IMO what makes Colosseum difficult is that there is a limited pool of pokemon you can acquire and without researching ahead you're basically building a team blindly as you go, HOPING that you're leveling the right pokemon. Pretty sure i got myself stuck and never beat the game.
How... did you get stuck? Mount Battle can give you Exp. Edit: Espeon and Umbreon can actually carry you the entire game as well... so you have even less excuse.
I remember having this game when I was younger and I unknowingly did a hardcore run of this game. Because younger me didn't read about the game the first time I went through the entire game with just umbreon, espeon, and pusle. Yes the entire game including the 100 battle mountain with just those three. Later on I replayed the game correctly, but I still laugh that I played this game on hard mode my first time. I still remember I abused the heck out of moonlight, physic, and stall tactics.
I never thought I'd see you play this! I must have done it dozens of times myself, back in the day. As a kid, this was the greatest. I felt heard when you tried to sneak past the trainer in the battle tower, as I'd done 1-100 more times than I can count and I NEVER stopped trying that. It will never work, mind you... and I knew that.. I couldn't help it.
Omg this game was my childhood!! I ran Espeon/Jumpluff as my main pair running full status moves on Jumpluff and full attacking moves on Espeon and that actually worked for me until like halfway through the game where I got stuck - so cool to see you playing it!
I was extremely invested in Pokémon as a child for a while, but lost interest after I played GSC to the absolute death. I came back to it around Gen 4-5 times but that also got me to check out what I missed, including these games. IIRC I got a GBA, legit copy of Emerald, and even the GCN link cable to hook it up to my Wii. I remember having chills when I played these games for the first time, it was so good. Not only was it incredibly nostalgic and felt like part of me came home, but it had basically realised a dream I had, for a console Pokémon RPG with Stadium-style graphics and presentation. It's hard to believe the company that made this was so small. Then when PBR came out, I hoped for a follow-up more along the lines of Stadium/Colosseum or even XD, but no dice. Now here we are today, the series is on the Switch for God's sake, but the games still look, sound and play nowhere near the level these ones do. I know the roster these days is incredibly huge, so maybe my expectations are unrealistic, but still! The missed potential is almost painful.
Wait, this is considered the hardest Pokemon game? This was literally my first pokemon game. It also sparked my undying love for Umbreon. I remember playing this as kid when I didn't even have a memory card. Had to either keep restarting or just leave my GameCube on for weeks (That thing was tough) until I finally got one.
Honestly Plusle is a beast in that game. Maybe I just had a really good Nature but that little guy carried me through the 100 battle stadium thing up north. Been a favorite of mine ever since, I don't care that it's considered averagely weak.
they needa get back to making games like this again for pokemon ... this was different as hell compared to the mainline pokemon games , and thats why it worked so well . doesn't hurt to have a good set of pokemon to catch... kept using umbreon and espeon throughout the whole first time i played, this game made me love umbreon even more
My favourite pokemon game to this day is pokemon conquest and that's just a nod to a Japanese game series with similar game play. But yeah they definitely need to try more unique things with pokemon it's fun (just don't ruin em like pokemon unite
With the Legends series, it's promising. I'm pretty pessimistic when it comes to Pokemon. The studio that makes pokemon games can barely do it right, and it's been that way since the very first generation. Kanto being in generation 2 was a miracle by one guy (I forgot the name) that also handled compressing the data in the first gen because game Freak coders struggled with resource management, and likely still do. On top of that, it's been proven Pokemon fans lap up anything related to Pokemon no matter the quality. Nintendo doesn't need a quality product because whatever they release will break sales records (Sword and Shield broke some sales records and Pokemon fanatics tout that as a sign of good quality).
SmallAnt: "Oh that sucks, I have an Adamant Espeon that's like the worst nature you could possibly get." Me: *Has a flashback to the time where SmallAnt suffers the first half of his Pokémon Ruby Wonder Guard playthrough.*
This is actually the first pokemon game that I ever played because I never grew up with handhelds for some reason. I guess that it was a good thing because Colosseum really forces you to remember your type match ups and not rely on a single pokemon. Also, I don't get why chat was so adamant on Ant getting Croconaw, Gatr just isn't very good prior to the Phys/special split.
Loved this game! Spent HOURS trying to get Tyranitar... As soon as I caught it my sister came down and turned my GameCube off because I wasn't up for dinner 😂😭
I replayed and completed this game for the first time at the start of this year. It still holds up well. Because its never had a re release it isnt even morally bad to emulate it now. Id say play it 100% if your a fan of pokemon
Quilava is such a unique pokemon line. Cyndaquil is based on an echidna, a monotreme (egg-laying mammals, like the platypus). Quilava is based on an (African) porcupine, a rodent. Typhlosion is based on a badger, a mustelidae (weasel family).
I remember playing Colosseum as a kid on my GameCube; I got stuck at the mayor and idk what happened after that. Another thing I remember is that this game may have sparked my love for the eeveelutions It has also occurred to me that my dumb kid self may have never purified any of my Pokemon and somehow made it through a good chunk of the game out of sheer chance.
These games were so dope when they came out, and they still really look good. I always thought they'd remake the gen 3 games on GameCube when I was like 13 to look like this.
So we have adult ansem-posessed Riku, and a creature whose door to its heart is tightly shut, all in the first 3 and a half minutes of the video? Are we sure this is a Pokemon game, and not a Kingdom Hearts game?
The bonus disc that gave Jirachi was so exciting for me as a kid. This game is so fun but gets hard quickly for a lot of kids. I really enjoyed it though.
Holy crap... the nostalgia. I was like 5 years old trying to play this game but I deadass could not get out of Phenac city lmao. The attack animations were amazing.
This game brings me so much joy, in many ways. One of them is when my dad got me the special game cube Pokemon Colosseum randomly one day and my sisters cried the whole day that it was unfair, good memories.
I loved the dedication to double battles in this game. So much easier to build your team around that concept rather than having to balance against singles like in Emerald.
Love this and Gale of Darkness so much that I have them on my GameCube emulator on my PC. Love seeing someone else experience this for the first time after so many years

I love using misdreavus in this game. It's the only ghost type in the game and the AI doesn't know how to handle it.
SmallAnt: "Oh that sucks, I have an Adamant Espeon that's like the worst nature you could possibly get."

This is actually the first pokemon game that I ever played because I never grew up with handhelds for some reason. I remember playing Colosseum as a kid on my GameCube; I got stuck at the mayor and idk what happened after that. Another thing I remember is that this game may have sparked my love for the eeveelutions
