I'll have to do this when I get a walnut blast but so far it's doing real well at 130K. Just did the valve cover gasket and upgraded the pcv and it looked surprisingly clean.
If you have never walnut blasted at this mileage you need to inspect the valves and the pcv. Most likely you have tremendous build up on your valves. It goes by milage. Inspect around 50k or so. Of course only applies if you have a DI motor.

Am going to follow your advice as my whole front of the car is under maintenancer (lol). Having fun and enjoying your videos. Thanks for the great work. The passion is also easy to sense.
The mount that comes with the can is purpose made to clamp onto the strut bar that he just zip tied it to. LOL. If he actually looked he would see it is the exact shape of that bar so it will be a perfect fit to clamp it to it. Sigh... Love your videos MAN!! Thank you!
Eventhough Toyota makes the best GDI system that I have heard of (by combining it with normal port injection and having it alternate between the two) if I had one with it I may still consider a catch can mod to futher enhance the reliability of the engine. Hell I might even do this for my gen 1 Mustang if I deem it necessary in the future.
You should mention this full circle..... If you do install a low side catch can AND it collects a lot of oil in a short period of time, there's a problem brewing with your turbos....... Best thing a catch can - can do, besides help lessen the need for valve cleaning, is point problem areas out. And if you've got 150k miles and no catch can and never cleaned your intake valves, you'd be misfiring like crazy and engine prob wouldn't idle lol. Just my .02
In most cases on high mileage BMWs, you'll need to walnut blast the valves first and then install the catch can to slow down the process of carbon deposits.
Cool video, definitely a must have on any direct injection. Btw I highly recommend the cowl filters from BMS. I'm sure you've been tempted to buy them but heard some BS about them being dangerous or something. Nothing happens except less heat soak and a much nicer sound especially from inside the car.
They're really not a good idea. You WILL get water on your cyl6 plug if you drive in the rain, and you also end up with more moisture coming into the cabin/evaporator area which will lead to stinky AC. The car was designed to have a low pressure spot on the bottom of the windshield while driving and deleting the cowl completely removes this. It's just a cheap fix for having to remove the cowl everytime you work on the engine. I went for the M3 cowl for this reason.
Yes exactly. Update when you check it in a few weeks. Then the folks who aren't that familiar with this catch can will see how much it really helps in a short period of time. Surprising how many turbo fanatics know all about they're WRX or Eclipse turbo but no idea about the catch can lol. Guess I was a newbie once too huh?

YOU NEED TWO OF THEM, not just one... Go back and look at the pics of my engine bay that I sent you on Instagram. You can see the double OCC's in the rear. It's the ONLY way to be as sure as possible that you aren't getting oil in your manifold. Also, you should do a cowl delete, and get rid of that heavy crap cabin filter system. You can buy the BMS cowl delete filters for $60. You get rid of a lot of weight off of your car, and it's so much easier to clean or work on your engine.
Do I really need 2? I've been running 1 for a good 6-7 months and have yet to see an actual pool of oil in the can. I'm still happy it's there but from what I see I'm not spraying enough oil for it to even collect. As for the cowl delete, I've been wanting to do it for a little while. @@GuerrillaGorilla023 That's because the high side catch can in this video hardly sees any oil. It's the low side that gets the valves all carbon up via ports inside the head. Google N54 external PCV.

you did put a catch can on the flapper valve , this is only one part of the pcv system , the n54 have a internal pcv system that run straigh from valve cover to intake head runner ... this will fix 1/8 of the oil that is going trough the intake , you need to block the head port in the intake runner !

I guess VRSF is the way to go. Ever since I heard the BMS one requires cutting the engine cover I wasn't too enthusiastic about oil catch can but this one seems to be a charm to install!

hello quick question, i have 2007 bmw E90 N46 engine, i dont have catch can installed and i have noticed there is also no drain hose connected to dip stick, and dipstick is closed by pliers by my previous car owner. is it safe to drive a car like that?
Maybe a lil too late of a comment, I would face down the 90* degree bent, due to the oil being heavier and air not pushing it enough for it to keep going throughout the hose therefore the oil is accumulating where it comes out of the engine and causing more issues.
I have the n52 engine with the magnesium cover. I installed an catch can right after the cover ventilation port and before the CCV , my only concern is about crankcase pressure , I read somewhere that the catch can can increasse the pressure in the engine … How is yours? Did you have any leak ?
So... BMWs are one of the few vehicles that do NOT need a catch can. They come with an "air oil separator" that does essentially exactly the same thing except it drains the oil back into the crank case. My daughter's G37 needs two catch cans because it blows the oil vapour directly back into the intake manifold... it gets gummed up and the throttle bodies and valves get carboned up. My friend's hemi blows dirty vapour into the intake too and a catch can did wonders. BMWs do not get any benefit from a catch can if the separator is maintained. You are literally removing oil that would otherwise be put back in your crank case.
The oil vapor passes over the valves and then into the engine. There is a reason the entire intake system gets coated inside with residue. That said, there are some modern engines like the B58 that don't have this issue. But engines like my N54 suffer from carbon deposits, meaning it'll benefit from an oil catch can. I've taken my car to get a walnut blast and I got to see first hand how bad those valve gets.

You are very lucky to have a free and advanced country and you have all facilities at your disposal. My country is under sanctions due to cruel and terrorist officials, and for this reason both cars and spare parts are offered at very high and outrageous prices. I have a BMW 320. I have a 2008 model that has lost many parts and needs to be replaced, such as the coils or the valve cover, which has severe oil leakage due to cracking, but unfortunately, here in Iran, there is nothing logical and beneficial to the people, thank you anyway. 😭
It stops carbon and oil combining and creating a paste, which builds up faster and is much more harmful. An EGR delete in combination with this would pretty much eliminate carbon buildup, and be the perfect solution if you can get around your local emissions testing.

Why didn’t you mount the can on the sway bar? You even grabbed the tab on the can lol
What is your favorite car you own?
Btw I’m still upset about the m4 video besides that good videos
Dude your supposed to mount the can on the strutbar. That little loop on the top of the can should come off.
long time watcher, first time noticer of youe weird fingees
Does anyone know if this kit directly fits the N53 as well? I know this is less of an issue with the N53 but still considerable.
Great vids as always cuz gracias hermano
Ever thought about getting an e31 850i
Oil catch can dont fix carbon build up. It just slows the build up after you clean it
It stops carbon and oil combining and creating a paste, which builds up faster and is much more harmful. An EGR delete in combination with this would pretty much eliminate carbon buildup, and be the perfect solution if you can get around your local emissions testing.
Did you have problems with the hose caving in
What size hoses are being used? Thanks :)
This is a kit that comes with all the hoses etc, i think theres a link in the description.
What is that silver metal thing , between your intake and your power steering reservoir?
Blow-off valve
Bro!! Ur fingers!! Wtf. Lol. They bend the wrong way. 🤣🤣
When you took a saw to that extra plastic....😂
Don't later BMW's have an oil separator system?
Wonder why manufacturers didn't think of this first
Planned obsolecence. And cheaper to make that way. :-/
Because owners wouldn’t bother to empty the can.
@@michaelhall9138 oh I forgot people are lazy kinda like me
