I have a 2016 with 25,000 miles. Battery went at 4 years. I put led lights in the front. No other mods or issues. Everytime I see it in the garage, I smile. I love this thing. Cool video
My 2016 has almost 130,000 miles on it now. The previous owner was a real estate broker who traveled a lot. It still runs and drives just like a brand new Taco!
Owned my first Tacoma pickup for 25 years. 350,000 miles. I’m a fanatic about preventative maintenance. Changed oil every 3000 miles no exemptions. Replaced breaks at 125,000. Dealer said I could make a commercial. Replaced muffler system at about 300,000. Blew a head gasket at about 300,000. Got that taken care of. Replaced catalytic converter once. Had problems with the starter motor toward the end and had to have that fixed more than I would have liked but that truck was the best investment I ever made. Replaced it with a 3rd Gen TRD Sport. Love it and so does everybody else.
You sir definitely use your truck to the max. Toyota is so reliable if you maintain them the right way, they last so long. Good to hear from a real life experience of someone going more than 300k
head gasket blew at 300k? wow .. the was the first time or it happened prior as well? i work at a toyota dealership here in texas ive seen a few tacos with blown heads at about 90-120k
Been driving Yota SR5 trucks since 1990. I run about 30 to 35k miles a year. I normally get about 250 to 275k miles out of them before someone hits me. I have had 3 accidents over the years. My last truck was a 2nd Gen TRD OR with 247k on it. I traded it in for my current baby, a TRD OR 4-dr LB. I love it!
Man, you truly use your truck. Love it, initially I had that plan with my 2013 Prerunner, but the lack of power on the 2.7l and access cab was starting to bug me haha.
@@Michael_Tran Yeah, I work as a roadway construction inspector. I travel here, there, and yonder to reach the jobsite. Then a few miles on the jobsite. 4WD certainly helps when building new roads!
131,000 on a 2016 TRD Off-road changed spark plugs at 96k new battery around the same time, wiper blades and air filters changed, but no issues! Oil change every 8-12k miles running royal purple.
2019 TRD Off Road owner here with 25k miles. Upgrades: 1) 3” King Racing lift kit with 33” tires and American Racing wheels 2) LEDs in every hole plus ditch light pods on the A-pillars 3) SPOD switch pro module 4) Shift Commander - helps minimize 5/6 gear hunting on freeways with hills 5) Tool box with backup battery heavy duty cables to an underhood tender (charger) 6) Clazzio seat covers 7) Front speaker and dash tweeter upgrades and boom mat in both front doors 8) Center console divider This truck is going to last at least a decade with ordinary maintenance. The value and utility are extraordinary.
I have a 2017 and one of my co workers has one too. Mine is a Trd offroad with 82,000 miles on it I use it hard with it loaded for work and 4 wheeling on the weekends. My co worker runs errands for work and just turned 180,000 miles on his. He doesn't haul as much as me and his is only a 2wd sport so it has a pretty easy life compared to mine. Neither one of us have had much for problems.
Man, you're getting up there with the miles. Glad nothing has broken down so far. We're just weekend warriors as well, but do enjoy seeing other states that's why there so much miles on it haha.
Another excellent video. Thanx for taking us along..... As a retired Euro Car Tech (28 years) here's a couple of observations. 1. Batteries are a consumable part. They have a finite life span and modern electronics are hard on them. 2 or 3 years is a very common life span. I change mine out every 3 years regardless of condition. It's cheaper than a tow bill. 2. Your TPMS sensors were modified? Doesn't count as a failure. I have 20K on my 2019TRDOR. Hope its has as few problems as yours's.....
Awesome feedback Tom. That make sense with the battery. Newer cars do have tons of electronic compare to older cars. Wish I knew what they did with the tpms when they changed the tires.
Get the TRD Off Road, I have a 2019 long bed, love it. Trade the fake hood scoop for funcional tools like the Crawl Control and Multiterrain Select, and the locking differential. They’re priced the same, TRD Sport is just “looks” and the fender flares are body painted which suck when you wheel because pinstripes will not disappear.
2016 at 156,000mi so far. Hope it makes 400,000. I have owned several Toyotas and I can relate to your issues. Everything will break except for the engine and transmission.😊
Picked up my 2021 TRD offroad DCSB in army green with the tech package and led headlight package. I’m so happy! Chose automatic to enjoy the crawl control feature. Added Tyger side steps, IRX35 tint, a dash cam, and trifold cover. It does well off-roading in this stock form.
Just hit 100k on my 2016 TRD Off-road. Thank you for the video. Same issue with the battery but with a jump I just went to autozone and replaced there. Also shocks went out around 80k. I sure do like off-roading so that was to be expected. Had to reset the seatbelt light sensor, I’m assuming something shook loose when off-roading but it was free at the dealer (after some heated discussion). Love the truck, good video, hope my info can help other owners.
