the mechanical bed to get around. In the story of Xrd Romeo teamed up with the big bad of the game, who I won't go into detail about but her name is Ariels. He was seeking a way for him and his sister to live normally and Ariels offered him a way. His understanding was they were going to work together to bring about "the absolute world", a world of peace and perfection where they would be cured, but in reality Ariels lied, and the absolute world was actually going to wipe out all life in the universe so she could make new life however she saw fit. In the end of the story Romeo was brought to near death and then this was revealed to him. He had a lot of people's blood on his hands because he planned to just bring them all back to life anyways with the absolute world, but obviously with the reality of the plan he couldn't which filled him with the exact amount of grief that you would imagine. In his final moments he used every last bit of his energy to cure Delilah and allow her to be awake. What happens after that sort of varies depending on how you interpret the lyrics of this song, since the song is the only source for it. One possibility is that he altered the programming of the bed to give it the directive of protecting Delilah at all costs. The other possibility is that after he died his soul somehow became trapped in the bed, meaning he controls it as a spirit now. Both could also be true simultaneously, but personally I think the second possibility makes the most sense and gives the lyrics near the end of the song a lot of weight. In terms of Delilah, Strive recieved a DLC mini story mode where she was the main subject, and she was seeking revenge from who she believed to be her brothers killer. She attempted to teleport to that persons location but instead put a whole town in danger with her energy, so a collection of characters plus the bed worked together to save her and stop her from obliterating the town, and then Baiken, who had also been seeking revenge from the same person, took Delilah in and now they live together with the bed and have given up on revenge. The bed gets her into trouble sometimes but she's happier now, and Baiken is a surprisingly good guardian.
When this song came out it was kinda controversial online for some reason, mainly for that talky part in the beginning, but I think the whole song is amazing especially given the context. The singer, Naoki Hashimoto, does ALL of the male vocals for Guilty Gear Strive, with the exception of some small background vocals in Love the Subhuman Self. His range is absolutely insane, and it's wild to see how humble he is about it. I've talked to him before and he gives the credit of these songs all to Daisuke, who is an amazing artist, but Naoki deserves the credit for the vocals because GEEZ. He's also the lead singer of a Japanese band called Outrage. What's really funny is that before he even worked on Guilty Gear the band was referenced in the games, with a weapon called the Outrage. The Outrage is this crazy weapon Sol built to fight Gears, but it's so powerful that not even he could wield it safely, so he split the components into several other weapons. Giving something that important the name Outrage makes it clear that Daisuke was a big fan of them, so getting to work with Naoki now must be a dream lol

One of the coolest aspects of The Circle is that the meaning of the song can heavily be based on which parts of the lyrics resonate more. As told before in the comments, the song is about a man who died and is trying to push his way back to life in order to protect his sister. One way to interpret the lyrics is that his mission was a success and he has gained access to the machine he once piloted and uses it to ensure his sister's safety, implying he broke through the circle of life. Alternatively it could mean something more tragic as at points the voice seemingly is calling out to God and asking what it sees, feels, and hears however on the second attempt, something answers back and shatters the man's ideals of returning to life. In his final moments before death, he orders the machine to protect his sister at all costs ensuring that though she may never smile again, she will never cry even once. This occurs as the man passes the threshold, unsure if his plan to protect his sister even worked.
I personally see it as the man breaking through and possessing the machine but there is plenty of evidence to support the other interpretation and thats whats wonderful with this song.

Some of the lyrics come out awkward to an american listener so the vocals sound off and then, in my case at least, you start to see it from the writers perspective and it clicks. I think this is only something you could get by having a non native speaker write music in english so if nothing else its an interesting way to frame how language can shape rythm

for context on the character this theme is for; Bedman? in guilty gear is a dead man whose "soul" lives on in the bed that he used in life, given one single final order before the original bedman's death: protect his sister, delilah. As a result, the now destroyed bed is staying by his sister's side 24/7 to keep her safe. the song's lyrics, are essentially the brother's (original bedman) thoughts as the sentient bed and how he will stop at nothing to protect his sister.

there a lot of ways you can interpret this song which I think is really cool. the way I personally interpret it is in bedmans dying moments, he feels the absolute world he dedicated everything to achieving, the afterlife. but, "nothing here", I interpret it as him saying that without delilah by his side the absolute world means nothing. so he responds "NO." to god, refusing the afterlife and instead inhabiting the broken, deteriorating, lifeless robot. he gives up Everything. his body, his voice, his flesh, his thoughts, his identity, his comfort, his absolute world, all so delilah will never cry again
that's how I heard it atleast, I can definetly see how it's a call from bedman and response from god. but I just think that bedman becoming the bed,it was his choice, not god forcing him into it. so I think it's the other way around, a call from god and a response from bedman, or perhaps both are bedman, idk lmao. I just think bedman himself is refusing god to be with his delilah

I often wonder if the composers not speaking english as a first language affords them the ability to think up insane deliveries and cadences for these lines. Like who the hell would've thought to deliver these like they are.

If Guilty Gear music has your fancy I highly recommend BlazBlue. It's a very different vibe but it's made by the same composer (with a few exceptions) and honestly I much prefer it to GG music personally.

I like the Strive ost but Xrd's ost is p4p the best metal ost for a game and bedman's xrd theme is top 3 among them.

Eh, music is entirely a matter of taste, just because you dislike it does not mean that's a problem with the music.
