    Excellent review Scott. Very relaxed and informative. I have to say, even though the price was raised just over 300 Euros, the improvements to the bike warrant the extra cash. We are talking an evolutionary process of the most successful naked motorcycle of the last 15 years. Slightly bigger and better brakes, better transmission linkage, fuel mapping improvements, handlebar improvements, lighting improvements and led signals et al. Worth more than three hundred bucks folks.... I disagree with some comments here about yamaha's greed and complacency. I think if they were complacent, they would have left the ergonomics to be subpar, left crappy brakes, Yamahas Infamous horrible turn signals, and left the bike alone. That would have been a bigger mistake.

    As an older, experienced rider (age 61) I bought a 2019 model recently. In my opinion I think it’s best used as a budget bike or for new riders. My complaints are the suspension on less than smooth roads, freeway speed (above 70mph) vibes in the handlebars and a busy sounding engine. The seat, although wide and supportive was uncomfortable quite soon. The power and torque were fantastic, the brakes excellent, as was the transmission. A good bike, just not refined enough for me.

      Thank you Larry,
      My wife is taking her time with that decision, she wants another summer on the Honda Monkey, we were not able to do a lot of riding last summer, got out together maybe 4 times for just a few hours in total. So over this last winter she said that it's not time yet to move up in size, so we'll take it slow and hopefully do more riding this summer. Covid19 really put a damper on over night/weekend motorcycle trips...etc. so maybe we will get more time this summer but the out-look is not looking promising :(

    Really enjoy your great honest reviews. Which (MT07 or MT09) has better ergonomics, epecially leg room, for a pillion? Based on photos it appears MT07 has better leg room for a passenger... I am considering a 2021 MT 07 or MT09. Any experience with this... What is your opinion on ergonomics for both rider & pillion?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  3 года назад

      Thank you David,
      Sorry, I've no experience with 2up on these two bikes. But the 09 is higher and a little bit bigger and usually, key word there is "usually", that means more room/better for the pillion passenger. The 09 fits me better than the 07, more leg room, and just a little more up-right riding position.
      take care,
      Scott

I even prefer my model,.. and it even has a little more power ,..freer , which in my case is even more , because I put full escape ( exhaust sistem ),.. and it got even better ,.., but it's still a mt 07 ,.. very fun !!

    Hi Scott, quick question from a Chinese motor newbie here (just got my licence 3 months ago, and now riding Yamaha NMAX 155 for daily commute). Which one do you recommend for a green hand, 2021 SV 650 (Euro 11915) or 2021 MT-07 (Euro 15248)? Or even Ninja 400 (Euro 7055)? as the first motorbike to ride. Million thanks here. BTW, really love your way to test bikes, and 'teaching wife ride' series.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  2 года назад +1

      Thank you 😁
      I personally would take the SV650 cause it has so much character and is so playful, the others are a bit lighter but here is a big BUT, I would never get bored with the SV & the looks are classic . So, thinking long term, the SV would be a better choice. And if you ever wanted to do "track days" the SV is the best choice because the mods available for the SV are just endless.
      Bottom line, let your heart pick the bike and consider the dealer that you are buying from too.
      Good luck,

    I like the new headlight. When I look at the front of the bike it makes me sort of curious. Wouldn't say that the one on e.g. Trident is ugly but is bland, I look at it and don't care, just another copy of street twin or xsr. I didn't particularly like KTM headlight and the whole front, but when I saw 890 up close...wooow, it looks very cool. Much better in real life than on screen. Value wise, Yamaha is much better, if someone has a tight budget. They offered one of my colleagues a very decent discount + heated grips, crash bars, and some other minor accessories. Triumph gave him nothing. With quick shifter, h. grips and crash bars you easily crossing 8.3k euro mark.

      There's speculation that suzuki might do away with the v-twin engine, in the 650cc class, and move to a parallel twin engine configuration like this MT 07. It's just simply easy and cheaper for suzuki, to manufacture parallel twin engines, over v-twins. So if that happens, it won't be a SV650 any more, but a new model of bike in the 650cc class.

      @@NothingToProve updated the suspension again. Updated to the lcd display. Slight weight savings. And the power went up about 1.3 hp and 1ft lb of torque “on a dyno”. Not huge update but seems interesting enough to compare. The biggest change is the forks

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  3 года назад +1

      Well, it just came out in 2019 and now in 2021 it's a "light refresh" because of Euro5.
      I think since they had to update the motor to Euro5, they "refreshed" a few things. Two things went in the wrong direction, toque down and weight up (according to Honda). Torque got less and higher in the RPM range, was 47.2@8,500 now 46.46@9,500, not good there. And the weight increased by 2 pounds, which is common for Euro5 compliance (same +2 lbs as the MT07). But hp seems to be the same. The LCD is now color but still the same LCD that is difficult to see in the sun...at least I'm assuming from the pictures from Honda. Suspension was Showa SFF, now it's Showa SFF BP, so they just added the "big Piston" which is nice and I would only notice that difference on a track day, I would not notice "BP" on the street doing legal speeds.
      I don't know...hmm...I'll take a look at it when I see it in person and then decide from there, the deciding factor is if I think I can get enough clicks to justify taking the 25+ hours to make a video. Since I just did the launch of it in 2019.
      Ride safe,
      Scott

      @@NothingToProve I can see the miss conception on the weight on my end. They were claiming weight savings from the forks. The lcd has a brighter background light and the font was increased to help visibility. I actually did see this on a side by side with my 2019. As far as the power numbers I got those from motorcyclist magazines Chanel. They dyno tested the 2019 and the 2021 and the the 2021. and after watching it again the claimed numbers were +1.5hp and +2ft lb over the 2019 to the wheel. I’ve seen there were supposed to be some changes to the internationals on the motor. For euro 5 yes but supposed It helped smooth out the power dip between 5-6k rpm. Either way I appreciate your time and response man 👍 ride safe