Thanks for the input...good to know a few more things that can potentially break down. Its so common especially how much I've taken her out. Honestly I wouldn't trade her for anything else.
Thanks, yea she's a money pit for sure but totally worth it. Actually that was in Yellowstone and really normal to see bison walking on the street like that.
I have a Tacoma TRD Offroad pre runner SR5 with nearly 200K miles with no issues. But i don't modify anything from factory besides larger tires on factory rims. I do know people who do modifications and live to regret it. Another thing is I don't have a backup camera but know those who do. And when they lift the truck beyond factory specs, they seem to have a problem with backup camera. Toyota has done a good job building the Tacoma but it's not to be messed with in my opinion. My truck doesn't give me a lick of problem, but I don't modify it from factory specs.
Sorry for your troubles . I recently hit 120,000 on my 2014 2.4L Tacoma with zero issues. The more tech the more issues. The digital displays are a drag
I got a 2020 Tacoma and I’m about to hit 100k miles on it, and thankfull, I’ve only dealt with oil changes, nothing has broken yet, but im anticipating it lol I’ve always loved Tacomas and this is my first one I was able to afford! I plan on keeping this one forever!
hey man, nice video! I’m planning on buying one this month and I’m just not sure which one to go with. I was leaning with the SR5 cuz my budget is like 30-35k. What do you think I should go with? thanks!
It's going to honestly be what you plan to do with it. If you don't plan on going off roading and camping the sr5 is plenty, but if you want to have a bit more comfort the sport might be what you want, and if you really wan to do more off roading than a 4x4 or an off road 4x4 might be what you want. Being the budget is 30-35, the sr5 4x4 is what I recommend, and later on you can add more stuff to your liking.
I have a 2016 SR5 V6 4x4. Got it use with 72000 miles. I had the 3rd break lite leak and I just had timing chain cover resealed, it was leaking oil. Both were covered under the certified pre-owned warranty. I got lucky on those. Given those 2 problems I love my truck. I know it will get to over 200k
Wow...glad the warranty covered it. Would've been an expensive fix. Yea, I don't doubt that if I keep this Tacoma, I can easily go 200k. They are so reliable.
@@Michael_Tran you could also look into an arb air locker, then you’d also have on board air for inflating tires. I’m thinking of buying one for my 2001 pre runner 🤙
@@ethangordon6592 That's another route im thinking of going too, hopefully financially I can get a newer truck, but if not it's the most cost effective for sure.
What are the differences. Just curious. I was looking at some of these and I figured I probably wouldn’t go off-roading too often so thought sport would be better but would love to hear some feedback from people who own the already.
@@spencerdrozdowski7561 I would've purchased either one ,for me I like the black wheel flares on the off road vs. the painted ones on the sport. The off road has a locking rear diff and the sport doesn't but I'm sure its still quite a capable rig.
Good information. The battery is 24F (super common) good for four years. I have a TOPDON ($50) battery tester and start checking after they are two years old. I just got a 2021 DCLB (Double Cab Long Bed) Off-Road. I like having the 6' bed, comes in handy. The 2021 "car play" is still the sucky etune. No Google maps, nor Waze, Scout GPS is the only option (it sucks). 2022 will be a new design, hopefully with true Android Car Play. For me Off-Road as I wanted the locker (95% of my off-road is easily done in 2WD, 4.9% in 4WD; so 0.1% I can use a locker.) I'll add rock sliders, mainly as insurance to prevent a crushed rocker and a door not functioning The biggest downside is our 950-pound payload gets reduced. My FJ60 was deadstock, still running at 400,000 miles (maintenance, don't overlook brake fluid and power steering every five years. The fuel tank was replaced under Toyota Warranty but clutch (250,000 miles), water pump, and alternator/starter brushes, and wear items. The only other tip, there are a ton of knock-off "OEM" parts being sold on Amazon and eBay. As much I hate the dealership, I do buy items from them to ensure they are OEM and not "made in china, but marked "all original Japan". Huge problem. Too old to make videos anymore, so keep up the good work and keep 'em coming.
Man, some good infos Tom. Thanks for the support, us youngster can learn a lot from you guys. I hope to have this truck for a long time so thanks for the tips. I agree the long bed comes in handy.
Nice, thorough review! Sitting at around 2k miles right now-no problems yet! If you were to get a TRD, get the Off Road for the rear locker. We’re really going to miss this 2wd Tacoma-it’s given us so much inspiration. There are more fellow 2wd Tacoma’s out there than you might think, just hiding in the shadows. It’ll be sad to see her go.
Thanks bro. 2k, it's till tons of adventure left haha. I might keep the 2wd for the content lol. But thanks for the feedback, ill definitely still debating on the purchase.
