i tend to do research before i buy a series physically so there’s not many i end up disliking or dropping part of the way through tbh but if y’all are curious the other series i dropped in 2021 were: his favorite, we never learn, cross game, hatsu haru, yozakura quartet, and ranma 1/2 also i would have put more effort into this video if i knew y’all were gonna like it omg 😂
Oh im curious as to why you dropped ranma 1/2?, ive been wanting to read this series. I love hearing your negative thoughts on manga, they come in handy!
@@butter_fly3539 that’s just it, i didn’t mind it but i wasn’t in love with it, even when i saw the volumes on sale i wasn’t compelled to buy more and that was a sign for me
@@AtomicWhiskers idk why but i can’t get into any of rumiko takahashis works, i’ve tried inuyasha ranma and maison ikkoku but for ranma specifically i read 3 volumes and it was so repetitive it’s about this guy named ranma who is cursed and turns into a girl when he’s splashed with water and everyone’s like in love with both his forms and they want to fight his fiancé for him and idk just repetitive and not funny imo plus i’m not a fan of the whole body swapping gender swapping thing
I completely agree with what you said about Komi can’t communicate. I personally wasn’t a big fan of a bunch of the side characters (found them almost annoying tbh) but I love her and Tadanos relationship so I kinda just stuck around for that. Over all though it is a wholesome series.
glad to see you have a similar opinion! i liked the anime much more since they did focus more on komi and tadano but i wonder how hardcore fans of the series felt about them cutting out some of the more .... interesting parts out
Beastars is def my fav of 2021, I watched anime, bought the manga for christmas, I am truly, truly in love with this series, unfortunately in Poland now we only have 6 volumes, I can't wait for more
yay!! glad you're enjoying it, my fave of the year as well, we are a bit over half way through here and i can say it just keeps getting better and better
i'm going to be honest i felt like crap for a few days after finishing it but i'm okay now, happy for the people who love the series and got something meaningful out of it though
I know you said that you are afraid of sharing your true thoughts on things that you don't like, but personally, I really like hearing that. I don't like watching reviews or reading logs that give some generic description of the plot and a basic reason for liking/disliking the series (like yeah thanks for the word sandwich). Anyways, I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work 😄
i'll keep that in mind for the future 👁 in my reading logs i do think i say what i feel like needs to be said about why i didn't like something but i always add in a "but maybe i'll try one more volume" to be optimistic about it but i always just end up selling those series lol so maybe i should do an unhaul type thing ,, and ty :)
I'm genuinely always happy to hear your opinions on series! I am just 3 (very hard to find) volumes away from completing my 20th Century boys singles and planning my binge read out - happy you enjoyed it. - Jerry
would you ever consider reading yona of the dawn?? it’s my favorite shojo manga and has a great balance of romance, action, and humor. the “main cast” is very enjoyable and even though the premise at first surround yona may be off putting (her being in love with her cousin), but that quickly goes away. also, imo, i don’t think she was really in love with him that way (but that’s another conversation).
I love ur input ! I’ve seen a lot of people give reviews but they don’t rlly go in to as much depth as you . This changed my mind on a lot of my future manga choices so it also helped me save some money on books I probably won’t enjoy! Ur honesty is so much needed because I barely hear people talk about things they don’t like on their favorite manga
ah thank you so much!! and i'm glad, i'm always hesitant to share my more negative opinions but i'm happy it can help others make decisions on what series to buy or not
i was hesitant on getting waiting for spring and after you explained i will DEFINITELY not be getting it i dont like boring, pedophilia, pushy, and the mc’s being boring af that has all the people falling for them anyways i wanna try hinamatsuri even if im not a huge fan of yakuza i love comedy
yes i hate when the mc that everyone is in love with for some reason is boring like ... WHY but ya looking back at the series it was alright but boring until the end was a very wtf moment which led me to sell the series
@@amandak.4246 ya nana is super adamant about rejecting ryuuji until like the very very end they get together and all of a sudden their relationship goes from 1 to 100 it's so off putting and random
thank you for not sugarcoating your reviews, it genuinely helps me on what to choose to read and what not to. i was considering waiting for spring, but after hearing your review i’m absolutely disgusted and i’m definitely not checking it out. i also wanted to get your opinion on two series im currently reading: 1. spyxfamily 2. moriarty the patriot. your video was super helpful overall and again thank u so much for the amazing and detailed reviews!
my opinions aren't fact or anything but glad i could help with some decisions by sharing :) and i love spy x family, one of my new favorites and i'm really excited for the anime coming soon, i haven't read moriarty though
My favourite series I read in 2021 was definitely Blue Period. Got sucked to into it from the first volume and can't wait for the rest of the volumes to be released! The anime for it felt a bit rushed to me and I haven't finished it yet to avoid spoilers.
good to know about the anime! i haven't tried it yet but i'll stay away until i catch up some more, waiting for my volume 5 so i can binge some volumes
I bought high school debut of on a whim a couple weeks ago because of your channel and I do not regret it 😭 I was a little hesitant because I was scared I wouldn’t like it and didn’t know much about it (I thought it was about boxing idk why 💀) but it’s so cute and funny literally my kinda romance, thanks so much!!
Hinamatsuri soooo gooood I hope they start printing the volumes 10+ a month!!!!!!!!!! Oh nooo my wife was looking to try Life lessons I didint know the guy was messing with the kinds in that way.
