Thank you so much! Finally it’s working. You need to say a thousand times: „drag the player above the combinator“ :-)). I wondered way nothing came out into my daw. So I just overheard you saying: drag the player.... But it’s cool stuff having reason as a pluck in now.
At 3:03 when using Reason for modulation is covered, maybe I’m missing something obvious, but I can’t figure out how to do this. It seems like there should be a right-click on parameter knob, click Learn, then it works. I’m using Logic 10.8.1 and the latest Reason 12. I’m stumped and would appreciate any insight or help!
At 2:21 in the video you choose Reason Rack Plug-in a second time in the FM8 track MIDI section, but I only have Pre FX and Post FX. So I can't get the player in my Reason Rack Plugin to control the FM8. It's just not there. Why do you have it in your Ableton and I don't - I'm using all the same stuff. It REALLY sucks that the players don't work for me.
Very welcome addition! Are there any future plans to release a "midi effect" version of the VST, so that you can drop it into Ableton to the left of your instruments and save having to mess around with separate midi tracks? Would be similar to the Reason Effect Rack but only containing Players, the Midi Out, and maybe Matrix/Redrum etc.
This does not work for me... so frustrating. I am running Ableton 11.0.12 + Reason 12. The part at 1:02 where you say "connect to ..." The Reason rack plugin is not showing up as an option. Anyone got any suggestions?
When I open the "Post FX/Pre FX" meny, I do not get the "Reason Rack Plugin" as you do in this video. Would really appreciate any advice from anyone knowing why this might be hapening?

What more can we do? 🤔
My question is really not related to this video but i however think you're the absolute best person to ask. 1. Is there a way to record through plugins in Reason 12? 2. Is it possible to use multi-timbral instruments (say Hypersonic II) playing more than 1 sound at a time in reason?
Thanks for this tutorial. Can anyone help me out please, I might just be being dim... At 1:08, when selecting MIDI FROM Reason Rack plugin, on the second drop down box - PRE FX | POST FX | REASON RACK PLUGIN I only have the PRE & POST FX options, not Reason Rack plugin. What am I missing please? The MIDI OUT doesn't work for me currently and it must be this setting. TIA
Unfortunately, Reason isn't VST 3/AU3 compliant, so if you're on a Mac that's running M1, you may have to ensure that Ableton has Open Using Rosetta settings turned on. It may take Reason a few years to be VST 3 compliant. This is the current workaround.
I’m still having trouble recording midi into reason from reason players. Or cv. lol. I’m no novice at daw usage. Started on Cakewalk 3 been on ableton for the last ten years. I have easily adapted to Studio One, Logic, ProTools, and a few others. I used to rewire reason. I’m sure I’m missing something simple. Hoping maybe setting up a midi out device in reason rack with the cv root of chord designer going into it then to reason bass.? Then I can get the bass line I can already hear to actually print. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m interested in using reason standalone but so far some simple seeming jobs are not very apparent.
Hello friend, thank you so much for all your videos, I love your work and Reason! I'm sad because I can't do the (WA Instachord) work just like scale and chords. When I insert for example the Omnisphere and drag the scale and chords up, automatically the two connect and I have chords playing just one key. I would like to know how to connect WA Instachords in Omnisphere and get the chords, arps, strums and etc... Thank you very much my friend!
Hi Ryan, I have a problem getting my Jupiter xm to play in Reason 12. The Jupiter works fine as a midi controller controlling Reason 1st synths but I can't figure out how to configure Reason so I can play the Jupiter as a stand alone synth on a separate channel in the same project. If I go to Reason preferences and change the audio device to the Jupiter I can see Reason hears the synth as the green volume bar goes up but I can't hear the synth myself as I changed the audio device from my Focusrite audio device to the Jupiter so I'm stumped. Do you know what I may be doing wrong? So far I've only made tracks using Reason synths but I have the Jupiter and am dying to have that option to utilise otherwise I may as well have bought a basic midi controller. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Cheers
I can't get the midi to record out of reason into the DAW. Following your walkthrough at 4:18. I also only see Pre and Post FX options... not Reason Rack Plugin option.
You need to enable VST3 in the preferences in some way that I can't remember but I know there's a preference you're missing having set correctly. Hope that half-helps!
Are you using Ableton because it has midi routing? Does Reason 12 allow me to send midi from a hexachords producer track to a Reason synth within reason 12 itself? Like your doing here with ableton?
Ive been wondering and not successful trying to use an external hardware sequencer, Linn9000 , with my old midi sequences to play integrated within reason. Ingot the drum side to get close to sync but can the individual , separate midi performances be linked to Reason instruments?
Since the latest update, NI Maschine supports the VST3 Reason Rack plugin internally. Why can't I internally route the MIDI notes to another pad? Does the Reason Rack in the Machine have no midi out? Cheers
Question.. is there a good way to record live drums but use the audio signal to trigger sampled drums? Currently using a compressor the sends compression cv out to the gate in trigger.. works but not very well and certainly with no dynamics.