My ‘95 Honda did that door hinge noise too. It had to be with the door pin getting worn down. I just put a bolt through and tightened it down. It fixed it
@Michael Tran the door click is from the black plastic level that goes in and out with the door.. you have to tighten up the door side of the bolt.. just run your hand along the side there and you will see a loose bolt.
2021 Tacaoma SR battery started leaking at 15k miles. Leaked acid all over the fender and somehow acid also got on the hood. Toyota repalced the battery under warranty and had to have the truck repainted under the hood. Total cost $2300 covered under warranty thankfully
I have a 2016 Taco and the only thing that has broken is the tail gate bushing that lets the gate down easy. I have replaced that with a current design bushing and mount.
I have a 2019 TRD Sport 4x4 double-cab 6’ bed and honestly it’s been fucking AMAZING! Have taken it to Yosemite and Big Bear during heavy snow covering roads completely. The 4x4 system handled the slippery conditions no-problem beyond my expectations (no need for chains so far!). Yup, battery started cranking slower after 50k and replaced it with Optima Yellow top before it could fail. K&N air filter into factory box since new. Replaced spark plugs myself with NGK Laser iridium around 70k as preventative maintenance. New tires at 72k. Most exterior and interior lights LED as well. Headlight bulbs Morimoto HID kit provide superior nighttime visibility. Serpentine belt changed around 75k after annoying squealing. Agreed, love the hood scoop too though I did notice it IS functional - has removable splash guard on the inside which allows light to bleed through from flashlight placed in it from the outside. Also, one TPS tire sensor replaced under warranty around 25k. Close to 100k now as we speak! Thinking about getting another 4x4 Tacoma in the future after much thought rather than the roomier Tundra due to fuel economy and agility the smaller frame has. 5/5 stars! Reliability is undeniable. Cheers! 😎👍🏼
Wow...you definitely have a successful truck. Honestly no truck is without an issue...people that complain about minor stuff on any truck is kinda lame. It's my 3rd Tacoma and im a buyer for life. Only reason I got a 4x4 now is so I can explore more trails with it but if my last truck was a 4x4 I wouldn't have sold it for a new truck.
We get screwed in Canada for the 2023 . The Only choices we get for manual is TRD Off Road Standard package but Access cab, TRD Sport Premium and the TRD Pro. And only the choices for Bird eye and LED lights is Pro and LTD edition.
O4 Tacoma SR5 150,000 miles. Just put on my 2nd water pump. First one was (leaking) but did not fail @ 70,000 miles. Dealer wanted $750. My local garage did it with a NAPA pump for $285. Just back in @ 146,000 for oil change and water pump leaking again. Replaced with another NAPA pump. I use the truck to tow my camper out of town which accounts for most of the miles. Next time they tell me it's leaking I think I will drive it until it fails and see how many miles it will go while carrying a pare pump.
Great Video and great looking ride, my 19 trd off road has 174k lifted fox shocks 3rd set of tires. The battery cooked at 105k I switched out all the lights to led . Oh and still original brakes. You’ve got a long way to go Bro!!! 😎🤘
2018 TRD OR Double cab midnight black on black 77,000 Still has original battery, no issues at all aside from being a gas hog for a V6 🤣 Engine oil (every 5k), diffs+Tcase oil (every 30k), trans flush (60k), spark plugs (70k they looked perfectly fine tbh), pads, rotors, tires, one fog lamp (changed everything to LEDs afterwards) and wiper fluid. That's it. That's all I've ever needed to do. The wiper blades, rear shoes, brake fluid, coolant and power steering fluid are all that's still from the factory. Nuts
Thanks for providing the links to everything below. I recently purchased a 2019 Trd pro and have been looking at a few different components for the last week. Tire and wheel size combo, lift if needed, Body modifications to get rid of rubbing issues. Just out of curiosity, with your set up, what mpg do you get city/hwy? Average footing without the added weight in the bed of your truck?
Glad you found it usefully. It does help the channel if you buy from the link. So I'm currently running 285/75/16 KO2 with no rubbing, no body mount chop. MPG is horrible at 15-18...before all the mods around 20-22 but I do carried around 300lbs of work equipment on my truck daily.
@@Michael_Tran I drove this thing 1500 miles in about a week. I didn’t like how it maintains 75mph on a small hill climb. It kept jumping gears and got a little annoying after awhile. Noticed there is a TSB that might help? As for wheels suspension and tires that will change too within the next few months. Kings, volks TE37x and 285/75. Thinking gears too. 4.59 seems to be the magic number for that set up.
Currently have a 2wd 2021 Off Road, not going to lie I've found myself wanting a 4x4 but then I realize here in sunny Southern California, I dont really need one... and then I ran into your videos & it makes feel a lot better knowing I can do all these things with "just" a 2WD. Love your videos & your truck! Thank you Michael!