@@tsukkinotes I will say though your thoughts line up most of the time with hers and they way you described it makes sense and she might not enjoy it for that reason. But who knows!
great video! would definitely like to see more of these kinds of vids in the future. Also, i heavily agree on why you dropped the komi manga, it really felt like those whacky side characters weren't needed at all especially the lil yandere, she kills the series for me more than anything but the anime was def done right! also waiting for spring was such an L, i remember reading it like 5-7 months ago and being hyped about collecting it i got like 11 volumes and decided to read it only to find out vols 4-13 literally all had the same content, it was nothing new or special just the main girl going back and forth on her feelings, another series that is similar to waiting for spring is cheeky brat aka namaikizakari and maaaannnn i wanted to love it so much because ppl said it was like maid sama but it had the same problem as waiting for spring!! the writer spent over 70 chs on a love triangle that didnt really make sense and like there didnt need to be all that drama, writers can be so frustrating sometimes, anyways i was wondering if youve read high school debut all the way thru or did you only read the first omnibus?
thank you! and glad to see someone shares the same opinions as me haha, the same thing happened to me with waiting for spring, i bought all the volumes at once based on recommendations and i just kept reading even though it was boring bc whatever i already bought it but that wtf ending caught me so off guard and gave me the final push to drop it lol, and interesting about cheeky brat, i've been seeing it in everyone's hauls lately but since i heard it's an enemies to loves type thing i won't be picking it up since i hate that dynamic, and i've read all of hs debut!! i love it so much, highly recommend it
woahh definitely gonna read hina matsuri~ sounds just like my thing >:D My top three this year: Toilet Bound Hanako Kun One Punch Man Haikyuu! (I don’t really have any ‘worst’ ones because I just got into reading manga this year aHaha)
I know you said that you don’t really like sharing your negative opinions too much on your channel, which is understandable, but I love hearing about them lol. Watching this video made me realize I am really harsh when it comes to my ratings. I’ve given series I enjoy a 6/10 lol.
nooo haha i think i'm just too nice, anything below like a 7 means a series was bad for me but i'm pretty sure on MAL a 6 still means "good" ,, it just looks so sad to me to have like 2/10 or something next to a series 😂
@@tsukkinotes I am the complete opposite lol, I get immense satisfaction from giving a terrible series a low rating. Which is probably not surprising when you consider how much I love to talk about stuff I dislike.
I just got all of Hinamatsuri from the RightStuf sale I really need to start it! My Dress-up Darling anime comes out today I think and I'm still wait for all My Dress-Up Darling to ship from RightStuf; I can not wait! The anime for Komi does exactly what you said I like it as well. I haven't read BoTi yet but I love bloody seinen and shonen (Tokyo Ghoul, Doroehdoro, Vinland Saga) so I can get why you may not like it. I do respect you stepping outside you usual favorite genres and giving us an honest review. Thank you for releasing another great video!
nice!! hope you enjoy them both :) and for sure if you like that genre you will most likely like blade of the immortal, i'm glad i tried it out just ultimately wasn't for me
Blade of the immortal suffers from the same issues as berserk where the first 3 volumes really are not great and do not at all reflect what the series become. I dropped both after the initial 3 volumes because they werent good. I then revisited them years later and was surprised that in volume 4 onwards there are drastic shifts in approach for each and they improve dramatically. I personally now recommend anyone interested to start both at volume 4 and just read volumes 1-3 later. BotI probably wont be your thing even after but I find it interesting that 2 of the most well regarded darker action seinen manga have equally bad opening 3 volumes. Granted I've also been told people love the beginnings of them. As to what I actually read this year Witch Hat Atelier, Blue Period and No.5 are my favorite ongoings. Cats of the Lourve, Sakuran and Yoshiharu Tsuge's Red Flowers were my favorites of what I completed. Dropped Jujutsu Kaisen, Knights of Sidonia, Ran and the gray world and strongly disliked Sanctuary and Escaflowne manga all of which I've either sold, plan to sell or gave to a friend.
thanks for the insight! i haven't read berserk but that is odd about the beginnings for both being rough but that makes sense as the series is trying to get its footing etc, i think we are just so used to newer series nailing the formula right away,, and nice picks! i'm currently reading blue period and i love it, i'll look into the other series you liked as well
It’s so cool to see new titles. I mean, I’m from a different country and there aren’t so much mangas translated. By watching your videos I get to discover new books to read :)
i feel like the manga explained the motivations of the characters sooo much better so i can see how the whole ... leg thing (i'm assuming you're referring to) seemed very out of nowhere but if it makes you feel any better the whole next arc is exploring the direct consequences of legoshi's actions during the whole murderer confrontation
I have only watched the anime for Beastars and the second season felt like it was missing something. left me kind of disappointed tbh. I think I'll have to go check out the manga if you rate it that highly :)
The second season compressed A LOT of the events in the manga, to the point where the character’s motivations didn’t really make sense (though I still found it enjoyable!).
