      That is why you play as Balthasar Gelt and turn 5 rush Sylvannia. After that you lure Azhag in by turn 11 and burn Drycha before swinging to finish up Azhag. Then you rush to Festus. :D

      @@wilhelmrk how do you beat Vlad so early in the campaign? He’s basically invincible to empire infantry, heroes, and crossbows. You need a mage who can cast direct damage spells, or guns or steam tanks or late game units to kill him, all of which you don’t have early on

    • @vrrdragon
      @vrrdragon Год назад +34

      @@RicardoSanchez-es5wl that turn 5 rush strat was only good in wh2, not sure why people think its still the go to, dont even think its possible since Vlad respawns pretty much the next turn you beat him now, just play Karl, beat the secessionists and use prestige gained (only use prestige once per turn) to improve relations with the golden order + form any pact or trade you can get with them till relations is above 240, then because of high relations you'll have enough fealty to confederate them really early, then use gelt to retake the moot (which is most likely taken by a vlad army) and fight the vampires (gelt will have another army, maybe even a third at this point, use them suicidally to beat back the vampires as you can't sustain them or dissolve them immediately depending on your economy), with khazarak one eye you should recruit an arch lector (the cheapest general) then spam out crossbow recruitment till you have 6~ units (use the recruitment edict) and have him camp in altdorf, then just wait for Khazarak to blitz through Boris' territory where he'll then suicidally sieges altdorf, just autoresolve that battle against him to wipe him out for a few turns while Karl goes North to either fight Festus or retake Boris territory for imperial authority. Just a few notes, always secure a non-aggression pact with the Vampire faction near altdorf to secure that front, and when fighting the secessionists, always loot + occupy the settlement, not sure why Legend doesnt do it, but consistently the rebel army will spawn next to altdorf, and with the arch lector in altdorf, you can autoresolve that battle and get even more money when they try siege. With gelt vs the vampires, either his army, or the other army he'll have when you confederate him will have a bunch of crossbow units, transfer them to Gelt, then use them to focus fire on Vlad if you encounter him, with crossbow fire + the captain forcing him to fight with his back turned you can kill him pretty quickly, dont bother trying to kill isabella unless she has a flying mount and flies far ahead of the army as she has effectively infinite healing just let her crumble when you beat the rest of the army. I found this works pretty consistently for me on very hard battle diff and campaign diff, but not tried it on legendary, also been pretty lucky with festus aggression early.

    This guide might need an update. I think patch 3.0 somehow made the Empire even more difficult. By turn five I had booted the empire secessionists and Middenland had been completely annihilated by Khazrak and the Black Pit Greenskins. Festus had killed Hochland by turn four and the entirety of middenheim was at 100% chaos corruption . I had to rush the attrition skill for Karl Franz just to be able to set foot in the province. It's really rough, to the point that the Empire is probably in the top five hardest starts in the game currently. Which is hilarious considering the game recommends them for new players. But yeah, definitely worth remaking this guide at this point.

    • @PsychBanzer
      @PsychBanzer 4 месяца назад +2

      And not to mention the barrow legion knocking the door. What I like to do is rushing The legion, and normally the beastmen and orcs go for altdorf which is manageble with the large garrison and a single lord. You then want to send a cheap army to get get carroburg and get middenheim back in the game. Repeat if necessary, never capture this territory since you're better off defending in reikland and having a buffer state between you and them , remember when middenland gets wiped and you bring them back theyre not at war with black pit or the beastmen, so that helps. Once you rush the legion you shoudn't have problems wiping the guys to the north. You have to be uber aggresive basically, not waste a single turn. If you're lucky like I was, me rushing the legion made marienburg significantly powerful, they even beat the black pit orcs.