Thanks for the positive feedback and encouragement bro. Yea, 4x4 sounds nice but 2wd have gotten us to some cool places for sure. I might keep the truck for the content haha
2016 limited with 98,000 the only issues I've had were the windshield chipping easily the bed cover leaking and the AC on the PS is not as cold for some reason!
2019 sr5 dclb 78k 2wd. Truck has Trd pro shocks and wheels with 265/75/16 Goodyear. Skid plate. Change rear diff and transmission oil at 60k. I haul about 1200 pounds daily. Battery is original. Running HID headlights and BD fogs. And last I had to replace the plastic bushing for $10 on the tailgate. Good idea to buy one ahead because it’s a pain to open the tail gate without the damping.
I got a 2021 2WD TRD sport. 1400 miles, suspension lift is going on next week. Thanks for the channel it has helped me make the decision to lift my truck and how to do it.
I’m going with Eibach stage 1, icon AAL, dirt king UCAs. 275/70/17 wild peaks, and method 316s I was originally going to jus do spacers and blocks but I scraped up as much $ as I could to try and achieve a little better ride and some functionality.
Very helpful video and good to know what may happen. I just have over 700 mis. so I’m good for now. Your video is really clear so I’m wondering if you’re filming in 4K by any chance?
A guy t-boned my 05 TRD Prerunner and his insurance totalled it. They gave me over 12K for it. It had Moto Metal wheels and new tires and nothing else as far as aftermarket upgrades. A/C had gone out, but in 15 years I had the truck (bought it new) I only had to replace the front left wheel bearing and that was it. Talk about resale value. I now drive a 21 TRD Offroad 4X4 and am in the process of gearing it up. TACOMA FOR LIFE!
I bought a new 2020 TRDPRO last year. I would do it again. I installed an aftermarket DS A pillar grab handle, Diamondback bed cover and a few other minor goodies. All the major things like tires, suspension etc. I have no desire to modify.
I have a 2017 SR5, bought 1/24/17 hit 100k on 6/30/21, only issues I've had were the A/C fan broke and leaf springs were squeaking but Toyota warrantied those, battery failed in 2 yrs. The high brake light got a huge leak into the cab(which apparently several owners have had this too) luckily my dealer decided to warranty that too. OEM tires lasted a little over a year. Other than that I've had no big issues.
Take your truck to discount tire, they can reset your tire sensor under 2 minutes. Happened to me when i changed my tires from other tire shop & they couldn’t figure out why’s my tpms is not working. I guess discount tires has better equipment. If you need a tune hit me up.
Unfortunately I sold those tires long ago haha. I did get a quote to get new ones but didn't care to put them in. Maybe in the future if I am planning on selling the truck.
2016 trd off-road with 78000 miles. Used for over landing and daily driver. Only do what you need to do for off road travel. Get the 6’ bed. Amazing times in super remote areas in the southwest and Colorado.
Is there something unique to replacing the battery in these trucks. You mentioned you had to have it towed to replace the battery. Just curious, Thanks
Im not sure...but my situation was it didn't take a charge at all and was getting dark on a job. Had to tow it to a mechanic to get it replace so I can have a vehicle for work the next day.
Trd off road is definitely the way to go. You can always swap out the hood for the sport and get a TRD skid plate. The TRD off road premium comes with nice sequential LEDs. The rear locking diff is awesome and crawl control
Yes, well fully loaded or whatever you call it lol. I got mine with leather interior, sunroof and all the bells and whistles it came with LED headlights. My buddy got me a sweet deal on it as well. $37,200 out the door on a Tacoma off-road 4x4 premium
@@Alex_0982 Man, that is a really good deal. I gotta find your buddy haha. Awesome infos, ill look into that package as well, comfort is important as well as performance.
I’m a window cleaner myself. I had a wagon that I worked out of that crapped out finally at 227k miles. I ordered a trd off road double cab long bed in army green to use mainly for work but also some fun. Hope it’s worth the car payment lol
Nice...how long have you been in the window cleaning business? I started when I was 17...going on 20 years. The Tacoma have made me a lot of money and have gotten us to see some beautiful area. I didn't mind the payment since it's so reliable.