@@gabyiskewl7678 good to know! yeah overall it was still pretty good I really liked the underbelly twist throughout the series - I thought that was awesome. I guess the ending and the motivation for it just felt a little rushed
yes!! highly recommend the manga, the events of s2 in the manga had me on the edge of the seat and like crying and screaming at some points and then when i watched how the anime adapted it i was like... oh okay 😅 plus the story keeps getting better and better and i think they announced the next anime season will be the last and there's still half the series to adapt so i have a feeling they are going to rush it
i personally liked komi cant communicate i loved the social anxiety representation especially because i suffer with two different anxiety disorders but i agree w you, i didn’t like the side characters either some were very weird and it just wasn’t funny to me i also disliked how they kept introducing new characters when i hadn’t even fully processed the last character it was kinda confusing n frustrating for me but overall i’d give it a 7/10 ^u^ i prefer the anime though since it focused on komi n tadano more i’d also love to hear more about your thoughts on sasaki to miyano and how you liked the 6th volume of given!!
agreed! i loved the aspects about anxiety and komi and tadanos relationship so i didn’t totally hate the series so i was so glad the anime was enjoyable, i’ll definitely stick with that adaptation from now on! and i’m loving sasaki and miyano, volume 5 is taking forever to come out but i’m watching the anime in the meantime and it’s so so cute! (haven’t gotten to given 6 yet)
I'm super late to this but I remember trying out Komi myself but I gave up on it pretty quickly. I found some of the themes really jarring and not funny where they were supposed to be. On the other side of things, I absolutely love Arakawa Under The Bridge! Edit: I also sell Manga I don't enjoy after reading. Definitely a good way to recycle/get at least some of your money back. (And hey maybe someone who does like it will buy it.)
glad to see i'm not the only one! ya some of the side characters really rubbed me the wrong way but i'm glad you liked arakawa! one of my faves,, and yes i agree, reuse and recycle! i donate to the library sometimes too
Great lists! I really want to get around reading Beastars because I did enjoy the first season of the anime when it aired. I feel like I have so many favorites from the year that it's hard to name only one lol. But one of my lowest rated was Dissolving Classroom by Junji Ito. It was fine but nothing that blew me away.
thank you! and yes i highly recommend the manga especially if you like the first season of the anime, the second season is okay but the manga is so much better
Always love your high standards on your reviews due to my age and decades of eating shit in the trenches and having been shot at mono e mono human relationships don’t work for me so I travel in my mind to countless places and ideas among the many pages of my library collection.
"eating shit in the trenches" 😂 i know how you feel, i've read many a bad series even recently but i know good ones are out there so i just keep pushing through or i could always reread my faves
I agree with you about Waiting for spring. I was recommended this series multiple times so I tried it ...and I hated it, I basically finished the series just because I don't like leaving things unfinished 😅
ya unfortunately i had bought the series all at once based on recommendation so i read the whole thing, it was boring or whatever so it wasn't the best thing ever but that last volume came out of nowhere and got me thinking about the series as a whole like ... ya i did not really like this lol
thank you!! and the anime is way more tame than the manga like they did keep in her kidnapping tadano but there's a whole chapter of her trying to see komi's underwear and weird stuff like that so :/ agreed not my type of humor ... idk who thinks that's funny but to each their own i guess
I think that "Our Dreams at Dusk" was not that bad, at least for me. I understand your discomfort not really liking the way how the author presented the reality of things. But as a person not in the lgbtq, i actually didn't mind it bc it felt real and made you relate with the protagonist. Others would get mad but at least for me it was a solid 6... PS: i agree about blue box. It's great.
see to me a 6/10 is bad lol i actually rated it a 7, maybe i'm too generous with my ratings,, but ya overall it just wasn't for me, i can see the appeal to the series for many though
If I Could Recommend A Manga For You, I Recommend "Knights Of The Zodiac" It's A Classic Shounen Jump Manga And I Must Say That I Liked Your Video! Always Happy To See MangaTubers Share There Opinion On Manga's.
Ah, see the thing with Blade of the Immortal, is that it really changes quite a bit in omnibus 2 (or volume 4 onwards), the first three volumes really aren't a good showcase of what the series turns into. The side characters and main antagonists get truly fleshed out as the story continues, as do Manji and Rin. Kind of like how the black swordsman arc in Berserk isn't a good representation of that series either really. However, I do understand why it wouldn't be your cup of tea!
i can think of a lot of disney movies with that plot lol like trying to make the ugly/unpopular character pretty/popular but along the way they realize it's best to just be yourself!!! (re: geek charming, princess diaries, 10 things i hate about you) but even though it sounds cliche the execution is really good on hs debut
betrayal?? ya i mean the whole first arc is about a murder so ... there's that and also not necessarily betrayals but there are other kind of plot twist reveals about how certain characters are involved in certain things
Top 3 ongoing: One Piece Detective Conan Moriarty the Patriot 3 dropped series: Komi-san Solanin Oyasumi Punpun Top 3 completed: Eyeshield21 Monster Dragon Ball Worst manga I completed: I am a Hero
nice!! definitely want to get back into eyeshield in 2022, and i also wasn't the biggest fan of solanin which is why i'm not even gonna touch goodnight punpun, seems too depressing for me
I agree with what you said about Komi. Me being not so bring hadn’t realized this meant that there was going to be 100 annoying side characters. The only reason I’m still reading is to see how Komi and Taranto interact because I think it is so adorable! 😄
When you mentioned fake dating tropes, I immediately thought of Spy x Family. Have you tried it? I'm only 3 volumes in, but so far it's been very funny and cute.
