  • This simple golf tip makes the golf swing easy to learn
    Are you an arm swinger or body swinger?
    Arm swingers tend to put lots of effort into hitting the golf ball further but don't get the distance they want. They also seem to be much more inconsistent.
    The body swingers are completely the opposite. Effortlessly more powerful and always more accurate no matter their age.
    So whats the difference?
    If you are an arm swinger you're relying on your arms for both power and control. Your arms aren't the strongest part of your body and as they have a large range of motion it will be virtually impossible for you to control them and the golf club consistently.
    You will know some body swingers at your golf club. They have a swing that is easy on the eye and seems to hit the golf ball miles without any effort. Body swingers come in all shapes and sizes. They can be a senior golfers or junior golfers but what they all have in common is they are simply more consistent than the average golfer.
    Their secret is they have learnt to build their power and coordination from the ground up. They use ground reaction forces throughout their swing and in this weeks golf video I'm going to show you how you can develop the feel of a body swing.
    I believe if you want to get better at this game it's one of the most important things you can learn. The problem is it's always been difficult to coach someone how to develop the correct feel.
    UNTIL NOW!
    This golf drill will really help you to feel what you need to do to build your golf swing.
    Hope you enjoy

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
    Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
    I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
    On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
    Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumbleI’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

    Danny,
    I have been taking tips from you and Clay Ballard for the last year, and after watching this video it all came together. I was rotating hips, lite grip, and etc.
    This video corrected issues with rotating hips to wide out, and not getting elbow far enough into the body.
    My Driver toping and accuracy went up considerable! Now I'm hitting the 7 iron 175-180 yards with a range ball w/ good rotation and lower body energy. Thanks!

    This is honestly the best golf video I have seen. I was hitting my irons pure and where I wanted, then something changed mid-round and I could NOT hit my irons for 2 months. Every time I approached the ball I tried a million different things and had so many things going through my head and I could not get them back. By simply not caring and just swinging the club back and forth it has me back to hitting my irons again.

    Danny I watched this video prior to todays early morning round. I consciously tried to apply this method to my Drivers and irons. I've never been as consistent with my Driver (I have a tendency to pull) and I've never been so consistent out of the box. With the exception of 1 or 2 poor iron swings My hits were solid. It really helped me score my lowest round of 82. I'll end the season happily on that score - thank you for this tip.

    Wow. Just tried this on my simulator .... added 10-15 yards to my 6-iron with a nice draw flight. I translated this lesson as post-up (and pivot around) the right leg going back, and post-up (and pivot around) the left leg coming down. No mind-clogging thoughts about how this happens or what the various body parts are doing; none of that. Just post-up and pivot, post-up and pivot. Amazing to get a great new feel like this from a 10 minute video. Good work!

    Wow! This is eureka moment to me. This is one of the best, if not the best, video instruction i have seen in YT. I was confused about using my arms and body. I cannot seem to synchronize them together, leading to inconsistencies. By letting my arm just relaxed and just hanging from the shoulder socket, I can generate more speed using my larger muscles, that is, the legs/body muscles. And also, the forward shaft-lean is automatic as your arm automatically lagging behind while your body is turning. Thank you Danny

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  3 года назад

    • @goldhunter06
      @goldhunter06 3 года назад

      @@DanielMaude Thanks for the reply Danny. When you were doing the drill, I noticed that we were not moving your arm (or pulling the rubber updward with your arms). You were just pulling the rubber by rotating your body using your legs. That is when I realized that, although I was using my legs to turn my body, I was also engaging my arm or upper body. It was hard to synchronize the legs and the upper body. Most of the time, my upper body will dominate and I have the tendency to push to the right off my target (I am a left-handed golfer). However, if I just relax my arms, just let them hanging loosely from my shoulders (or turn them off), and just responding to my body turn (using just my legs), I can hit the ball solidly and not pushing it anymore; and I can produce a whipping action (as what you are calling catapult), faster club head speed. In addition, I am more balanced too because my arm just are just wrapping around. If the shoulder and arms are under tension or engaged, my arm will pull me off balance and cannot get a good finish. I even tried doing this with my Flatballs (training balls) and I am hitting them better. Thank you.

    Nice one Danny. This summarises and articulates the concept that I had landed on from watching your lesson since the first lockdown but I haven't seen it explained so simply. I was absolutely an arm swinger but I have been transitioning. I started with the lower body movement and had some good distance results. More recently I've been focusing on driving the swing speed from the shoulder rotation almost feeling like the arms are being whipped around. It's a very powerful feeling. Of course the lower platform needs to be in place and the shoulders follow slightly behind. This journey hasn't been easy but massively rewarding. Thanks so much for your high quality coaching content.

