One month since starting, 11 rubbish bags, 4 boot loads to thrift store and still finding more that I just don’t need. The process is very liberating.

I'm only 13 now, but when I grow up I wish to lead minimalistic and carbon emissions free lifestyle, alone, in a tiny house in the woods. I also want to get a large dog to keep me company, like a German Shepard, or a Border Collie, I haven't yet decided. Good day from South East USA!

Sont worry about the carbon emissions. The middle Eastern sand jammers burn tires all day every day. Also all these government officials that cry global warming hop in their private jet and fly away burning more jet fuel in 1 ride then you will probably on your entire life. Hypocrites 😂

Just discovered your channel, and you are so clear in whatever you say. You have great clarity of thought. I believe minimalism also includes carrying the minimalistic attitude in your thoughts and emotions and feelings as well. We carry so many grudges against people, Unwanted thoughts, purposeless feelings. Everything has to go. Just like decluttering our home is an important aspect of minimalism, decluttering ones mental home, emotional home is also equally important. Also minimalism in food choices and relationships, also helps. Eat less variety, eat less quantity, but quality foods. We burden ourselves with too many pre conceived notions. Having less but meaningful relationships also is a part of minimalism. All this gives us more energy to work towards our greater goals. We save a lot of energy and time to do the things which will lead us to our ultimate purpose.
Let's not make minimalism not just about decluttering the house, and getting rid of the materialistic things, but also about living a quality life in terms of emotions and thoughts, in terms of food choices and relationships as well.
    Thank you for your channel.

Just stumbled onto this. I think your reasons are spot on! I've recently done a 90 day challenge on down sizing. It worked out so well that I integrated it into my lifestyle permanently. At times it's still a challenge. I have to take extra time when making purchases just to keep myself in check. Not everything needs to be bought. Borrowing or second hand work just as well. My big take away from all this is being able to rack up experiences now instead of things. Doing beats buying hands down! Atb Sean

Simplifying your meals, such as beans and rice and your toppings as one meal ect... (add guac, or turn it into a curry) so on... Saves money from eating out, simplifies your meals, you eat better long-term less medical bills and so on... Create a good variety of simple meals with whole ingredients and you will see how it saves you both time and money.

Great video Jeff as I have been a "minimalist" for several years now to the point where I don't even own a couch in my 1 bedroom apartment. I have no stress and when I come home there are no dishes in the sink, the dirty clothes are in the hamper and there is nothing on any of my countertops. I wear my clothes until they have to be discarded!!!! Sorry to the rest of the $HEEP in this world have not caught on as my brother has a house full of trash that he pays a mortgage on so that HE can keep up with the JONES'!!!

You made some great points that I've never heard before! -like hanging on to things being like holding on to a baby blanket. I think I became a minimalist in my early teens when I decided I wanted to be more grown up so I started going through my belongings and getting rid of anything I felt was childish. I called it "adultifying"! Lol! I don't think people really want to grow up these days! Ironically, I still sleep with a big stuffed dog!

Married for 19 years, in the beginning we thought we didn't have enough space so I built an addition to the house and filled it with more things. Now approaching our 20th anniversary not only married but in our first home, we're now planning on building a much smaller home with very little to go in it and I tell you what it is great to be settling into a minimalist lifestyle. The overall quality of life is 10 times better although we still have a ways to go to get to the point where we want to be. Turning our backs to the materialistic world we live in and focusing on what's more important, health, family and quality of life.
Starting off poor, then working hard to get the THINGS that I wanted to now looking to only have the essentials. I'm only 39 and I'm glad we figured out that minimalism is the right way to go while we're still young enough to enjoy it for many years to come...