YES I LOVE SPYxFAMILY, i didn't think about it in the moment when i was filming this but yea i love it, they're not even fake dating they bumped it up to fake marriage haha
Blade of Immortal was not my thing at all. I wanted to like it but couldn’t get into it. I still want to know what happens but I was having so much trouble as well.
for sure, just not our thing and there's nothing wrong with that, i've found just because something is "highly acclaimed" etc doesn't mean i'm automatically going to like it
best i read in 2021 (these are all ongoing series) was probably Vinland saga, opm and blue box. all on the shonen jump app aside from Vinland though i do have opm 1-10. Vinland saga is by far one of my favorite manga/animes ever. the art is amazing, the story and the side characters. the volumes are beautiful imo as well. i think the reason i love Vinland saga so much is because we see really strong characters but there is no power system, its just brute strength, they are just genuinely skilled/strong ass mofos. I feel opm is a very overhated series, the art is phenomenal especially deeper into the series. the story is great we see a lot more from the side characters that we haven't seen, Garou is easily one of the best villains in anime/manga imo and i love it. Blue box doesn't have any physicals yet but I'm loving it so far. it's about a boy who plays badminton and a girl who plays basketball. I cant remember exactly but from what i do, the girls mum moves around a lot for work but she wants the girl to stay where she is for school as moving around too much will be tough on school life and so asks her friend if she can live with her for a while (that friend being the boys mum) they end up living together as they go about school life and teenage life. it doesn't focus a lot on the sport aspect apart from a bit around the start, at least so far. it's a little confusing at times as there is a character who looks like the main girl. its got 31 chapter out rn and I can't wait for more. its different than usual because the two love interests are living together whilst not being related which makes them living together not gross or weird and I cant wait for physicals to come out. this was long sorry 😂
thank you for the recommendations!! i actually mentioned blue box near the end of the video i am also really loving that one i love sports manga and the fact that it has romance in it is just chef's kiss, really hoping they release physicals for it too
it’s so good!! and agreed i wish it had more hype especially since way of the househusband is so popular i feel like they are in the same vein comedy wise
Ah yes, I stopped watching Komi can’t communicate after the episode the main character got kidnapped, and the whole thing made me super uncomfortable. I think it was sort of meant to be humorous? I didn’t really think so though. I just dislike how in some anime/manga some stuff that would usually be quite traumatic (kidnapping, sexual harassment, etc.) is sometimes kind of portrayed as quirky or funny behavior. I mean, I’m able to read stuff like that if the story itself is meant to be messed up, and dark, but the way it was handled here? Yeah no..
exactly how i felt, that isn't the only eh situation like that in the manga ... idk who thinks that is funny but i've never heard anyone else mention it when talking about the series?? just that it's a "cute fluffy romcom series" .. alright then TT i did think the anime was better than the manga though, i liked that it focused more on komi and tadano
love watching your reviews! I havent read our dreams at dusk but ive heard its very heavy and theres alot of trigger warnings,, and if so whyd you pick it up in the first place? Please dont get me wrong!! I appreciate your review but if you know its not going to be for you, why pick it up?
i had picked it up based on some recommendations i had heard from other people and the only thing i was warned of was the suicide attempt which doesn't bother me plus it's like ... regarded as one of the best lgbt+ manga in the community so i figured it had to be good,, the same thing happened with komi, all i heard was it was a "super cute, wholesome series about a girl with anxiety," nobody mentioned the weird side characters TT that's why i try to talk about details like that in my reviews or recommendations bc i would never want someone not to know what they were getting into based on one of my recommendations
What are your thoughts on the transphobia in 20th Century Boys? As a trans person I kept trying to tell myself that Britney and Mariah were drag queens and didn’t actually identify as women, but that didn’t feel like that’s what those characters were trying to portray and it bothered me throughout the story. I’ve never heard anyone talk about that issue in the series and was curious as to what you, someone I assume is also in the lgbt community due to your thoughts about Our Dreams At Dusk, thought about it.
as a cis woman (yes i am lesbian) i don't feel i'm super qualified to comment on this but in my opinion i don't think urasawa intended on offending anyone with having these characters in the manga, while they may have enforced harmful stereotypes they were full-fledged characters who had feelings and contributions to the storyline. so i can appreciate that they weren't just used as the "clown" or "comedic relief" characters like i've seen in other works, but i do see how they could be offensive or harmful.
Our dream at dusk was the worst manga I have ever read.I get they were trying to make it “realistic” but I feel they could have shown the struggles of being apart of the community in a better way
i wouldn't call it the worst manga ever for me but i agree certain struggles could have been portrayed differently imo for me to like the series better
(Jay RoC) I have to check out that 20th century boys , I regret selling my monster perfect editions I figured I'd rebuy them later & now there insanely hard to fined at a good price
ngl waiting for spring sounded pretty interesting to me and something i would like, but the pedophilia and uncalled for scene in the last volume was a bit too much
I fully agree with you on Komi. I hate most of the side characters. The author should at least put 50 side characters/friends not 100 friends, wayyy to much. Im also still surprised that Komi forgave the girl who kidnapped tadano. Overall the story gives tons of second hand embarrassment for me.
