I honestly was about to give in with acrylic engravings on my cricut maker..i have wasted so much because I couldn't align it properly. Thank you so much for your video, it actually is fun and rewarding now to engrave acrylic discs. X
Thank you. I'd been trying to figure out how to do this and wondered if a trick like this might work. Of course, if Cricut put more thought and effort into Design Space then these workarounds wouldn't be necessary.
I just bought my first blanks to try, (as soon as time permits) and have been browsing for how-to videos on YT. I am very grateful for your video and free file. Thanks so much!
Thank you. Only suggestion is to remind people what units you have your canvas set to , inches. Apart from USA and 3-4 other countries the set of the world used metric. I did get a blank misplaced because I hadn't realised this initially.
This is great!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! The one thing I don't understand how to put the canvas screen and prepare screen side by side or how to ghost a design element. Can you explain how you did this?
@@cleversomeday, when you out the blue part over the design @3:04 - is that also screen magic (a semi transparent shape you just overlayed ) or is that a thing you can do in Design space.
@@juliebadger6493 that was video magic, too. You can't put a transparent shape on the prepare screen in DS, but you can put a hollow shape if you attach the target shape set to draw to a separate dummy shape and then send it to a different mat, then move it to the first mat and butt it up to the upper left. Not sure that is worth the trouble, but it is an option.
im trying to get my design to print correctly on my acrylic blank. keeps coming out unalligned even tho I spent an hr aligning and trying to get this to print properly. ur video seems helpful but I didn't think shapes u choose from the "shapes" option in CDS, actually printed w rest of project. my shapes never are on mat when I go to print. how do I fix?
@@cleversomeday What kind of info? I did everything right but I have to guess at the size of the tags so they keep coming out wrong. Also I am totally new to this.
@@bkkorner if you are guessing at the size of the tags, then this process isn't going to work. As shown starting around 1:15 in the video, you need a shape that matches the exact size and shape of your blank. Everything else depends on that.
@@cleversomeday Yea but I did find one that matched the blank but it still didn't come out right. It engraved the mat instead of the tag. I'm not very good with numbers and measuring.
I watched the video at least 5 times, took notes and can't figure out why when I get to the last step Select All to bring in the dummy circle I don't get the choice to then turn off the blank shape, When you attach there doesn't seem to be a way to separate in order to grab the blank circle. Is there a step out of order? Thanks~
Click the small triangle next to the attached set to expand the set (which DS has just recently started condensing by default) and then you can click the eye on the blank's layer.
Thank you, makes a difficult task easy. Just curious for example I did use this method. I did notice if you decide to 'mirror' your engraving and then go to engrave it moves the dummy shape on mat, is there a work around for that ? Thank you again, enjoy your tutorials.
Okay I can’t seem to get it to work help please I don’t know what I’m doing wrong I’ve grouped everything but tiny dummy together then attached with dummy but it’s still not where I put it on the design Mat when I got to my prepare mat I want it at 3x 3 y but always stays in 1x1y
The instructions in the video are for placing the blank at 1,1. If you want to place at 3,3, use x= 3, y=3 when you get to the placement of the blank at around 2:10 on the video.
Bought a CriCut Joy unfortunately and am dumbfounded that where I put something in design space is not by default where it cuts it out in real life. These seems like it might work for me.
Not that I am aware of. Most common mistake is forgetting to attach. If that's not it, please provide more details via cleversomeday.com/contact so I can help.
@@cleversomeday Thanks for your quick reply. No idea what I was doing wrong, I restarted design space and it's now working as described. Thank you for all your content, your videos are extremally helpful for us beginners. 👍
Hmmm. haven't heard of that before and not sure what would cause it. If you continue to have that happen, please reach out to me at cleversomeday.com/contact so I can help.
You can move the shapes on the prepare screen, but not with numerical repeatability and you can't save the position. Please join me in asking Cricut for a what-you-see-is-what-you-get layout mode.

Game changer!!! No more wasted blanks!!!! Thank you!
Really needed this about 20 minutes ago. Glad I found it...Thanks!
thank you so much for posting this i have been struggling with the centering on blanks i think this is a game changer for me

Had such a problem fitting my image in the right place on my acrylic blanks... this tutorial solved my issue... thank you
I love this technique. I’ve been looking for how to set my projects.
Oh this looks so easy to follow!!! I'm about to give this a go for the first time
Been watching all your videos, they are kind of addicting 😃
Such an awesome tip, thank you for sharing this.

I recommend everyone use imperial units for this process because that's what the margins and mat grid are based on.
Love watching your videos...so informative and so well done..thank you

Video magic. Unfortunately, there's not a way to see everything at the same time otherwise.
Oh, I bet I could grab a screen shot with SnagIt and then put it side by side.
Thanks for your quick response BTW!!

Would need more info to troubleshoot, but be sure you attach to the dummy shape and doublecheck your counting.

This will work for Joy, except that the position of the dummy shape would be x=.125 and y=.125” because the margin is smaller on the smaller machine.
Hi followed and saved thank you but hope to not sound too stupid how do I change the image to a different one than I used for template? Thank you
select the attached set, click detach, delete the image, replace with your next image, select all and attach.

How did you ghost the circle in on the prepare page?
in a page layout program for demo purposes. you can't do that in DS, unfortunately.
Has something changed? Can't seem to get this to work.
