i like that you pulled us in on what you could have done better. In my opinion, despite solving the issue a retrospective process is quite vital for any person who wants to be better at what they do.
Thanks! That's a great compliment.
Pinned!
Friend, will 1.6 tdi cayc also check this valve on the pump?
Don't be so hard on yourself you found the problem on short order once you were able to get going on the car! I am sure you saved the owner a lot of money vs going to the dealer. You are a great vw diesel mechanic and don't ever sell yourself short! Love your videos thanks for the continued content!
Thanks for watching.
Wow self analysis of trouble-shooting skills! Possibly the best car technician ever. I'm a new subscriber.
thanks for watching.
Much respect for a man to leave his ego aside telling he could have done better in his diagnostics!
ah shucks.
Great video as always. Thank you for all of your content.
Thanks for watching.
It's always easier to diagnose the problem as you begin to eliminate other possibilities. I subscribed to you because I can tell you are quite experienced. Thanks
thank you!
I just wish i had people like you maintain my car
I try to train other mechanics. Thanks for the compliment.
Great Trouble shooting!
You got to the bottom of it!
Don’t beat yourself up about not doing the things like feeling pumps for running.
You know your stuff!
Thanks for the info!👍
thanks for supporting my channel by watching and commenting.
@@CoolAirVw hie my brother is how are you, thanks for your video and am for the first time doing the common rail jetta 5.on two pumps activation how do I do it wih the vcds. I did not understand on that one. Without spraying quick start its not starting and when it starts it does not Rev up and the vcds is recording no faults. Thanks for the video
@@stanmanguma9114 Be careful using starting fluid. (dont!). doesn't the video show how?
I watched the whole video; iam amechanic too, older than you, and just by the way you remove and put those fuel hoses and clamps back, the care you took to check for metal specs in the fuel, and the care you take to prime the filter and the high pressure diesel pump , i can see you have good experience,no problem for anyone to put their car in your hands; thanks
thanks so much. Feel free to share your wisdom and advice here and I'm sure it will help folks.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. See you soon for my timing belt change.
Ok! Great!

Loved the comments at the end. Great observations.
thanks for watching.
outstanding ! Always nice when the fix is that easy.
Thanks for watching TurboFart!
contributed today on kansascitydti. well worth the money. Got 375k miles on my MK5 diesel. Recently, had once incident of no start. Running through my checklist
thanks! make sure fuel pump is working/.
I dont know why youre bashing yourself for but you did a great job of finding and fixing the problem. well done.
awe, shucks!
Excellent vid, thank you, but you should be a little tidier and put some cloth etc to stop diesel dripping all over when you pulled the top of the fillter off, but thanks anyway for the vid
Sorry I triggered your OCD. I'll try to do better in the future
As I can see you know what you're doing and you know what to do fixing a car. I remember these two guys, so-called mechanicians trying to repair my car...after two days I have been left with nothing...no results. All the best for you and I respect your knowledge...
Thank you.
I´m learning soo much - thx.
Glad to hear it!
Wonderful work...
thanks!
Look behind the orange weather seal inside the plug. There is a purple slider that is the secondary locking device. First slide it across, then reseat the terminal, and slide the lock back across. Thanks for the great video. I love my VWs!
this one didnt have the purple lock. Different style connector.
Thank yuo sir i hope i learned a lot of tecnich to diagnose dis common rail problem
Glad it helped
Nice video and explanation 👍
Than You for this, it was very good, that You didn't saw that cable at first - and shared more knowledge ;) it sounds that need to change these sparkle making parts BEFORE they do that.
welcome
Never saw any cables, bad idea.
Job sorted happy customer.
Don't sell yourself short. I like seeing fuel flows etc. Got to keep my 2012 sportwagen going.
I got lots of CR tdi videos.
I bought myself a JSW TDI post diesel-gate and it's value has increased by almost 50%. Never selling it!
And these videos are spot on.
Straight facts, thank you sir
thanks for watching
Great video! I'm surprised a disconnected fuel pump didn't trigger a fault code of its own. I'm currently half way through diagnosing a similar engine with no start - I'll scan for codes with the pump disconnected and see if I get any,
I don think there was.
Enjoyed your video, have the same problem at the moment, a thought for my mechanic..
thanks
Good work took all the steps correctly.
thanks
My 2007 corolla verso 2.2 Diesel will start the first time without a problem and idle normally. After about one minute or so, a warning light will show up on the dash then after another 30 seconds, the engine cuts out.
When the engine dies and I get the P0093 code but I can restart again without a problem and the whole scenario starts over this happen until the engine warms up. once the temperature reaches 60+ and the blue light goes off the car works fine the rest of the day.
I cleaned the EGR, polished the glow plugs and tested them, put a new fuel filter, tried a working SCV from my mate's car, and did a full tank with fuel treatments.
None of the above-mentioned worked however the car performance is much better.
I tried to warm up the fuel rail line with a hot cloth soaked in hot water and will top it with hot water every now and then and the car did not cut off but won't drive as normal unless the engine itself is warmed up.
Once it is warmed up it runs fine. Any idea what else could it be? Thank you
Not sold in usa. I have no knowledge of those cars.
great video mate!
thanks for watching!
Great video and diagnose
I have metal in mine.. cfhc
Self cretiqe is good:) And thanks for sharing info about the hpfp, hope my piston will be allright untill i fix it:(

