      Oh good! Yes! I use shapes as templates all the time. WIth engraving, it's really a great tool to get a good alignment on the metal. I have another video where I demo kind of an updated way to do this- and it shows how to engrave through infusible ink which is super fun. ruclips.net/video/8pbk-eFNdOM/видео.html I also have a ton of free engraving designs that I've added to my Free Library since I first wrote this post as well as an intro to engraving post that might be helpful for you . wellcraftedstudio.com/quick-start-engraving-with-cricut-maker/

    Love the tutorial. If you want a quicker way to leave the triangle there and not have to move it around so much, select the triangle to be in draw mode and leave the pen holder empty. It’ll draw it, but won’t engrave it like the pumpkin.

      @WellCraftedStudio  4 года назад

      Noted! I do show a little bit of it in my other videos. I try to let it start and go a few seconds now. It is kind of magical to watch. The engraving for the servers took about 30 min. but that was after duplicating it 3 times, so that essentially it was engraving the same design three times. However, I have done some designs that took hours. It all depends on the amount of detail in your design. Hope that helps!

    I made a spatula today but it really felt rough after, do you sand it or buff afterwards? Great tutorial, I had no idea you could move one item to another mat and then turn if off. I never even noticed that button was there to click on. I am going to learn so much watching all of your videos.

    • @WellCraftedStudio
      @WellCraftedStudio  5 лет назад +1

      Terry Skupowski I did not. But mine wasn’t really rough either. So it sounds like you had a deeper engraving. If you sand it you risk scratching the surface which will make it hard to see the engraving. Buffing it may help. You don’t want anything abrasive. I’m wondering about baking soda or barkeepers friend. You wouldn’t want to rub hard, just gently move across the top of your surface. Also, I would try this idea on the back of the object or a test object first...

    Hi! Thanks for your great videos! I have a project to engrave the handles of some vintage silverplate flatware. The handles are not too thick, just slightly over 1/16th of an inch, and flat enough to tape them down and put handle first into the machine i think, letting the spoon/fork end hang off the end.. I want to monogram just one letter on each piece. A hand engraver quoted me 50.00/piece to do this, (yikes) so looking to see if I could do it myself with some great tools like the Maker 3 with engraving tool. I have a ton of these pieces, so could afford some experimentation if necessary. My biggest concern with trying it, is that Cricut says they don’t recommend engraving any materials narrower than 1”. My flatware pieces are only about 1/2” wide, and smaller for some of the spoons. I only need one simple initial on them though. What do you think?

    • @WellCraftedStudio
      @WellCraftedStudio  Год назад +1

      I’d say try it! Cricut recommends a lot of things to be safe. But I’ve found you can push a lot of their limits (like thickness). As far as width, I’ve done things quite small- the problem there is shifting. Just be sure you use a new purple mat with double stick tape underneath. Make sure that you use blue painters tape on the handle.

    • @WellCraftedStudio
      @WellCraftedStudio  2 года назад

      Hmmm… I’ve never encountered this. I would try engraving something else (with a different file) and see if you have this problem again. If it doesn’t, then try testing with the same file. (I use metal flashing sheets to test engraving designs.) But off the cuff it sounds like something you need to contact Cricut support for.

  • @cally3763
    @cally3763 4 года назад

    Thanks for the video! I was just wondering how long the engraving took? I have 200 stainless steel products to engrave 😬 I’m not sure whether the engraving tool would be durable enough for this, and whether the time taken would be excessive.

    • @WellCraftedStudio
      @WellCraftedStudio  4 года назад +1

      Cally Wetherill I think it took maybe 35 min? And that’s because I did the duplicate 3x. So that ends up being 10 min. or so. That was a pretty simple design. The more complex the design (added pattern fill like crosshatching) and it can go a lot longer. The engraving tip does wear a little over time but it’s taken me almost a year and I engrave a ton before I felt I needed to replace my tip. I did have to oil the housing once.
      The thing with the Maker is that it can work without you being right there. So several people have gone ahead and engraved 2-3 servers at a time and then walk away to do housework for example. Another option is to buy a second maker and run them both at the same time. That’s a lot of extra cost but if this is a business for you it’s something you may want to consider investing in at some point.

    • @cally3763
      @cally3763 4 года назад

      @@WellCraftedStudio Wow thank you so much for all the helpful information! Maybe you're right and I can run four or five at a time, all in a row, and leave it running while I have clients in another room. The setup will be faster once I have a template too, I imagine.
      My other plan for stamping the steel was to have a custom logo stamp made, that I can stamp either using a hammer or an arbor press. Or to outsource it completely. Outsourcing would be the best option but obviously it depends on cost.
      Your video was amazing by the way, I hadn't even considered buying a Cricut but now I'm seriously thinking about it, as there are all sorts of things I could make for my beauty business, and I could perhaps sell b2b as well! If I buy one I will definitely be checking out more of your content. ❤️

    Hi! I am thinking about buying my first Cricut and have a few questions about the engraving capabilities. How small of a font size can the engraver handle? Can you engrave any metal? I have brass and copper sheets I would like to engrave. Also, which Cricut version do you need to do the engraving? Thank you!

    • @WellCraftedStudio
      @WellCraftedStudio  4 года назад +2

      SweetRoxyFire89 Hi! Oh my gosh it’s so awesome for engraving. I’m actually writing a workbook right now on engraving metal with the Maker. So I’ve been testing different metals. It engraves aluminum, anodized aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, silver plate, stainless steel, sterling silver, and pewter. It also engraved galvanized steel but I can’t get anything to show on it because of the zinc coating. As far as sheet metal I’ve tested it up to 16 gauge. It’s seriously a blast! As far as font size I guess I’ve never looked at what size it ends up being but it’s super small. I would say for sure it goes down to 12 pt. I’ll look later and add to this comment. ❤️
      I also have RUclips videos on engraving silver plate bookmarks, and I have a 16 Best tips for engraving that you’ll definitely want to watch once you have your machine.
      And thanks for asking- if you have anymore questions feel free to ask me. I like answering them.

    • @SweetRoxyFire89
      @SweetRoxyFire89 4 года назад

      Thanks so much for your quick response! I appreciate you making these helpful videos. Where will your workbook be available?
      The reason I asked these questions is because I’m looking to do the engraving instead of metal stamping. The metal stamps are 1.5mm which seems to be equivalent a 4-5 pt font. Does it go that small?