@@Michael_Tran Man you been at it awhile! Expert level at that point lol. I got into window cleaning about 8 years ago. I couldn’t think of a better job considering what you can make and the flexibility of your schedule (so long as your self employed), except for when it’s -20 outside during winter out here in Iowa haha
I just got my 2022 TRD 4X4 off-road 6-speed manual mine is the totally basic truck along with being manual transmission no technology package no backup sensors no blind spot monitoring no sunroof no heated seats... But that's 🆒 with me tho, less shit 2 break later on i guess
I have a 2016 sr 2.7l manual with 130k. Only thing to "fail" was my battery around 100k. Other than regular maintenance like plugs and air filter. Front pads at 100k
You want to see some real problems ? Buy a Chevy or a Ford what you have my friend is very minor , I just bought a 2021 TRD off road Tacoma double cab 4x4 and honestly best vehicle I have ever owned to date and I’ve had 18 diff trucks and cars SUV’s in the past 28 years
@@Michael_Tran what year was your ranger I've had two rangers before trying out a Tacoma currently an x runner the first ranger I had was a 1994 that served me well over 300,000 miles on it before it was caught in an accident the big thing that I remember from that small truck that had to be replaced was the air conditioner I then got a 2003 ranger with the 3.0 v6 and unfortunately after purchasing it I later found out that it was the troublesome motor out of the three variants between the 4 cylinder in the 4.0 v6 the truck started having consistently problems every month after I daily drive it around 270,000 including at that time something serious with the motor I decided to get fixed as I noticed quite a loss of power when flooring the gas found out it was something cracked on part of the engine it wasn't too serious but it was enough to lose power and it bugged me so I ended up fixing it they didn't cost me the amount of the truck I think it only cost me about 1,200 but still it seems like they started to have a bit more problems as the years go on
I used to work at a toyota dealership in the parts department I think the noise in your door might be the door stop needs replacing. You may wanna check that part out to see if that may be the issue.
Great video! What has broke on the Tacoma? Wear and tear parts 🤣! Oem batteries are terrible in most vehicles. I moved my old Optima yellow top from my Subaru into the Honda and it’s still going strong. There was One video where I spent a whole night trying to kill it by leaving the car on, didn’t happen. A portable jump starter is a good thing to have, I carry two and keep them stowed away from electronically open doors like my tail gate. Car dies and I can’t get back there
Yea, most of these are things that wouldn't bother me. Honestly, Toyota are so reliable that ill be awhile til some mechanical issue will come up. But hopefully it doesn't happen soon haha
So basically whatever didn't worked it fixed itself lol I don't count the battery because those go out at some point, mine had to get a valve job on cylinder number one because a code that said fuel to air ratio wasn't correct, it was donde under warranty thank God, that job was almost 5k, other than that no more issues, mine has 43k miles, btw get the TRD off road, it comes with the locker and crawl control
I have a 2WD TRD sport 2016, never had problems yet. Currently at 55k miles. I did change my oil filter housing to an aluminum one because the plastic oem cracked. I changed my rear diff fluid and found shavings which was the original fluid. I haven’t changed my trans fluid yet, kinda due for one according to manual. BUT one thing I suggest is getting a dash cam because i did get my wheels stolen.
Wow, good infos to know. Yea im due for a few maintenance on the truck for sure. Ill look into the dash cam as well. Tacoma are definitely reliable that's why we are all fan boys of them haha
I think I hit 100k in under 24 months of owning my 17 TRD sport. Love the rig bro. Only thing I have had to replace would be the original battery @ 115Kmiles
I was driving from basically SD to Petaluma on Sunday night work through Thursday morning. Grave yard shift. Then either head to Portland OR OR back to SD. So I would basically do an oil change a month or less... but I sold my place down south this year so I barely fill the tank these days.
2016 TRD sport with tech package, 1.5 lift front 1 rear. New battery last week. 44k miles, BSM went out at 38k, otherwise no issues. Only one recall on frame, made in Mexico
There was a TSB on it so waiting to see if anything is covered, otherwise almost 800.00. Looks easy enough to replace, so can get by for price of the modular behind left bumper cap for 300.00
TRD sport premium manual transmission and it's been great. I ultimately want the next gen pro, because I don't plan on modding anything besides just some better rubber. Wouldn't see the point on swapping perfectly capable fox suspension. Each to their own though
@@Michael_Tran you will like what you like I guess haha. In Alberta Canada here I could only get a 6sp manual in the short bed..it's ok, whatever I guess haha
More Love than hate. TPMS unit is battery operated & wears out. Good to know truck will still operate without working TPMS. If you change a TPMS unit, it has to be programmed to the truck computer.(A Pain). When I 1st got my 18 MT Taco, I went to Amazon & ordered a Jeep grab handle. Remove the plastic cover on the dr-side pillar, there are 2 metal mounts for a gr-handle. Recently you can order a factory dr-side gr-handle kit for your Taco.
Yea, that's another reason I didn't want to deal with the TPMS, they said it has to be done at the dealership. I've seen a few mods for the grab handle, ill look into too. Thanks for the reference.
Took it for my 100k mile service and they said my water pump and Valve top cover gasket need to be replaced over 6000k worth of work really disappointed that all that is needed on a 40k truck
Replacing the battery isn't a "breakdown." As far as your other complaints, really? My 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport has 77K miles. I've replaced tires and battery. I also had a gasket issue which was covered by my power train warranty. Your problems are minor.
