I personally thought the ending of Blue Flag was good too! I thought it was realistic with how much time had past and who ultimately ends up with who because not everyone gets a full “character development”. Sometimes these characters just need to realize stuff about themselves, and sometimes that’s enough for them to move on. Although I wished to see a bit more material on the end game couples, I thought it ended pretty alright. Also about the wokeness in volume 7 it was a bit too woke for me lol, but I still liked it. The author said that they’d rather have their characters talk it out rather than have miscommunication, even if the conversation doesn’t go anywhere or solve anything.
Completely agree! Wish we could have had a couple more insight chapters about the ending but I wasn't mad about the timeskip or the "abruptness" of the ending,, and interesting note about the author i can definitely see that lol some of those conversations didn't really have a satisfying conclusion but Toma forgave his two friends and if he accepted their apology well ... to each their own 😂
As a lesbian, our dreams at dusk was okay, well at least volume 1 was okay, but a bit traumatizing. I would recommend a yuri manga called Girl Friends. It’s about a girl coming to realize her sexuality, but also her life was a high school student. It was REALLY good, in my opinion. It reminded me a lot of myself about how I doubted/denied myself of my sexuality.
thank you for the recommendation! let's go lesbians 😩 but fr ya our dreams at dusk was ... not it for me but i can appreciate it as a series and i'm glad others enjoyed and got something out of it other than trauma being brought up
My fav gl manga have to , ofc Bloom Into You . I love the way it's shows character growth and second is School Zone which I highly recommend it's like nichijou the comedic timing and ridiculousness of the skit are so funny and wholesome . All the pairings are great and loveable and the art is pretty good too.
For me A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow it’s slow in the beginning but I did end up really enjoying it especially since I think it has great visual metaphors and symbolism. I also think it touches on unique topics when it comes to friendship. I also love how it touches on having anxiety and growing up. But I understand your feelings on it and hope it can maybe be on sale or interest you one day.
thank you for the insight!! ya the beginning didn't immediately capture my attention and since i read so much manga it's easy for series to get lost in the shuffle but i may continue if i'm ever in the mood for more of it
I decided to listen to your thoughts on Blue Flag even though I have not read it yet and I am happy to hear an alternative perspective on the ending!! I kept considering reading it but only heard progressively worse and worse things about the series conclusion so I had avoided it. May consider it more now!! - Jerry
ahhh well now you're spoiled for the ending but ya i didn't think it RUINED the whole series like many people, i thought it was a sweet ending that could have been better but especially the beginning of the series stays super strong
thank you for discussing the blue flag ending! no one i watch has talked about it, i’ve been wanting to start it, but with such different reviews i didn’t know if i wanted to commit to it! always love your vids and reviews, so i’m ready to start it finally!!!! 💞
ahhh i guess you are spoiled for the ending then but i thought the beginning of the series was especially great and i don't think the ending "ruined" the whole series like it did for some people but everyone is entitled to their own opinion so ,, and ty for watching
Yayy I'm so happy you liked the Blue Flag ending! People kept saying it didn't make sense that Taichi broke up with Futaba but I thought it was totally realistic. Not every ending is a shojo ending where they marry their high school sweet heart T-T
agreed! like he was already struggling with the relationship in hs, the foundation was not super solid so it wasn't a shock that they broke up, i'm just glad everyone ended up happy in the end
I think I’d rate blue flag a 9/10 honestly, I would’ve gave it a full rating if they had explained the ending a little more as in how they ended up with the people they ended up with but other than that it’s actually one of my favorite series
nice! ya i definitely enjoyed the beginning a lot, it declined bit near the end but overall a solid series, glad to see something like this in shonen jump as well
You make me want to reread Genshiken! I don't own the singles anymore, but I remember loving it when I was younger 😃 And I think I'll check out Blue Box too! Nice reads this month!! 😄
I’ve read a decent amount of GL manga and Kase-san and Bloom Into You are my top two as well, though both for entirely different reasons. Another pretty good one is Goodbye, My Rose Garden. It has a very different setting than the other two and I enjoyed it a lot, but it does have the insta-love thing going on since it’s only three volumes long. I liked what I’ve read of A Tropical Fish so far, but it’s definitely not amazing or anything. I just like the good friendship vibes lol. Also I’m glad I got to talk about the ending of Blue Flag with you, I was getting a little frustrated having to hear all these negative opinions about the ending all the time (which is kind of ironic coming from me lol).
thank you for the recommendation! i'll check that one out,, and regarding fish yearns for snow hmmmm we'll see how i feel but for now i'm trying to be more strict with myself in not continuing stuff i didn't love right off the bat but then again some series are slow starts so i'm just eternally confused and broke lol ,, and yes so good to talk to you about blue flag!! i'm glad i finished it despite being so discouraged by the negative reviews for a while there
Totally agree with you about Blue Flag. The ending was good, felt a bit short for me too, would also liked to see a bit more how everyone ended up where they're now. Going to check out Blue Box on SJ app. As I love to play badminton in the summer and I've heard lots of great reviews of this series. Also, monthly One Piece update - read up to volume 80, so now I really think I'll catch up with the series :)
@@tsukkinotes Honestly, the first few arcs of One Piece were a bit boring for me, but ever since Skypiea arc, the series just got better and better! Wish I hadn't put it on hold during summer now😅
thank you! and ya i got all the volumes at once on sale, probably should have done more research on the more "problematic" tropes present, now i feel like i'm in too deep to not continue it lol
Gintama is such a gem of a series. If only they would reprint the manga and finish it in English. I also felt similar with Blue Flag. I was pretty neutral towards the end and I understood why things happened the way they did. I also wished there could have been some more developments, but I respect the author for what they were trying to do. I remember going on Reddit to see other's people's reactions, and it gets totally burned over there.