Still sticking to Reason 10 which has 1) Rewire and 2) A sequencer. Live + Reason is my favorite "Power combo" but the rack simply does not come _close_ to the workflow I'm used to within Reason which I think is a shame. I'd rather have Reason 11 + Rewire than the Reason plugin.
Great. Just saved me from buying an actual analogue sequencer when I can use the one I have in Reason ( "Analogue Sequencer" from DLD ) and direct its MIDI to any synth in my setup. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Is there any way that I can record MIDI signals generated by Beat Map to a MIDI track in Ableton? I tried the configuration from section 4 of this video but it didn't work. If there are any tutorials on that anywhere I'd love to see them. Thanks.
That's very nice, but what about real midi slaving external hardware such as Roland System 8? The S8 has MSB, LSB to control Plug out changes plus other cc messages to change patches. Now that would be very very helpful. How do you work that out? Thanks
I agree. I've been using Reason 10 to sequence my external gear with the EMI. The crazy thing you have to do with parameter automation to get my synths that have more than 128 programs is nuts, and sometimes doesn't work. I was hoping this new device would add that (seemingly simple) feature. Nope.
Great info! Looking forward to experimenting with it! I was searching for a way to get a CC15 msg to Reason from my Finale MIDI file--the trumpet falloff is CC15, but there seemed to be no way to write that into Reason... until I saw your video! I think this is what will work. Thanks!
Could you use this to control a vst effect plug in within Reason? I'm using Ovox (waves) and when I make a sequencer track it won't let me control via midi. I even combinated it. Still noting.
is this somehow possible inside reason? Because i try to control my Borsta VST with the same mapping as Kong for example because its not possible to change keys within the VST. The goal would be to play kong and VSTs with the same key-/pad-layout ... CV/Gate is no Option because no Verlocity 😪

Hey man, Ryan explained below. This was driving me nuts too, thought it was a limitation in Live Intro. Have to turn on VST3 in prefs, and use that version of Reason in the plugin folder.
any help i cant get reason 12 to show up as reason rack vst in ableton did all settings correctly but it wont show up not sure what to do, vst3 folder all set everything woks except reason 12 i just bought it all and nothing is working together
Too sad it's half-working in FL studio. You can play other VSTs through players, but FL doesn't record midi from rack players, even though it does from NI Komplete Kontrol build in ARP or Xfer Cthulhu for example. At least you can drag MIdi from Redrum and Octo rex.
Does anyone know if the Reason plugin can accept audio rate modulation from Bitwig’s modulators? From what I’ve gathered, some plugins support it, but most probably don’t.
I was holding off on upgrading from Reason 10 but I think now 11.2 has changed the game for me as I do use other DAWs - this is very nice, important demo video. This whole move to making Reason 11 a VST plugin has been pure genius from Reason Studios aka Propellerhead. With the subscriptions and rent to own, you can get rack extension versions of famous synths like Spire and Rob Papen stuff etc at a fraction of the cost compared to the vst versions... Pure genius, guys!

Thank you so much! Finally it’s working. You need to say a thousand times: „drag the player above the combinator“
:-)). I wondered way nothing came out into my daw. So I just overheard you saying: drag the player....
But it’s cool stuff having reason as a pluck in now.
The voice that got me to buy Reason now with a face. :)
Can you send different MIDI channels to VST‘s when using Reason as standalone?
Great to see that good features are being added
It’s always ace to hear Ryan’s voice
As long as its your voice to go along with the tutorials, sure make more!
A great update. Thank you. Midi out is what I've been waiting for.
Thanks for the video. Happy to continue my support of Reason. Keep up the good work 👍
At 2:21 in the video you choose Reason Rack Plug-in a second time in the FM8 track MIDI section, but I only have Pre FX and Post FX. So I can't get the player in my Reason Rack Plugin to control the FM8. It's just not there. Why do you have it in your Ableton and I don't - I'm using all the same stuff. It REALLY sucks that the players don't work for me.
Ryan makes such great videos
Very welcome addition! Are there any future plans to release a "midi effect" version of the VST, so that you can drop it into Ableton to the left of your instruments and save having to mess around with separate midi tracks? Would be similar to the Reason Effect Rack but only containing Players, the Midi Out, and maybe Matrix/Redrum etc.
would love this addition!!
You are the best of all the daw!
Great update, many thx Reason Studios !!
This does not work for me... so frustrating.
I am running Ableton 11.0.12 + Reason 12.
The part at 1:02 where you say "connect to ..."
The Reason rack plugin is not showing up as an option.
Anyone got any suggestions?
When I open the "Post FX/Pre FX" meny, I do not get the "Reason Rack Plugin" as you do in this video. Would really appreciate any advice from anyone knowing why this might be hapening?