After replaying them since the patch they're incredibly easy with the new Imperial Authority mechanics. Which I think is good, to be clear. They've finally earned their "new player" status. I feel like the autoresolve for minor settlements still thinks that the battle is fought on a minor settlement map although no walls are built. That's why the autoresolve is very punishing even on normal battle difficulty.
    Maybe the minor settlement battles were kind of hardcoded into the game because it says "The enemy sallies out to fight on the field" in the loading screen for minor settlements without walls. The solution by CA for minor settlements seems to be that clicking "Fight battle" forces the garrison to sally out. Kinda weird that they had to use this workaround and weren't able to just change it to the way it worked in WH2.

    • @sinuosalice-1434

      Yeah he goes on about how you could just auto this on normal when the outcomes are pretty much identical on both difficulties. Yes you can auto win that early battle on normal but you'll take a lot more casualties than fighting it manually, just like in this video. If you then continue to Grunberg, I'm fairly certain you can auto win but with huge casualties, so you're better off fighting it manually. Just like this video.
      On normal I can just use standard tactics instead of running lords around at 3x speed for 10 minutes. I'm trying to play with toys here, not get sweaty

      @drago2210 Год назад

      Settlement AR is a known issue according to their last patch notes, but real problem is all settlements have invisible towers that skew the AR towards defenders advantage.
      There is a mod to remove those bonuses, and in my testing this is a bigger issue than it seems, because those invisible towers are not counted by the AI when they make a decision to attack, nor is the AR result shown accurate, as the casualties will be higher due to those invisible towers getting so many kills, and sometimes you can lose an AR that was showing a victory.

    • @SGProductions87
      @SGProductions87 Год назад +2

      Loads of people swear by Quarrelers vs Darkshards but what I noticed is that any victory in such a shootout is pyrrhic if it's a victory at all and that for the most part Shades and Darkshards make up the bulk of Dark Elf armies early on.
      This means two things: 1) that Quarrelers are not the best choice and 2) Dark Elf composition can be exploited by fast units and activating AI skirmish mode. Dwarfs are obviously not known for their speed but actually you can raise their speed heavily with Grombrindal and the tech tree.
      Grombrindal himself grants +35% speed to his whole army but you can also get +10% speed for all infantry and another +10% for Rangers. So you're thinking Rangers should be a consideration. Good. Other options are Slayers, Gyrocopter units and all Dwarf characters.
      Characters can become quite a bit faster than Darkshards and Shades, certainly, with items bought by oathgold.
      Any Dwarf unit can currently also be made quicker by Banner of Swiftness, Rune of Speed and Strollaz Rune which grants +20% speed and vanguard deployment.
      With all this speed, the idea is that you essentially turn Dwarfs into a rush melee faction vs Dark Elfs but you can also try wave attacks with Rangers (one line shoots as the other advances, each advance pushing the Darkshard/Shade line back) or flanking/rear shooting as Slayers advance, or some combination of this with Gyrocopters running distractions/skirmish activation. The 'copters tend to be destroyed very quickly without perfect micro though and IMO take too long to fire.
      The least risky units vs Darkshards are the Dwarf characters because on Legendary the AI will generally not fire at small single entities.

So you don't need to run down every single last man (in normal circumstances) but that isn't to say you shouldn't try to as a general rule anyway. (Edit: Another thing to note is this needs to be done BEFORE the battle is declared over. Any kills after the victory mark don't count.)

I bribed Ostland which had taken over Krudenwald to go to war with The Fecundites so I could retreat safely and recover. It also allowed Hochland a little bit of time to recruit a new army. On turn 13 Bastonne, Talsyn, and Marienburg declare war on me. Eilhart is immediately taken by Marienburg, Orion has sieged Helmgart which has trapped one of my generals and sallying out would be suicide but staying is starvation. Bastonne has moved armies near Eilhart. So, by the time it's my turn to play I have two mostly destroyed armies, 3/4 of a defenseless province, and one fort stronghold that doesn't stand a chance of survival. Empire campaign is so difficult I seriously don't know how to win it. If it weren't for the total incompetence of the majority of the Empire AI being incapable of winning a single battle or fielding a halfway decent army, it would probably be a moderately difficult campaign at best.