good to see the same opinion as me haha ya the yandere girl was definitely one of the worst even apart from the whole ... committing literal crimes thing
Interesting list.... What especially surprised me though was that ending to Waiting for Spring 😳. Seems outta place, at least, going by your descriptions as well as others descriptions of the series (I wasn't ever interested in reading it myself). Why is there so many underage, age-gap '"romance" *cough cough paedophile grooming cough cough* plot beats in manga out there, idk, but I try to stay clear and not even touch them with a 10 foot pole. Yet sometimes they just randomly plop it in a series out of the blue while youre in the middle of the story. A story which you've been already getting invested in and it's just like...really? Why?!😩. Super annoying cause it's an instant drop for me when that happens. Let's see, what are my favorite/unexpected series I've read this year?🤔 1) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (hands down, one of the best manga's out there that I've ever read. Was totally unexpected. The detail to characters, world building and the story was so on point I can't rave about it enough. I bought the deluxe hardcover box set , which contains over 1000 pages of story...it was so good I binged it in 3 days cause I couldn't put it down) 2)Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun (cause it's just a good time. It doesn't take itself and everything too seriously, while at the same time, doesn't disrespect the actual topics and issues when it delves into the more darker themes) 3)...... Blood on the Tracks/The Girl from the Other Side (so far it's a tie between two series atm. Atm because the first one is ongoing while the second I still havent completed reading, although im close to the end. Both have disturbing dark elements, the first being more psychologically disturbing while the second being in the dark tone of the art and theme reminiscent of the original type of fairy tales that used to be prevalent in European culture in the Middle Ages and medieval periods, and its executed really well in doing so) Series that were the worst and which I dropped?🤔 1)The Cats of the Louvre (I really just did not like the derpy character designs especially the whole anthropomorphic cats. Every page had an uncanny valley feel to it, that I couldn't get past.) 2)Ajin: Demi-Human (The plot armor from the beginning with the Ajin's teenage friend helping him to escape by taking out adults, even adult professional bounty hunters, like they were nothing, ruined my immersion of the story, right from the start of the first few chapters. Also the set up of the main characters moral dilemma given through exposition of his thoughts, was obviously going to be the main theme, which was superficially basic. No nuance, whatsoever.) 3)Ceres Celestial Legend (it had a very interesting story and plot right from the start, but it was just way too dated for me. That and the stereotypically shoujo set-up of the 'romantic interests' of the main character, had just shoved itself unnaturally into the story, that I just couldn't take it seriously. Instead it just annoyed me) And that's my list (if anyone is actually interested 🤷lol) Also one last thing I wanted to mention...You may feel uncomfortable about doing these types of videos where you talk about series you've dropped and why....but I absolutely love them. I'd rather watch someone who gives their honest opinions on a series rather than someone who appears to just like everything under the sun. When you have someone who doesn't seem to dislike anything, their reading logs/hauls and whatever series they feature in their videos becomes pointless to watch because their opinion is rendered unreliable, therefore meaningless, at least to me. I already know that different series exist, what I want to know is why one picked up a particular series and I want to know later why one either dropped it or loved and kept it. If someone can't form their own opinions on any series and everything is just good, then what's the point of watching? People have different tastes, there's nothing wrong with that. It's what makes us individuals instead of carbon copies of each other. And so I appreciate when you do speak about your thoughts on a series, no matter if they differ from mine or from the popular consensus. I think your videos are great BECAUSE you give your honest thoughts on the manga you try out. Keep up the great work 👍
Yes I was so shocked at the ending of waiting for spring, such a wtf moment TT the older woman constantly rejected him and just treated him like an annoying little brother pretty much but she finally “caved in” at the end and got together with him like :/ okay?? I wish people discussed these things more often, the same thing happened to me with Komi every review I heard was just like “such a cute and wholesome series!!” And thank you for the recommendations/things to stay away from! I also loved Hanako in 2021, I didn’t know what to expect since I don’t really read fantasy stuff but I am loving it so far and the shift in tone from more comedic to darker plus the art is amazing ofc And tysm for the advice!! I try my best especially to give trigger warnings on things I’m reading bc most the stuff I read is from recommendations and it sucks when something is in the series I wish I would have known about beforehand and I don’t want the same thing to happen to anyone else (I will be the guinea pig lol). But going forward I will try to be more transparent with series I end up dropping etc, I’m not afraid to say I didn’t like something in a reading log but I always throw in a “but maybe I’ll try another volume” which almost never happens lol I just quietly sell it,, but ty again for your comment and for watching
the bride was a boy was a cute one which is a one shot and more of an "educational" story, the only other manga i know with a trans main character is wandering son, it was my favorite manga as a teen but i can't soundly recommend it until i reread it now with the knowledge and experience i have as an adult, i remember it having some triggering topics though such as SA but that mangaka is known for exploring really uncomfortable topics through media so i wouldn't be surprised if there were more subtle explorations that i missed ( i think i was 16 when i first read it )

i'm going to be honest i felt like crap for a few days after finishing it but i'm okay now, happy for the people who love the series and got something meaningful out of it though
Same 💯
I'm genuinely always happy to hear your opinions on series! I am just 3 (very hard to find) volumes away from completing my 20th Century boys singles and planning my binge read out - happy you enjoyed it. - Jerry
good luck completing your set!! like i said definitely a series you need to binge all the way through
would you ever consider reading yona of the dawn?? it’s my favorite shojo manga and has a great balance of romance, action, and humor. the “main cast” is very enjoyable and even though the premise at first surround yona may be off putting (her being in love with her cousin), but that quickly goes away. also, imo, i don’t think she was really in love with him that way (but that’s another conversation).
i have the first volume! i'm waiting until more of the earlier volumes come back in stock to start it though
@@tsukkinotes I second this, one of my favourite series!