🗣Reason user since version 4️⃣ & it’s been my baby ever since! Happy 2️⃣0️⃣th! 🥳 #propellerhead #reason #reasonstudios
The greatest Reason innovations were:
•Audio Tracks (Since Record 1.0)
•Bounce Mixer Channels (Since Record 1.0)
•External MIDI Instrument (Since 7)
•VST/AU Plugins/Dark Mode (Since 9.5) ❤️ 🥰
•Rack Plugin/MIDI Out (Since 11) 💪🏾
I wonder what version 12 will look like?
Can i uset his plugin to run analog gear out of Reason ?
Great Tutorial. Is it in the meantime possible to use the midi-out for controller data (LFO Pulsar) also in Ableton? Does anybody know?
I'm sad because I can't do the
(WA Instachord) work just like scale and chords.
Cheers
Ok Reason Rack looks amazing. I'm gonna buy it for FL
Ryan Harlin Thanks. VST’s were all on but I had to re-scan for some reason. Didn’t pick it up on load.
Are you using Ableton because it has midi routing? Does Reason 12 allow me to send midi from a hexachords producer track to a Reason synth within reason 12 itself? Like your doing here with ableton?
how can i use ripchord as a vst3 to control radical keys to play chords? thanks
Ive been wondering and not successful trying to use an external hardware sequencer, Linn9000 , with my old midi sequences to play integrated within reason.
Ingot the drum side to get close to sync but can the individual , separate midi performances be linked to Reason instruments?
I think this is a great update!
Why oh why is this not included in the Reason 12 stand alone DAW?
Since the latest update, NI Maschine supports the VST3 Reason Rack plugin internally. Why can't I internally route the MIDI notes to another pad? Does the Reason Rack in the Machine have no midi out? Cheers
how do i get it to control scaler in the main daw?
what amazing UA setup! Teletronix La2a, 1176 and Dual 610....that's a rack with attitude xD I also have a beautiful 1176.
Question.. is there a good way to record live drums but use the audio signal to trigger sampled drums? Currently using a compressor the sends compression cv out to the gate in trigger.. works but not very well and certainly with no dynamics.
Still sticking to Reason 10 which has 1) Rewire and 2) A sequencer. Live + Reason is my favorite "Power combo" but the rack simply does not come _close_ to the workflow I'm used to within Reason which I think is a shame. I'd rather have Reason 11 + Rewire than the Reason plugin.
I agree 100%
hi, in the second window under midi from I have no opportunity to select reason rack ^ there are only post fx and pre fx, what should I do?
Great. Just saved me from buying an actual analogue sequencer when I can use the one I have in Reason ( "Analogue Sequencer" from DLD ) and direct its MIDI to any synth in my setup. Thanks!
RYAN'S BACK!! 😍
Thanks for the video. Is there any way that I can record MIDI signals generated by Beat Map to a MIDI track in Ableton? I tried the configuration from section 4 of this video but it didn't work. If there are any tutorials on that anywhere I'd love to see them. Thanks.
Can't seem to get much going in Studio One with the midi out. Is that a S1 issue not supporting it? :(
That's very nice, but what about real midi slaving external hardware such as Roland System 8? The S8 has MSB, LSB to control Plug out changes plus other cc messages to change patches. Now that would be very very helpful. How do you work that out? Thanks
I agree. I've been using Reason 10 to sequence my external gear with the EMI. The crazy thing you have to do with parameter automation to get my synths that have more than 128 programs is nuts, and sometimes doesn't work. I was hoping this new device would add that (seemingly simple) feature. Nope.
Look at those sweet, modern vector graphics in Reason
Lmaoo!
Great info! Looking forward to experimenting with it! I was searching for a way to get a CC15 msg to Reason from my Finale MIDI file--the trumpet falloff is CC15, but there seemed to be no way to write that into Reason... until I saw your video! I think this is what will work. Thanks!
Is it possible to get MIDI out to DAW from existing Reason songs NOT created in Reason 11? Thanks
CV/Gate is no Option because no Verlocity 😪
any way i can send out multiple midi channels in reason 11 - lets say from sample tank 4 or any multi channel instrument - i see midi out in the stand alone DAW but i cant get it to work - i know all about reason as a plugin but thats not what im tring to do - also what happen to the external mid instrument - because thats what i seem to need - appreciate any info on this
I can't see the Reason Midi menu option below Post fx ( 1:08 ) in Ableton. Anyone else figure this out?
Please explain to me how you even route out to control third party plugs in FL Studio such as Omnisphere?
Does anyone know if the Reason plugin can accept audio rate modulation from Bitwig’s modulators? From what I’ve gathered, some plugins support it, but most probably don’t.
can someone explain how to record midi from reason plugin to our sequencer for customizing. The daw is Cubase
Pure genius, guys!
hi guys im trying to follow on but in the second drop box im only getting post . im trying to usescales and chords in ableton. im guessing it might be something silly ,lol but i dont know wat it is
any help would be appreciated.
cheers
Great stuff : )
I don't get the reason rack option when looking at midi from post and pre. I am unsure of what to do?
what about multiple MIDI out ? I put more than one and they all trigger. How do I stop this behavior as I want to control each midi out with CV note and gate with utility rack?