you no about diesels 👌 and that was not a bad diagnose👌👍
thanks.
Good find 👍🏼
I have a 2013 golf with the same engine. Im having rpm jumping up and down. I’m thinking I could check the tank lift pump and low pressure pumps to see if the flow is similar to what you had.
Great video, thanks for the knowledge!
thanks for watching
Also check your oil cooler and auxiliary water pump. Totally unsure of why but after replacing both (confirmed faulty) the idle became stable. From what I've seen oil leaks can also throw egr codes. Bizarre I know but I'm guessing it throws out the vacuum pressure. Lots of sensors in these motors and it tries to compensate (think if you will) for all sorts of issues. A diesel engineer could explain it better I think.
Thank you Sir,very helpful video,
your welcome
Good find well done
thanks.
On the contrary sir, if you had found that wire first and fixed it, the likelihood of further checking for "sparklies" may have never occurred. So at least there's piece of mind knowing those injector screens are metal free and the fuel filter had no bacteria growth.
Plus, we got to see how to prime the pumps using VCDS. I'd say great job all around!
ah shucks! thanks!
Great video!
thanks!
you are good,thanks
So nice of you
Thank you very informative.

ah, shucks.... thanks.
Thank you for this video.... I have a 2000 new beetle with a tdi diesel,,, has a mind of its own.... starts sometimes,, and sometimes it don't start. Makes my wife screams. LOL
When it starts, it runs good. There is no pattern to why sometimes it don't start. But wait a day,,, then it will start. haha
1st the one in this video is very different than your 2000. scan for trouble codes. check crank position sensor maybe? I think I have one video on that for your engine.
Good retrospective
thanks!
good upload,,nice topic

Have same issue with passat b6,to notice here the auxiliat pump from the tank located under the backseats is mainly cause the problems, car just stop and on the diagnose doesn't show you up this part of the car
Sometimes the auxiliar fuel.pump just stack and then working again
I replace it and car working fine
Not quite getting the point of what your saying, but I'm glad your car is fixed.
Good work,good video👍

still diagnosed it while running your shop at the same time well done
do you have to do the same thing?
@@CoolAirVw just starting out on my own Richard so just me i am mobile at the minute no garage yet but i have worked in a busy garage before and understand the pressures involved.
I think you did a Great job diagnosing the problem! Just subscribed to your channel as I have a 2011 Golf tdi that quit yesterday and am trying to troubleshoot after towed home. VCDS shows codes:P0087, P020D, P020B, P020A, P020C, P1004, P1006,P1007and P1005.
Sure hope it's not the High pressure fuel pump! I will begin at the fuel filter like you did in this video. Any other suggestions?
pull out he solenoid on the HPFP and make sure there is no metal under it.
Wonderful 👍👍

Good video I found your video and they just replied the hpfp but the car won't start they thought it was bad so they got a second one and it did the same thing so I'm going to check that sensor
which sensor are you going to check?
@@CoolAirVw the one you found the wire lose because I bought 2 hpfp and they both have no pressure.
@@CoolAirVw they also changed the timing belt when they did the hpfp on the car. Your right when that hpfp blows up its $$$$
@@EdwardHart38826 You said, "the one you found the wire loose". but that wasn't a sensor it was a fuel pump. Who is this "they" anyway? If the HPFP fails it usually sheds of tons of metal and cloggs injectors to the point it wont run. Did "they" replace injectors?
greetings, it's the same engine and I decided to clean the egr and the gas valve, by the way I cleaned some connectors on the exhaust, pump, maf sensor, put it all back and the car won't start, it starts without any signs of ignition, like in the video.. before that it was the car was working fine, I just wanted to clean those things as a precaution and now it won't start, maybe the computer read some error?
I often see metal particles when doing filter changes on vw tdi engines.
Metal makes me worry.
Hello, I have the same problem, except that the start is cold even at 0 degrees of ambient temperature, it starts at quarter turn, but when cold at 16 degrees it takes a long time to start, no fault on vcds