Love beastars also! Nice recommendations
yay glad to see more beastars love
"I get passionate when I talk about things I don't like" totally relatable lol
i feel like i'm yelling in my head but editing the footage back i guess i wasn't as ranty as i felt like i was being lol
thank you for not sugarcoating your reviews, it genuinely helps me on what to choose to read and what not to. i was considering waiting for spring, but after hearing your review i’m absolutely disgusted and i’m definitely not checking it out. i also wanted to get your opinion on two series im currently reading: 1. spyxfamily 2. moriarty the patriot. your video was super helpful overall and again thank u so much for the amazing and detailed reviews!
my opinions aren't fact or anything but glad i could help with some decisions by sharing :) and i love spy x family, one of my new favorites and i'm really excited for the anime coming soon, i haven't read moriarty though
I bought high school debut of on a whim a couple weeks ago because of your channel and I do not regret it 😭 I was a little hesitant because I was scared I wouldn’t like it and didn’t know much about it (I thought it was about boxing idk why 💀) but it’s so cute and funny literally my kinda romance, thanks so much!!
glad you're enjoying it!!! literally so good, i wish it was more popular
Hinamatsuri soooo gooood I hope they start printing the volumes 10+ a month!!!!!!!!!! Oh nooo my wife was looking to try Life lessons I didint know the guy was messing with the kinds in that way.
yes!! hopefully we can get the last volume by the end of the year,, and 🤔 she may like it? the humor just wasn't my thing
@@tsukkinotes I will say though your thoughts line up most of the time with hers and they way you described it makes sense and she might not enjoy it for that reason. But who knows!
great video! would definitely like to see more of these kinds of vids in the future. Also, i heavily agree on why you dropped the komi manga, it really felt like those whacky side characters weren't needed at all especially the lil yandere, she kills the series for me more than anything but the anime was def done right! also waiting for spring was such an L, i remember reading it like 5-7 months ago and being hyped about collecting it i got like 11 volumes and decided to read it only to find out vols 4-13 literally all had the same content, it was nothing new or special just the main girl going back and forth on her feelings, another series that is similar to waiting for spring is cheeky brat aka namaikizakari and maaaannnn i wanted to love it so much because ppl said it was like maid sama but it had the same problem as waiting for spring!! the writer spent over 70 chs on a love triangle that didnt really make sense and like there didnt need to be all that drama, writers can be so frustrating sometimes, anyways i was wondering if youve read high school debut all the way thru or did you only read the first omnibus?
thank you! and glad to see someone shares the same opinions as me haha, the same thing happened to me with waiting for spring, i bought all the volumes at once based on recommendations and i just kept reading even though it was boring bc whatever i already bought it but that wtf ending caught me so off guard and gave me the final push to drop it lol, and interesting about cheeky brat, i've been seeing it in everyone's hauls lately but since i heard it's an enemies to loves type thing i won't be picking it up since i hate that dynamic, and i've read all of hs debut!! i love it so much, highly recommend it
woahh definitely gonna read hina matsuri~ sounds just like my thing >:D
My top three this year:
Toilet Bound Hanako Kun
One Punch Man
Haikyuu!
(I don’t really have any ‘worst’ ones because I just got into reading manga this year aHaha)
nice!! i love haikyu ofc and toilet bound was one of my fave reads of the year as well for sure
I dropped Komi too. Wasn’t for me, but I’m glad you enjoyed 20th century Boys!! That’s one of my favourites of all time
yes!! super pumped to read more urasawa in the future
After hearing you talk about high school debut I ordered it so fast. So excited to read it!
hope you enjoy it ahhh!! i love it so much
I did like orumici-onisan but I can’t fault u for seeing it that way. I’m definitely interested in the comedy ones you recommended
we all have our own tastes! and if you like more slapstick or "stupid" humor i think you will like the ones i recommended
Thank you for releasing another great video!
nice!! hope you enjoy them both :) and for sure if you like that genre you will most likely like blade of the immortal, i'm glad i tried it out just ultimately wasn't for me
Hinamatsuri and my dress up darling are my favessss omg im happy theyre getting recognition!
you have good taste 👁
I really enjoyed this video, especially your salty opinions!
glad you enjoyed haha
Dropped Jujutsu Kaisen, Knights of Sidonia, Ran and the gray world and strongly disliked Sanctuary and Escaflowne manga all of which I've either sold, plan to sell or gave to a friend.
thanks for the insight! i haven't read berserk but that is odd about the beginnings for both being rough but that makes sense as the series is trying to get its footing etc, i think we are just so used to newer series nailing the formula right away,, and nice picks! i'm currently reading blue period and i love it, i'll look into the other series you liked as well
im so relieved im not the only one who dropped komi cant communicate.. the story had SO much potential
ya like i said i loved komi and tadano but just everything else was meh :/
It’s so cool to see new titles. I mean, I’m from a different country and there aren’t so much mangas translated. By watching your videos I get to discover new books to read :)
glad you were able to get some recommendations!
Thank you for the new upload! I will keep these series’s in mind next time I go to buy manga!! :D
hope you were able to get some recommendations!
