      Sure the Chargers pay him. But the Chargers paying for competency towards on-field performance and results is another thing. Besides only the old people believe and talk about the Chargers curse. Herbert who was born in 1998 doesn't believe in such things.

    I think you left out the importance of Surtain being a one of the best shutdown corners in the league. Having Surtain being able to take away opponent's all star talent gives the rest of the team way more leeway to play aggressively and not worry about getting punished for it.

    • @Wolfeson28
      @Wolfeson28 9 месяцев назад +4

      True, but they had Surtain for those first five games as well. He's an important piece, but clearly the things that led to the overall defensive turnaround were changes elsewhere.

      Benching Mathis #27 saved this team. Every team just threw at him time and time again. Every throw was a completion. I honestly think that is the worst CB I've ever watched play football in 30 years as a football fan. Hell you think he would get lucky once and knock a pass down by accident, but nope lol.

    I feel like they practice how they play. Russ has always been a guy that struggles against a good pass rush and I'm sure Sean wants to fined ways to counter it. The D gets to practice tough pressuring defense against a HOF QB and that QB is getting all the reps he wants against what some would consider an elite pass rush now. I believe the broncos can make a push in the playoffs.
    I'll be happy just to eek into the playoffs, but I definitely have some expectations for the divisional round.

      Joseph sorta did for like a season. Thing is his coaching style isn't really sustainable for the long term if you see how his entire tenure with the Cards went. If he was stuck in a matchup he's gonna wanna blitz some more. In some matchups that absolutely killed him because there were teams that punished him for his tendencies. Then again Joseph never had a star on defense like Surtain II to pair with key role guys like the emergence of McMillian and Simmons being healthy. The buy in from the trench talents is a bonus.

    As much as you got on the turnovers and the sustainability aspect of it, I still think its a noisy stat. But you are right about the defensive play style being pretty feast or famine. Worked out for Vance Joseph as the Cardinals DC when he got the right roles carved out in the season. In fact you sorta did a video back on that Cards defense 3 years ago which many said felt like it was a year early. Also helps that not were the pressures were working well against Mahomes but also for Allen (which was consequently the last game Ken Dorsey was the OC). Also does wonders vs QBs the caliber of Josh Dobbs, DTR and Herbert/Easton Stick.

    I think that first Patrick Mahomes play that was highlighted was a poor example. I watched Tua make a similar read and burn the Patriots using just the fact that the safety took two steps towards the line of scrimmage before launching the ball (ruclips.net/video/hiFKIasrIRA/видео.html). In my opinion it was a bad miss by Mahomes because he probably should've seen the second corner taking a step towards the flat route while making his first read and just launched it. If he's really as good as the media demands us to believe he is, teams are going to get burned more often then not with execution like this. Had the pressure not been on, it might've still been a touchdown in spite of this slow recognization, so that's definitely still a good point, but again, most times against most veteran quarterbacks, you're going to get burned with execution like this.

    Instead my apartment declined to renew my lease (for absolutely no reason other than I'm one of the only white guys, in a prominently black housing complex) so now I get to be homeless 🤷🏼 guess that's gods plan

      I was beyond impressed with Mcmillian's college footage and puzzled as to how he did not get drafted. It is not that much of a surprise to me that he is playing as well as he is. Locke too. This defense is good and solid. It is I am thinking 3 offseason acquisitions away from being a top 3 unit. One immovable object on the D-line, one LB who thinks like Jewell but is faster and maybe one piece in the secondary. On offense, it's a replacement for a very disappointing Jerry jeudy and a Greg Dulcich that's healthy. I'm 50/50 on Russ, but optimistic about him if the rest of the team around him is just a hair better. Next year will be a very good season. In Sean I trust.

    This defensive potential is why Denver never considered trading PS2 for a second. Thank god they had the vision to see it

      I don’t even think any front office would ever think about trading a young and extremely good cornerback without getting an extremely good return.

      Why would you ever trade a PS2? It has alot of really goof games to play and it's a little bit older so the trade value isn't worth what you'd get from just keeping it