Hey good evening.i hope u can help me ...been going crazy with one of these vechiles..cranks but now start.ive fone the following.
Done a diagnostics rest and shows low fuel rail pressure.
Changed the crankshaft sensor.
Changed the fuel pressure regulator.
By the high pressure injection pump the fuel just comes out like a normal electric fuel pump.dont know if this is correct ..
Please any advice will b appreciated.

I wont to see something about diesel injector on live data .
how can you find out a leak injector on live data what does its data PID look like ?
how can you find out a plugged injector on live data ? what does its data PIDs look like ?
where can I find some training or resource on diesel injection systems like TDI on vag group and D4D on toyota , CDI on MR
some years have mg/stroke in measuring blocks for each cylinder.
Great
I was hoping you would have the pressure tester back on that pump and seen what the psi was.
What was the pressure afterwards with both pumps working?
Hey man, awesome video. I'm about to invest in a 167,000 mile 2011 TDI Jetta Wagon very similar to this one. Would you reccomend a preventitive High-Pressure Fuel Pump replacement given the car's mileage? I'm already thinking the Fuel filter will get replaced. If its a common thing, I'd like to mitigate a catastrophe. Thanks!
sure if your made of money. Otherwise just drive.
Im having a hard start that has been kicking my ass. Codes stored for the cam position sensor but no cel. Sensor changed still the same. The wires was checked back to the ecu and they are good. Local shop thinks its the ecu. Do you have anythings I should check?
I have the same problem with my 2013 Passat tdi. Treble code P0087. I change the filter and check the fuel pressure regulator and I foun metal there. It’s that ok?
Yellow seal piss ya off ya you am good really good vids bro
Did you clean the spilt diesel? I'll bet it reeked of it for ages!!!!
I started having problems with my golf mk4 1.9 asv in the mornings..It cranks couple of times until it starts then every other time for the day i try to start it starts on first try really easy.. Will replace my fuel pump and filter next week and reply down if it fixed the porblem in case someone else has the same problem.
Smasham! How did it turn out?
@@CoolAirVw My mk4 has a bosch pump and it was leaking.. The seal had to be replaced, it cost me around 100e.. It works fine now
@@Nemanja9776 Thanks. We reseal those all the time.
When u switch the car on, with a good tank pump, is the fuel supposed to reach the fuel filter side?? Mine doesn't and from the tank it only squirts after the click the after that nothing come out.
yes.
I hope that is my problem. Quite a bit of fuel did drip out overnight and wondering what else could be wrong after changing my timing belt and not starting. 🤔
Maybe priming fuel system will fix it????
@@CoolAirVw I primed the fuel system with xtool for vw, skoda, and Audi. It does it in 2 second intervals and did it like 40 times to make sure and it still won’t fire up. However maybe it will today beings there may have been air trapped in the system. I’m going to hook up my scanner and see if it’s throwing any codes and will report back anything I find. Thank you for your reply!
I checked the connection and all is good. Hooked up my obd scan tool and not throwing any codes. My buddy is an ex mechanic and he said he had to try and start a car like 30 times before it started and had to let it run for 20-30 minutes before it started idling good. He said it was a Chevy car and couldn’t remember model.
Just replaced my timing belt and 2011 vw Jetta 2.0 tdi cjaa won’t start. Why I’m here and wondering if my connection isn’t full seated as they didn’t give you that much slack in the wires. I primed the fuel pump and hope this is the issue! Any other ideas are appreciated!
did you ever solve this problem?
I have a 2013 passat tdi that went through this no start issue. After the dealer had the car for 2 months, and replacing the injectors and fuel pump. They give me the car back and after driving about 20 miles the check engine comes on and reads low fuel pressure. This has happened to me twice after taking it back to the dealer for the first time they fixed it. Any advice would be helpful
My advice, take it back to the dealer, enjoy your loaner car.
I have a question. Can a Injector pump have Air locked in it? The fuel runs back from the Injectors when I shut off the vehicle. Then I have to prime to get it started.
the vehicle in this video doesn't have an injection pump. Assuming you have an injection pump( up to about 03) then you should watch videos that apply to your car. If your injection pump is repeatedly loosing prime I would assume its leaking.
Which Connector is that i have a same problem my car not starting Audi a4 b8 2.0 tdi i wanna check this connector where is located this connector Thanks ?
I have the same issue.Tried clearing it just too see if Car would turn on but it said Permanent code p0087.