    Awesome Danny! You actually answered a question that I asked way back in the midst of time when I first started watching your videos. However I think you sensed I wasn't ready for the answer then and never replied. I wondered why quite a lot of golfers seemed to do that little shift onto the lead foot and put there club ahead of them just before a swing, and this answers it :-)
    You've definitely made me more of a body swinger, however this drill should help me keep that feeling, especially on days when I'm not feeling that confident on the range or course.
    A video I'd love to see you do is on ball position and stance, just before lockdown I had a sesh (which I think I told you about) whereby I really tried to pay attention to ball position, and it did seem to have a positive effect. However It didn't really translate to my longer irons or woods.

    • @rolirolster
      @rolirolster 3 года назад

      I guess it's really the position for my 5/4 irons and hybred. I think I'm putting them too far forward in my stance.
      I suppose I just want a way to consistently be standing at the right distance from the ball, with it in the right position if that makes sense?
      I never feel quite comfortable over the ball with anything longer than a 7 iron.

    Hey Danny, enjoying this consistent thread in your training. The problem I find is, with my more lofted irons, I can generate lag and power using the body swing and shifting weight to left as backswing finishes, however the shallower the loft, the more often I am slicing the ball. The club face is not closing naturally at contact.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  3 года назад

      Start by checking your grip and then start playing around with the club face. See how shut you can get it to create a hook. The more you play with it the more you will learn the feel of what to do

      @@DanielMaude so an update....I rewatched the catapult method tuition and realised I was trying to hit the ball with a closed face and exerting too much control...my body wasn't leading the arms correctly and I was not allowing any "flow" to occur. Once I worked on that rotation and lag, things improved with the 6 iron. Keep up the good work.

  • @fretless05

    I had another teacher say something similar about swinging with the body and one key feature he stressed but you left out was that to make this work, you have to keep your wrists loose. As soon as you introduce tension in the wrists, the club won't whip around as it needs to. In essence, the entire swing is from the body and the arms and hands have to be loose so the body can create the hinge that accelerates the club through the hitting zone.

    Danny, I’m naturally left handed but in any sport where two hands are required, golf and cricket being examples, It’s been instinctive to set up and play right handed. However, Moving my body in the golf swing isn’t as natural this way. Always thought I’d strike the ball much better if only I could get my body working the same way as when I skim a stone with my left hand, but it just won’t when swinging a golf club and setting up as a right hander. Tried more than once to swing left handed but no way. Any thoughts on how I can get my body to move more naturally swinging right handed?
    Great tips keep coming. Thanks for all that you’ve helped me and others with to date👍

    Hi Danny, this makes perfect sense and it’s great the way all you videos give the same body-swing message from different perspectives.
    Just to clarify the initial backswing movement, I’ve always focused on turning my shoulders. Is it better to think of turning hips as the initial focus?

    I've developed a little feel drill at home. Lean against the edge of a door, take your stance, your coxis should be resting against the door. If you're using just arms the door won't move. Helping me keep the feel throughout the week.

    Great content and informative coaching session the last 3weekly sessions have been really helpful and changing the dynamics of our swing thoughts.Really like the move of the back swing from forward of impact I’ve been working on this for a while and it really extends the back swing with out thinking and helps so much with the timing and follow through still working on the rotation in the finish .Can you put your thoughts on different lies ie up/down above and below feet for approach shots into the green great stuff Danny and beers up.

    i think bill mehlhorn has a point when he tells us we should naturalise the swing. but, i'm not sure he demonstrates it quite right with regard to footwork. but, the principle of his argument is totally correct. if we turn to look to at something, or someone, to our right, we activate the muscles in the left side of our right leg to clear the way for the left side of our chest to turn. and, the swing should work the same way- but without the head turning to the right. and, the left hand and arm drill that mehlhorn does- with regard to naturalising the swing- is totally correct. the movement may look a bit narrow but when the right hand goes on the club the arc of the swing will be widened. when the wrists cock, we don't hinge the wrist up we press down with the heel of the left hand.

      If you allow your hips to turn back, it will free up your ability to turn your shoulders/back much easier. At 72, with back problems, I'm able to make a 90 degree turn fairly easy with no discomfort. Also, stay Relaxed, no tension.

    I have always been an arm swinger. I had a poor lesson when I started playing where I was told to pull with my left hand at the start of then the downswing. Ever since I use my arms which swipes across my body as my chest turns and have a massively open cub face. Your other lesson describing the linear nature of the swing was very helpful to start improving my swing, as my downswing thought process was to feel like I was pulling my left hip back, then keeping my 'triangle'. In your video you describe forming the 'platform' and lean on your leading leg. Should this be a smooth transition or is this a more deliberate action? which seems similar. I'll be down the range Wednesday afternoon.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  3 года назад

      Yes, the transition to the lead leg actually happens before you complete your backswing
