That's pretty darn cool that you got more value in gold then you spent on the material in your last video. I imagine you probably only made a couple dollars an hour for your time after processing costs, but it still gets the mind stirring. A tip if you need some concentrate peroxide on the fly: Just throw one of those 3% bottles in the freezer. The water freezes and falls out of solution leaving peroxide at around ~30% concentration that can be poured right out into a different container.
+Cody'sLab I think I learned of it at random stumbling on a video from a nutritionist or some such thing years ago. I was a bit stunned it wasn't a more commonly known method, it works quite well and takes 0 effort. A friend of mine also concentrates his apple cider alcohol in that way, but that's a different story.
your channel is one of my new favorites :) i'm a 20 year old girl studying design in the UK, but i've always been passionate about science. chemistry was the weakest of my three, but i loved experiments all the same. it's kind of comforting and nostalgic to watch your videos and remember the sort of experiments we used to do in school :)
Cody, that blue gemstone in the right pile looks like topaz. My mother makes jewlery, so I am no expert, but, i am pretty sure its blue topaz. It's awfully blue for aquamarine, those are *_usually_* more teal colored, and its not blue enough to be sapphire, sapphires are usually a deep dark blue. Blue topaz is commonly a light sky blue though, with less green than an aquamarine has. It may be the color balance of the camera tho. Telling topaz and aquamarine apart by color alone is nearly impossible tho, but 'ideal' aquamarines are usually richer in color and more teal then that.
Love the way the gold just seems to solidify into a gold dust in the solution in the solution once the Distilled water is added! That is just so cool!!! I love this series! Keep up the awesome work my friend and I'll see ya' next time!
This is the only video of your that i know a lot about. I am a professional refiner here in Denmark. I also do quite a bit of amateur refining/smelting. I really enjoy seeing your process in your video's with good explanations.
This is currently one of my favorite RUclips series; second only to your mine series. Gold refining is something I've been thinking about getting into since I have access to tons of scrap electronics with gold pins. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and would have to figure out a solution to ventilation, lol. Keep it up! =D
+TheBlackBeltPanda What the others are saying, or look into checking if you can get access to the rooftop area? Probably not in most cases... but who knows you might have a nice landlord! If he does say no you could always go with proper ventilation in a room + a fume hood to extra fumes if its within your options. Alternatively maybe a project for the summer holidays? Perhaps you could go "visit your parents" and do the stuff there if they have more suitable free space for it for example.
+Cody'sLab The stone you believe to be aquamarine appear, to me, to be too dark. I think that i could be a topaz, blue zircon, apatite, or possibly a corundum
I enjoy your fun and unpretentious way of approaching chemistry and science while still being at least relatively safe. I end up laughing most videos. Great work with your videos. Thanks very much for sharing, it has inspired me to rediscover my love of chemistry in a less formal amateur setting.
This Channel is so cool. You kinda demonstrate, that if one has the proper knowledge, the world around you becomes a playground. The little things expand to something, you can dive into.
Cody, I know you've probably heard this before, but your videos saved my life. Whenever I feel shitty I'll just watch your videos even though a lot of what you say just goes right over my head. So this is my long way of saying we love you Cody.
Been watching a lot of his old videos and I’m experiencing a lot of audio problems. Is it my RUclips or phone messing up or just the Audio off track in the actual video?
@cody Thanks for making all your videos, Its hard to find people who seem to share the same hobbies as me and its nice to hear you explain things and invite all of us into your life! Cheers from California!
This may be to personal but if you have no qualms with sharing, how do you get the money to fund all of these experiments? Have a nice day cody cheers.
+Cody'sLab you chan is growing fast cody, u are just working towards that, and gold extraction and mining seem to get a lot of atention from viewers, not so cool as making 2h2o though ;\
You might have lost money to begin with, but you can bet that the value of the gold is going to hold up better than the value of the currency you spent on it
dogefort If Cody bought that gold with bitcoin then it wouldn't be such a sure bet, but I'm pretty certain that Cody would have used US currency like a normal US citizen
Yay another metal refining episode. This is a good show to just chill and watch science. I also guess Aquamarine. Also, where did you get that jewlery so cheap? Fuck the Gold, that Diamond probably pays for the parcel
+asefvdfzbzdfbz um what? that looks like almost 1 kt, even ok quality is easy over $1000 and that looks like a really nice diamond. Thats some real money
+Verlisify Diamonds are technically just about as worthless as a CZ. Diamond vendors only have an interest at buying at prices way way under what there buying directly from a wholesale company, which buys them way way WAY under directly from De Beers. In other words, a $5000 diamond from a vendor, is about $1000 from a wholesale *if that*, which means a vendor will buy for hundreds if your lucky. How ever, if you go to a very, very trusted mom&pop diamond outlet, they'll pay above wholesale price just to display good business practices.
Dude, you're so legit!! Absolutely amazing. After your mine excavation videos you have quickly become the most "looking forward to" uploader I'm subscribed to. Thank you so much for investing your time and person life in to this!!!!
+dangel angello Granted this was a while ago when I last looked into it, but people had reached a bit of a concencus that the amount of discussion in the comments did contribute to search rankings and how likely youtube is to suggest the video to others. I suppose it is/was used as a measure of how interested people are in the subject, and if its worth their time to write a few words while watching or after watching.
I could watch these refining videos forever. There's something about turning metal into liquid and back to metal with no loss, it's as close as magic as possible with the laws of physics that are in place, or what we have knowledge of so far.
Next time, try and do a collaboration with blendtec. Their blender will do better according to the AvE review of it. And the collab would be funny. You could also collab with colin furze asking him to come up with a manic crusher tool powered by a jet engine.
im currently in college to get a degree in chemistry and one of my life goals is to have a sample and ring of every (safe) element with symbols on a flat face and possibly the electron configurations on the top, but my most recent project is to collect silver quarters and dimes and use nitric acid to purify the silver until i have enough for a ring and possibly way down the line the same with gold and circuit boards, anyways i love seeing the chemistry behind everything and by far your videos are the most interesting out of all of the chemistry related channels.
+Cody'sLab Huh that's surprising, I know a friend who can't get his pilots license because he's on a no-fly list from buying 1 pound of salt-peter from a hardware store, and you go far beyond salt-peter

Cody I have one bit of advice on using the blender to expose the base metal. Next time pour in a cup or two of salt or sugar before starting the blender. This stops most of the bouncing and actually speeds up the process. Doesn't break the blender vessel and easily washes away with plain water. I use this method (salt) when scratching gold plated pins from salvaged electronics. Just a hint - not a critique. Thanks for the video - always learn something.

+Verlisify Diamonds aren't that expensive.
+asefvdfzbzdfbz um what? that looks like almost 1 kt, even ok quality is easy over $1000 and that looks like a really nice diamond. Thats some real money

I use this method (salt) when scratching gold plated pins from salvaged electronics.