Good video! Last year when I hit 35 and got fed up with high car payments xcetera....i started my minimalist lifestyle Journey. I've learned it's a mindset not a number. If you got it and can use it sometimes throw it away will cost you more money if you need it down the road soon. If you're not paying for storage or it's not taking up too much space. then it's not really costing you money

I first discovered you because of beard brand. But your youtube channel made me discover the minimalism philosophy. Im not a minimalist at this time, but im a striving minimalist. I have been working real hard to slowly declutter my life. Which is a slow and not so easy process for me, but I notice the more objects I get rid of the better I feel. Ive also started wearing polos because of your video on polos, and I found a cheap but pretty good brand called Arizona jean co. And I love their polos so far, and they make me feel more confident. Thank you for your videos and all your content. They really help out guys like me.

I’m trying to adopt this lifestyle. Ideally I’d own a few essential items and have money in bank to live and travel. As a married man now it’s hard getting everyone on board. I personally hate Knick knacks, decorations that don’t serve purpose, pictures everywhere, even owning a large house.
And I LOVE what you state about health. I like to think of your body as its own “fashion” if that makes sense. If you take care of yourself, it’s not necessary to have additional clothes, jewelry, makeup, etc etc . An attractive body in a white T and jeans looks good all around IMO.
But so much truth, the more stuff I have, the more cluttered and busy I feel

1 thing I believe leads ppl away from minimalism is the need for some couples/families to buy, or build bigger houses than what they really should. This just leads to a need to fill up the house with clutter. If u have a large family, which I would consider more than 2 children, then yes, u will need a large house, but once those children grow up and move out the parents should feel compelled to downsize, declutter and live in a manner that allows them to only have what they really need, not what they believe they’ll need later on.

I do think though that everyone can also stop "reminding" us to like and comment and blah, blah. We all know what we can do. All it makes me think, is someone is desperate for promotion, or thinks we all have amnesia of how youtube works.

sure thing. but imho moods direct our thoughts. some emotions effect our mental efforts in ways that we do things in real world. for example some great literary masterpieces were brought to existence because of their author state of mind. for example Mery Shelly, writer of Frankenstein was under influence of some heavy clouds of isolation and depression when she wrote this novel. happiness makes you more productive sure, but emotions are very crucial in how we react toward our surroundings.

In the other hand I do not have any credit, I travel when I like, I do not count for quality food, ect...When I buy something I try to get the best quality. I think you are right. Freedom has that price.

My favorite right now is Robert Johnson! My struggle is limiting myself to one cup of coffee a day. Not there yet, at 44 I have some wiggle room!

Overal a minimalist lifestyle brings peace, control and strength to oneself, permits the maintenance of the self substance above self emptying in search for unuseful things and non self centered objectives. Permits self defense against distractions and the power of the individual above circumstances influence.

I owned 3 condos and lived financially free. Got really depressed after my dog passed and made impulsive bad decisions that started the domino-effect and i lost everything. Gotta start over. This minimalist mentality sounds great. I sure miss being free and living off rentals. Regret is killing me...i failed :(

There are a lot of videos that deal with the subject of purging your possessions. Try The Minimalists for some good advice by the Minimalist whose mother died and he had to decide what to do with her stuff. Also Marie Kondo has a method for filtering your possessions.

Honestly walk the walk. Live simple like varg. Varg doesn't have tats because they're unnecessary. Varg doesn't have a fancy watch he has simple clothes and lives in a simple home. His family dresses simple. That I can respect.

    #The Buon Life; New Sub here, excellent series, serious question;
Given the expense, potential ill health repercussions, have you any address on tattoos?
I’ve not been inked, due those reasons, & besides, when the herd does something ‘hip’, I head into the opposite. THX! 👍

This subject and lifestyle change fascinates me at the moment, next year I shall be downgrading into a smaller house.
I’ve realised I can literally lose ALL my cd’s as my music is on the iPhon.
I love films, but feel pained to lose any?
Books, I don’t read that much, so could lose 75% of them...
What degree of reduction becomes minimal as compared to just decimated?!?
I guess it’s similar to clothing, I don’t wear that varied a wardrobe so could also lose 50-75% maybe...
Is that what is meant by minimal, or just reducing severely???
Thanks for any input - the vids are very good !!!
I can understand the restraint for shiny things, new dvd etc and saving money.... THAT will be the discipline....!!