The ending of Beastar season 2 was so uncomfortable for me. It’s a great series but it does have a few weird moments.
i feel like the manga explained the motivations of the characters sooo much better so i can see how the whole ... leg thing (i'm assuming you're referring to) seemed very out of nowhere but if it makes you feel any better the whole next arc is exploring the direct consequences of legoshi's actions during the whole murderer confrontation
I guess the ending and the motivation for it just felt a little rushed
yes!! highly recommend the manga, the events of s2 in the manga had me on the edge of the seat and like crying and screaming at some points and then when i watched how the anime adapted it i was like... oh okay 😅 plus the story keeps getting better and better and i think they announced the next anime season will be the last and there's still half the series to adapt so i have a feeling they are going to rush it
i personally liked komi cant communicate i loved the social anxiety representation especially because i suffer with two different anxiety disorders but i agree w you, i didn’t like the side characters either some were very weird and it just wasn’t funny to me i also disliked how they kept introducing new characters when i hadn’t even fully processed the last character it was kinda confusing n frustrating for me but overall i’d give it a 7/10 ^u^ i prefer the anime though since it focused on komi n tadano more
i’d also love to hear more about your thoughts on sasaki to miyano and how you liked the 6th volume of given!!
agreed! i loved the aspects about anxiety and komi and tadanos relationship so i didn’t totally hate the series so i was so glad the anime was enjoyable, i’ll definitely stick with that adaptation from now on! and i’m loving sasaki and miyano, volume 5 is taking forever to come out but i’m watching the anime in the meantime and it’s so so cute! (haven’t gotten to given 6 yet)
@@tsukkinotes the anime is doing it justice so far super happy about that :D i’ll keep a lookout for ur thoughts on vol 6!
(And hey maybe someone who does like it will buy it.)
glad to see i'm not the only one! ya some of the side characters really rubbed me the wrong way but i'm glad you liked arakawa! one of my faves,, and yes i agree, reuse and recycle! i donate to the library sometimes too
you should consider reading claymore. It's a dark fantasy like the witcher only with a female cast !
thank you for the recommendation!
I was recommended this series multiple times so I tried it ...and I hated it, I basically finished the series just because I don't like leaving things unfinished 😅
ya unfortunately i had bought the series all at once based on recommendation so i read the whole thing, it was boring or whatever so it wasn't the best thing ever but that last volume came out of nowhere and got me thinking about the series as a whole like ... ya i did not really like this lol
yay i love your videos so much!!
thank you!! and the anime is way more tame than the manga like they did keep in her kidnapping tadano but there's a whole chapter of her trying to see komi's underwear and weird stuff like that so :/ agreed not my type of humor ... idk who thinks that's funny but to each their own i guess
It's great.
see to me a 6/10 is bad lol i actually rated it a 7, maybe i'm too generous with my ratings,, but ya overall it just wasn't for me, i can see the appeal to the series for many though

thank you! and thank you for the recommendation :)
i remember watching horimiya a while ago, i think there was some fake dating between yuki and toru but i forgot what leads to that.
unfortunately i don't like horimiya lol i read like 11 volumes of the manga and ended up dropping it
@@tsukkinotes got it!!! it's definitely not for everyone !!! tbh i don't even remember if i liked it that much either 😭😭😭
However, I do understand why it wouldn't be your cup of tea!
i see 👁 ya maybe one day i'll get back to it but not anytime soon, thanks for the insight
I agree with what you said about my dress up darling it's so wholesome but it's ecchi
yes ah one of my favorite romances which surprised me since I’ve never really read an ecchi series before
the plot of high school deput reminds me of an old disney movie plot but i wanna read it lol
i can think of a lot of disney movies with that plot lol like trying to make the ugly/unpopular character pretty/popular but along the way they realize it's best to just be yourself!!! (re: geek charming, princess diaries, 10 things i hate about you) but even though it sounds cliche the execution is really good on hs debut
omg now i’m so glad i picked up hinamatsuri!! i haven’t started it yet,, but if u liked it i’m p sure i will too :)
it's so good i'm loving it so much, the comedy is really my taste
im early ! happy new year and i'm very glad to have another dosis of amazing content by you! :)
happy new year! and ty for watching :)
Is there anyway betrayal in beastars? 😭 Bcs I literally cannot,im fragile af 👌🏽✨
betrayal?? ya i mean the whole first arc is about a murder so ... there's that and also not necessarily betrayals but there are other kind of plot twist reveals about how certain characters are involved in certain things

Moriarty the Patriot
3 dropped series:
Komi-san
Solanin
Oyasumi Punpun
Top 3 completed:
Eyeshield21
Monster

nice!! definitely want to get back into eyeshield in 2022, and i also wasn't the biggest fan of solanin which is why i'm not even gonna touch goodnight punpun, seems too depressing for me
I agree with what you said about Komi. Me being not so bring hadn’t realized this meant that there was going to be 100 annoying side characters. The only reason I’m still reading is to see how Komi and Taranto interact because I think it is so adorable! 😄
yes komi and tadano were definitely the best parts of the series for me! wish it focused more on their relationship
I still want to know what happens but I was having so much trouble as well.
for sure, just not our thing and there's nothing wrong with that, i've found just because something is "highly acclaimed" etc doesn't mean i'm automatically going to like it
@@tsukkinotes and sorry Our Dreams at Dusk triggered you so much :( I enjoyed it but that was another one I didn’t agree with the hype on.
best i read in 2021 (these are all ongoing series) was probably Vinland saga, opm and blue box. all on the shonen jump app aside from Vinland though i do have opm 1-10. I cant remember exactly but from what i do, the girls mum moves around a lot for work but she wants the girl to stay where she is for school as moving around too much will be tough on school life and so asks her friend if she can live with her for a while (that friend being the boys mum) they end up living together as they go about school life and teenage life. it doesn't focus a lot on the sport aspect apart from a bit around the start, at least so far. it's a little confusing at times as there is a character who looks like the main girl. its got 31 chapter out rn and I can't wait for more. its different than usual because the two love interests are living together whilst not being related which makes them living together not gross or weird and I cant wait for physicals to come out. this was long sorry 😂
thank you for the recommendations!! i actually mentioned blue box near the end of the video i am also really loving that one i love sports manga and the fact that it has romance in it is just chef's kiss, really hoping they release physicals for it too
HIna Matsuri- a sleeper hit- not many mangatubers are collecting/talking about that series
it’s so good!! and agreed i wish it had more hype especially since way of the househusband is so popular i feel like they are in the same vein comedy wise
I agree with your thoughts on I married my best friend to shut my parents ups. Romance felt one sided and rushed.
glad someone else shares the same opinion!