    The exact same things happen with early battles on normal difficulty. If you autoresolve, you will win but you will lose more units than if you fight it manually.

    Loving these guides, looking forward to Kairos, Ikit, and Grombrindal at some point hopefully. One of the biggest takeaways for me personally is seeing how aggressive Legend is with very early lord recruitment and using his money efficiently. I have a tendency to stockpile cash for future use for some reason (Dawi hoarding urges I guess) and seeing Legend have 4 lords by turn 4 makes me rethink how I approach the early campaign.

    I believe the reason for the 'turn 7 Ostermark giving back Krudenwald to Hochland' event didn't show up cause you already gave it back just few turns before. IIRC they've mention in pach notes that you cannot get imperial authority by giving the same settlement again and again anymore. Y'all know... Instead of improving or changing a mechanic to be less of a pain in the ass CA loves to ''fix'' the ways players deals with problematic mechanics.
    Loving these campaing start videos, i've been enjoying your content for the last two years and I have to thank you for all the good you do to this game and the community. Thanks a lot and keep your great work going on you Legend!

    49:40 Last time I played Franz, I had handgunners with a clear shot down a street in a minor settlement battle...When I manually told them to shoot the chaos warriors at the other end, they just charged. The messed up LOS definitely doesn't do his campaign any favours.

    Hi legend, i don't think I'll watch this entirely through rn, but I'll do watch it when i play Karl next time, iG that's true with most Guides, they don't generally do good in a short time, but the views keep accumulating over time, like the 20 turn guides are some of the highest viewed videos in your channel if you look it up, keep up the guides, would love army guide videos as well, thank you

    At 1:44:10 , Legend swaps out a Lord for a previously hired Lord that was ready to be hired again. We can see his wealth drop when doing this as if it were hiring a fresh new Lord when making the swap. This cost can be avoided by spending all wealth down to zero or near zero even if temporary via anything such as hiring troops or building construction. Simply cancel any such temporary wealth dumps that are not needed after making the swap and bam, swap previously hired Lord cost bug is avoided!
    Not sure how far back this bug has existed, since I didn't start playing TW: WH games till WH2 was already out. In all versions I've played in WH1, 2, and 3 so far, this bug seems to exist in all of it and with all factions/ Lords. We can assume that it's not an intended game mechanic since if hiring such a previously hired Lord as a fresh army, the cost is not incurred at all. When swapping like this, we can also see that it doesn't require any resources too if swapping to a previously hired one, only fresh Lords as it should be imho.

    Krudenwald doesn't exist in TW2, I wonder if that's the reason why the event to return it to Hochland didn't come up. They didn't update the code to add that settlement to the list of triggers for the "return settlement" event that pops up. Just a guess.

  • @NorthernStarshine

    What I did with Helmgart and which worked wonderfully for the campaign, is I traded Eilhart to Marienburg in exchange for non agression pact, and then I traded Helmgart back for Eilhart for more treaties and massive relationship boosts, basically ensuring Marienburg and Couronne will remain friendly/allies with me. Then I didn't have to worry about the west at all for a long time, and eventually confederated Marienburg. I don't recommend confederating them too early though, since it'll most likely drag you into wars with Norsca.

    If Warhammer 2 was a 100m sprint to save the empire before the vampire death spiral happens, Warhammer 3 is a whole marathon made of 100m sprints that you have to win every time or else the nation explodes.
    Also you have to win two of those sprints at the same time.
    10/10 campaign very realistic and lore friendly. Summon what's left of the Elector Counts

    The broadstrokes of this still seem valid. Festus occupies settlements now, rather than razing them so a single lord cant easily return them. Khazrak beelines for Middenheim - he takes it by turn 3. But it still makes sense to send a solo lord north, as once Khazrak takes Middenheim (turn 3) he does start razing so that solo lord can slow him down by forcing him to go back and re-raze settlements. And it still makes sense to take out Khazrak and Festus right after the secessionists.
    The bug with the Empire events not firing has also been fixed.