Just picked up a 2021 TRD Pro Tacoma, and I love this thing! I can only hope to have a trouble-free experience for the lifetime of ownership. I mean its a Toyota after all, right? 🤣
I too picked up a 2021 Pro. 1100 miles to date. I bet you I get this to 500k miles in 25 years. I’m real anal about changing all of my fluids before OEM recommendations. Just changed the engine oil at 1k. At 5k I’m going to change the oil and filter again, to flush out anything during the break in period, along with my differentials, transfer case AND transmission oils. I know I’m CRAZY!
So I'm stuck on what to get, Ranger FX4 or a Toy TRD OR. With the Ford to get a 3" lift i just need lift to use 285 tires. With the Toy i need 529 gears and lift. Plus I would need to OV tune it too. I would put an easy 6-8 grand out the dealer. It would be a better option for me to get a Ranger.
I've had the 03 Ranger XLT before and I love that truck. Never had issue with it. I do like the new Ranger a lot not gonna lie. However owning the 2nd Gen Tacoma made me an Tacoma fanboys for sure, the reliability and resale value was awesome. However the mpg will suffer for sure once it's lifted, im getting 15-18mpg at the moment.
My 2017 sport 4x4 manual is doing great at 133,000. Besides replacing consumables the only thing so far that might need major service is going to be the steering rack
Awesome that you're getting a 4x4! It's going to give you so much more confidence as to the trails you can take. Although I'm pretty damn impressed by the places you've been able to take your 4x2 so far!
Yea, I've definitely use the heck out of this truck. A 4x4 though will definitely fit our lifestyle much better as we're getting more and more into overlanding/off-roading.
My 2021 battery went on my truck the 1st year. The dealer replaced the battery with another Toyota battery (free of charge) that has a 7 or 8 year warranty! I didn't know that existed. I will use that warranty if need be lol.
@@Michael_Tran i took my tacoma in the route of brute power for such a small truck compared to other trucks. It’s pretty funny actually cause people will see it and think it won’t beat their stang and then it does🤣! I absolutely love your yota though it looks so good!
I have a 2016 with 25,000 miles. Battery went at 4 years. I put led lights in the front. No other mods or issues. Everytime I see it in the garage, I smile. I love this thing. Cool video
We always do a double take, sometime triple take when walking away from the truck haha. I feel ya.
Lemme how its running. About to buy a 2016 now in 2021 because good prices.
It runs great, no issues. I hear about frames rusting out on the older ones. So I do worry about that, but it has been checked and no issues so far

My wallet broke almost immediately after purchasing my Taco.

Yep!
I have a 2017 Trd OR. Got it with 58k mild on it. It’s on 97k now
Not a single issue so far.
Thank God 🙌🏼
131,000 on a 2016 TRD Off-road changed spark plugs at 96k new battery around the same time, wiper blades and air filters changed, but no issues! Oil change every 8-12k miles running royal purple.
2019 TRD Off Road owner here with 25k miles. Upgrades:
1) 3” King Racing lift kit with 33” tires and American Racing wheels
2) LEDs in every hole plus ditch light pods on the A-pillars
3) SPOD switch pro module
4) Shift Commander - helps minimize 5/6 gear hunting on freeways with hills
5) Tool box with backup battery heavy duty cables to an underhood tender (charger)
6) Clazzio seat covers
7) Front speaker and dash tweeter upgrades and boom mat in both front doors
8) Center console divider
This truck is going to last at least a decade with ordinary maintenance. The value and utility are extraordinary.
I agree, you have plenty of years left on her. How you like them Kings? I would like either Fox or Kings on the next built.
@@Michael_Tran have you tried the tpms reset button? I know when I have done tire rotations, I had to reset the system by holding the button.
@@JAMESWUERTELE I already got rid of them so long ago, I was quoted to get new ones but I opt out instead haha
Are batteries in these easy to replace? I did it in my 2003 pickup truck once and it was pretty easy, but I realized that times have changed lol
That's a good point. Ill have to see the 2 prices and go from there. Thanks for the feedback
2016 at 156,000mi so far. Hope it makes 400,000. I have owned several Toyotas and I can relate to your issues. Everything will break except for the engine and transmission.😊
That's awesome! Regular maintenance and it goes for a long way
Picked up my 2021 TRD offroad DCSB in army green with the tech package and led headlight package. I’m so happy! Chose automatic to enjoy the crawl control feature. Added Tyger side steps, IRX35 tint, a dash cam, and trifold cover. It does well off-roading in this stock form.
Nice! Have you taking it out to any trail yet? I really considering the off road as well, army green looks nice!
Do you have a picture of it?
I just got the 2021 TRD Off Road 4x4 and love it! Great video!