agreed, would have liked a bit of extra about what happened to get to the timeskip but i wasn't enraged by the ending, i'm scared of reddit tbh but even on like the myanimelist reviews people were MAD
I hope you'll watch/read demon slayer one day, i think it's amazing! but i would recommend watching the anime cause i think it's a lot better and seeing everything in motion makes it a lot more interesting and fun to watch💕
thank you for the recommendation lol i get many comments telling me to start it but that's what happened with toilet bound hanako kun and i ended up enjoying it so maybe one day
I did the same thing with Bloom into You and A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow and definitely felt the same way. TBH Tropical Fish is more about friendship than it is a GL manga. I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't what I thought it would be.
i have the same thoughts about that wolf-boy is mine! i picked it up because i've been enjoying those not so sweet boys, and i was satisfied but a little disappointed. i will say that both of the series are really similar LOL; the characters are virtually the same in both design and development. if you weren't a huge fan of that wolf-boy is mine, yoko nogiri's other works might be a skip for you imo.
good to know! ya they all have very similar ratings on myanimelist and i try not to judge too much based on those but 😂 i feel like if i liked shoujo more i would be able to tolerate kind of boring writing but it's not really a demographic i can sit through if i'm not enjoying it ... now sports manga is a whole different story
thank you! and i was surprised she ended up with a man i will be honest but she never stated her sexuality only that she liked futaba so as long as she's happy i'm not mad at her ending
I want to read Paradise Kiss so badly. I always saw the omnibus in the store but it was so expensive and now I can't find it >< That Wolf Boy is Mine is Yoko Nogiri's first manga so Its much weaker than her others. Those not so sweet boys is the best/most recent. I'd recommend it if you want a fluffy high school romance.
hopefully they reprint the omni soon! it's crazy since there's been like 4 editions of the manga but it is still hard to find,, and good to know, i didn't hate wolf boy but it was kinda just ... there lol
I really am enjoying Blue Box we really need a physical release in the US! I need to start reading Beastars (especially since I have all the physicals for Beastars) and Blue Flag both are great from what I heard. Another Blue series I recommend is Blue Giant it’s a great music manga. Great videos definitely some great reads this month!
thank you! and yes agreeeed i would buy the blue box physicals in a heartbeat, and please start beastars!! as you can see i'm loving it so much haha and i do have the first 2 volumes of blue giant! i hope to get to it soon
I checked your mal and I was surprised that u haven't watched violet evergarden which is my fav, is it cause it's not a manga original? It's such a good show tho.
i love kyoto animation so i'm sure i will watch it one day! i've just heard too many reviews about it being super sad and i try to limit the amount of like "sad" media that i consume
LOL your right the genshiken red volumes are suuuuper ugly. Hurts my eyes seeing them. WOOOHOOO!! Another one who liked the ending of blue flag! Wife had a cloud hovering over her knowing people did not like the ending etc. But she also liked the ending!
i wish the omnibuses weren't so hard to find, it really is a tragedy and nice!! ya i don't think the ending was bad at all, not the greatest ever but not deserving of all the hate it gets imo
@@tsukkinotes Thats where im at with Blue Flag too. It felt like it got beat down harrrrrd about the ending. While its not perfect it was not as bad as people were saying I agree. Same with AOT I liked the ending a lot and some people were big babies about it lol.
I love gintama. I think exactly the same about ao no flag, the end was good, the only thing that was "difficult" for me to read is the whole speech of touma's friends about homosexuality.
me too :) excited to read more,, and agreed that whole conversation was hard to read and didn't really have a satisfying conclusion even though i came to understand why both sides felt the way they did
Tbh I didn’t rly mind the Blue Flag ending that much either but I wish it was at least 12 vols so I could see how they moved on with their lives after highschool but ig that’s the whole problem? Idk I loved it tho
for sure would have liked to see a little more of how they got to that ending or atleast Toma's adult face like ?!?!? TT but ya i liked the series overall
@@tsukkinotes okay so I started and literally just finished that wolf boy is mine and tbh I thought it was a 7.5/10, like one of those moments where there’s multiple love interests but it’s ovi the main guy is gonna get her. But it still pains me and I don’t love harems like that-
I didn't like Blue Flag because I felt like it need an extra volume. It was so rushed at the end. I would have like to seen more of the end couple relationships. What happened for them to get together. It was just oh we are together now. The end relationship just seemed to be shoved in your face. I didn't tbh see a future with the girl because I feel like they was only together because both were shy and short so was happy with the end relationship but not how it was just shoved in your face. Or could of had a longer volume 8 with just a bit more backstory
