This is one of the greatest platformers on any console ever. And your playthrough is even greater...you make it look easy! I could never finish this game.
@@roderickstockdale1678 I guess I could see a closed console like that due to not wanting to pay too many licensing fees........but cmon this is the game most people think about when they think Turbografx 16!! At the very least I have no idea why so many of these great, classic games aren't for sale on digital store fronts. They are leaving money on the table and denying a great many people the pleasure of playing these great games.
Love this game! Great soundtrack from Jun Chikuma. I'm terrible at it (always die in the jumping sections of 3B) but you make it look easy, as usual. My favorite boss is the big rock in Zone 2 that just rolls back and forth!
The end boss look like crazy fully bearded Homer Simpson. A formidable enemy. e: Which is even more fun as this game predates Homer and his appearance quite a bit. So Homer looks like Jagu and not the other way around.
This should have been the pack-in game for the Turbo. people would have been more impressed by the turbografx with Legendary axe instead of Keith courage
This is what a video game SHOULD be! A great console deserved great games like this. Just think about the SIZE and the COLORS of that final boss! He filled the entire screen! WOW! Imagine the Sega Genesis EVER doing that! And NEC managed this with an 8 bit CPU w 8kB RAM with two 16 bit graphics processors and 64kB graphics RAM. Just PERFECT. ❤
Turbografx 16 has a catalog of perfect games even better than its competitors, just as I love Sega Genesis I also love this great console and this legendary game :)
Ah yes, had this back in the day. I remember being so impressed by how the Turbo games had such huge sprites compared with NES titles. Don't think I ever got past the third stage though, those boulders were just impossible to deal with as a kid.
no wonder i never beat this game without save states. difficult stages followed by a maze and more boss battles. Had fun playing first 4-5 stages though 🤣
Legendary Axe2 was a completely different game and not a true sequel. They slapped the same name on it. Part two should’ve had its own name and sequel.
So, the speed item is the same as in Astyanax, which game was released first? EDIT: Ok no, one game is surely a rip off the other: item totems, wooden golem attack mode, the axe guys that have the exact same pattern as the skeletons...
Ah, the 1980's: back when video games had big testosterone, modest budgets, and barely-there costumes. Nowadays, we mostly get big budgets, modest costumes, and barely-there testosterone.
Zone 5 is way too long. And the vast majority of it are copypasted blue corridors playing dracula castle's brown note on loop instead of the awesome prog rock melody that accompanied the beginning of the stage. I can picture myself losing my mind and quitting the game during that segment.
wow such a heavy "Castlevania" inspired game, almost at the point of complete ripoff. The music at serveral levels are too familliar aswell, especially @ 15:04 at the 5 th level, man... no innovation, almost fell asleep, music is so bad.
Good memories, I was 14 and got this with 5 other games and the turbo graphics 16 system for Christmas. Thanks Dad . The good old days.
That's so cool. What other games did you get?

Damn straight!
On one of the most equally underrated consoles ever.
it was game of the year not underrated at all it was an early showcase

It was the hardest game for me….Keith courage I somehow beat which is crazy lol
Finished it the first time I played it.
@@STC987 video proof?
Just beat it on console for the first time today (and figured out the pits of madness without looking it up).
A game BRAVE enough to accurately portray the dangers of sentient boulders.
One of the best games I ever played on a home console. Absolutely excellent from start to finish.
Awwww yeah! I love this game! Never played it but watching the first stage always gets me hyped up. I love the music so much!
You honestly should! Gameplay is addicting and it's challenging as heck but fair. Too bad they didn't include it on the tg16\pc engine mini...
Vid Jenko it’s blasphemy they didn’t add it!

The EASIEST boss of all in the game!
Love the feel of a fully charged axe swing - so satisfying.
This is a very interesting game I haven't heard of before. Great music also.
I want a TG16 specifically for this game. Looks great 👍
Looks and feels a little bit like Rastan...great game.
The end boss look like crazy fully bearded Homer Simpson. A formidable enemy.

Especially when he kicks you with his foot of doom. Game loses points for making the attack unavoidable.
bearded homer seems to be one of the easiest final bosses in gaming history too.
@@nimaiiikun Man... you don't know what you are talking about...
Actually not. The Simpsons were around as a comic sketch for two years before this game came out and a year before the Japanese one came out.
@@roderickstockdale1678 Early version of Homer looks very different.
身体全体を使った友人の再現がうますぎてその足で買いに行った良作👍️
This was the game that made me jealous of the one kid on the block who had a TG16.
God bless you for making me reminisce
This game looks awesome! Nice high quality upload too.
Such games passed us by in childhood (((
I remember being in shock at how good this game was upon release.
It was ugly back then, but played so well... strange feeling
i like the Mike Matei video of this game where he starts screaming
"THE MONKEEYS GET THEM OFF OF MEE! " lmao
Im the only person that i know to ever own a turbo. I never could talk about the games cause nobody knew what i was talking about.
This should have been the pack-in game for the Turbo. people would have been more impressed by the turbografx with Legendary axe instead of Keith courage

Think of Aggar from Altered Beast
It reminds me about "the Astrinax" so much
1989~~~wow😲
There's a sequel too - I'll be recording it at some point 🙂
There's some great moody tracks on both this one and the sequel.
I loved this game! 🤩👏👏😃👍
Me too was my number 1 launch game on Turbografx-16
I loved this game!
I was 10 when this game came out. Unfortunately I never had a TurboGrafx 16.
This game has literally the same gameplay approach to Astyanax on the NES.
I was about to say the same, but apart from n
NES, I knew the arcade one...
I remember as a kid thinking this took so long to finish and it's just over half hour
I loved this game the most on my turbo grafx XD I could never beat it!

Let’s make the final boss as big as possible but only have him jump up and down!! That’s so Turbo Grafix
Just like an updated Nintendo which was fitting because it ran on an 8-bit processor.
no wonder i never beat this game without save states. difficult stages followed by a maze and more boss battles. Had fun playing first 4-5 stages though 🤣
XD
This game should have been on the mini
Looks nice game. Also it gives me Castlevania vibe.
Looks like Rastan plays like Castlevania.
So, Jungle Astyanax?
Love this game and i did beat it.
Stage 3 gives off strong Rastan vibes.
TurboGraffix16 no wonder ive not saw this one before looks great id love to stream it
Last boss = Homer Simpson
To me it's more like CV1 Dracula but without any ranged attacks
This game reminds me if Astyanax Arcade Game... Good game though...
Good game but Legendary Axe 2 was to me a classic
Definitely...facts.
I enjoyed playing through both of them !

same game designer, Tokuhiro Takemori
great game
魔境伝説やね
Half of the playthrough is literally just the last level. 😂😂
Weird that the second boss is a sentient rock...
Just be thankful the game didn't break out into an arkanoid end boss scene for that one battle.
This is basically the same as Torvak on Amiga and Atari ST

same as Adventure Island on the NES being a ripoff of the original Wonder Boy on the Sega Master System
Looks and sounds like a NES game, even tho is 16 bit...

Prehistorik meets Castlevania
Encino Man meets Castlevania the video game 😁

Never seen it in action until today but I remember wanting it at a young age. Glad I skipped it. Looks worse that Vigilante.
The astyanax by jaleco
I remember more poon jabbies.
Axe fighting, so easy even a caveman can do it!
If you just remove the boss of Stage 4 and the opening of Stage 5 from the game, you have a pretty good game here.
Top 20 PCE game, easy.

Loved this game, but also hated it. It was entirely too difficult.
I didn't know that Tekken's own mokujin was in this game & Portishead's Glory Box type sound was in this game L🤣L‼️
