Ive been watching your videos for years now with very little understanding of what was actually happening, but I was still always listening and trying to figure out what was happening. Now this year in high school im taking chemistry and im doing great because everything ive been watching in your videos and other videos is starting to make sense in my head. Thanks for the great videos Cody.
My guess is the camera since it seemed like every time the clock was off the image would have been harder to compress due to something changing or perhaps it took a little time to readjust to a different amount of light.
The content level of your videos is almost unmatched on RUclips. I cannot comprehend why there are people pushing to get strikes against this channel. This is REAL science. This is exactly the reason why we know how to refine metals, because people sat and figured this stuff out, and it is awesome to watch modern people using these techniques outside of a laboratory environment. Keep it up Cody, this is what RUclips, and the internet in general is all about, not little kids playing Minecraft.
"Sir, we used all our silver to refine the gold. What should we do?" "I dunno, do we have any other chunks of even less precious metal lying around?" - metallurgists, probably
Cody puts a lot of time into making these videos; coming up with an idea, preparing for it, doing it, filming it, editing it. It's not a trivial amount of work. Chucking a couple bucks in the hat to show your appreciation is something you should do anyway, if we all did Cody would be able to spend a lot more of his time making this content that we all enjoy so much. We have to support the things we love or they will die and it literally only takes a dollar or so when we all contribute. I've seen channels that I enjoyed but didn't think to support turn into RUclips turds full of clickbait, over-reactions and worst of all a tool for soulless advertiser shilling and it wasn't their fault they just needed to make a living and because people like myself didn't think to support them they were forced to either stop making content or turn to garbage. *Holding glowing hot crucible with tongs, those with bare hands* Oh its hot. Cody 2018 I genuinely think this is the best representation of the channel, Cody explaining things very well and then instantly does something that would be horribly unsafe for people to do were he to not have so much time invested in this kind of thing.
I love how Cody explores every little facet of science in his videos, right down to observing the convection of the silver crystals. You sir are a welcome influence and inspiration for our future Tom Edisons and Nikola Teslas of this world. Thank you for thoroughly stimulating my metaphorical chemistry and science boner for years.
This is one of the coolest videos ive seen yet, love the time lapse. I kinda wish i had you as a chemistry teacher... then again the chem teacher i had was amazing herself, shes what sparked a love for these types of videos.
what right do people on youtube have to demand anything from cody? that's the whole point of patreon. you support him financially and he gives you the ability to in-part dictate what content he produces. if you watch his youtube videos but dont care enough to donate money to him, you have no right complaining when he does something like the gold price incident. people who get upset over stuff like that make me worry about the future of humanity
Could you do a Titanium refining video? Probably not worth your money or time to do it in practice. But I'll be happy with just an explanation of the process. Just want to know exactly how hard it is. Ti is as abundant as Aluminium, but tougher by weight. The reason it isn't everywhere is because it's so costly to refine.
First you have to extract the titanium from ore with a stream of chlorine gas at high temperatures, then it has to be heated to like 2200 degrees with a reducing metal under an inert atmosphere in a steel reaction vessel and held at that Tempe for a few days until it's done reacting. It's not really something you can do at home.
I heard of this thing called freedom of information.. Cody's been proponent of it quite some time. Because the value of the gold was so essential on the video, it was kinda weird to then censor one number because of "concern of public jumping the gun". What made those people in Patreon so trustworthy that they wouldn't start hoarding gold from ebay? Buck a month makes you smart? People with access beyond paywall do know what to do and the others don't? Yeah, that was not the Cody's proudest moment. Besides that, i am happy subscriber and will be long into the foreseeable future. // No one is immune to criticism
Alaric Balthi the object, is Cody doesn't seem to be the best at costing out every consumable used. Chemicals and electricity are part of the cost. If he calculated in time, it would probably always be a loss at these low volumes.
@Alaric Balthi: I think the idea is that if a bunch of his patrons jump on a bad investment, it's hurting a lot fewer people than if a few of his subscribers jump on it. (Also, if they have money to be patrons, they're less likely to need a good ROI to get by.)
Thanks Cody, I'm sorry RUclips is being so rough on you. I appreciate your videos and find you as a legitimate content creator. I figure you have some troll from another science channel is after you. There is no reason to flag your content.

Next time cast your copper into a open grid/lattice instead of a monolithic copper turd, and you won't have to wait so long for it to react the silver out of solution. :) Also it seems like an air stone or a stir bar would be of use here.
I was wondering why he didn't use an air stone, maybe this was to reduce the amount of nitrogen dioxide that was produced from the inquarting? Can you eleborate if you see this Cody?
+vmp916 easy way would be to use one half of a waffle iron :D or just do like Cody did, except instead of digging out a trench in the mold, dig out a grid.
Or screw casting altogether and use ezaf to acquire stripped copper wire zero need to remelt and could have hooked up to a DC converted power supply with a zinc cathode/ anode to expedite the entire process and a stir bar/ airstone really would not have helped unless the mix was kept at a constant regulated / elevated temp which would have also expedited the process