It will be nice to see pressures?
I believe I stated that in the video.
I have a mazda 3 1,6 diesel 2011, i was driving it on highway when the car suddenly shuts of and wont start anymore. The engine shakes when i try to start it . Do you have an idea what could have happened?
No way I can know based on what your describing. that vehicle wasn't sold here with a diesel engine so I have no experience. If it has a Timing belt make sure that it hasn't broken or stripped teeth and allowed pistons so smack valves.
I have a problem with my Audi a6 2011 3.0 tdi cdya .. I had a donkey high pressure pump and nozzle ... I did everything to work ,, and cleaned the whole system on fire .. now the car starts immediately without any problems the engine works well only when I give the gas the car goes out and I throw out the error p0087 ,, I repeat the car starts immediately and they work calmly only when the gas goes out
Not familier with your car. Sorry.
My flow looks the same and is making just under 1 bar from the in tank pump not sure if that’s good or bad. Seems low to me CAYC 1.6 that is
Sorry i cant know things about cars that I don't work on. I assume your car is in Europe or some other place.
Im seeing 10 psi on a 2012 CAYC AUDI A3
where does the plug connect to, and what is the plug called? i think i have the same problem
the fuel pump.
What was the mistake? How many bars should there be from the fuel filter at idle?
my mistake was in diagnostic process. I should have noticed the pump was not working by running the test with vagcom early in the process, but I either missed it or didn't run the test. (cant remember the exact details, because I have to many videos). I cant remember the pressure spec. Did I say in the video?
I wired my headlight in a few days ago poor job and a few days later my car know won't start if the wiring is not connected could it cause the same problem ?
I doubt the headlight wiring could cause the car to not start.
Have similar problem to mine Golf 6 2.0 TDI. It wont start , sounds like no fuel or explosion in the cilynder. After some time it will suddenly start with no problem. My car techitian cannot locate the problem as it is gone suddenly, and appears from "no where". Still we dont know the root cause of this problem. Fuel pump looks good. :(
hard to diagnose a problem that isn't presnet. There are intercooler icing problems and fuel gelling problems.
Even if the codes are cleared, don't you think the codes would come back after tirning the car off and back on?
Sorry I dont know to what specifically in the video your question applies. If a problem is a "hard" repeatable problem then yes it will probably come back. Some codes only come back after a few "repeats" of the problem. Some codes take driving the car and the problem repeating in two ignition cycles. Once again I dont know to exactly what in the video you are referring.
Hi there we having problems with our 2011 1.6tdi golf, our mechanic has put his computer on it coming up about fuel pressure, he has changed the sensor and still wouldn’t start, now changed the regulator which has costed us near £500 so far and still won’t start for him, the battery went dead yesterday after trying for an hour. He’s gone to recharge the battery and coming back to try again, any ideas what would be wrong? Thanks
we dont have that engine here. I assume your in UK?

Does "they are all good" mean you checked voltage to the pump? If your not hearing it run checking power and ground with a volt meter would be the next step.
@@CoolAirVw the wires in the engine bay I checked, where you found one loose mine are all good so the problem isn't there with me.

@@steeleyg225 Should I assume you have the exact car as in the video? Yes you can heck the power and ground of the pump connector when the car wont start. Have a helper crank the engine. Fuel pump should be provided voltage when cranking. FYI assuming you have a similar car to what is in the video there is a fuel pump in the tank as well.
Are these engines as bad from the VAG group as I suspect!
Petrol engines too!
Always loved and respected German Engineering, but along with Mercedes and BMW, I feel a severe drop in their standards!!!
Nothing but trouble from Premium Brands! What’s your thoughts?
ALH is super efficient, super reliable and makes plenty of power and its modifiable for more power. Other tdi engines are ok, like BEW, BRM and BHW but the 09 and newer with emission's are a bit of a problem.
Hi it would help if you said what the engine code is please?
I mention the engine code in a lot of videos but not so sure how its relevant in this one. But its probably a CJAA.
Hi. What sensor is that? I have crafter 2.0. Thanks
"that"???? to which "that" are you referring? The main component in question in this video is not a sensor its a fuel pump.