Thanks, the off road 4x4 is a beast.
Love the video bro and nice taco! my 2017 kickin my butt financially but still love it haha
AT 3:16 looks like a scary situation LOL
The digital displays are a drag
i just got a 2015 Taco trd pro and averytime i walk by it at home or at work its all i look at. Beautiful truck
Me too...it's a great designed truck
I got a 2020 Tacoma and I’m about to hit 100k miles on it, and thankfull, I’ve only dealt with oil changes, nothing has broken yet, but im anticipating it lol
I’ve always loved Tacomas and this is my first one I was able to afford! I plan on keeping this one forever!
Nice man! Im sure with the proper care ill last for another 100k easily
That's a clean truck. I'm still driving my 35 year Toyota Truck 4×4 with endless miles. Keeps working I'll keep on driving...
hey man, nice video!
@@Michael_Tran thank you!!! I’ve been leaning towards the SR5 4x4 and it almost 40k 😵💫 I’m really scared going to the dealership and over paying.
@@eliseodiaz4656 I feel ya man...prices of trucks now are skyrocketing due to shortages, kinda sucks cause the dealer knows it.
For sure get the off road model . That rear locker makes a huge difference .
Seems like it's the selling point for sure. Definitely in my radar
It also has a stronger rear end than the sport.
@@blakeberlin6295 Good to know. Thanks
@@Michael_Tran you could also look into an arb air locker, then you’d also have on board air for inflating tires. I’m thinking of buying one for my 2001 pre runner 🤙

TRD off road 100%. Way more functional than the sport IMO. I bought a long bed OF. No regrets
I just traded my 04 Tacoma on a double cab long bed off road and I love it.

Must be the same battery in my 2015 TRD, lasted about 4 years and died. 86K miles now and that's been the only thing👍👌
Yea...maybe. Hopefully nothing major

Hey bro. I currently running 285/75/16 KO2 and Method NV 305 bronze
Sweeeeet! They look really good 😍
@Michael Tran the door click is from the black plastic level that goes in and out with the door.. you have to tighten up the door side of the bolt.. just run your hand along the side there and you will see a loose bolt.
2021 Tacaoma SR battery started leaking at 15k miles. Leaked acid all over the fender and somehow acid also got on the hood. Toyota repalced the battery under warranty and had to have the truck repainted under the hood. Total cost $2300 covered under warranty thankfully
Wow...that's brand new. Glad Toyota took care of that issue.
I have a 2016 Taco and the only thing that has broken is the tail gate bushing that lets the gate down easy. I have replaced that with a current design bushing and mount.
That's not bad at all
I have a 2019 TRD Sport 4x4 double-cab 6’ bed and honestly it’s been fucking AMAZING!
TRD OFF ROAD 4x4 👌
Definitely the most capable.
We get screwed in Canada for the 2023 . The Only choices we get for manual is TRD Off Road Standard package but Access cab, TRD Sport Premium and the TRD Pro. And only the choices for Bird eye and LED lights is Pro and LTD edition.

You want to see some real problems ? Buy a Chevy or a Ford what you have my friend is very minor , I just bought a 2021 TRD off road Tacoma double cab 4x4 and honestly best vehicle I have ever owned to date and I’ve had 18 diff trucks and cars SUV’s in the past 28 years
I had a Ranger before my 2 Tacomas...never had any issue, however the Tacoma is the more reliable for sure.
@@Michael_Tran what year was your ranger I've had two rangers before trying out a Tacoma currently an x runner the first ranger I had was a 1994 that served me well over 300,000 miles on it before it was caught in an accident the big thing that I remember from that small truck that had to be replaced was the air conditioner I then got a 2003 ranger with the 3.0 v6 and unfortunately after purchasing it I later found out that it was the troublesome motor out of the three variants between the 4 cylinder in the 4.0 v6 the truck started having consistently problems every month after I daily drive it around 270,000 including at that time something serious with the motor I decided to get fixed as I noticed quite a loss of power when flooring the gas found out it was something cracked on part of the engine it wasn't too serious but it was enough to lose power and it bugged me so I ended up fixing it they didn't cost me the amount of the truck I think it only cost me about 1,200 but still it seems like they started to have a bit more problems as the years go on
@@Ziyoblader it was an 03 XLT, never had any issue, sold around 120k miles to get a new truck but I honestly love that truck.
I used to work at a toyota dealership in the parts department I think the noise in your door might be the door stop needs replacing. You may wanna check that part out to see if that may be the issue.
Thanks man, I didn't want to open it unless I know what iam looking for.
@@Michael_Tran you're welcome.
Great video! What has broke on the Tacoma? Wear and tear parts 🤣! Oem batteries are terrible in most vehicles. I moved my old Optima yellow top from my Subaru into the Honda and it’s still going strong. There was
One video where I spent a whole night trying to kill it by leaving the car on, didn’t happen.