Ms. Notes, are you interested in the new licenses you posted on your ig story? Personally, I’ve only read pulse and I would recommend it
pulse is the only one i'm slightly interested in 👁 the other two ... no comment
In Komi I really hate Ren Yamai (The obsessive one) & it really disturbs me to know that they're actually people like that out there...*Shivers*
ya she was one of the worst of the side characters … stalkerish, fetishizing komi, kidnapping tadano ….
@@tsukkinotes as much as some people hate her she probably does have a devoted fan base out there somewhere 😬
Blade of the immortal dropped? 😤 I don’t really like shojou stuff anyway. Difference in taste.
Hi Tsukki I love your videos, if you see this I have a question for you have you ever read the series vampire knight?

Our dream at dusk was the worst manga I have ever read.I get they were trying to make it “realistic” but I feel they could have shown the struggles of being apart of the community in a better way
i wouldn't call it the worst manga ever for me but i agree certain struggles could have been portrayed differently imo for me to like the series better
(Jay RoC) I have to check out that 20th century boys , I regret selling my monster perfect editions I figured I'd rebuy them later & now there insanely hard to fined at a good price
yes i highly recommend!! and ya unfortunately all the urasawa series are kind of a pain to get rn, i'm currently working on pluto and monster
@@tsukkinotes I hear good things about Pluto as well
ngl waiting for spring sounded pretty interesting to me and something i would like, but the pedophilia and uncalled for scene in the last volume was a bit too much
it was so random i have no idea why the author included that like if it was just a kiss i would have still been grossed out but ya it was unnecessary
Let's see, what are my favorite/unexpected series I've read this year?🤔
1) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (hands down, one of the best manga's out there that I've ever read. Was totally unexpected. The detail to characters, world building and the story was so on point I can't rave about it enough. I bought the deluxe hardcover box set , which contains over 1000 pages of story...it was so good I binged it in 3 days cause I couldn't put it down)
2)Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun (cause it's just a good time. It doesn't take itself and everything too seriously, while at the same time, doesn't disrespect the actual topics and issues when it delves into the more darker themes)
3)...... Blood on the Tracks/The Girl from the Other Side (so far it's a tie between two series atm. Atm because the first one is ongoing while the second I still havent completed reading, although im close to the end. Both have disturbing dark elements, the first being more psychologically disturbing while the second being in the dark tone of the art and theme reminiscent of the original type of fairy tales that used to be prevalent in European culture in the Middle Ages and medieval periods, and its executed really well in doing so)
Series that were the worst and which I dropped?🤔
1)The Cats of the Louvre (I really just did not like the derpy character designs especially the whole anthropomorphic cats. Every page had an uncanny valley feel to it, that I couldn't get past.)
2)Ajin: Demi-Human (The plot armor from the beginning with the Ajin's teenage friend helping him to escape by taking out adults, even adult professional bounty hunters, like they were nothing, ruined my immersion of the story, right from the start of the first few chapters. Also the set up of the main characters moral dilemma given through exposition of his thoughts, was obviously going to be the main theme, which was superficially basic. No nuance, whatsoever.)
3)Ceres Celestial Legend (it had a very interesting story and plot right from the start, but it was just way too dated for me. That and the stereotypically shoujo set-up of the 'romantic interests' of the main character, had just shoved itself unnaturally into the story, that I just couldn't take it seriously. Instead it just annoyed me)
And that's my list (if anyone is actually interested 🤷lol)
Also one last thing I wanted to mention...You may feel uncomfortable about doing these types of videos where you talk about series you've dropped and why....but I absolutely love them.
I wish people discussed these things more often, the same thing happened to me with Komi every review I heard was just like “such a cute and wholesome series!!”
And thank you for the recommendations/things to stay away from! I also loved Hanako in 2021, I didn’t know what to expect since I don’t really read fantasy stuff but I am loving it so far and the shift in tone from more comedic to darker plus the art is amazing ofc
And tysm for the advice!!
Do you have any recommendations for manga with a trans main character the only one I know is boys run the riot
the bride was a boy was a cute one which is a one shot and more of an "educational" story, the only other manga i know with a trans main character is wandering son, it was my favorite manga as a teen but i can't soundly recommend it until i reread it now with the knowledge and experience i have as an adult, i remember it having some triggering topics though such as SA but that mangaka is known for exploring really uncomfortable topics through media so i wouldn't be surprised if there were more subtle explorations that i missed ( i think i was 16 when i first read it )
“Pa’ fuera!” 🤣
yay, another great video! if you want a cute fake-dating w|w oneshot, i recommend ROADQUEEN: eternal roadtrip to love! it's very fun and silly!
thank you! and thank you for the recommendation sounds great!