Good update!
Man, that seems like an expensive part. Glad Toyota was able to cover the cost.
Good review 👍thanks 😊
No problem
Wow...man, how did you hit that number so quick?
I was driving from basically SD to Petaluma on Sunday night work through Thursday morning. Grave yard shift. Then either head to Portland OR OR back to SD. So I would basically do an oil change a month or less... but I sold my place down south this year so I barely fill the tank these days.
I have a little over 100k on my softtop
@@PNW-LOGGING-HOMESTEAD Wow...you definitely used your truck. That's some commute man, glad the Tacoma held up for ya.
2016 TRD sport with tech package, 1.5 lift front 1 rear. New battery last week. 44k miles, BSM went out at 38k, otherwise no issues. Only one recall on frame, made in Mexico
Good to know about the BSM, was it expensive to replace?
There was a TSB on it so waiting to see if anything is covered, otherwise almost 800.00. Looks easy enough to replace, so can get by for price of the modular behind left bumper cap for 300.00
@@tompasch2447 I've done it myself before, just take it easy, it's super sensitive.
The battery is no problem in the tacoma
I got the same color 2018 TRD Sport creeping up on 40k miles. Love it. #tacogang
Best color in my opinion...too bad they got rid of the color.
TRD sport premium manual transmission and it's been great. I ultimately want the next gen pro, because I don't plan on modding anything besides just some better rubber. Wouldn't see the point on swapping perfectly capable fox suspension. Each to their own though
I agree...the fox suspension is really good. If only the have the pro with 6ft bed, that will solved all my problem haha
Nice shades. What brand?
Thanks...it's a Brazilian brand called Chilli
Almost guarantee that screen issue is a cable harness related one, most likely coming loose on one of the horizontal sync lines for the display.
That's interesting, ill look into it again if it happens.
Took it for my 100k mile service and they said my water pump and Valve top cover gasket need to be replaced over 6000k worth of work really disappointed that all that is needed on a 40k truck
Man...that sounds bad. Hopefully theres no more issue after that. Crazy that some have no major issue at all and some have major ones.
Yes for sure, thanks for the info good luck 👍🏻
Replacing the battery isn't a "breakdown." As far as your other complaints, really? My 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport has 77K miles. I've replaced tires and battery. I also had a gasket issue which was covered by my power train warranty. Your problems are minor.
I agree, it's just minor. I honestly don't even notice them, unless it's the backup sonar.
2019 Taco sport. 130,000 mi. Still have the OEM battery. 9/2018 written on the side. Fingers crossed. Good looking truck by the way.
What's your Led light bar setup, and cost?,just curious. Thanks
Its a c4 fab lo pro bumper...with 30inch extreme led light bar. Around $800
@@Michael_Tran 🤙
Just picked up a 2021 TRD Pro Tacoma, and I love this thing! I can only hope to have a trouble-free experience for the lifetime of ownership. I mean its a Toyota after all, right? 🤣
Dude, the Pro is the top dog. Yea, ill last you forever haha
@Dale Macarena black
@Dale Macarena black. Sorry, answered the question for the other guy
Also installed a Diamondback cover with the black smooth finish
Nice! How you liking the manual?
@@Michael_Tran I love manual! Wished the tundras came in manual otherwise my taco is staying for the long run
@@ivanl1154 Nice!
Awesome that you're getting a 4x4! It's going to give you so much more confidence as to the trails you can take. Although I'm pretty damn impressed by the places you've been able to take your 4x2 so far!
Yea, I've definitely use the heck out of this truck. A 4x4 though will definitely fit our lifestyle much better as we're getting more and more into overlanding/off-roading.
i might buy a 2018 TRD sport with 110k miles on it for $27k. Do you think it's worth it?
Depending on the condition...but that seems about right depending where you're at though.
Essentially you just broke it in. 😊
My 2021 battery went on my truck the 1st year. The dealer replaced the battery with another Toyota battery (free of charge) that has a 7 or 8 year warranty! I didn't know that existed. I will use that warranty if need be lol.
Seems like the battery gives out the quickest
i’ve got an SR5 TSS and it’s a stage 2 pushing 460hp currently at 52k miles!
Nice! What year?
@@Michael_Tran 2016
@@Michael_Tran i took my tacoma in the route of brute power for such a small truck compared to other trucks. It’s pretty funny actually cause people will see it and think it won’t beat their stang and then it does🤣! I absolutely love your yota though it looks so good!
@@jasontodd1141 Thanks bro...how did you get it to 460hp? New engine?
@@Michael_Tran i’ve got a twin turbo at 10 psi on her, k&n 77 series cai, new headers, re- geared, and a hell of a tune!
